We have classified the 21 complaints from 2005 Jeep Liberty about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. while driving approximately 60 mph, the rear passenger side window fell inside the door panel. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
The radiator on this vehicle has been replaced times in the 8 years i have owned it. it has 7 recalls, the window on the passenger side is broken, the sensors in the engine have been replaced twice. the radiator is plastic and looks like something out of a bubble gum machine. it also has a plastic cooling fan, not metal, which also broke. i have put as much money in this vehicle as i paid for it. the brakes are horrid and go out constantly. i only have a 5 mile commute to work. the vehicle is serviced on a regular basis. it is a huge disappointment. i got this vehicle because we had owned several jeeps and liked them. this vehicle is always breaking down. the fan doesn't work on the heater except on high. the alternator has been replaced twice. the exhaust has been replaced twice. i would never buy a jeep product again after this. *tr
The window regulator (power windows) decided to no longer hold up the window (it rarely gets used). was partially down so i went to open the rear drivers side door and it would not open. i wanted to prop the window up which i was able to do with a suction cup. i have read many many complaints about this happening on these vehicles. seems like a problem the manufacturer should have to repair via recall. *tr
My 17 year old daughter drives this car. i have a huge problem with this vehicle having a recall and parts not being available to fix it. also this vehicle has a broken window regulator on the rear passenger door. from what i have been able to find there are thousands of people who have had to replace this part multiple times. i think this should not be the responsibility of the consumer. something is obviously not working if this has to be replaced multiple times. *tr
Power window regulator defective. this plastic regulator breaks and the window drops down. this is a plastic part that has had numerous complaints. chrysler has even offered extended warranties on select model years on this part, yet has not acknowledged it as a defective part that cost consumers hundreds of dollars to replace as each regulator goes out one by one on your vehicle. this part needs to be replaced with a metal regulator. the average cost to replace this part is $300-$500 each time it fails! *js
As i was driving down the road my window just dropped into the door. i was driving my foster dog to adoptions. when i pulled over to see what happened he jumped out if the open window. since then the only window that works is the driver side. apparently this is an issue with the liberty. i thank god a child was not in the seat when the window went down. i have informed jeep but they do not care. *tr
Defective window regulators. everyone knows about them. just type in 2005 jeep liberty window regulator and see all the hits. the window regulators are bad on all jeep libertys from 2002-2007. i have sent information before but it seems no one cares until someone dies. i have contacted the dealer, chrysler, bbb, the state attorney general and several tv stations. i have also told several federal government agencies including nhtsa but again no one cares about the american citizen. the ones who pay the bills. when it fails the window slides down without any warning so your car becomes unsafe and you are unable to lock it or secure the car. the glass can slide down in the door or break in the door. then you take it to the dealer and he charges you $400 to fix a known defective. chrysler and the dealers love it. you make money when you sell a car with a defect and then charge the person everytime the defect fails. it is a win win for chrysler and its dealers. the public is getting the shaft. imagine not going certain places because you are afraid your car is not safe to take there or not going over night because of your car. how about i stop at a red light and a guys gets in my back seat with a knife or a gun and kills me due to my broken window regulator. the window falls down and the rain stains the seats another issue the seats stain even from water. not to mention the other issues i have had the belt tensior, the horn, the roof rack, the parking brake, the master cylinder, window regulators, window regulators, the list goes on and on. i see there are over 60 complaints about it on your website so when can i expect something to be done. when will there be a recall on window regulators on jeep liberty's? maybe we need someone to go postal at a dealership to get attention. not me. there is a known defect and with tons of evidence so fix it. *tr
All 2005 jeep liberty's have defective window regulators that break even when the window is not used. chrysler knows about it but does not care. they sell a car with a defective product and when it breaks they have the dealer replace the defective part with another defective part and charge you $400. it is fraud plain and simple. when the window drops down without warning the glass can break and injure someone. items can be tossed into the car such as stones or debris from other drivers. people can enter your car and attack you or kill you since the car cannot be locked. you cannot leave items in your car because it is never secure. when the window falls air rushes into your car if you are driving along with rain, snow and sleet which makes it difficult to drive depending on what window it is. it stains the seats. i have contacted other gov.'t agencies and some tv stations. if nothing is done i will contact other tv stations until something is done. *tr
I was parked and preparing to leave work when my window dropped down into the door. i see that a recall was done on this same issue for my vehicle, but not my year.. i have a 2005 and they are only covering this issue for 2006 forward... why.. if it is an issue with this model, than shouldn't the other years be covered as well? *tr
Three out of four windows- loose and disconnected from window assembly. possible dangers from tossed/flailing glass. one would think chrysler would be concerned with this safety issue with inferior parts and post recalls on defective window regulators and assist their clients for repairs of these part in order to avoid a possible disastrous situation.
The rear passenger side window regulator broke due to wear of a plastic component. the window slides down completely and causes the car to be open to the elements/thieves. the rear driver side window regulator had the same issue the previous year. *tr
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the rear driver and passenger side windows opened independently. the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer diagnosis where it was stated that the window motor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000. kmj
The passenger window regulator went out.the window just went down and doesn't go up. when i push the button, for the window to go up it just makes a noise. *tr
First the drivers rear regulator failed, causing the window to fall and break inside the door. i replaced both the window and the regulator. six months later the passenger rear regulator failed and the window dropped in the door. this time it did not break the glass. just a month after the warranty on the driver rear expired, it failed again. now i have no working back windows. the service manager at the local dealership acknowledged this as an issue but stated there is no recall. he recommended that i take it up with chrysler. they claim it the problem exists but not with this year. they told me because i did not buy it new nor use the dealership for my service they would not help. with the glass breaking this is more than an inconvenience, it is dangerous. chrysler knows this is an issue and is ripping people off by charging them over $400.00 to replace these with parts that will fail again. *tr
While driving down the interstate, i heard a clunk. my back window behind driver had slipped down. i called my personal mechanic, not dealer, and he diagnosed it over the phone as the regulator. he told me it was common in jeeps. while at the mechanic's, another customer said her father's jeep had done the same thing. the mechanic told me to be glad that my window did not break. i was charged to replace the regulator $300. i have no children and my back window is never used. too many people have spent hundreds of dollars for this repair. this is definitely an inferior product and should be recalled. customers should not be expected to pay for this repair. i only hope i can get rid of my jeep before i have another window regulator fail!!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. while parked, the rear driver side window glass detached and fell into the door panel. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. the technician stated the lifting bar on the rear driver side door had caused the failure and would have to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
Jeep - since 2002 has had 1000's of complaints /repairs regarding the rear window regulator breaking over and over, and this also causing the rear door to jam so it can not be opened. they have known this issue has been going on due to the regulator is plastic, and repeatedly breaks... not being able to the open the door is a safety concern... there are 1000's of blogs from people who have replaced these regulators multiple times, and jeep refusing to reimburse or file a recall - i have a jeep liberty 2005, and i now have had to replace both the passenger / driver side regulator, and both times the doors jammed... please investigate this for the 1000's of jeep owners that having to put out $300+ each time this occurs... with the economy the way it is, we just can't afford a new car, or having to pay for the same repair over and over and over... also, if you window won't stay close, it opens your jeep for being vandalized or even stolen..... *tr
It is a well documented fact regarding the continued negligence of chrysler/jeep regarding the defective window regulators. the window regulator controls the electric window and keeps it in place. with no warning the defective part frequently breaks causing the window to fall into the door-the window cannot be rolled up. the first time this happened 11/09 i had two small children in the back seat during a thunderstorm. i was traveling on the freeway. suddenly the window dropped into the rear drivers door. the children started screaming as rain came into the vehicle and i had to pull over onto the side of the freeway. i had to call for help and a family member drove 60 miles to pick up the children as we sat on the side of the road with pouring rain coming into the vehicle. after investigating the matter and spending 357.00 to get it fixed,i realised this has become a chronic safety issue for this vehicle. jeep fixes the window with the same faulty part, they reimbursed me for most of the cost however 21 months later..... the same thing all over again and this time they don't want to cover it and of course they still fix it with the same dangerous part. it now costs 400-500$ to fix it. thousands of jeep liberty owners have dealt with this problem over and over. i don't understand how chrysler/jeep can get away with this blatant safety issue. *tt
I have had to replace both back passenger window systems. both went down with seemingly no cause and it cost hundreds to repair each. no one ever rides in the back of my car. this should not happen, but i understand it's common in these vehicles. should not be allowed by consumer protection. *tr
2005 jeep liberty window operation fails repeatedly due to poor design and inferior components. *tr
We have a 2005 jeep liberty that we purchased new. since that point the rear windows have spontaneously fallen down five times. 3 times the windows were replaced under warranty, the last two times jeep has refused to cover the repair since the vehicle is out of warranty. the repair cost is approx $400 each time and they replace the broken part with the same faulty part that breaks again. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty sport. the contact was driving 25 mph when the driver side rear window fell into the door panel. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the mechanic confirmed the failure. the manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 138,000 and the current mileage was 140,000.
I've had multiple window regulator failures (leaving my car open to theft and damage), seat belt broken, and air condition compressor, and rear axel problems. all issues happened shortly after the warranty expired. *tr
Since buying my 2005 jeep liberty new 6 years ago...i have had to replace the mechanism that keeps the windows up eight times. out of that 8 times, jeep has made me pay for 4 of them! obviously a defective part...shame on jeep! *tr
The window regulator has recently quit working on three of the four windows on my 2005 jeep liberty. without any warning, the windows just fell down. because the regulator is not working, it is impossible to roll the windows back up. until the vehicle is repaired, the only way to try and keep the windows closed is to tape them in place. i am extremely afraid someone will be able to gain access to the vehicle while it is parked and/or at a stop. the vehicle is truly not safe and secure as long as i cannot roll the windows up 100%. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep liberty. the contact stated the rear driver's side window regulator recurringly failed. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer to have the vehicle diagnosed where the dealer stated that the regulator clip was fractured. the regulator clip was repaired however, the failure recurred. the manufacture was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not further repaired. the failure mileage was 60,000.
Power window has failed and allowed the glass to fall inside the door on three different windows. this has happened on my gasoline 2005 liberty on three occasions beginning in 2010 and on my diesel 2005 liberty, once in 2011. *tr
All windows in doors have fallen down and cannot be closed. *tr
Jeep liberty 2005 windows. 2 out of 4 windows have fallen and no longer can be closed. the windows fell on their own without hitting and bumps or pot holes while driving. the window motor hums but the windows will not move up or down. this is a recurringroblem for jeep and we ask the company to recall and correct this matter. it should be taken care of by the company so they do not continue to lose the confidence of their costumers. *tr
Rear, drivers side window falls down into door and cannot be lifted using switch. the same window has been repaired twice already once in march 08 then again march 09. jeep reimbursed me 1/2 for first repair and 100% for second. i have requested jeep pay for repair again but do not yet know if they will. *tr
My rear drivers side power window had broken twice on my 2005 jeep liberty. it seems as if it comes off it's track and the window moves freely in the frame. it falls down into the inner part of the door when i hit a bump. i have had this repaired once before for a rather large fee. i have heard numerous complaints of the same description from other drivers of jeep liberty's from all of the power windows. something needs to be done about this because it is not fair that i have to pay for bad engineering on the part of chrysler. *tr
Researching issues related to my 2005 jeep liberty (3.7 limited 4 x 4). repeated electronic issues with windows - came across others with same issue. exactly how many repairs has jeep chrysler done on jeep liberties... just thought you should know. it's not cheap - read info at: http://www.denlorstools.com/autoblog/2009/02/jeep-liberty-power-window-problems-diy-tips/. *tr
Rear power window of my 2005 jeep liberty fell down while car was parked, leaving the car open and unprotected. called dealer, and he asked "is this your first time?" he says it is super common, and a design fault. *tr
2005 jeep liberty - driver side rear window fell down into the door interior and will not return to a closed position. - spontaneous failure - for comparable complaints: http://www.denlorstools.com/autoblog/2009/02/jeep-liberty-power-window-problems-diy-tips/. *tr
Rear window regulators on 2005 jeep liberty sport have failed 5 times, resulting in the window glass falling into the door well: left rear 20,000 2006 under warranty left rear 40,717 2007 $255.58 left rear 55,141 2010 $293.77 left rear 70,700 2010 zip locked shut right rear 70,971 2010 zip locked shut. *tr
Rear windows on both the drive and the passenger side drop into the door panel while driving - mechanic said it is due to a faulty regulator but no recall has been issued even though they have seen multiple reports for the same problem. i am frightened since this a huge safety and theft hazard! *tr
Window regulator on rear driver's side door failed. regulator failure prevented the rear driver's side door from opening and made the door inoperable as an exit. *tr
Power windows defective. *tr
I have a 2005 jeep liberty. i have had all 4 window regulators fail and 2 of them fail twice. i don't understand why there has not been a recall. i was just driving down the road one time and the rear window just fell down. i never ever even use the rear windows! please help! *tr
2005 jeep liberty back rear window fell down into door. will not go up and needs new regulator. dealership stated it would cost $400 to repair. after further research i see this is a huge problem and should be recalled. we bought the car brand new and no one ever rides in the back seat. honestly, the rear windows have probably only been rolled down twice. *tr
Left rear passenger window equipment failure. window slides to an open position without assistance - remains open & will not respond to mechanism. *tr
The window regulators continuously break. the windows creep down and cannot be rolled back up. often, the windows fall down into the door causing a potential safety hazard for children or pets that could fall out of a moving vehicle. there is also a considerable theft and safety opportunity as the window regulators break without notice, allowing someone to reach into the vehicle. the left rear window regulator in my vehicle has broken four times now (it happens approximately every nine months), and the right rear window has broken once. i have been told by the service repair technicians to expect the problem to continue to occur, as the plastic part that is being replaced has not been changed in design. this last time that the left rear window regulator broke, a thick metal cable lodged itself into the latch in the door. the rear left door could not be opened. this is an obvious safety hazard in the even of an accident as an emergency crew would not be able to get the door open, nor could a passenger get out if need be. *tr
Driver's side power window mechanism broke - the window fell into the bottom of door panel. this happened last year on my left side passenger door window and is a known problem to jeep. however, instead of recalling this and fixing it, i had to pay $520 for a repair to the dealer. this is dangerous, because it happens at any time without warning, and there is no way to put the window up once it falls down into the door. i was fortunate that i was not far from home or on a trip when this happened, or it could have been extremely dangerous. there are thousand of people owning jeep liberties with this problem. *tr
Rear driver window just fell into the door. seems the power window regulator broke and you must buy the entire unit not just the piece that broke. i have researched this online and this is usual occurrence on this vehicle. there should be a recall. also chrysler seems to drag their feet on recalls. i turned in my recall card over a year ago on the ball joint recall and have yet to get a call to bring my 2005 jeep liberty in. this is unacceptable especially since the ball joints are such an integral part of the suspension.....i am afraid of my safety whenever i get on the highway fearing these joints are going to give out. please help!!! *tr
I had to have two window regulators repaired. since then i have had to have all the window regulators repaired some of them multiple times for a total of eight. currently i have 2 more that need to be replaced. i had customer care at chrysler discount the repair of two of them through a complaint procedure at jeep in july 2011. they refuse to help any more because of the previous repair work provided. *tr
The right rear window regulator failed on my 2005 jeep liberty. it cannot be rolled up or down. it will not stay rolled up and is a safety hazard as well as a theft issue. *tr
Rear window regulator failure at 52,000 miles dead bolting door. *tr
I'm aware that this is a common defect, but perhaps there's strength in numbers. i've had no problems with my jeep up until a few weeks ago, it had been parked for about a month when one day i noticed that the rear drivers side window was down about 3-4". i turned on the vehicle to discover that the regulator appeared to have gone out. this is especially odd considering the window's been used maybe 3 times since the vehicle was new. now, since i refuse to pay $300 to fix something that the manufacturer has admitted to being defective (i.e. their fault), i'm stuck dealing with a visual impairment and security issue that could lead to ether an accident or the theft of the vehicle itself. when driving, as i often do in my vehicle, especially on the interstate, i need to be able to look over my shoulder and quickly determine at times whether or not it is safe for me to move over. the fact that the window falls at the slightest bump, not all the way down, but just enough so that the top of the glass presents a visual impairment that causes me to have to unnecessarily maneuver to try and see. there is also the matter of occupant exposure to the elements and the fact that since the window will fall for no apparent reason any time, day or night, in use or not, this presents a wonderful target for would-be thieves and burglars. *tr
Component: visibility:power window devices and controls details: the left rear window regulator failed on my 2005 jeep liberty. it could not be rolled up or down. safety hazard as well as a theft issue. never have back seat passengers and this window has not been used more then 5 times. vehicle mileage less than 45,000. *tr
2005 jeep liberty rear door window slid down into the door on the highway, causing driver to get off the gas and divert his attention to the rear window. this is a "known issue with the jeep liberty" as stated by the dealer, but they will not make a permanent fix. is it going to take a family pet or child to get injured or killed before something is done. this is the 2nd time the rear door window has dropped into the door. *tr
