We have classified the 60 complaints from 2016 Jeep Renegade about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.

SOFTWARE 1

Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2016 Jeep Renegade

We have had the vehicle for less than a week. my wife commutes my disabled child to a state school every school day. while on her way home the vehicle in question shuttered and died while driving. she was able to get the vehicle off the road and onto a access road. the vehicle then would not start with several attempts. she then called me, who was at work, and i left to help check the car. with limited tools at my disposal, i checked for battery voltage and intake restriction. no problems found. i checked the instrument cluster for fuel and had 2 led bars with no low fuel "dummy" light. cycled to range till empty section and was showing 60 miles to empty. so i assumed fuel was not the issue, but didn't rule it out. since she had already driven 60 miles to this point, i assumed ignition was also not a issue. i then unhooked the battery to reset ecm/pcm. hooked battery back up and tried to crank again with still a no start. i then went with the easy route and obtained a fuel canister with fuel and added 1.5 gallons of fuel to the tank, which increased fuel gauge to 3 led bars. once above previous 2 led bars the vehicle started with no hesitation. since this issue i have looked for recalls on programming or any tsb pertaining to this issue with no avail. i have read on forums this same issue happening to other similar vehicles. i find that with out these indicators or the reliability of the range to empty that this could lead to a safety issues depending on the environment the vehicle stalls in.

Ambient outside sensor is not working properly and causing the air conditioning and my heater to not work properly. my outside temperature reads 131 degrees and its 43 degrees outside. this happen every time i drive it ,the whole time i am driving it now i have to replace the whole passenger side mirror which is going to cost 325.00 which i think is ridiculous.

The car stops and turns off while in motion. car lights turn on but engine will not turn on. had battery replaced twice. the car won't turn off even after pushing the button and exiting the vehicle. lights won't turn off . key fob is detected when not near and not detected when inside car. have gone to the extents of unplugging battery to reset computer after hours it will then turn on and work for about 1 week. with light issues in between. it's become a hazzard since the car will just turn off while driving and will not turn on even with a jump start from a tow truck. the car will become dead 100 percent. only lights turn in at times until battery gets drained out. then nothing works.

Car looses power steering and power and does not shut off and air bags are not on while driving

Multiple warning lights appear on the dashboard when starting vehicle while no problems exist. warning lights stay on at all times. chrysler has a recall number "t50" on jeep renegade 2017 models.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep renegade. while attempting to start the vehicle, several warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle failed to start. the contact stated that the parking brake, coolant hot, and air bag warning indicators were illuminated. after thirty minutes of attempting to start the vehicle, a tow truck company was contacted to have the vehicle towed; however, the tow truck driver was able to jumpstart the vehicle. the contact stated that the failure recurred once. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was informed of the failure. the dealer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 62,000.

This truck has been a nightmare. the first year i had it i had to take it to the dealership 7 times because my emergency brake would randomly turn on. they finally figured out it was an electrical problem. last month i started the car and it was running like it had 150, 000 miles on it (it only has 42,000) and the service engine light came one. took it to the dealership and i was told on the phone the the o2 sensor was bad and i needed a tuneup... but when i refused to pay the dealership $700 for the work the story changed when i went to pick up the car. they then told me they broke the o2 sensor when replacing a fan that had been recalled. while driving o the highway yesterday every light on the dash came on. once i got home a turn it off and back on only the service engine light came back on. i have no clue what im going to do with this $35,000 lemon. i can only guess the car still has electrical issues or the engine is about to die at 42,000 miles even though i have have kept up with all required maintenance through the dealership. but i do know i will never buy another chrysler product again in my life

For the last year on and off the warning lights illuminate( service air bags, parking brake, electronic throttle cable, check engine light, power steering light), etc. last week we were driving with the kids, went to park, got back into the vehicle, started it and all the lights started going off. my husband turned the key to off, pulled it out, and the car kept running. we brought it into the dealer only to have them replace the seatbelt. we got the car back and it happened again today. we were driving, all the lights kept going off, including the power steering light which turns off the power steering so we pulled into a gas station only to turn the key to the off position, pulled the key out and the car kept running. we called the dealer and brought it back in to be serviced. the car is dangerously unsafe!

Engine cooling fan was replace, paid $100 deuctible on lifetime warranty, was recalled later and fca denied refund of $100 even after dealer processed refund.

Electric fan assembly for the cooling system failed. burned up the electric fan, smoke pouring out of the engine bay. vehicle was in motion on a city street.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep renegade. the contact stated that the cooling fans were not working and the fuses would blow out, causing the engine to overheat. the contact had to pull the vehicle over and allow it to cool down. the dealer (c & c dodge chrysler jeep, 1305 pike st, building a, marietta, oh 45750, (740) 373-2928) replaced the fan and the fuse assembly. the manufacturer stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 38,000. the vin was unknown. *as

Car hit 40000 miles and radiator fan started making squealing noise and now dosen't cut on at all. jeep has almost overheated because of this

I am concerned that key fob to our 2016 renegade does not work well at all. i have replaced the battery but still have problems locking and unlocking doors. i worry when the key fob takes a long time to open the doors i have to hover key fob over door handle to see if it reads it, this happens when i pick up the kids from school, or running to their game's and practices, and it happens on rainy days too. i can't get in my car and i worry for my safety and that of my kids because we're standing outside the vehicle waiting to see if doors will unlock. it doesn't make sense that we cannot get into our car. i have read that this is a recurring issue with key fobs. i need this issued resolved.

Fan rattles vehicle overheats ac not working notice all this when came to a stop and was idling.

Radiator fan making rattle noise. it has 36011 miles.

Tl* the contact's father owns a 2016 jeep renegade. the contact stated that vehicle shifted into neutral independently while in drive. also, the check engine indicator illuminated intermittently. in addition, the vehicle would not crank and had difficulty starting. furthermore, some electrical failures were experienced, including all the windows remained in the down position and would not roll up and the exterior lighting remained illuminated while in operation. the contact associated the power train failure with nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000(power train), which only pertained to the 2014 and 2015 models. the contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was serviced on several occasions for the various failures. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 47,243.

Intermittent check parking break, check air bag warning keeps coming on. also will not recognize when driver seat belt is engaged. this happens when the vehicle is started and at least one of the three warnings will stay on when the vehicle is in motions.

When vehicle is stationary while warming up. grinding noise started. turned off the engine and checked the hood. couldn't see anything so i carried on. later in traffic, grinding noise from engine compartment starts. temperature shoots into red, and i start smelling something burning. engine light came on and found it was the cooling fan. doing some research online came to find out this a problem with tons of other people. i feel this is a known manufacturer's defect that should be recalled. failure can happen at any time and could result in a blown motor and/or other damages resulting in a vehicle crash causing serious injury or death. i'm glad i was able to pull over and shut the vehicle off before anything major happend. these fans should be living a 100,000 mile life. but it's happening at 30,000-70,000 miles. jeep will not cover this under warranty as they say it isn't part of the drivetrain. after reading numerous complaints about this problem i feel this is a known manufacturer's defect that should be recalled. the problem is so widespread that jeep ran out of them and had/has long wait times. during this period the vehicle is unusable. this is really unacceptable for such a newer model vehicle. my vehicle is currently at 52,000 miles and now i'm going to have to pay $350 in repairs along with the $150 part.

While driving and with the vehicle in motion the brake, airbag and seatbelt warning lights illuminated along with a chime. took to dealership and was told that battery was faulty and was replaced under warranty. 8 days after we got the car back the same thing happened on starting the car before putting the car in motion. immediately returned to dealer and was told again that issue was the battery. and that it was our fault that we did not drive the car enough even though we had driven the car 3 times in that 8 days.

After approximately 10-15 minutes after starting car. driving 30+ mph down a city street, car stopped moving and shut off. gear shift showed car was in drive, radio was on but dashboard said press break pedal and push button to start. turned car off, then back on and engine tried to turnover but would not start. after approximately 3-5 minutes, car started again. this has happened 3 times under all similar conditions. the first time it happened it took 4 attempts to restart before car would turn on. two days later same happened twice in a row spanning 4 minutes apart from each other. all under same conditions. 30+ mph moving straight on city street. *dt*jb

Cooling fan motor failing with 38,000 miles on the odometer. when the fan comes on it begins to wobble and make clicking noises. this renegade is a 2016. this part should not be failing.

First at 25000 miles engine cooling fan went out and rattled so loud and overheated had to be towed. took dealership a week just to get the parts. now at 34000 miles engine died and vehicle stopped on highway on ramp almost causing a severe accident. no engine lights came on. i drove it and would not drive over 10 mph while making a horrible noise than engine dies in middle of the road almost another accident. finally got restarted and quit again now every light on dash came on. popped the hood and absolutely no oil in engine! was just at dealership the week before and they did their multipoint inspection and marked oil as full? so in a week it lost 5 quarts of oil? was towed again and sat at dealership for two weeks as they could not figure out engine knocking sound! than they call and said everything checked out fine!??. drove home smelling burnt oil as always since new and checked dipstick, they overfilled it by at least a quart! unbelievable. engine runs horrible and in 100 miles has already dropped a quart on dipstick. blowing oil out exhaust pipe. can't trust this vehicle and no one has an answer or fix!!???. total most ridiculous and dangerous thing ever gone through. somebody will get killed with a vehicle like this. unbelievable! 2.4l engine

My 2016 jeep renegade trailhawk vehicle has an intermittent problem in the driver seat electrical wiring. the driver seat power switches controlling the seat movement have become non-operational. the problem occurs without warning and present a possible safety issue is the case of an accident. in the event of an accident, the driver seat would be lock into a position locking the driver in the seat of the vehicle.

Various warning lights will come on, especially at colder ambient temperatures. high coolant temp warning when it's below zero. check the parking brake after i've starting driving, etc. nav 6.5 cannot seem to stay connected to satellite radio and constantly has to re-load (during this time, no sound will broadcast from radio). also, takes up to 5 minutes minutes for the nav 6.5 to load - so often i have to go without the backup camera. also, when getting in car and on a phone call, the call will not transfer to the car immediately. it's so slow that i am missing the conversation because during the process of transferring the call the sound from the call is completely cut off on the phone and hasn't yet come through to the car's speakers. i am putting today's date on the form, but these things happen every single day that i drive the car. i have had it for 2.5 years and it has 16.7k miles.

Was in motion on city street and power steering / traction control randomly cut out causing the vehicle to loose control. this has happened several times. the power will cut the engine sometimes and other times the car just drifts and i cannot control it. i have almost seriously wrecked because of it twice. *dt*jb

I am reporting a possible safety problem that has developed over recent months with my 2016 jeep renegade trailhawk 4x4. the vehicle has a recurring malfunction with the driver side seat electrical wiring assembly. the problem occurs intermittently after the seatbelt is properly secured and there is normal body movement in the driver seat while the vehicle is either in motion or stationary. the problem so far affects several of the electronic subsystems connected to the vehicle's driver seat. this malfunction has caused temporary or permanent disabling of the driver seat power controls, airbag system, electronic parking brake system and seatbelt warning system.

A few months after purchase all the lights on my dashboard and headlights constantly flicker, they get really bright and then they dim down, the acceleration does not work if i slowdown to 5 miles per hour or less, it stalls until i come to a complete stop. my emergency break, seat belt and airbag maintenance lights go off at random times when i first start my car, the dealership cannot duplicate the acceleration issue, and they are not seeing error codes for the airbags, seat belt and emergency break but they have attempted to repair the dashboard lights at least 3-4 times with no permanent solution.

On the screen everyday as you drive the car on local streets or interstate it show a warning that says system requires service. vehicle requires service please contact your dealer. when this pops up the milage starts blinking and the emergency 911 and assistance button lights up. took it to the dealer and they can not find any wrong with it. it started back in late october and continues to happen.

Mileage began flashing. called dealership, unknown. random lights illuminating on dash that lights and turn signals were "out" but they were working properly. shut off vehicle, restart and dash warning lights were gone. at 36000 miles my drivers side rear light component not working. this includes tail light, back up light, break light. unassembled connector and noticed the middle port appeared melted and black soot noted around the pin on the light that the pigtail connected to. called dealership to explain, they state i have to pay the diagnostic fee ($120) then pay for labor and cost to fix what they find. dealership states vehicle is out of warranty for electrical system. obviously there are many electrical failures. also i have encountered the stalling of my vehicle twice when turning left and trying to accelerate. my emergency horn went off in the driveway. my sunroof was closing extremely slow (as if it were a motor issue) but worked fine after shutting off and turning vehicle back on. "serv 4wd" displayed once.

Sluggish acceleration loses power briefly when speed is reduced and trying to increase again. loses power when turning from stop sign to street. losee power from exiting lot to main highway. has been happenig off and on since new purchase 2016 dealership no help. last time happened 8-23-18 turned from stop sign would not accelerate right away. was seconds in middle of road. dash lights go off go off while driving or when starting. i have to turn off vehicle to get them to come back on. last time on highway 8-22-18 50 miles from my house. doesnt happen all the time. my jeep.was purchased in july 2016 and has 17,500 miles. i am afraid to travel too far with it. this is a safety concern with me i live in country and need to travel 20 to 50 miles to doctors.

Electric cooling fan motor fails and causes vehicle to over heat.

Since purchase electrical system randomly gives all warning lights and will not let me shut off vehicle without unhooking battery and hooking back up. have had it in shop multiple times for same thing, neither jeep place i have took it to can figure it out and tell me my only option is to have towed in next time it does it and leaving on and "praying their service dept is open when it happens" per rice jeep dodge on alcoa hwy, lenoir city chrysler dodge where purchased told me to get lawyer so i refuse to take back there. rice dodge has been much more helpful and understanding and not threatening me. have been working with frank at jeep corporate and have multiple open cases

Car had 25000 miles. got stuck in traffic and started over heating. fan was rattling and found to be bad. we have replaced the fan 3 times since then at $400 a pop. this needs to be a recall or a fix implemented soon. can't afford monthly payments x2 due to replacing fan every month.

Driving on vacation all the sudden my 2016 jeep renegade starts to overheat and making loud noises which appear to be coming from the fan. immediately pull over. clearly the fan is defective because a cooling fan shouldn't fail less than 60000 miles. jeep dealer is charging a little over $700.00 to fix it which involves replacing the fan assembly along with a sensor. internet research indicates this is a large problem and still continuing.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep renegade. while starting the vehicle and driving unknown speeds, the parking brake, air bag, and seat belt warning indicators illuminated. additionally, the contact heard an abnormal chiming noise. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who referred the contact to the local dealer. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was approximately 41,000.

Vehicle starts engine. however all emergency and warnings lights go on. brakes and steering lock. car will not shut off until battery is unpluged. this happens repeatedly and randomly.

My radiator fan went out at 50,000 miles therefore out of warranty. i had noticed a few times that i would hear a noise coming from the engine, i took it to the shop and they saw no issues. fast forward 4 months and i was sitting in traffic and my car began to overheat. i was informed that this is an ongoing issue and that i should submit a complaint to hopefully get a recall on this as i paid a significant amount of money to fix it .

At 38,000 miles my cooling fan came loose while driving. took to dealership and was told warranty would not cover. my seatbelt sensor and other sensor lights are lighting up randomly so i'm not sure if there is an emergency or if the sensors are just faulty. both of these issues could result in an accident. all of this while driving although the sensors are while stationary too.

My 2016 jeep renegade trailhawk vehicle has an intermittent problem in the driver seat electrical wiring. the driver seat power switches controlling the seat movement have become non-operational. the problem occurs without warning and present a possible safety issue is the case of an accident. in the event of an accident, the driver seat would be lock into a position locking the driver in the seat of the vehicle. this condition would present a safety hazard in the event a speedy evacuation is necessary.

Suv has a electrical problem causing the car to lose acceleration when pulling out into heavy traffic areas that require fast acceleration. the car also has random electronic messages that flash on the dash and the blind spot system goes off at various unnecessary times. the acceleration issue is very dangerous and i have had it to the dealer 4 times with no resolve!!! this could pose to be a serious issue if traffic is heavy and we are trying to merge into lanes or pull out into traffic lanes!!!! happens when pulling away from a dead stop, car starts in motion and then just looses momentum and slowly rolls forward and after seconds pass it will start to reaccelerate again. this has happened 8 to 10 times over the first year of ownership. the last time being yesterday nov 20th 2017

I've been complaining since i've owned the car about electrical issues with the radio light panel including the service panel on the vehicle that tells about the air in the tires and all the maintenance , as well is stating that it seems like he has an electrical short inside the dash somewhere now the fan on the radiator has caught on fire and has left me without a vehicle this issue started 10 days after buying the vehicle it only had 7000 miles on it then and was having numerous electrical issues causing the radio to malfunction and the paneling that controls the service and the mileage and the odometer reading's as well as the tire pressure the computer system as a whole has been malfunctioning as well as the radio and now the fire in the van and jeep has done nothing to help me they've ignored me for six days of constant contact left me stranded and left my three kids and ice 🚑🚓 walking home on the interstate 15 miles to get home with no rental car no help they have costly ignore my phone calls the dealerships here won't help me fix it because he said it's out of warranty but i've been complaining about this issue long before the warranty was out but they have ignored me nor my complaints and try to act like it's not a problemwe were driving the vehicle when it caught on fire and we were driving the vehicle and it seemed as if after the vehicle was driving in a motion for about 5 to 7 minutes the problems would start up and it would last the whole time i was driving it

Multiple issues since i purchased new. dealer confirmed computer sending codes to transmission causing it to not shift properly. at times, you could not accelerate or extremely low gas mileage. on an interstate going up and down mountains with 18-wheelers, this is terrifying. all lights shutting off randomly including headlights, brakes, blinkers, dash, etc while driving down the road. the worst issue is i have had is the doors locking my child in. i put him in the vehicle as normal, when i went around to get in, all the doors had locked and would not open. the police busted a window to get him out. after confirmed he was ok, i went out to see what was going on with the vehicle. the dash was blinking a message and the locks were still acting up. after cranking, everything returned to normal. *bf updated 9/12/18*jb

While driving my 2016 jeep renegade trailhawk on a city street it began accelerating rapidly on its own. i began engaging the brakes to try to slow the vehicle initially and the engine continued to the point of redline. i attempted to shift the car into neutral but the command center kept overriding my input; i was finally able to jam the car into neutral by slamming the palm of my hand into the shifter driving forcing the neutral shift. i was able to pull off to the should of the road where the car continued running at redline for several minutes while i attempted to stomp on the accelerator hoping to get the vehicle to disengage. due to the electronic controls you cannot turn the car off while in neutral and the engine running at such high rpms. after roughly 10 attempts at stomping on the accelerator hoping to get the vehicle to respond it dropped to a standard idle. only being a short distance from my neighborhood at the time of incident i limped the car back home. during that time the traction control light began flashing, the battery light came on, the temp sensor spiked to max temp, the oil pressure warning light came on and the a/c began to blow hot and the engine light came on. upon safely pulling in my driveway it smelled of a hot burning rubber/oil smell and there was some type of fluid leaking from the car that appeared to be the synthetic oil.

Software issue in that instrument warning lights come on at at time. possibly giving you false warning of what is happening with vehicle. happens when switch is turned on and stays on for long time. it happened five times over past year; dealership saw it happen once but did nothing to correct the problem. also came when vehicle was in motion. sounds same as 2017 electrical system recall 17v4485000.

Electrical. service 4x4 reoccuring. dealer can't figure out. 4x4 not working when light is on. whole dash board lit up today and prompted 4x4 service then just went to service 4x4( as in picture below)randomly turns on and off with seemingly no rhyme or reason. was in dealer 8 days last week. got back couple days ago, going into dealer next week to see if they can figure out, again. prob lose jeep for couple more days. jeep sees more of dealer than my own garage. they have given rental each time which i applaud since is under warranty and less than 1 yr old but i have a dog and obligations so makes very inconvenient.

Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep renegade. while driving 2 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. huntington beach chrysler jeep of huntington beach, california was made aware of the failure on two occasions and advised the contact to bring the vehicle in to be serviced. the second time the failure occurred, the dealer stated that the failure was due to a software glitch at 500 miles. the dealer was contacted again for the failure that recurred at 1,300 miles, but the vehicle was not taken in for service. the contact did not notify anyone the first time the failure occurred. the manufacturer stated that it was not their responsibility and referred the contact to the dealer. the failure mileage was 500.

The vehicle with only 340 miles electrical system went completely haywire with all the warning lights and displays going off and the transmission disengaging, right in the middle of a busy intersection. very dangerous. had to turn off, move gear shift back and forth, then start car and get transmission to move off the road. warning lights take turns going off and usually following the airbag warning the transmission disengages. dangerous!

2016 jeep renegade trailhawk loss of power accelerating from a stopped position, turning/merging into traffic form a slowed/stopped position, vehicle stopping up hill. 13,200 miles the 'check engine' light on, engine powered down twice when pulling out from a stop & turning left w/ slight incline, once going straight across a 2-lane hwy, & engine powering down when merging. dealership said due to an update needed. two wks after the update, engine powers down making a right turn form a stop sign. dealership couldn't replicate & told to drive careful. a few wks later, i was stopped at a stop sign. i made a left-hand turn w/ an incline. as i started accelerating, the renegade suddenly lost speed & ceased to move as i was pressing the gas petal. those few seconds of pulling out w/ oncoming traffic could quickly lead to a wreck when you lose power in the middle of the road. i felt a great deal of panic, distrust of my renegade. i feared for my safety. i take the renegade back to the shop no real resolve. i was driving up a steep hill at which time my renegade completely stopped as i was nearing the top of the hill. as you can imagine, this was terrifying to say the least! when the renegade stopped, i was fortunate enough to not have anyone following behind me. however, due to the angle & steepness of the hill, i was panicked the renegade would roll down. i never put my foot on the break & continued to pump the gas. after about 5 pumps on the gas, the renegade began to slowly accelerate. i was going at a rate of speed of around 30mph, 1/4 of tank of gas, & driving for about 10 mins before incident. chrysler isn't taking this issue seriously. i have been in contact w/ them on a corp. level as well. the renegade has had 3 more incidents of losing power when accelerating in a turn from a stop. i fear for my life & am stuck w/ an untrustworthy new vehicle.

Driving on rainy day. going anywhere from 30 to 55 mph. all idiot lights came on the dash. said service everything lost power steering lost power brakes. *tr

At less than 100 miles on 2016 jeep renegade trailhawk appeared to have had an electrical issue where when started alerts are displayed in the message center for for various lights (brake light failure, headlight failure, turn signal failure, etc.) the left turn signal began blinking slowly as if it was hesitating, the right turn signal blinked extremely fast, but the headlights and brake lights appeared to be working. this started happening on day 2 of ownership, as i was navigating through a parking lot after starting the car. i drove it a short distance to another parking lot, turned off the car, and waited a couple minutes before restarting the car. the problem continued.
