We have classified the 17 complaints from 2004 Jeep Liberty about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact heard a noise emerging from the rear driver side door similar to an engine running. the contact arrived at her house and noticed that the rear driver side window was down. the window motor would not bring the window back up. the contact also stated that the vehicle was repaired for the front driver side window motor last year. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired again. the approximate failure mileage was 87,000.
driving down the road window fell down into the door and the window was closed and i just feel down. very dangerous. *tr
Rear passenger window failed during thunder storm and fell into door, online research indicates this is a common problem with this car. *tr
Simply rolled up my window then it stopped and window fell down. took off the door panel to examine and the cable still moved but made a lot of noise and window didn't move. this is the second time i've had this issue. i replaced the rear passenger window regulator when i purchased the car and now that one is messed up also. the one that recently broke is the front right window. also my head lamp is showing issue with not coming on and i've already tested the stirring column switch. *tr
The rear driver's side window fell out of the track; i tried rolling the window up but nothing happened. this is the second time the window regulator has broken. apparently, this is a common problem with older jeep liberty models and from what i have read, the regulator is made of plastic instead of metal and the part is made to break often. i am tired of fixing the problem again and again!
Driver side back left window regulator has failed twice. from my research, this is a common problem for the jeep liberty. *tr
In march i tried to roll up my front passenger window and it made an awful sound and then dropped all the way down. i took it to the dealership and they said the cable broke and it cost me $300! a month later the same thing happened with my back drivers side window and another $300! last night i was pulling into my garage and went to roll up the front drivers side window and wouldn't you know...the same thing happened! 3 windows in 6 months is absolutely ridiculous! jeep needs to recall this and fix it and i need my money back! i have been reading reviews and this is a common problem with jeep liberty's. i guess they used cheap parts and break all the time according to other jeep owners. please have them fix this issue asap! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the front passenger side window opened without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. after diagnosis, the contact was advised that the window regulator failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure and current mileages were approximately 112,000. updated 3/14/13 *cn updated 04/22/2013 *js
January 8, 2013 good morning. it was very annoying when my passenger's front window dropped inside the door. it was and wasn't okay when the problem first arose. i was very concerned. i immediately took it to my dad to see what he knew about it or could do. he went to the pick and pull junkyard and got a plastic replacement window to hold me over until i could get if fixed, which i did about 3 weeks after the problem occurred. the problem occurred on january 8, 2013 and i got it fixed on january 29th, only for the opposite front drivers window to do the exact same thing two days after i got it out the shop. well this time, my dad placed a 2 by 4 to hold it in place. and now only about 2 months later march 28, 2013 my back passenger window has suffered the same faith. back on february 5, 2013 i took my car into the chrysler dealer because they contacted me about a recall, and at this time i explained my incident to them; they stated they had maybe a few concerns about the window regulator, but that it wasn't enough to raise an eyebrow about. i understand why that would not be an eyebrow raiser. in less than 3 months, i have had 3 of my car window to just drop inside the door of my vehicle and the dealer doesn't think that this is call for a recall, or send out notices to jeep dealer and work on the responses received to then determine if this is a major issue or not? very costly, and inconvenient especially when the incidents occur at different times. i would like to get some feed back, answers, shares on this matter, anybody? i have also been browsing the internet to find out if anyone else has experienced what i have, to see what their outcome was. stressed out consumer... *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the rear window defroster detached from the window. also, the contact mentioned that after the brakes were repaired on the vehicle, smoke appeared from the driver side tires. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with rear window defroster wire failure. the vehicle was repaired, however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000. updated 7/23/15*cn updated 11/9/15*js
The first incident, i got into my car and the front passenger window was down. i tried to let it back up without success. i took it to the shop and had it replaced. a week later that i was driving, and started to hear air around me, and noticed my front drivers window was slowing dropping into the door. i had that fixed and a few months later it dropped again. i had it fixed by means of having a 2 by 4 placed under the window because i could not afford a shop. now, back here at the end of october, my back passenger window has dropped in and i now have it boarded up. *tr
Joining in the large numbers of jeep liberty owners, i purchased this vehicle january 2012 with approx. 86000 miles. the driver's side passenger window was already inoperable during negotiations and dealer repaired. within months, the driver's window failed with the same problem, which has been a thorn in the side of many who own(ed) this model - weak plastic part involved in the window motor, causing the glass to fall into the door and difficult, costly repairs. chrysler has not been made to help the consumer in the history of this wide-spread issue. please consider action? the cost to repair each window is not inexpensive. *tr
The window regulator has failed in the window. this is a well known problem. just sitting at a light and the window falls down because of a small plastic piece that holds the window up breaks. *tr
Rear driver side window slipped down inside the door. unable to secure the vehicle. on 07/01/2012 front driver side window slipped down inside the door. again, vehicle was parked and unsecured. these parts are expensive in addition to the labor cost to have the repairs made. inability to secure the vehicle is a safety issue and weather conditions could cause additional damage to the vehicle. note - during the first few months i owned the vehicle in 2004, the driver side window regulator motor failed and was replaced by the dealership. *js
June 13, 2013, third window regulator to fail within one year on my jeep liberty. failed window regulators are front left and right windows, and left rear window. very frustrated and disappointed with chrysler and how they are handling a known issue. after speaking with several employees and manager at the chrysler dealership. they have told me that chrysler is aware of the defect but they are unable to repair the failed window regulators at no cost to me. therefore i continue to drive my jeep liberty without any working windows which presents a safety issue in the event of an accident. i have no way of getting out of my vehicle and it's an inconvenience to pull up to drive thru without being able to roll down my windows. chrysler, i'm sure you have heard this complaint many times. i would greatly appreciate if you would take care of your customer base and do a recall on these window regulators. thank you. *tr
When trying to roll down front driver window, it made noise and cable worm came up in between glass and door jam, flapping on inside of window. window still worked but the cable wire would come loose sometimes and window would either not roll all the way down, or not roll down at all and other times would roll down just fine. i rolled the window down the other day and the cable wire came flapping up while the window glass is stuck inside the door. had to pry window out of door and tape shut. window motor still makes sound but no longer operates window. *tr
On 01/02/12 my passenger front window fell down and would not roll back up. now, since that time, on 03/16/12 my driver's side window has fell down too and will not roll up. within, two months both of my windows have failed. there is some kind of malfunction going on here. does this mean in four more months, that all of my windows will fail? something should be done about this, because obviously this is a problem that not just i am having. there are a lot of others having this same problem with their jeep. updated 04/02/12 *bf
In december, 2011, the front driver's side window of my jeep liberty fell suddenly while i was driving the vehicle. the sudden and unexpected occurrence nearly caused me to lose control of the car. i felt fortunate that i was driving when this happened and not one of my children. had i been an inexperienced driver, the sudden shock of this occurrence would have caused me to lose control of the car. i taped the window up and continued to drive it. two weeks later, the rear window on the driver's side suddenly and unexpectedly fell. at that time, my dog nearly fell out of the car. in the spring of 2012, after driving around with taped up windows for four months, i took the car to a jeep dealer. the repair cost me $850.00. this past spring, the same thing happened with the window on the right passenger side. i have been driving with door stoppers shoved into the window to hold it up. hope i don't have to worry about a grandchild falling out! i have been researching this issue on the internet and there are thousands of complaints about this very issue! the problem appears to be a cheap plastic part in the window mechanism. many jeep liberty owners are saying it is not worth fixing their windows anymore, because they fix them and then the windows just fall again and again and again. why is this not seen as a safety issue? i work in the public health sector and this is most definitely a safety issue! *tr
Jeep window regulators are defective. the driver's window made a loud noise and fell into the door. estimated repair at the chrysler dealership was $300 - $400 for a small plastic piece. within six months, the remaining three windows regulators have failed and all windows are now held in place with a plastic zip tie due to the high cost of repair/replacement and chrysler's refusal to accept responsibility for faulty design or below standard equipment. being unable to open the vehicle's windows is definitely a safety hazard for several reasons. certainly do not want to be pulled over and not comply with an officer's request to roll the window down - and if you open the door instead of rolling the window down - that will be perceived as a threat to the officer and only lead to a bad situation. there are so many jeep owners with the same complaint, please investigate this matter for the safety of all drivers since chrysler is ignoring their responsibility. *tr
Rear driver's side window fell into door. could not get it back up. window is now held in by zip ties. 6/23/2012 front passenger power door lock stopped working. purchased vehicle used in june 2007, rear passenger power door lock not working at that time. occaisionally vehicle will stall and restart while driving. *tt
While driving on the highway at approximately 65 mph the passenger side front window fell into the door. the window regulator was what went wrong. did alot of looking on the internet regarding this and found that it is a common problem with jeeps. i did not know how common until driving in 20 degree weather last week and the drivers side rear window did the same thing. i have contacted chrysler about this and was informed that it is not covered under any recall. so i now have two windows braced in the up position with 2x4's and a total loss of respect for a company that i have supported by owning their products for well over 20 years. *tr
Power window regulator fails causing window to unexpectedly fall into the door panel. front and rear windows failed within 3 months of each other. multiple complaints filed on this vehicle for the same issue. *tr
Power window regulator failure. this is the fourth time in 2 years. this is a major problem that is very expensive to fix. the regulator fails when the car is not even in motion. the window will fail to roll up or down when the regulator fails and it makes a grinding sound when you try to roll the window up or down. this is obviously a huge problem judging by how many complaints are listed on this website. jeep needs to recall the power window regulators in these vehicles and take care of their customers. who has three hundred dollars to fix an ongoing problem two times or more a year. i am a very upset customer and i think something needs to be done about this problem. *kb
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated that as he drove over a road bump at 35 mph, both rear windows fell into the door panel and fractured. the dealer was notified of the failure who advised that each window regulator would need replacing at a cost of $400 per window. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure who offered no assistance. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 110,000.
The window regulator for the rear driver's side window has failed, leading to the window unable to roll up and loss of window control that leads the window to fall inside the door and glass to shatter. *tr
I have a 2004 jeep liberty in which 3 of the window regulators have went out. the reason this is an issue is driving down the freeway my driver window regulator quit working, the window fell down into the door. i almost wrecked because of the distraction and sound of my window falling. *tr
Re: failure of passenger side power window (1) while driving to work, i attempted to roll down the passenger side door window and the window just fell down inside the door. at that point, i was unable to roll up the window. (2) the window could not be operated by the power switch and therefore, i had to remove the door panel and secure the glass with a piece of wood. (3) the failure has not been corrected at this time. while researching this problem - i have found that this is a reoccurring problem across the country with jeep liberty's and i feel that this is a great safety problem. the glass in the window is for protection and should it fall out while driving at a normal rate of speed - this could potentially cause damage to the driver, passengers or other cars on the highway. i feel like chrysler corperation should bear the costs to correct this problem and not leave it up to the owners to correct this defect in the liberty. there are pages and pages online with liberty owners who have had this same problem. just entering (jeep liberty window problems) will take you to numerous complaints about this issue. it is disheartening to still be paying on a vehicle that is like new but is falling apart. i was already involved in an accident in which the faulty ball joints just gave way. thankfully, i was not on the interstate when this happened. now this failure of the window is another recall i would like to see happen. it would be appreciated if you would make chrysler corporation stand behind their products. the jeep liberty is not a cheap vehicle to buy but it is certainly cheaply made and it is sad to wonder what is going to happen next while driving this vehicle. *tt
Jeep liberty 2004. the window regulator of the rear driver's side window has now broken three times in the last four years. i have used that window less than ten times during the ownership of the vehicle. the window regulator will simply break without warning, causing the window to fall. this is a danger to the unsuspecting driver and any potential passengers; not to mention if this occurred in the cold of winter. this is a defective product with this occurrence happening to thousands of other individuals. the car cannot be properly secured as the window will not stay in the upright position and will open completely on its own. it is a safety hazard as you cannot have a child in the rear of the car. this part needs to be recalled. *tr
I have a 2004 jeep liberty. on june 7, 2011 the passenger rear window just fell down inside the door. our extended warranty doesn't cover replacing window regulators. that cost $300 to repair. then, on june 27, 2011 the passenger front window just fell down inside the door. it is in the repair shop and it will cost another $300 to be repaired. the driver side window regulator is also about to break. when i put the window down the whole inside door panel expands and the repair shop said it's about to break. i think its a big safety hazard if my windows just fall down inside the door especially when i'm driving and have small children in the car and weather conditions. also, when the window falls inside the door it makes a loud noise which is a distraction from the driver. there needs to be a recall because my repair guy said that these regulators have to be replaced quite often at $300 a pop!!! i am not a satisfied customer what so ever. *tr
Window regulators have been repaired 9 times on my vehicle. please contact mack massey jepp in el paso and bill luke jeep in phoenix for details. this has been ongoing thing since 2008. *tr
The rear drivers side window regulator needs replacement as it is defective. the extended warranty nor the dealership will cover this very common defect which will cost me $450. *tr
2004 jeep liberty ~ the passenger side window regulator failed and the windows dropped. window had to be taped to the door frame until we could get it to the dealership. jeep is aware of this problem but fails to do anything about it. *tr
While driving down the highway, the rear driver-side window began to open of its own accord. trying to stop the window from lowering further using the control button on the console did nothing but make a terrible grinding noise inside the door. within five miles of driving, the window glass had disappeared into the door panel. this has happened twice now. the first time was a year ago, mid-april 2010, also while driving on the highway. this year it happened to the same window again, mid-april 2011, which means the replacement parts failed, too. the wind in the car was awful, not to mention the cold! it certainly made for a noisy, freezing, and uncomfortable drive. when i arrived at my destination, i had absolutely no way to close up my car, since the window glass had disappeared into the door. i was very afraid someone would steal my car. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated that both windows on the drivers side fell down into the door panel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the regulator lift plates failed. the dealer replaced the front regulator lift plate, but the rear window was not repaired. the manufacturer informed the contact that the failure was not covered under warranty or recall. the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 68,000.
Normal use of the vehicle. normal use of the power windows. no bumps, accidents, rough driving, inclement conditions, rough terrain, unusual external force applied or anything that would constitute replacing the third power window regulator in approximately 2.5 years. i've fortunately only had to replace the right side of the vehicle's window regulators. both the front and the rear have gone out, the rear twice in the past 2.5 years. jeep has apparently only acknowledged the issue because of the part number revision of the part 6 times since 2004. it would be great to have this problem fixed once and for all and to have all the regulators replace by an authorized dealer with a part that can be guaranteed for the life of the vehicle. i don't want money since this hasn't cause and personal or property damage but i would not like to pay hundreds of dollars every 6-9 months to replace a part that technically should last 5 times as long as it does. *tr
My spouse was driving on the highway when the left window fell into the door of our 2004 jeep liberty. on further research i became surprised to find hundreds of complaints about the same problem. the costs for repair are nuts and unwarranted because of poor design by chrysler. how is it that the ones to pay for all the mistakes created by manufactures ends up being the consumer. we have done enough for the big corporations it is time to do something for the people. i'm going to recommend to all that i know not to purchase chrysler products. *tr
I rolled down my passenger window and when i went to roll it back up it would not roll back up. it just kept sliding down. i had to buy a suction cup to keep it up until i could get the part to fix it. since then it has happened to my rear passenger and rear driver windows also. *tr
I am a 2004 jeep liberty owner. while driving my vehicle, i attempted to lower my passenger window on a clear sunny day. my passenger side window made a loud pop and then my window fell down. it would not go back up. i finally pulled over and tugged it up in to position and got it to close. it now will not raise or close properly. i called the dealership service department and they tell me it is the window regulator has failed. this sudden collapse of the window caused me to look immediately right to see what i thought was something hitting my vehicle. then the surprise of my window dropping while driving in traffic. this could have caused me to make a sudden driving error causing an accident as it scared me when it happened. it was a very loud pop sound ! i called the dealership service department and i was told it would be about $500.00 to fix. after researching this on the web, i see i am one of thousands with defective windows that drop for no reason in these doors of the jeep liberty. some 6-7 times. we as consumers deserve better from chrysler. if you check the service records for this problem it should stand out like a sore thumb. we desperately need a recall of for this part of the vehicle that the dealerships are willing to replace while under warranty and acknowledge there is a problem and replace the defective ones but once the warranty expires then we are on our own. the problem is in the design itself. the window regulator is causing problems that are a safety concern and hazard. please investigate this issue with the jeep liberty. customer service is no help. they tell me to pay the repair expense (caused by the manufacturer's cheaply made product) then send in my receipt and it may get reviewed. this is a safety issue. there are too many that are having to be replaced. this is a problem. i urge someone to launch an investigation into this. this is not jeep quality that i thought i was purchasing when i paid the huge amount for this vehicle brand new. *tr
Passenger side, back window is stuck in the down position on my 2004 jeep liberty. *tr
I'm working in a big city and park my car all day in a open parking lot. the left rear window of my car was open, not sure if it was open all day.. for right now im duck taping that window from the inside, nothing has been done yet waiting to order and have it fixed, part alone will cost at least $ 150.00 and then repair cost????? *tr
2004 jeep liberty, rear driver side electric window drops down into door, jams door lock, runs down battery-all due to a tiny plastic part breaking repeatedly. i paid to have this fixed in 10/15/08 ($205),read on internet all jeep owners all models with electric windows having same problem. so, did not use window or door ever since. same clip broke and was replaced under warranty 9/18/09. still don't use door or window. same clip broke again 10/25/10. no longer under warranty so dealer won't repair. called jeep corporate. they refuse to even consider working with me or explaining what they will do until i get "an official diagnosis" from a jeep dealer which will cost me $94.50 to get. only then will they even talk to me about this problem. everyone is having this problem.a tiny plastic clip into which the fuzzy cable connects gets worn over time and breaks. no rocket science there, take a thin piece of plastic and put metal against it and even if not used will vibrate if you drive the car and it will break. costing jeep owners big time.first time it stranded my daughter in the middle of the night, jamming the door and running down the battery as electric window kept trying to engage. now it is sitting in my yard, cannot secure my car as windows is down inside door, and have plastic over window to keep out the rain. this is ridiculous. case # now with jeep is [xxx],case manager casey, 1-800-763-8422 but like i said, until i'm willing to pay $94.50 for "official diagnosis" of a broken ten cent part, they won't tell me if they will work with me at all or to what extent. only that without the diagnosis, nothing can be done further. first time it broke, sitting in driveway. second time i pulled up in parking lot and exited front door when window in rear door crashed down inside, i hadn't even touched the door. this time broke in parking lot, no one in car. window just falls down into door. costing jeep owners big time, you have to change entire window regulator, jeep won't sell clip. *tr
2004 jeep liberty. plastic bracket on window regulator breaks. have replaced both front and back door regulators. from internet postings - appears i am one of several thousands with this problem. chrysler dealerships want to replace entire piece along with window. $500 repair over $4 plastic bracket. *tr
My 2004 jeep liberty continues to have problems with the door regulator. this is the fourth time it has happened and chrysler will not recall the defective part. the glass on the door will slide down, and the window will not operate. this has happened twice on the highway and it is very dangerous. the repair cost is approx $500 each time this has happened. it keeps happening to the windows that i have even gotten repaired already. the dealer stated that it was a defective part, they changed the part and now they are going back to the original as that one was no better. so even though i am getting the windows repaired, it continues to happen to all three of the windows. there is only one that it hasn't happen to. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the front passenger window regulator failed and the window dropped inside the door. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the regulator needed to be replaced. the contact called the manufacturer who stated that someone would call him back; he was currently awaiting the call. the current and failure mileages were approximately 47,000.
2004 jeep liberty in good repair, drivers side window fell into the door and could not be raised. motor makes a grinding sound. there was no crash, the window worked the day prior. *tr
Within months i have had all four of my window regulators break in my vehicle and all four windows fell completely into door. two of the times i was driving down the road when window fell. very expensive to repair already repaired one, now all four broke. cannot get window to go back up. my extended warranty which i paid alot of money for does not cover these expensive parts. how many complaints does it take before making this a recall. *tr
My 2004 jeep liberty had all 4 window regulators snap within a week of each other. the windows fall into the door, and i am worried about theft. *tr
Was driving down the interstate and noticed the back window came down about 4 inches. tried to raise the window using the power button and heard a loud pop. tried again and heard another pop. the window does not roll up. i can raise it by hand but it does not stay up. *tr
I have owned my 2004 jeep liberty for since november of 2003. since that time i have replaced the rear window regulators 6 times. now that my extended service contract is running out, i contact jeep and was told that they would consider helping me on an incident by incident basis. i don't understand why this isn't a manufacturing problem and should not be addressed by the company. i have $600 invested in this problem and don't feel that i should have to invest more of my hard earned money for a manufacturing defect. *tr
Left rear window regulator keeps breaking. has been replaced twice. now the driver's window is starting the same thing. very costly. chrysler dealer won't help with the cost. *tr
