Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle restarted after the contact disconnected and reconnected the battery cable. on one other occasion, while driving approximately 55 mph, the front headlights independently powered off without warning. the headlights illuminated again when the vehicle was turned off and restarted. on another occasion, while the vehicle was parked, the contact depressed the unlock button on the fobik and the horn consistently sounded and the headlights flashed. the contact detached and reattached the battery cable and the lights powered off and the horn no longer sounded. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure was unable to be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

I was driving my car on a main 2 lane, 2 way road and i noticed that the rpms were suddenly decreasing even though my foot was on the gas. i had very little time to pull somewhat to the side before it completely died on me. i was just about to get onto the highway, this could have went out on me while i was on the highway with very little time or warning! this isn't the first time it has happened either it happened a few days before this as well but luckily i was pulling into my driveway. this is an extreme safety concern! i might not be this lucky the next time!!! is jeep going to wait until someone is seriously injured or killed because of this issue before they fix it?!? i have done some research and it seems that it could be the tipm which there have been recalls by jeep for this on other models and years, why not the liberty?! it seems that there are enough complaints for it. i have already had issues with my fuel pump and now this! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. while operating the vehicle, the doors would randomly lock and unlock, the windshield wipers and washer fluid would erroneously activate, and the horn and alarm would randomly sound. the contact also indicated that the fuel pump was faulty. the cause of the failures was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 84,656. ...updated 06/30/16 *bf *cn

Vehicle shuts off while driving without notice and will not start right away leave set for a 1/2 hour or so and it starts back up but horn blows wipers come on and doors will not unlock automatically this could be a real problem if in an accident due to shutting off on the freeway and i can not exit the vehicle.i was told that the problem is in the (tipm) and that there have been many problems with this but there is no recall. this in my opinion is a huge safety concern. *tr

1 year old battery died, bought a new one everything worked fine for a month, then my evap system malfunctioned, bought new one had system pressurized. ok everything is fine for about two months, lights flicker a little here and there, car doesn't turn over immediately, cd player shuts down on it's own, lost positrac in the rear, heater not warm unless over 2000 rpm, car still runs though. so battery dies just under 3 yeras later (still under warranty) odd.replaced free yay, only free thing in this whole endeavor. after replacing battery clockspring goes out, dammitt!!! replaced, not a week later lock fuses keep blowing. found out alternator has a built in relay that if it goes wreaks absolute horror on computor, and entire elec. system, it even controls the light on your dashboard indicating that it has gone out, brilliant. had i known this it could've saved many hours and close to $1,500. this should be fixed. *tr

When using my remote to unlock my 2008 jeep liberty, the horn starts honking, the windshield wipers (front and back) turn on, the windshield washers (front and back) shoot fluid, the door locks won't open and the headlights turn on and off. this has happened four times in the last two months. the headlights have also started turning off while driving and i'm unable to turn them back on. *tr

When drivers door was opened, vehicle horn, wipers both front and rear all began to operate and i was unable to start and maintain the engine running, it was necessary to disconnect the battery terminal in order to stop everything. a month later, i was in town and it did the same thing. in april while coming to a stop sign the vehicle stopped running and the horn, wipers and lights all began operating. i was able to control the vehicle until it stopped. the battery had to be disconnected in order to get the vehicle to run. the next afternoon, it did it again however disconnecting and reconnecting the battery did not solve the problem. i had to leave the battery disconnected all night in order for the vehicle to reset.

Car would not start after being parked for about 45 minutes. we guessed it was a battery, starter or alternator. had towed to dealership and was advised that the tipm was bad and needed to be replaced. after further review, i see that i was a lucky one as the tipm has all manner of issues when it starts to go bad. the dealer is telling me i have to wait 3 weeks for a backordered part due to a national recall of other model years. this is going to cost an unreasonable amount in both repair and rental car costs. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the adhesive would not hold the rear window in place and water leaked through the window. in addition, the odometer displayed an error message. the vehicle was taken to a dealer to be repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was unknown.

Two claims filed per this complaint. 1) sky slider leak; failure - overhaul/replacement required due to track/cable failure. was leaking into vehicle, as well as leaking into dome light. inspected per jeep authorized dealer, confirmed sky slider no longer properly sealing and has failed, requiring total system overhaul and replacement. referencing various nhtsa documented claims, it already a known issue and in need of resolution.. i was responsible for paying all costs associated with repair, which was over $4000.00 total. additionally, the vehicle has suffered a substantial drop in overall resale value due to vehicles reputation for having costly defects and overlooked for recall and warranty. dealer performed repair at my expense, but i am currently requesting that this claim is properly reviewed for a proper, more cost-effective solution to defective unit. 2) vehicle suffers from temporary rough idle and significant drops in rpm's, nearly stalling itself out. also begins suffering from intermittent loss of vehicle and device related functions such as loss of horn function, intermittent or partial lights function or window operation. on 2 different occasions while operating under the erratic conditions, the rear window hatch unlocked itself as though the button was hit on mfr. key fob. these issue occurs randomly and typically last no more than 5 minutes before normal operation returns. due to lack of information on the cause of this issue, what components are effected and what the specific defect is capable of performing, it is something needing to be looked into for proper resolution.

Heat decided to not work on the first 30 day w/ snow and ice. passenger vents are blowing luke warm air, and the drivers side blowing cold air. also, no air at all coming from the blower at the drivers feet. not happy about this as i had read 100's of complaints about the blend door not operating properly on jeeps of all types. this is a $1000 fit, and there should be a recall on the blend door. this is an absolute outrage! *tr

Prior to accident, the sky slider leaked water into the electrical roof light compacts dropping down into gear shift. also leaked into trunk and back seat of jeep from ceiling. even after repaired by dealership twice, it continued to leak water during and after rain. the automatic driver side window since leaking issues, has shorted and failed to close (go up) on a daily basis. deep front end collision had zero deployment of airbag in front- includes during/after passenger side rollover. only side air bags deployed. concussion and muscle spasms resulted from accident. body hit against steering column, head and arm against driver window and frame. entire week of unpaid medical leave from employer by doctors order. total loss of jeep. seatbelt held me in suspense while jeep was on it's side. although it left me with pains in hips, abdomen and legs, the seatbelt saved me from ending up in the window and glass in my skin from the rollover window glass breakage. feels like jeep initiated rollover upon front impact after having been stopped completely. ..updated 11/18/14 *bf updated 10/7/2015*js

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the headlights flickered, the horn activated independently, and the windshield wipers with wiper fluid independently activated. additionally, the vehicle jerked and stalled. the vehicle could be restarted. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician diagnosed that the tipm needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

It started a with when i got out of jeep and push button to lock the vehicle it wouldn't lock and the horn would not beep like it does when it locks so i had to lock it manually. when i got out of store and got back into jeep it worked and it only happens after the car has warmed up is what it seems like, then i was pulling into a turning lane and slowing down and heard a horn beep loud just to realize that it was my jeep that beeped and i never pressed the horn at all. then today i get into car and sit in seat and use the power seat button to adjust the driver seat and didn't even touch the steering wheel and didn't put the key in ignition either and my flashers started flashing but, then cut right off. when i got where i was going and parked my jeep it happened again the flashers started to flash and then stopped. when i walked up to the jeep without pressing any buttons my car unlocked on its own and the lights came on. sometimes my radio takes about 10 seconds or so before it starts to work. windshield wiper doesn't want to blow out any fluid says it needs a motor. have a slider roof and noticed that it has leaked previously cause i can see rain marks around the edges of the slider and when driving down the road i can hear wind from coming the roof so its not sealing like it should. i can have the heat on but, later in the day when it gets hot i will turn on the ac and the ac doesn't want to blow out cold air and i fiddle with the switches for a bit, i can finally get it to come on. i just bought it last january so i haven't even had it a year yet and always take it in for servicing please help me i have seen recalls for similar problems with the same jeep but, your site tells me no open recalls so how do i know if mine has been repaired? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the lights flashed, horn activated and windshield wipers with wiper fluid independently turned on. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the tipm needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

There has been an intermittent issue where the check engine light comes on followed by the traction control light (usually after making a left hand turn.) when this first started the vehicle was still under warranty, and went to jeep. they had our liberty for several days and swapped out the cam and crankshaft sensors to "fix" this problem. the car again was acting up within a month or so, and when we called the dealer back to bring it back in they advised us that the extended warranty that we paid a lot of money for was now expired. i took it to a local auto parts store to have the codes read. it was again code c121c, in conjunction with the codes relating to faulty cam and crankshaft sensors. since the service department stated that they replaced the cam and crankshaft sensors. i replaced the needed parts and this lasted maybe 20 miles, prior to the lights coming back on. i attempted to replace them a second time thinking i may have gotten a defective part or two, but it wound up being the same end result; about 10-20 miles in the check engine light and traction control lights came on. this prevented the vehicle from shifting into over drive, it prevents the vehicle from accelerating at a normal speed, and above 50 mph the whole vehicle will wildly shutter when you let your foot off the gas. jeep will not warranty the drive terrain even though the state the vehicle should have a 100k mile warranty on the drive terrain. *tr

Recently the battery died in my 2008 jeep liberty. i changed the battery and when i started up my vehicle and error message was displayed in the odometer window. i searched the internet and found that this is a common problem with this model vehicle. *tr

While car was in drive and traveling at 40 mph, the key in the ignition disengaged from the 'on' position to the accessory position and shut off the engine, power steering, etc. driver had to coast the dead vehicle to the side of the road to avoid being hit from behind. *tr

Purchased vehicle used in 2013 11/17/2015 1. engine continues to run when key is removed from ignition switch. while parked. first noticed last week 11/08/2015 (only as long as the preset time on the radio shut off or the door is opened) 2. with cruise control set and going up hill, transmission down shifts to maintain speed. while trying to keep speed up and then break applied, excessive force is required to dis-engage cruise control. while driving at normal speeds. for as long as i can remember. (break switch has been changed twice) 3. while filling fuel tank at gas station, paying close attention to the pump, fuel will pour out from the filler neck after the pump has shut off. for as long as i can remember. (many occasions) 4. check engine light continuously on. possible damage to hoses on emissions canister in left rear wheel well due to gas spillage? (as long as i can remember) 5. gas cap indicator comes on at start. possible damage to hoses on emissions canister in left rear wheel well due to gas spillage? (need to manually turn off, changed gas cap twice) 6. it seems that all things electrical have a delay to their function, flashing high beams, honking horn... while parked or driving. for as long as i can remember. (all of the time)

Got out my truck at walmart and the doors automatic locked when i closed the driver door the lights started flashing and the locks started locking and un locking. that was on june 3,2014. the really bad one happen on june16,2014 when i had my daughter and grandbaby with me i got out the car and it locked as usual and the lights started flashing and i could not get my daughter or grandbaby out it was very hot outside and i thought i was going to have to break the window. i am very afraid to drive my jeep. i feel trapped in it and i feel like something is going to happen if my kids or grandbaby is in there and it want let me in. i wake up some mornings and the battery is dead and want crank leaving my kids late for school. please help. *tr

Our jeep goes to dealer every 3000 miles for oil & filter change since we bought it new. this year i noticed the battery terminals had never been cleaned. i removed the terminals as i have done on hundreds of cars (as my bother and i had service/ gas stations for years) as a no charge courtesy. now i know why they never did the cleaning. as soon as you remove the terminals for any reason the error message will most likely show up. now they want $600.00 plus state taxes to effect repairs. no guarantee that it won't happen again. help us please. *tr

Occasion 1. vehicle parked. lights began flashing, horn sounding, washers squirting, door locks operating. unable to exit vehicle. trapped inside with 4 year old grandson for ten minutes. ignition key inoperable. finally managed to get vehicle ignition going, and drove home. vehicle power fluctuating causing uncontrollable power surges. occasion 2. vehicle approaching junction at 10 mph. lights. horn, washers, doorlocks operating - pulled vehicle over, unable to engage park, removed key from ignition - vehicle engine still running but managed to engage park, however then could not get it out of park. exited vehicle , engine still running, lights, horn etc actuating, and could not re-enter vehicle. numerous complaints of this on this website as well as various jeep forums. contact with jeep gives no response other than vehicle out of warranty see your dealer. this is a systemic problem, not a spurious one off specific vehicle fault and could be a safety concern given the lack of control you have over basic vehicle powertrain and driveabiltiy functions. jeep had already repaired the vehicle under warranty once before for same fault. removing battery connections resets the system until the problem re-occurs.throws error code p0883 occasionally when in this malfunctioning mode. *tr

My car battery died. after replacing battery i have an error message displayed across the odometer. i have tried resetting the panel. had it scanned and found nothing..disconnected the battery cable for over an hour, did not reset the message. was told the pcn needed to be flashed. cost $200 dollars. i have seen numerous complaints for the same thing and wondering why there isn't a recall of what ever is going on. all of the stories are the same. loss of battery power when they turn car on after reconnecting battery. the error message occurs and does not go away. this should really be a recall it is effecting a lot of jeep liberties. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. the contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the fuse box needed to be replaced. the vehicle was being repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage and vin was not available.

Vehicle will loose power while at hwy speed. as if slamming on brakes dash lights light up as your seatbelt locks and you slam forward. headlights will turn off while inside dash lights remain on. must use brights to drive or pull over. windows, seats move themselves. while vehicle is off and unattended. sometimes while pulling in a parking spot car lunges forward. sometimes while sitting at a red light it just powers off and must be restarted. evidence of a leak somewhere can not be located. the leak has stained a little on the inside roof. *tr

February 2014: opened my car with the key when the fob wouldn't work. horn and radio blared, both front and rear windshield wipers turned on, in addition to all dashboard lights. continued for 10 minutes until battery was disconnected. in that time, the car would not start. after 5 minutes, the battery was reconnected and the car started without issue. april 2014: while turning into a gas station, my jeep completely stopped. after waiting 2 minutes it started again. i took it to my local mechanic who cleaned corrosion around the battery. 2 weeks later, i was driving on a 3 lane highway, began to decelerate and at approximately 25mph, the jeep's engine turned off. at the same time, all of the dashboard lights turned on in addition to the horn and windshield wipers. thankfully i was able to coast to the shoulder without incident, where the jeep continued the same behavior for about 10 minutes, and then abruptly stopped. the car would not start again until the battery was disconnected and then reconnected. i brought it to a chrysler dealer that evening and detailed the issues. they monitored it for 3 days, but ultimately returned the car stating they could not find any issues but could replace module for almost $1000! may 2014: replaced the battery and had minimal issues including windshield wipers randomly starting and stopping, but no horn or shut down issues, until... june 2014: a similar incident occurred that mirrored the april deceleration incident. at this point i disconnected my horn--a safety issue, but the blaring was becoming increasingly inconvenient. a week later the car turned off while pulling into a parking space. when i exited the the store and attempted to start the car, it started without incident. since june, the jeep has only exhibited minor issues such as the windshield wipers randomly starting, but it's only a matter of time. *tr

I bought the jeep march of 2014. upon purchase there seemed to be an odd noise coming from the front end. i was assured that it was caused by oversized tires. the tires were different from the standard factory but nothing that should cause that noise while driving. i asked if i could have my mechanic look at and call them for the repair. they agreed. i called a few days later after finding that the front end had some issues as well as the horn and other electrical things didn't work. i was concerned because of the safety violation. they fixed it all at no cost to me. one year later the horn and buttons stopped working again. i went in and told them what was going on and asked for the write up from last time. the write up stated that they repaired the tipm module well enough to get it to function but it would need to be replaced. i was never told this. i asked them what could be done since they didn't really fix it the first time. we came to the agreement that i would pay for labor and they would pay for the part. september 2015, while driving down the freeway i went to honk my horn only to find it wasn't working. it worked just a few hours prior. i called the dealership and spoke to the service manager and explained what was going on. he told me that it sounded like the tipm module again, and that they would warranty the part and fix it. i took it in and was then told that they would need to diagnose and make sure that it was the tipm module. i would need to pay a diagnostic fee and then pay for the fix if it wasn't that part. it ended up not being the tipm module and i was told that it was going to be a minimum of 300 dollars in labor, plus the 100 diagnostic fee for today, and whatever part needed to be replaced. i told them that i was told it was the tipm module and that i wasn't able to pay that much and felt completely ripped off.

The vehicle's lights, horn, wipers, radio will start flashing inexplicably. when turning off the motor it continues. 2-3 times the motor cut out too. this happens about 8-10 times a year.

Replaced driver side door key lock, had to remove inner door pnl, (disconnected battery), after job was complete and started for first time, noticed that the (digital) dashboard odometer instead of showing mileage indicated the word "error". investigated on internet and discovered many other people are having same "error" message appear on odometer after disconnecting battery. *js

The radio has a short and the front speakers do not work. radio needs to be replaced. *tr

While driving the vehicle, water began to seep out of the maplights and down both a-frame pillars. panoramic moon roof stopped closing all the way after a wind storm and was open enough to cause major leakage (upwards of 3 gallons of water). i feel this is defective and could have caused a major accident, as traveling at high rate of speed, this could have resulted in the roof flying open. manufacturer has stated it is not an issue that they provide any assistance with, and the repairs will be over $7000. *tr

The door locks in the car no longer lock, the windshield wiper fluid doesn't come out anymore, and the windshield wipers works some times. all of the problems listed after can affect the owner of the car, and any passengers. especially the door locks i know me myself i have two younger children who could be effected by this hazard do to the doors not locking on their own. also the windshield wipers are a big must to clean debris off the front windshield is needed, and the fluid as well. *tr

My roof is a soft top . some how it shorted out. burning up my battery, my roof will not close how ever it opened own its on. my outlet never have worked. so i have leeks left and right front inside. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. the contact stated that when he started the vehicle, an error message displayed on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer however, they were unable to locate the problem. in addition, the odometer gauge would not display a mileage reading. the driver's side power window also became inoperable. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 59,000.

When vehicle is or is not in motion the vehicles lights, horn, turn signals, instrument gauges, and windshield wiper begin to malfunction and operate on its own squirting all the windshield wiper fluids, headlights flickering, horn honking on it's own and instrument panel gauges flicker and flashing, until either battery dies or battery becomes disconnected. *tr

Check engine light come on and gas cap light also come on the auto start will not work & dash light gets real dime also gps light get real dime/ and there is a real strong smell of gas that comes inside the vehicle while going down the road. the vehicle has been to 4 difference chrysler dealer ship and computer has been replaced sensor have all been replaced gas tank replaced gas cap replaced .this vehicle has been for these problem 11 times and has never been fixed called chrysler customer service 6 different times all we get is the run around . the dealer ships drive the vehicle and have put 1,500 mile on the vehicle driving it. need some know to why this can not be fixed. *tr

Sky slider roof assembly partially opened and will not close. *tr

The sunroof leaks into the headliner causing mold and also affecting the electrical wires in the headliner. we have a 3 year old son and i believe that this could cause a threat to him as well as my wife who's drives the car. it has been brought to my attention that jeep is aware of the problem with this model as well as other models that have the same problem, i am a ware that it is a used car but with the research that i have done its not the fact that it is used, it was a problem that was wrong when this 2008 jeep had when it rolled off the line, and i'm conserened for my wife and sons safety as well as so many other dealing with this same problem!!!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. the contact was driving 30 mph when the electrical components of the vehicle malfunctioned as the vehicle stalled. the contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer where the dealer advised the contact that the computer and fuse box malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired due to a back order of the parts needed for repairs. the failure mileage was 81,000. updated 02/15/12*lj the consumer stated the engine shut down and all the lights started flashing. the horn started honking, the windshield wipers activated and there was no power to the vehicle. the vehicle was towed and eventually repaired. updated 02/17/12

The car decides when it wants to start. it just makes a clunking noise, after about 8 tries it will start. i have replaced the battery, starter and wiring harness. the doors just started to not lock or unlock a few months back. they told me to change the tipm. i have put in well over $1000.00 an now they want another $500.00. *tr

While driving my jeep liberty, the wipers and horn came on suddenly and the entire electrical panel lit up. after taking it to the dealer several times, they finally determined it was the tipm module that needed to be replaced. the part was backordered. i have since found there is a national backorder (since 2010) with over 270+ in my area alone. the issue became progressively worse as i would get in my car and it would not start. unlocking the vehicle appears to cause the automobile to engage something electrical (though i only open it manually - not with the keyless entry) which results in the vehicle acting as though it is already on. most recently, while driving on the freeway at 70mph, i had a jolt before the wipers/horn went off and the emergency brake light was on. i believe the system is now engaging the emergency brake. i have discontinued driving the vehicle as a result. i believe this vehicle is a lemon. there are multiple complaints online with many other jeep owners experiencing the same issues. *tr

While driving to work the car alarm, front and back windshield wipers, and the windshield wiper fluid activated. after a single incident the jeep liberty was taken in and had the multifunction switch replaced. the following week the problem happened again, going on and off for 10-15 minutes. the dealership indicated that it was the total integrated power module. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 jeep liberty. the contact was driving 65 mph when the front end started to shake abnormally. in addition, the vehicle stalled several times and sporadically, would fail to start. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer where the dealer replaced the electrical wiring harness. the repair did not remedy the stalling or shaking failure. the failure mileage was 26,000. *js

Power windows fail to open, or fail to close if ever opened. *tr

I have had a ding for no reason that occurs all the time sometimes once a day some times every few mins. then while towing a trailer, which is only 6 x 12 and well under max tow limits esp not working light will come on and go off at very annoying intervals, once this starts 4x4 light comes on, then service 4wheel drive comes on. have taken vehicle in numerous times and been charged close to 1000. dollars and no fix. they keep telling me it's a sensor but they replace and no good. the vehicle seems to be driving perfectly well but on my last trip the transmission light came on and vehicle wouldn't drive right. i have the trans cooler on and fluid levels where good and after a few minutes light went out and i drove 400 more miles no problem...help! *tr

At startup, first noticed windshield wipers were on and would not shut off. all dash lights, gauges, etc were not operating. vehicle could not be taken out of park position. (vehicle was used the night prior in a light rain) turned vehicle on and off several times to no avail. at dealership was told the cluster was bad..but there are so many having this problem that the part is backlogged by 4 months or more. computer was reflashed, so everything is working except the odometer. cannot pass inspection without getting a new cluster since that is the only means to show the odometer..yet its backlogged 4 months. how is this possible if its a vital truck part? *tr

2008 jeep liberty. consumer writes regarding electrical/ computer problems *tgw the consumer stated from the beginning he had intermittent electrical problems. the alarm would go off, the lights would come on and go off, the windshield wipers and washers would not activate. the dealer kept the vehicle for several days, but were unable to isolate the problem. *jb
