Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2003 Jeep Liberty

Vehicle will not move in any direction except reverse. we drove to a store and when reversing out of parking spot, the vehicle seized in reverse and wouldn't shift to drive initially. we managed to drive home and pulled into driveway. when we went into reverse to adjust vehicle position, it wouldn't move when we shifted to drive. we had to drive car in reverse around our loop in order to park car. we just had to have car towed to repair shop and are now waiting to find out cost to repair. i am reading about numerous complaints over the course of years with no recalls established or offers of repair. this is unacceptable for a company to be aware of an ongoing issue and not extend repair solutions.

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 jeep liberty. the contact stated that the vehicle shook while driving. the contact replaced the front passenger side tire and hubs; however, the engine still felt as if it would fall out of the vehicle while driving. the vehicle was taken to demontrond chrysler dodge jeep ram (888 i-45, conroe, tx 77304) where it was diagnosed that the driveshaft. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 190,000. *tt vehicle was repaired.*jb

When decelerating through 30 mph, clump sound and slight jerk. accelerates through 30 mph smoothly.

Takata recall i am steadily burning through front drive shaft assemblies where it goes into the transfer case. the bearing head keeps failing by throwing the bearings through the assembly, i have owed the vehicle for 2 years and have replaced it twice with the same parts failing. the part seems to just go with no warning and when the assembly comes apart it would leave the front shaft spinning since the jeep has full time locked hubs which could cause it to go through the floorboard or send bullet type projectiles through the assembly metal which could damage other components

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 jeep liberty. the contact had not experienced a failure until after the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 15v673000 (air bags). a day after the repair, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was able to be restarted and was driven to the contact's residence and parked. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the speed sensor was replaced, but the failure continued. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the differential needed to be replaced. an independent mechanic took pictures of the differential and the contact took the part back to the dealer. the contact was waiting for a response from the manufacturer to determine a repair solution. the failure mileage was not available.

Takata recall i am on my second rear gear in my freedom edition with the limited slip differential. they seem to start whinnying around120,000 miles the differential bearings start to abnormality wear causing the ring and pinion to wear prematurely which cause the gearing to slip wearing the teeth it's a very costly fix at 1,000 just for that type of special rear end the danger of it is the teeth could permanently slip on take off causing the flowing vehicle to rear you which could allow another serious problem of the libertys not having proper rear protection on low speed impact which could cause fire

While i was driving westbound on washington avenue approaching main street the transmission began slipping. upon closer examination i discovered the transmission fluid was leaking along the fresh fallen snow behind me. *tr

My vehicle has a recall on the air bags and the vehicle can not be corrected. i was told the jeep dealerships do not have the parts to fix it. also, the pcm component of my vehicle needs to be replaced and the chrysler dealership has discontinued the part, an aftermarket part can not be found and none are on back order. my vehicle is still under warranty and the warranty department is sending the pcm to have the part refurbished but will not guarantee the part. my concern is the cars safety is not guaranteed due to the recall on airbags and the pcm is the main computer part for the car, if it can not be guaranteed to be safe and running what are my options? *tt

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 jeep liberty. while driving at various speeds, the speedometer became inoperable and the check engine warning light illuminated intermittently. in addition, the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled as the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the speedometer and rear center differential sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the contact mentioned that the speedometer sensor was replaced six times. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 137,000.

Applied brakes to stop vehicle, put transmission into park, turned key off, removed key, opened driver door, took foot of brake pedal, exited vehicle, started to walk behind vehicle, noticed vehicle drifting towards me, opened driver door, attempted to jump in to apply brakes, tumbled halfway out of vehicle (strained neck and knee), pulled myself in by the steering wheel, applied brake as vehicle hit parked pickup truck, started vehicle, moved back into previous parking space, applied brakes, put transmission into park, turned off key, took foot of brake pedal, vehicle started to drift (again), applied foot brake and emergency brake, vehicle stopped.

After buying the car as jeep liberty renegade 2003 used at about 40,000 miles. the second time i drove the car on the interstate the car started stalling and running very rough. i limped in for about 15 miles to the repair shop and problem was diagnosed as a faulty crank sensor. that was replaced and car ran fine for 4 years. now with 66000 miles the car stall while driving at low speed. restarted and took car in and problem was diagnosed as a faulty crank sensor again, but part had to be ordered and car was running fine. so i decided to drive car while waiting for the part and next day the car would not start. when tow truck arrived car stated fine but had car towed to repair shop. the sensor was replaced but the shop still was having periodic stalling problem. it was finally diagnosed as a faulty cam shaft sensor which was replaced and now the car is running fine. looks like jeep has a problem with the sensors in the jeep renegade model. *tr

I've replaced three front drive shafts on my liberty sport within a years time. this jeep isn't abused and is driven in the correct mode for the road conditions. the belief is that the four wheel drive will not disengage properly but no one seems able to find the root cause of these malfunctions. i basically have no "shift on the fly", and must be stopped with the vehicle in neutral when engaging or disengaging any four wheel drive mode. sometimes it requires many attempts to fully disengage! if unable to disengage the four wheel drive, even full time mode, the front drive shaft comes "unglued" where it connects to the transfer case and basically makes the vehicle unsafe and unable to drive until the front drive shaft is removed, which in turn nullifies the four wheel drive feature. *tr

Vehicle: 2003 liberty ltd with 110,000 miles. upon acceleration from a dead stop, or when coasting then accelerating, or shifting under light-to-neutral throttle, there is a noticeable clunk from the rear differential, similar to a worn universal joints. took it to the dealer and found that the spider gears were extremely worn creating abnormal clearances. the dealer stated that this is a common problem with the 2003 model (others?). this is likely due to a poor design or materials. broken or dislodged spider gears have the potential to seize the rotating assembly and send the vehicle into an uncontrolled skid. parts ordered aftermarket to be installed on a date tbd. *tr

Going 60mph, my engine light flashed then vehicle died. i was stuck on the freeway, after a minute was able to restart (though car shaking badly) and get to the side. it was immediately towed to the mechanic, and they diagnosed a broken valve spring, and said it's an extremely rare occurrence for a vehicle this age. it?s a 2003 jeep liberty with 91000 miles. other than the valve spring, the engine is in great condition. there's concern about replacing it because he feels it could be a factory defect, and there?s another spring valve, so we're deciding whether to replace both, or the whole engine. in researching we've found this seems a common problem with liberty's 2002-2005, and i assume only a small percentage of people are actually writing about it. the mechanics talked to say they've seen it before in the liberty's too. a good site for comments about the liberty's is http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/jeep/liberty/r95082/comments/. also found; 1)replacement parts listed are refurbished, or new. there's no refurbished available, only new. could mean there's a flaw so they wouldn't want to refurbish the old ones, because you would have the same problem, so a new one, with better components are the only ones available. 2)i stated the flaw seems to appear 2002-2005, and when looking at the valve spring 2003 part# vs 2006 part#, 2006 the number changed, which might mean they figured it out, and put the updated part in the 2006 model. it seems to be the intake valve, not exhaust valve with defect, and in the 2003/2006 part numbers the intake# is different, but exhaust# is the same. i called jeeps nat'l customer complaint center, filed complaint, was given the runaround, and was told because my mechanic was not chrysler, they couldn't trust his findings. i was repeatedly told my car was old, yet alot of people reported the same thing; their mechanics say it?s a very rare occurrence that a valve spring breaks, especially with the mileages being reported. *tr

I own a 2003 jeep liberty and have had it for 2 years now and have every problem you can think of. my warranty recently expired 6,000 miles ago. my warranty expired at 75,000 miles and at 78,000 miles my air conditioner broke and had to replace that it cost me $900.00. just yesterday may car would not shift passed second gear, i have an automatic transmission, i noticed it when i was getting on the highway. lately i have been noticing that the transmission seems to be slipping but never could find the problem because my transmission fluid was always fine. so yesterday i went to aamco transmissions and they said it was the tcm so they told me it would cost $440.00 total. so they went to order the part but come to find out no one has it and the place that has all the tcm parts wont ship them till the 24th of september. so here it is september 3rd and i wont have my car fixed for the whole month of september. i don't understand why they wont ship them now. also, they told me that they have been selling out of tcm fast because everyone is always needing them. *tr

2003 jeep liberty (freedom edition) power train control module has failed twice first time - june 2007 it was replaced by the dealer november 2008 it needs to be replaced again. it is not covered by the manufacturers warranty and the warranty on the part was up june 2008. should this have to be replaced twice in a year and a half? *tr

Transmission hesitates / lurches randomly. car stalls out, increasingly frequently despite repairs. when engine cuts out, lose all power steering brakes etc - so far only at low speeds but progressively worse - seems very similar to jeep commander recall at higher speeds. rpm needle goes wild after engine cuts out. can restart and limp a few miles, then need tow - 2x towed in 1 week, 3x towed in 2 months, and 4 trips to shop without results. car currently stuck upstate ny where i was trying to vacation -and chrysler/jeep not so cooperative. there's plenty evidence of stalling problems on internet for 4-5 years - see edmunds. theories: deceleration / rpms below 1000 make engine cut out. solenoid is pulling battery amps =12 and causing havoc in ignition system, short-circuiting sensors. thermal computer module damage. computer scans for diagnostic codes definitely not reliable. by relying only on computer module for diagnosis, dealers are only making the problem worse because they are sending cars back out without fixing root problem, causing more damage. i had wheel sensor found corroded 6/3, crank sensor fail 8/6 and cam sensor failed 8/10. sensors don't fail sequentially nor so fast. something is causing sensors to fail. and while sensors not working they are causing damage of their own...computer, ignition coils (all 6 needed repair in 1 case where burned out). who knows if the spark plugs, fuel pumps, injection cleans, and throttle body cleans work or not. (some say tb cleanout is important if stalls are at lower speeds - less air inflow). battery seemed to have issues too soon - may be related. one case where harness wiring rubbed against rear something causing probs. my speedometer broke after 1 sensor repair. separately (unless water and corrosion are the real culprits) brakes and rotors wearing out - replaced 2x in 40k miles. not right. some blog on that, too. *tr

Parking brake failure while loading my boat nearly cost my son and myself our lives. backed truck and trailer onto ramp to load boat. noticed the truck slipping on the ramp and suddenly rolled off the ramp hitting my boat and my son had to crawl out the door and swim for safety. he is six years old. vehicle was not running with the transmission in gear and the parking brake engaged. *tr

Vehicle transmission shifts erratically and violently. *tr

The transmission on our jeep liberty went about a month and half ago. we brought it to the jeep dealership in lincoln, rhode island and were told it was covered under the 7 year/70,000 mile warranty; however, they also told us we would have to wait for a new transmission, but a rebuilt one would be faster and just as good. they had our vehicle for about a week. we tried to be patient even though it was difficult to not have the use of our vehicle for this amount of time. we got the jeep back and now the transmission has gone again. the vehicle was bucking and smelled like it was on fire. it is my opinion that if he had continued to drive it that day, it would have caught on fire. we called the same dealership, but they were not able to take it right away. when we did drop it off, it sat there before they could look at it. they said it was a faulty part in the transmission and again that we would have to wait three weeks for a new transmission, but the part could be ordered and sent by federal express. we cannot be without this vehicle again for three weeks so we chose the rebuilt transmission. i called today, and they haven't gotten the part and haven't called me back with where it is. i called jeep customer service and they said maybe they could offer "goodwill assistance" with a loaner vehicle, but then said no because it is not covered in our warranty and we are over in mileage, even though our jeep is not 7 years old and does not have 70,000 miles on it. *jb

I have a 2003 jeep liberty, with 36,000 miles. in a span of nine months, my transmission has went out 3 times. i don't haul anything with my jeep, nor do i drive uphill. the jeep service department has chosen to either repair the transmission or use a rebuilt transmission, in spit of my consistent transmission problems. the transmission problems consist of my car not able to go over 30 mph, the rpms shoot up to 6 or 7 and will not come down, and when i try to go faster than 30 the car jerks and smells like something is burning. *nm

I have two issues. the first being that i received the recall notice for the lower ball joints on my 2003 jeep liberty. i contacted the dealer on nov. 16, 2006 and was asked for my name, number, and address. the man told me that the parts were not in stock and had to be ordered which may take 4-5 weeks. he said they would contact me as soon as the part came in. it has been two months and i have yet to be contacted. recalls are supposed to be done in a timely manner. is this "shortage" of parts really the problem or it my local dealer. my second issue is that of the floor shifter. the last two times i drove my jeep, it refused to go into park or 1st gear. i tried pressing harder on the button on the underside of the shifter, turning my vehicle off, and giving it force. the first time i ended up driving to my local mechanic who couldn't get it into park at first either, after giving it some force it went in, however he seemed to ignore the fact that it was a problem with the vehicle and told me to "make sure i press the button in when trying to put it into park." it happened the following day when i was parking in front of my home. i struggled for 15 minutes, then drove around the block and tried again. i went into park although not smoothly. i will be contacting the dealer tomorrow. i was wondering if anyone else had this issue and would it be covered under any warranty. i have had nothing but negative experiences with dealers, therefore i am dreading having to take my jeep and pay for a "defect". please if you have any information on these issues, let me know. thank you for your time. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while approaching a traffic light at 25 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle restarted, the automatic transmission was placed into drive, but the vehicle would not move. the vehicle was shut off and turned back on 4 times, before it was able to move. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who could not duplicate the problem after performing a diagnostic test. the dealer informed the contact that all 4 tires were worn down unevenly and there were pieces of metal showing on the insides of the tires. also, it was determined that the brakes and rear rotors were worn, and needed to be replaced, along with all 4 tires. a nhtsa recall letter, #06v288000 on the vehicle, regarding the suspension: front: control arm: lower ball joint was received. the parts needed to repair the vehicle were not available at the local dealership. the manufacturer confirmed the parts were not available. the contact was placed on a waitlist. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop who suggested that the recall work should be performed prior to getting all the other components replaced.

Received a recall notice on my 2003 jeep liberty on 9/15/2006. recall parts were ordered through carbone in yorkville, ny. to date the parts have not come in from chrysler. carbone keeps telling me i will get a notice next week when the parts come in. *nm

On august 11, 2006 while driving home from work, my jeep liberty began to sway. i proceeded to slow when my rear axle including wheels fell off. no warning, the entire rear axle disassembled. the conditions that night were wet, however there was nothing more than that. i had my vehicle towed to an authorized chrysler mechanic. i inquired to what would cause the rear axle to just fall apart this way. i was informed it was because of the impact? there was no impact which was evident by the condition of my vehicle. my vehicle had to be repaired. the left rear control arm and driveshaft had to be repaired and reinstalled in addition to the rear end asm and left wheel and tire replaced. *jb

My six-year-old climbed into the front seat of my 2003 jeep liberty and without the key or stepping on the brake pedal moved the transmission selector from park to some other gear causing it to roll down a driveway where people were. with great fortune, no one was struck or injured but when the car silently rolled away the results could have been catastrophic. this problem was repeatable. without the key turned forward, the transmission can be moved from park without stepping on the brake. with the key forward, it functions properly. jeep reported no recalls and was willing to fix under warranty. *jb

Vehicle shaking/vibrating/loud hum at 50+ miles per hour and faster. *jb

There is a problem with the front drive shaft have been looking on internet to see if can find part and this looks like it has been a problem since at least 2005 with these vehicles i know mine has a rip in the boot and the front drive shaft has a lot of play in it i don't know if it could lock up and flip the vehicle or not but it really can not be all the safe and also the locks not working properly on them this is also a ongoing problem but mainly the drive shaft. you put it in four wheel drive and it sounds like you are going up a hill on a old wooden roller coaster would best describe it. the vehicle is not taken four wheeling only used when it snows and i have to use it. *tr

Dt: contact states while vehicle is in park i will accelerate. the local service dealer reprogrammed the powertrain control module. however, this did not remedy the problem. *ak

Nhtsa recall campaign 03v460000, after taking the vehicle to the dealer for a recall repairs consumer received a call from the dealer stating that there would be a cost of $3,300, to make repairs on the lower ball joint. dealer contact: richard gordon. *ak vehicle was taken to dealer for lower ball joint recall repairs, however dealer found axle and bearings were frozen and needed to be replaced. dealer did not honor recall and wanted to charge consumer $3,300.00 for repairs. *tt

2003 liberty gear was in park made a loud roaring noise and accelerated. *ts when the vehicle suddenly went out of control, it crashed into a brick wall of a building. *jb

While in four wheel drive the vehicle went out of control when the brakes were applied. manufacturer was contacted, but the cause was undetermined.*ak for approx 1 year there were 16 separate incidents that occurred while vehicle was in 4 wheel drive. at 25-45 mph vehicle spun out of control. driving one direction vehicle spun to the opposite direction. *bf *nm

At approximately 25,000 miles my 2003 jeep liberty renegade's transmission went. i took it too a dealer and they rebuilt it instead of replacing it, i have had nothing but problems and took it back continuous times for them too take care of the problem and they said too just keep doing figure 8's with it too get the fluids to run through properly!! so this obviously didn't work, dah!! and they kept putting me off until they finally said, oh it's been too long now and we can't do anything about it! this company is now out of business and the tranny has not gotten better in fact gotten worse!! it was a default transmission obviously and i'm still having serious issues with it. is there anything that can be justified for me???? *tr

While driving at any speed, the automatic transmission did not shift properly from first to second gear. the dealership inspected the vehicle several times and could not duplicate or correct the problem. *ak the consumer experienced a slippage in the first few hundred miles. there were missing and loose bolts around the transmission. the vehicle displayed a hard knock at times and was poor on gas mileage. *sc *nm *jb

When putting the vehicle into gear it jammed. consumer kept depressing the brakes to get vehicle into gear. the floater and the shift screw were loose, per dealer mechanic. consumer maintained that it was unsafe to drive vehicle. *ak

Vehicle continuously surged forward. consumer had to apply both feet to the brakes in order to stop the vehicle. the dealer was not able to duplicate the problem. *ak the consumer stated that the dealership found the problem in the transmission computer. *tc

Transmission and engine lights came on upon towing a coleman "yuma" pop-up camper. took in to dealer and dealer found that torque converter to be bad along with gear wear. transmission needed to be replaced and gear wear repaired. car has only 8,000 miles on it and it is the first time the car has towed anything. the car should not have had a problem since it is rated with a much higher towing capacity than the coleman "yuma" is. the dealership is trying to tell me that this is an isolated incident of a bad transmission, but upon further investigation with jeep forums on the net, 85% of liberty owners are experiencing problems with their transmission after 8,000 miles! one owner has had his transmission replaced 3 times! the dealership said this was covered under my warranty this time, but that it would not be covered next time. if the transmission is faulty on all of them, i don't want to get stuck with a lemon on a brand new vehicle!*ak

Excessive driveline vibration and noise under load/acceceration. differential. been to dealer twice with no repairs. noise getting progressevly worse. jeep shakes violently above 80 mph.*ak

While driving at any speed automatic transmission shifted from any gear to neutral. dealer on different occasions replaced the computer, and automatic transmission. but problem still persists. *ak

For most of the year i have been having trouble with my jeep libert automatic transmission. i have had several problems with it and the dealer still has not resolved the issue. i am being told that they cannot replicate the problem. i describe the following as the problems. at a full stop while holding down the brake the trans mission will shutter and make a banging noise. the transmission shifting at lower gears is rough. it is not in a like new condition. he transmission makes a grinding noise. the vehicle has stalled 3 times do to the transmission problem. thevehicle has lurched forward at a stop sign/light. if not for holding down the brake the vehicle would hit the car in front of me. the transmission has shuttered as it changes gears while driving. mainly at slow speeds. i consider this to be a safety issue with the vehicle. i believe the transmission will fail and i fear it will cause an accident. i have made every attempt to resolve this with the dealer. the transmission has been reconditioned twice. once on april 5,2004 and the other on may 26, 2004. the vehicle was returned to me but the problems reoccurred after a short time. i have called daimler chrysler customer service line and talked to several reps. i have file numbers 12578676 and 12805501. i have also spoken with service manager david cargail and distric manager bruce shirley. nothing has been done to address the problems that i am seeing. i have included the copies of the receipts from the service calls that are related to the transmission problems. i am missing some of the earlier once from this year and will send them if i locate them. i did take the vehicle in today and david cargail test drove it and refused to give me a receipt that i had taken it in to get it looked at. he said that i should have enough documentation that i needed. *ak

Vehicle had power surges. *ph problem with transmission slipping and windshield freezing. *mr *jb

Ball joint failure three times. emergency brake on five speed never has worked properly. replace engine at 70,000. now the card end joint for the four-wheel drive is not working correctly. my biggest complaint is the ball joint failure for the third time. this issue also causes chain reactions in the tires i have had three sets of tires wear uneven and i wrote the company the first time to complain and got no response. i use my jeep to make my income and do not trust it any more. i do not recommend this vehicle to any one and will not pass it on to any family member. *nm

2003 jeep liberty ltd. car vibrated at speeds of 55mph and above. fox dealer, auburn ny was great, daimler-chrysler was not. changed all 4 tires and 3 wheels which didn't fix. chrysler closed case "within mfg specs...". dealer continued to try to fix at their expense. balanced both driveshafts which were out of balance. still vibrated. moved alignment of spline/differential. didn't fix. finally, daimler-chrysler regional svc mgr offered a swap for a new car, but with me paying mileage over 8k. ny lemon law allows 12k without mileage fee. i initiated lemon law proceedure. the day before arbitration daimler-chrysler legal reps offered same terms i'd have won in arbitration. got rid of liberty at 11900 miles. leased a grand cherokee. the verdict is still under consideration on this car.*ak

The transmission has been repaired, front axle replaced due to vibrations, 5 new tires, radio, etc... this vehicle has been into the dealership numerous times for repairs to the point where the district manager for chrysler has been involved. the vehicle ran a little better for a brief period of time and the transmission continues to shift incorrectly the vibration is back and the district manager (mr. bill keuhrman states "that there is improvement", and i stated that it is funny the words he chose instead of the vehicle is running correctly. the vehicle scares me to drive because of the hesitation during shifting. *nm

While driving on any surface, my 4wd manual transmission 2003 jeep liberty pulls strongly to the right. it easily goes off the edge of the road, creating the need for an off road recovery. dealer rotated the tires, but said that the wheels were aligned properly after an accident, an all wheel alignment was completed but it still pulls severely to the right. to add insult to injury, when applying the brake in the rain or on a wet surface, the tires skid and do not properly slow the vehicle down, so trying to manipulate the vehicle to not skid off the right side of the road into the ditch is difficult without being in at least partial 4wd--and that doesn't even help occasionally. *ak

The transmission is leaking and the car has only 4,000 miles on it. also, the rear wheels are making a loud squeal when driving the car for the first time of the day. dealer said wheel noise is due to a needed rebuild of disc brakes and the manufacturer is aware of the problem. i am on a waiting list to get my brakes fixed. however, the tranny should not be leaking at only 4,000 miles. *jb

Transmission is leaking, brakes squeal when you are backing up. they say it is from dew. it's in the garage at night. the steering is my main concern.it pulls so hard to the right. it's an accident waiting to happen.

Intermittent failure to start leading to complete failure so the 2003 jeep liberty had to be towed to the dealer. after over $500 dollars worth of work to replace the main computer module the jeep started for only 10 days, then the intermittent trouble returned, they replaced the battery, the jeep had no problems now its dead, they have replaced the ignition switch, now the tumbler and new keys, the total is at $300+ and still have a dead jeep. there are 100s of complaints just like this one on the web indicating something is defective!! please help! *tr

Lurch from second to first when slowing to a stop. 2003 jeep liberty auto transmission

Bought the 2003 jeep liberty brand new in may, 2003. now a year and seven months later, we still have squealing brakes. the dealer in wichita has replaced the pads 2 or 3 times, and re-surfaced the pads once or twice. they've now decided that they will need to replace the back brakes, including the roters. these parts have been ordered, and we are waiting to have this work done. additionally, the automatic transmission started downshifting hard from 3rd gear to second gear, and down to first gear. they replaced some parts in the transmission, and this problem appears to be fixed. we'll see! they blamed the rusting brakes to "humidity"...the car now has only 7,200 miles on it, and has been kept inside the garage every night of it's existence. the dealer claims that all the squealing and rusting of the brakes are due to the "humidity" in the air. we live in the exact middle of the us in kansas. there's not a lot of moisture in the air inside of my attached garage. this brake problem has been ongoing from mid 2003 to the present time in december of 2004. the car only has a little over 7000 miles on it...the dealer said that "the problems might go down if we would drive the car more often." we would not recommend a jeep liberty to anyone we like.*ak
