Problems with 2004 Jeep Liberty ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The steering gear is coming apart and is slipping which causes it to feel like you're driving sideways down the road. the windows will not go down without making a horrible noise and the thermostat housing needs to be replaced. after driving the jeep it smells like its been on fire.

Jeep was shut off and in park in parking lot when flames were seen coming out from under the hood. by the time the fire dept. arrived, the fire had started to breach the firewall in the front of the jeep.

Lights flicker when driving at night . temporary loss of sight of the road . major safety issue . i see mulitple complaints with no fixes , and no recall. online shows different models other than jeep liberty with the same issue . i am not sure why they are not taking this seriously . someone could die get seriously injured, also you could run over someone or animal when the blindness occurs it has last several minutes before the lights come back on . try to pull over to the side of the road with complete blindness very scary . this happens every time i drive at night . the time intervals between the flickering varies. if nothing is done which i hope is not the case it has been documented in case i have an accident die or kill someone.

All door locks stopped working

Takata recall the drivers side ball joint sheared off because it cant be greased .. the wheel fell off in a parking lot .. the passengers side is doing the same shearing off .. it made a whining noise on the drivers aide and is not making a noise on passenger side

I purchased my 2004 jeep liberty in 2009 with 16k miles on it. in 2010 i had to have the passenger's side window regulator replaced at $200. in 2011 the back driver's side window had the same issue, but now the repair was quoted at being at least $400. in late 2016 the back passenger window did the same thing. this week march 2017 the driver's side front window has done the same thing and no longer stays up. all of these have happened while driving either on a city street or highway while moving.

The swing gate fails to open, the window will pop up but the gate will not release at all. the swing gate only allows for a keyless entry. would this fall under recall no.d09? i have read that many other jeep liberty owners online experiencing the same issue, when i tried to researching for a fix. periodically prior to this gate would pop up on dash display.there is concern that motor controlling this may malfunction and come open on it's own. *tr

I went to lock my doors after i came from the dealer and i noticed both my back doors do not lock. i believe this is a safety issue because the back doors do not lock when i am driving down the road and i have 1 year old that like to touch everything including door handles. *tr

As i press the unlock button on my remote the door remains locked. i needed to have the door opened to change the taillights, but the door couldn't open so i took it to the dealer since i only owned the truck for a year.they said it would cost me about $200.00 to open the door and change the bulb, . because the door actuator was busted.i couldn't afford that because the bulb only cost me $5.99. i only wanted the door open to change the taillight myself.well i returned home only to tell my neighbor the problem, he took off the panel and un locked the door changed the bulb in 10 minutes and told me the problem is the plastic hinge not the actuator , he rigged a string so that i can unlock the door until i can find the part, but no one sells the part.it is a small latch that unlocks the door. very simple. the best part is neighbor fixed it for now for free!! *tr

I had been having this problem around three weeks ago, at hot weather i turn the a\c on, and after 10 minutes the engine starts reheating, i already take it to the chrysler jeep dealer, and they told me that they don't know what happens that everything is ok, my husband even scan the car and he got the po480, and they said that no everything is ok, i told them the situation that im worry about the reheating cause three days ago i has at the i95 at 65 mph, and it stars reheating very fast, i just pull over the car , but it can start a fire under the hood or something i saw a lot of smoke, i told them, and they said that they couldn't find anything that everything is ok. so if jeep itself cant not find the problem , who can.....? they said ....we don't know!!!!! this is a very weird situation , that the jeep itself can not find a problem in a car that they make. *tr

Same as some of the other complaints; vehicle refused to start. random at first, the wouldn't start at all. towed to dealer and entire steering column has to be replaced to fix one small part, which is on backorder. will contact the manufacturer tomorrow to complain, doubt it will help. i have seen multiple complaints with this issue, jeep should do something about it! $800 in repairs. last jeep/chrysler i will ever own. i don't have the vin right now, as the vehicle and registration are at the shop. *tr

Rear driver side passenger window literally fell into the door for no apparent reason. the window now has to be taped up continuously and the window falling down can be a hazard and dangerous of kids in the back. not to mention this is a very large and common problem with this model. jeep/chrysler needs to recall this defect in workmanship and parts a to make sure the windows just don't fall down into the door. this is not a result of abuse just lousy parts and design and workmanship. its dangerous and needs to be recalled. google the problem and see how many thousands have complained. then think about those that have not complained. *tr

Car just shuts off on highway... this has happened several times.... after restarting works okay as if re-starting booting electrical system... engine light on.. rear hatch does not open... i believe this vehicle has major electrical problems from what i have read and experienced... *tr

Driver's seat heater felt extremely hot against my back while driving. leaned forward and smelled a burning odor, also felt jacket and back of seat which were both extremely hot and immediately turned off the heated seats. upon arriving at work,got out of the vehicle and saw the front seat leather against where my back was had been burned, as well as the back of my jacket. called the chrysler recall phone number and was told that although there was a recall for the jeep grand cherokee for the heated seats malfunctioning and overheating, that there was not a recall available for the same problem with the jeep liberty. because the vehicle's warranty is expired, they said they will not cover expenses due to repairs. i then called my local dealer, who also said i would be responsible for repairs since there is not a recall for this model of jeep. upon searching the web, there are numerous accounts of other jeep liberties with this issue, including a court case that was filed 10/29/12 for a 2004 jeep liberty which the heated seats generated dangerously high temperatures in which a consumer endured third degree burns. this is a serious safety issue, which could potentially cause a fire or injury to consumers. *tr

The window regulator has failed in the window. this is a well known problem. just sitting at a light and the window falls down because of a small plastic piece that holds the window up breaks. *tr

Vehicle indicated that passenger front door was ajar, this after ten minutes of driving. door was in fact not ajar. passenger opened and closed door just to check, door then would no longer fully close. pulled manual lock to see if it was stuck, whole piece came out. smoke started pouring out of hole and door metal was very hot to the touch. removed door panel to put out fire inside. lock actuator motor melted down and parts were smoldering. during this process the electronic back glass popped open as well and will no longer latch either. chrysler recalled some 2004 liberty's for these motors overheating and seizing, was informed that this vehicle was not included and that we should have 'maintained the wiring in the door'. this vehicle is meticulously maintained! *tr

June 13, 2013, third window regulator to fail within one year on my jeep liberty. failed window regulators are front left and right windows, and left rear window. very frustrated and disappointed with chrysler and how they are handling a known issue. after speaking with several employees and manager at the chrysler dealership. they have told me that chrysler is aware of the defect but they are unable to repair the failed window regulators at no cost to me. therefore i continue to drive my jeep liberty without any working windows which presents a safety issue in the event of an accident. i have no way of getting out of my vehicle and it's an inconvenience to pull up to drive thru without being able to roll down my windows. chrysler, i'm sure you have heard this complaint many times. i would greatly appreciate if you would take care of your customer base and do a recall on these window regulators. thank you. *tr

I attempted to start the car but the starter wouldn't turn over. i checked the fuses and relays for the ignition system, and everything was ok. i had to have the car towed to the dealer. the dealer told me that the entire steering column had to be replaced, because 2 tabs which held the ignition switch were broken. i've searched online sites and find that there seems to be all kinds of problems with the steering column and ignitions switches on the jeep liberty. cost of this "minor" repair $600 plus towing. mileage 82k. *tr

When trying to roll down front driver window, it made noise and cable worm came up in between glass and door jam, flapping on inside of window. window still worked but the cable wire would come loose sometimes and window would either not roll all the way down, or not roll down at all and other times would roll down just fine. i rolled the window down the other day and the cable wire came flapping up while the window glass is stuck inside the door. had to pry window out of door and tape shut. window motor still makes sound but no longer operates window. *tr
