I entered my vehicle after it was it was stationary for approximately 10 hours to find the passenger side headrest assembly had deployed on its own without any external collision for force to the headrest assembly
Inadvertent deployment of "active headrest" on driver's seat with no accident. headrest spontaneously burst open. vehicle was stationary and gear shifter was in park in my driveway with the engine running.
Ahr headrest deployed while driving.
I have a acc / fcw unavailable message that deactivates my auto breaking system to prevent a collision. this error message may relate to the orc module that may control other safety devices in the vehicle such as the air bags. this deactivation occurs while the vehicle is in motion city street and on the highway.
I got inside my jeep which was parked in mt garage, in the afternoon to go to work and noticed that the driver side head restraint had deployed, i do not know why, when i had came from work the previous night and got out the jeep it was fine. i looked in the owners manual and it described how to reset it. this did not work, i called the dealer (dayton andrews of saint petersburg, fl.) and they said that it was a know problem and is not covered under the warranty. they want over $800 to replace it,
Yesterday out of nowhere my passenger headrest deployed, i wasn't in an accident i was just parked and the headrest just popped out of place. i call the dealer and they told me is over $600 of repair. i don't understand why i should pay the repair when it is a vehicle malfunction.
On 9/6/19 while traveling at a low rate of speed on a four lane road the driver's side headrest "exploded" propelling the front half of the headrest violently forward. this caused a hard hit to the back of my head that left me stunned. i was unsure of what happened until i was stopped at a light and could see that it had split forcing the front half into my head. if i had been traveling at a higher rate of speed or merging onto the nearby interstate that was my destination, this impact likely would have caused me to have an accident. the hit was so forceful that i am concerned it may have done some damage to my neck, so i may have to seek medical care. once i got home i did a google search and found many reports and lawsuits regarding this defect in the active head restraint headrest on chrysler/ jeep products. i am the original owner of this vehicle and it has never been in an accident. surely this issue merits a recall.
While driving, the drivers side head rest was activated causing the active head restrain to be deployed.
While vehicle was stationary, parked in driveway, passenger seat active headrest failed into an open position. as stated by others, and verified by dealer, plastic retaining clips failed and caused an unnecessary release. this is a severe safety issue that needs to be addressed. the drivers side head rest could fail at any moment, potentially causing an accident that results in serious injury or death.
The active headrest deployed while pulling out of a parking garage for no reason.
I would like to address this issue to jeep about my passenger headrest deploying without any cause while my car was in park for more than 6 hours... after reading more than several threads and concerns from other jeep owners and it also happening to them and the outrageous cost to repair a single headrest including labor is beyond me. i feel cheated out. this repair is almost a 800.00 repair ... why has jeep not made this very repetitive issue a recall? i feel jeep should be responsible for the diag and also the repair for my jeep. i know i am not the only one that has had this issue and has felt the same. i am asking for someone to handle this in a fair manner. being a single parent and not being able to fork money like i am a bank has made this tremendously frustrating.
Active headrest collision system randomly deployed while i was driving. appears to have some kind of retaining mechanism failure as i cannot clip it back in. many others appear to have had this issue as reported across internet forums and still no recall.
Airbag light came on at 106,000 mi. was told it was an issues with the wiring in the head restraint. would need to have head rest replaced for $700. i don't believe there is any reason this should have failed as the car has never been in an accident
The headrest of the drivers seat deployed while i was driving. i was driving on a highway with cruise control and and the vehicle was at a steady speed with no sudden jolts or stops. i heard a very loud pop and the headrest hit me in the back of the head. the incident startled me and caused me to hit my breaks.
The 'service airbag system' display and airbag light comes on and off. i had it repaired but the dealer said it's not covered under the 'safety warranty' . i think it should be.
Jeep grand cherokee overland has never been involved in any accidents was parked in my driveway. it had not been setting for more than 6 hours since last driven. i opened the front passenger side door and the passenger side head rest activated. needless to say this scared the heck out of me, but luckily i was not harmed. upon inspection it looks as though the plastic retainers which hold the unit in somehow broke allowing the headrest to activate.. i am not an engineer, but this is clearly a problem due to faulty engineering or manufacturing. after some time searching on the internet i found tons of other jeep owners who have experienced the same issue. clearly jeep is aware of this issue, but as of yet has been ignoring the problem. if this had happened to the drivers side head rest while i was driving it could have caused a serious or possibly deadly accident
Takata recall while driving my car doing 20 mph in normal driving conditions my passenger side headrest malfunctioned and deployed hitting the passenger in the back of the head. the headrest deployed and exploded with a lot of force. it was a very scary situation. i had no idea that the headrests were capable of that. upon further investigation i saw that the plastic 'clips' that keep the headrest from going off had been completely shattered and broken making the headrest unfixable. when i called the jeep dealership they told me if the 'clips' were broken that the headrest needed to be replaced. i am shocked that a 'safety feature ' malfunctioning is a problem that i need to pay to fix. (about $680 for a replacement plus labor cost) this could have resulted in a serious crash and injuries. this style headrest needs to banned. also other jeep owners need to be aware of this. it's very unsafe and jeep needs to replace the headrest with a completely different safer headrest. i fear now that when i'm driving that the driver side headrest could malfunction and explode at the back of my head resulting in serious injuries. ive talked to other jeep owners with the same style vehicle and none of them were aware of this 'safety feature' with the headrest. and not one single mention in the owners manual about this deploying headrest. people need to be aware!!
The driver headrest airbag randomly deployed without incident . the vehicle was stationary. brought to dealership and was informed this was not covered under 100k warranty. felt this was concerning as potential other headrest airbag may deploy. additionally asked about the leather pulling up off the dashboard but informed this also was not covered.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 10 to 15 mph, the driver's headrest air bag abruptly deployed. there were no injuries. the vehicle was taken to romano chrysler jeep (215 w genesee street, fayatteville, ny 13066, 315-637-3101) where it was diagnosed that the driver's headrest air bag needed to be reset. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that there was no recall for the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
While driving down the highway at roughly 40mph, the drivers seat active headrest deployed and hit me in back of the head, jerking my head forward. after arriving home, i inspected the headrest and noticed that the plastic clips holding the headrest back, broke.
I was driving at about 10 mph and the front passenger headrest deployed hitting my fianc in the the back of his head. it appear the plastic latch broke on the inside of the mechanisms. this is an extreme saftely issue as i swerved due to the extremely loud noise. upon searching on google it appears this is a major issue with the jeep's grand cherokees for those year. this needs to be recalled before someone is injured. if i was on the freeway and it happened to the driver side seat then this could have resulted into a major accident
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 10 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. the vehicle slid and crashed into the passenger side corner panel of a 2009 chevrolet truck. there were no injuries. the air bags did not deploy. there were no warning indicators illuminated. a police report was filed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brakes, sensor, and alternator needed to be replaced. the repairs were completed. the local dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified and opened case number: 33977852. the manufacturer stated that they would not repair the vehicle because it was taken to an independent mechanic. the failure mileage was approximately 39,000. the vin was not available.
I was coming to a gradual stop at a traffic light on a local road when the active head restraint seemingly deployed. i was not in a collision and there was no reason for it to deploy. upon examining the mechanism it was not triggered, rather it failed because the plastic clips that held onto the latch had broken off internally causing the headrest to hit me violently in the back of the head. this could have been far worse had i not been almost at a complete stop.
Head rest drivers side deployed while car parked in garage no movement at all

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the front passenger seat belt failed to retract properly when buckled to secure the passenger. the seat belt was loosely connected when locked into the buckle. the dealer (colonial south chrysler jeep and dodge, 42 state rd, dartmouth, ma 02747, (508) 984-1900) indicated that the vehicle would need to be scheduled for diagnostic testing and repair. the dealer and the manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 14v643000 (seat belts, air bags). the contact was uncertain if the vehicle would be repaired by a dealer. the failure mileage was not available.
Was involved in an accident and my air bags did not deploy, in which i sustained a head injury. the vehicle was in motion on a city street driving forward.

Thursday evening my husband was backing out of our garage at our house. when he got to the street (a residential road) he put the car into drive and that's when the driver's headrest deployed (separated from the plastic piece like an airbag, headrest restraint activation thing) hitting my husband in the back of the head forcefully. he did not hit anything or run over anything while backing out. no other airbag deployed in the car, just that one. he pulled back into the garage and told me what happened. we got on chrysler's mopar website to see if there were any recalls regarding that part. there were no current recalls on our vehicle and we were up-to-date with all the recalls on our vehicle. we contacted chrysler several times and got nowhere with them, but the first representative we talked to did give us a case number. they are basically saying it is out of their hands and in the dealerships. we then contacted the dealership where we purchased and service our jeep. they told us to have it towed there and they will inspect the problem. even if they fix the part or reset the airbag thing, i am still scared to drive my car to and from work and transport my child. *tr
Driver's headrest airbag deployed when we were not in the car, and the car has not been in an accident. chrysler was contacted and did a private investigation which led them to believe that the incident was not due to manufacturing responsibility. this incident happened some time in early april - we noticed it around april 14th. i have contacted them 6 times since then and they refuse to explain why the airbag deployed, or offer assistance in repairing it.
It broke and it hit my wife in the head, need to be repleced and programed to replace it the dealer wants 570.00 dls

The airbag indicator light is on. i took it to adel chrysler dealer to investigate. the said "44846 open in orc module need to replace orc module" i investigated and discovered chrysler recall p67 for 2014 jeep grand cherokees. however, when i contacted chrysler, they said my vin number was not included in the recall. my car has the exact same problem as the recall describes yet it is not included in the recall!! i think it should be included and that chrysler should replace the orc module at no charge. while chrysler did offer to give me the part free, i would still have to pay labor $150. i think it should be done free. so i am filing this complaint. meanwhile my airbags won't deploy until this is fixed. the nhtsa campaign number: 14v643000

Takata, on april 15, 2016 i had a head on collision with a 2004 ford pick up truck on state highway 28 in seneca sc the jeep was totally destroyed and i suffered multiple serious bodily injuries. the airbags did not deploy. if the airbags had deployed it would not have concluded in broken ribs, broken hand, multiple cuts and bruises and the loss of 90 % of my site. even the state trooper said he had never witnessed such a travesty.
I was in an accident in this vehicle and the air bags did not deploy.

Made an appointment for the recall since i got the recall notice. appointment confirmation number #x03qbqoq38 with napleton chrysler in kissimmee, fl. they verified the part was in. showed up for appointment and after two hours, i got an oil change, tire rotation some updates and no safety recall. totally unacceptable that i had to take a day off work for a recall i have been waiting on since october and it did not happen. these recalls are just scams to get the owner to have other work done. i can't believe a national agency is involved with this type of scam. re: p67/nhtsa 14v-643. ...updated 08-06/15 *bf

A teen driver pulled out in front of my wife and she hit her going around 20-25 mph. the whole front of the jeep needed to be repaired to the tune of almost $6,000.00. however, the airbags never deployed. my wife did go to the hospital complaining of lower back pain and a few days later had a sore neck as well. i realize it was a high speed impact, but the with that much damage it seems like the air bags should have went off.
