My wife was driving down the road when all of a sudden the driver side headrest deployed hitting her in the back of the head. luckily there was no accident but she had to pull off the road to figure out what had hit her in the head.
Active headrest restraint deployed while driving on the interstate. no rear collision or other accident occurred. dealership indicates the "tabs" broke off and therefore cannot be reset. quoted me $816 to replace the headrest. seems exorbitant. and something that, as a safety component, should be the subject of a recall (voluntary or otherwise) to be fixed.*dt consumer stated vehicle has been repaired.*jb
While driving donw a main road the gas pedal suddenly stopped working and would not engage. i could not get the car to move forward but it was still running. i pulled the vehicle over to stop and turn the car off. turned the vehicle back on to see if the gas pedal would re-engage, i was able to drive 100ft and it happened again. i then "rolled" into an empty lot on the side of the road where smoke was noticed coming out of the hood. i popped the hood but did not open it and called 911. while on the phone with 911, a loud pop was heard under the hood, sparks were seen and the car caught fire.*dt*jb
2015 jeep grand cherokee with 66,500 miles suddenly had service shifter message in conjunction with check engine light. i had trouble shifting car into gear. almost seemed like it was locked up. the message disappeared and went into gear with no more problems for a few days. then the same thing happened again. i called the local dealership to make an appointment. i took my jeep in and nothing showed on the diagnostic test concerning shifter, but they did find problems with the steering system. issue was covered under extended warranty. they re-examined it again and still could t find any issues with the shifter. the dealership had my jeep for 6 days. i picked up my jeep today and after driving about 60-70 miles the message service shifter appeared for about 3 seconds as i was driving and then disappeared. i am extremely irritated about this issue. i intend to contact the dealership tomorrow. i have read many other comments online about this same problem with 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 models. this issue needs to be investigated for recall. this should be covered and fixed per manufacturer.
My complaint is about a danger caused by a u-connect (uc) update notice for my 2015 jeep grand cherokee that, until completed, the jeep's safety features including 911 were unavailable. a programming glitch wouldn't allow an update time to be chosen.the notice continued to block the screen making it unusable. on 10-3-19, an hr into a 5 hr trip, a notice on the screen said: urgent updated needs to be scheduled/completed w/in 24 hours but, in meantime, "essential services" like 911 & bluetooth (& couple others) aren't available. i tried to set a time but the original screen kept popping back up. i could not clear the notice from the screen and it blocked being able to use any of the screen tabs. couldn't even use uc's call-assist button on rearview mirror. in the glove box i found an actual # for uc & called directly. the woman, helen, said there'd been a "glitch" in the program, that i was "out of luck," she was sorry for the inconvenience, that she had other customers traveling & in similar predicament. initially she suggested i pulled off the hwy to attempt a system reset (after which the hazard lights wouldn't shut off until an extra long hold of the hazard button). when the reset didn't work, she advised that when we get to our destination (unless we felt unsafe we should stop our trip then) to be out of the car for at least an hour, to pick an update time w/o any zeros (apparently that was the "glitch") like 11:17. the car had to be locked in a certain pattern to put it in "sleep" mode. the actual keys had to be at least 25 feet away from the vehicle. if this all didn't work we'd have to find a dealer but it did work overnight. so we drove for 4 hours w/o navigation, bluetooth or 911. nor did we have radio access to hear traffic or weather reports along our route. it was very unsettling to be driving in the dark without any of the jeep's computer available.
Refer to fca "star case" s1908000157. unauthorized, unrequested, unsolicited and unwarranted over-the-air update to uconnect system failed, and "bricked the system. safety issues include: - hands-free phone system non-functional. - navigation system no longer available. - emergency service features not available. please note that there are other failings, but are not known to be safety issues, per se. these problems persist at all times, whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion. uncertain what other vehicle systems this affects. there is no geographic location dependency on the issue. vehicle operation is pending further understanding of potential risks, and issue correction by fca. fca customer service (3rd party to fca), claims that there is no over-the-air solution to this update failure. they were unable to reach management level personnel at nearest dealership to generate issue awareness. dealers claim no awareness or knowledge of issue, and are seeking fees for diagnosis and correction of issue. as the outright owner of the vehicle, what can be done to terminate fca from conducting any further unauthorized vehicle software updates? all purchase terms have been legally reviewed, and there is no binding agreement that allows fca or affiliates to conduct any vehicle modifications - including software changes - without owner permission. it has been learned in the last 24 hours, that this issue has become chronic affecting a large number of vehicles. wait times in contacting fca customer service are indicative of the extent of the problem, forcing owners to wait on hold for service up to an hour. vehicle is currently considered non-operable, until further understanding of risks are understood. seeking tsb for issue.
There is a wind noise coming into the car that is extremely loud and distracting when driving on the turnpike which is when it mostly occurs. i took my jeep to the dealership and they said the passenger side of windshield wiper cowling needed to be replaced. the dealer wanted to charge almost $500 to replace. i went to safelite and the representative stated that this is a common issue for jeep. i am not happy about having to take care of this problem out of my own expenses when this is a common issue of jeep.
One day when leaving a barbershop my wife tried to start our jeep and it would not crank. it would turn over, start for a second then turn off. after sitting for a while longer it started up and drove fine. this past sunday we were leaving a gas station to get on the interstate and in the middle of an intersection it shut off. all acceleration stopped and the jeep went into park and left us stuck in the middle of the intersection. once we used the manual park release and got out of the intersection we let it sit for a little bit. my wife got in the driver seat and it started right up. we then drove it to an auto parts store and had the check engine light diagnosed as the neutral safety switch. i spoke with a local dealership and was told that that is 'not a part listed' in their parts catalog. this vehicle shut off and my pregnant wife could have been t-boned in the blink of an eye.
The vehicle hangs in park. it will let you move the shifter but it stays in park. on the dash it shows vehicle in desired gear. there is a box in the rear of the console that you can open and using a key push in a bar and sometimes it will come out of park and let you shift to reverse or drive. it has hung 6-7 times and has cost me $75 each time to have it towed to the dealership. each time they have told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it and they dont check anything. there has to .be something in the shifter or transmission. i have driven jeeps since 1993 and this is the biggest problem i've had. i'm afraid to drive the jeep except locally. i dont know if it resets or whatever when they load it on the tow truck but the man that drives the truck saw exactly what it was doing. i bought this vehicle new and i want it fixed. please take care of my problem.
On pulling into traffic at intersections, occasionally the turbo does not kick in properly. no power for a couple of seconds while rolling slowly into traffic, then the turbo kicks in hard enough to skid the tires. has nearly gotten us run over several times. started after the software recall update, and they have no fix.
I was parked and when i went started my car the air conditioner air felt hot - i quickly realized the air was blowing and stayi g hot, not cooling down. my 2015 jeep grand cherokee only has 39,400 miles and the airconditioner has gone out. i called my redlands ca dealer, they said it is no longer covered under the basic 36,000 mile warranty. it's too soon for a major component like air conditioning to go out!
Since i had the exhaust emissions update done, my jeep has an extremely long lag in acceleration. it takes a good 2-3 seconds after stepping on the throttle, before the car moves forward. i was almost hit head on in traffic on a highway because of the timing of not accelerating properly. this was never an issue before the exhaust update.
Factory wiring harness, and any other harness for towing doesn't operate unless dealer programs to computer..the cost is $135???. factory installed trai.er took up harness should already be activated..no other make of vehicle requires this..why jeeps..?? or our dealerships not informing and using it for a way to make more money? please investigate problem..owners need to be informed of this before purchasing vehicles..thank you.
At a patients home. jeep was parked, approximately 10 minutes went by and one of the people in the home started yelling my vehichle was rolling backwards. the driveway is flat surface. it managed to take out a fence and damage the back end of my jeep. luckily another person in the home was able to run amd jump in it before it hit trees going down a large hill.
Active headrest restraint (ahr) deployed with no accident. can was in my driveway. dealership says part broke inside. replacement north of $1000.
Received a service shifter message while going from park to drive on dash board display recently 3 times. i read online others have experienced this same issue.
Approximately 1:00 pm on 6/9/2019 while driving on highway 5 in northern california the passenger headrest exploded open hitting my daughter in the head and neck who also happens to be 31 weeks pregnant
Service shifter message appears
Driving down the interstate when suddenly the driver's side active head restraint deployed and the headrest shot forward towards the back of my head. luckily, i was seated forward, looking in my mirrors to change lanes so it did not hit my head. taken to the jeep dealership and they stated that the plastic clips inside the headrest seemed to have broken and caused the headrest to deploy unexpectedly.
Msg appearing service shifter, took into shop and stated it could be an electrical wiring but will not know until they break down the shifter. jeep has already had a recall but i've already taken care of that recall on this jeep. reading a lot of people are having the same issue with the service shifter and really should be a recall on this. at this time i have a short to the circuit in the shifter.
Driving down an open road, suddenly the "brake now" warning starts beeping and brakes are automatically applied. this has happened several times with no vehicles, etc in front of the vehicle. happened even after the recall was completed on it for the cruise control system.
Vehicle jumps from d (drive) to i without warning and has to be placed back to drive. vehicle is in motion when this happens, mostly city, but has happened on highway.
Air conditioning messed up so we took it in. was told it is the evaporator coil needs to be replaced. the part is on national back order which sounds to me like this is an issue a lot of jeep owners are dealing with. the air conditioning blows hot air and makes a sound like it is cutting off and then back on. it happens whether we are parked or in motion. we have less than 30,000 miles on our car too so this seems like it's just a problem that is happening with this particular vehicle.
Vehicle keep jumping from reverse to parking, sometimes when i im trying to park.
My 2015 jeep grand cherokee has an expansion valve leak, which is leaking into the vehicle (since fca decided to install the expansion valve in the car behind the dashboard). the leak is a serious health risk and environmental risk. the system also makes a constant humming noise since its low on freon. i had it fully recharged and in a matter of months all of the freon leaked into my car! this is poisonous gas leaking into peoples vehicles!! i called my local dealership and they quoted me upwards of $1,700 to fix the issue, which based on other online postings by jeep grand cherokee owners seems to be a common issue with the car. i have also recently updated the car's uconnect software to the most recent version released, and now my 911 phone option and navigation system no longer works. my understand is that uconnect software was updated to use 4g technology, but my 2015 jeep grand cherokee has 2015 3g technology. i don't understand why fca would punish their loyal customers by pushing this type of upgrade, in the process completely making their customers navigation systems useless. apparently the parts alone are in the $1,000 + range to replace the entire navigation unit. the 911 phone option should at a minimum be a safety requirement, and fca pushing their software upgrade completely disabled this. i called uconnect but they are of no help. i have been a long time jeep owner, purchasing different models over the year, but i don't think i will be able to buy another jeep if fca can't stand behind their product.
Our driveway has a slope. we park facing up the hill and three times the vehicle has rolled backwards while in park and not running. one time, vehicle off, my husband and i were still sitting in it. braking applied and the vehicle stopped easily. twice there was a light coating of snow (not icy) so i could clearly tell that the front tires rolled and did not slide. i didn't think to check all four tread marks. this could be hugely dangerous if i happened to be behind the vehicle when it happens. the vehicle is new to me...purchased as used about 2 months ago.
Nav system stopped working suddenly while car was in motion. displays map showing the car in the wrong location. gives incorrect directions for the (incorrect) location and gives incorrect local speed limit information (because it's giving the speed limit for the wrong location). attached image is of picture taken while we were on i66, and picture shows that the location was clearly not on the highway.
Ive had this car in the shop 4 or 5 times for extreme overheating costed me 4500 so far and never fixed
Navigation system stopped working. incorrect location of car was shown on map. directions were non-sensical because the nav system gave directions and speed advice based on an incorrect location. the car's indicated location on the map sometimes moved while the car was moving, but still did not represent the correct location. sometimes the location would keep changing back one particular incorrect location. attached image shows that while in washington, dc, the nav system was showing that the location of the car was about 10 miles away in ft. belvoir, va. this failure of the nav system was evident in all situations: stationary, moving, city, highway, etc.
After 3.5 years of no problems, our jeep has been back to the dealer service every month since august 2018.currently at service since 1/14/19, 15 business days. in august: pulled into a parking spot and the wipers started, could not turn them off different messages flashed 'no bus', and various other msgs. check engine light was on. took in to dealer the next day. recalls were performed. we felt, our problems had been solved. they were not. september: arrived at my son's school 7:15 a.m. wipers started, chiming started, messages flashed, tire pressure flashed. turned engine off, restarted problem solved. october: on baltimore beltway with my son's carpool in the car, we were in rush hour traffic crawling along... wipers start, chiming, messages flashing 'service electronic throttle control' and others... then car started lurching and lunging somehow got it limping into the dealer... podded it and it threw over 480 codes. in service for 10 days. alternator replaced, did not help. november: arrived home after an 1.5 hour trip, chiming started, messages flashed. but this time as i reversed into driveway, car threw itself into park. december: again driving car pool of young teenagers, exited baltimore beltway, wipers start, chiming, messages, 'service electronic throttle', 'auto park disabled', service shifter, etc. engine revving but we're barely moving. there was nowhere to safely pullover and i have no idea if any of the exterior lights are working. i had to make a lady turn to get out of traffic. we barely made it. this last episode was the last straw. our dealer's service department has been nothing but helpful. they have, with my permission driven the vehicle with diagnostic equipment hooked up, they've put over 600miles on my vehicle, but i don't care because i'd like it fixed. they've tried to replicate for 15+ days w/no success. i do not feel safe in this car.
I have a 2015 jeep grand cherokee limited with about 48k miles and noticed a hissing sound coming when i have the ac on, a few weeks later i noticed that it would cool sometimes and sometimes it would only throw hot air. i took it to get diagnosed and seems it was a ac pressure valve. have read that they have recalled on other jeep cherokee's wondering if this a faulty issue with the grand cherokee as well. sadly , since i will be out $200 for a deductible and unfortunately cannot wait for a recall as i live in texas and i need my ac.
I was stopped at a stoplight. when the light turned green and i accelerated, my vehicle went in reverse. i quickly switched the gear back to "drive," but overcompensated and rear ended the car in front of me. this has happened before. the gear on my jeep is overly sensitive and flips from "drive" to "reverse" to "neutral" without my notice (i.e., if my elbow hits it). this is a big safety issue, as it has resulted in accidents. *tt *cn
Navigation system stopped showing the actual location of the car on the map. this is a safety hazard because i could not navigate to where i needed to go. in addition, it displays the speed limit of the (incorrect) place where it places the car on the map. this could lead the driver to go too fast or too slow for the situation. this incorrect location is displayed whether the vehicle was stationary, in motion, on a city street or on a highway, turning or going straight.
About 10 miles into my trip, on interstate 81 on straight roadway, dry pavement; speed 63 miles per hour; my vehicle began to loose power and my speed was decreasing. i pulled to the side of the road and my vehicle went black. i noticed smoke on the passenger side of car coming from under the hood. within minutes the front of my car was engulfed in flames. vehicle had approx. 16,700 miles on it. unknown cause.
Mysterious engine start. car was parked in the garage for the night. went into the garage at bedtime and found the car running with lights on. could not stop the engine with the stop button with fob in my pocket. opened the garage door to ventilate the exhaust fumes. went to pull a cable off the battery. couldn't find it! turns out it is under the passenger seat. couldn't access it. after multiple tries stopped the engine. obviously a u connect defect. parked it outside to prevent getting gassed. crap technology. ..updated 12/11/17 *bf the consumer stated the vehicle was repaired. *js
The gear shifter is malfunctioning. the lights on it are not lighting up to show what gear i am in and the dash shows "service shifter" sometimes the dash will state n but i will be reversing. i told the dealership about this when i took it in for the current recall on the shifter. this issue is something different. they told me they fixed the problem. the same day it was doing it again.
Jerks very hard whe going less the 20 miles
My jeep shifts rough while increasing speed. it jerks and hesitates when shifting gears. also the gear shifter moves very easily to other gears i.e. n, r, d while driving or even parked.
I shifted my car from drive to park and exited the vehicle parked in a gas station parked lot. as i exited the drivers seat and begun to step away i noticed the jeep was in motion (rolling backwards, towards me just steps away from the vehicle).because the driver side door was open it knocked me down on my face and then rolled over my legs with the front drivers side wheel. the jeep continued to roll until it crashed into a fuel truck parked in the gas station lot where i had parked.
Navigation is inaccurate and thus a safety hazard. navigation system shows car off road or in water and gives incorrect directions. the car is at the dealer for a third time to correct this problem.
Crash mitigation system misreads input. goes off at wrong time or does not respond when needed. system responds irradically.
Vehicle crash avoidance system engages with sudden hard braking and alerts when there is no other vehicle in the vicinity. see "other documentation" for full description of problem.
When starting to drive and the vehicle shirt from first to second there is a major hesitation, also the car has a hard shift when changing gears. while breaking the vehicle lurches forward causing a jerking of passengers, and leaving me feeling like i'm going to run into the back of someone. it's getting to the point where i'm scared to drive this vehicle for fear of getting in an accident and being injured or injuring someone else
My jeep was placed in "park" position by my adult son. i was getting into the back seat and the vehicle rolled in reverse, hitting me with the open door where i was attempting to enter the vehicle, and causing me to have a head injury. i was taken to the hospital via ambulance for a concussion and laceration on the back of my head. i have noticed difficulties since that time getting the vehicle securely into "park." i have to push the handle forward several times to get it to actually go into park.
Tl* the contact owns a 2015 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and all the warning indicators illuminated. the contact started the vehicle again, placed fuel in the vehicle, and drove home. the contact shut off the vehicle and heard an unusual noise. also, a burning odor emanated from the vents and flames appeared around the dashboard. the headliner and carpet were burned. the fire department extinguished the fire. the contact was awaiting an insurance evaluation. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 8,500. ..updated 07/20/17 *bf *cn
We were driving on the highway to maryland for thanksgiving, and while driving on the straight highway 60 miles an hour the sunroof just exploded and shattered, a lot of glass fell on top of our clothes and inside the car. it completely swerved the car but we didn't lose control and stopped at a gas station on one of the rest stops.
I own a 2015 jeep grand cherokee laredo limited, purchased from a dealer new. last week i pulled into my driveway, turned the jeep off and went to get out and my alarm system went off. could not turn it off with either fob, i was even able to start it up and drive. remote start would not work for 3 days. cruise control just turns off when it wants while driving on interstate over 60 mph. gps states i'm off route and freezes in the location where it happened on interstate, normal weather(no overcast/fog). wipers just start working while sitting in the driveway idling, as you're driving...no dust, rain, bugs etc...windshield leaks and rain comes in from behind the rearview mirror/sunglass holder when it rains and you have to take a sharp turn(not with normal turns)...leaks down on cell phone which sits in little cubby to charge. the vehicle surges when going under 20 mph, usually when you are trying to start from a stop is when it' worse. under 25k miles and i am afraid as to what might happen next.
Key fob is designed with large buttons flush with the face of the fob. this vehicle has been unknowingly remote started twice (once in an attached garage) simply by having the fob in my pocket and bending over for something as simple as tying shoes. panic alarm has been activated several times by similar normal actions. these buttons should be recessed to protect from unintentional activation. a running car in a closed attached garage in not a good thing. *tr
I bought my vehicle new from a dealership. it had 3,600 miles on it when i found this problem. the navigation screen cracked spontaneously which make some of the function of the touch screen unusable, heat, defroster, navigation. this is the 8.4an model. chrysler says it is caused by damage and will not cover the repair. i did not damage this unit. i don't know when this crack occurred, you can only see it when the light hits the screen just right and you can not feel the crack even with a fingernail. i only discovered it because suddenly the defroster for the back window would not turn off using the screen. i have called chrysler customer service and they are going to call the dealership and try to come to some sort of resolution.
While stopped at a red light the jeep went into neutral. i pushed it back into drive 3 times but it switches back to neutral on its own. the car then shut completely off and would not restart. had to be towed to dealer. dealer said there is nothing wrong with vehicle. they checked transmission and test drive car.
