Problems with 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee ENGINE

On average, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 40 710 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle shifted without warning. additionally, while driving, the vehicle hesitated, stalled, and smoke emerged from the tailpipe. the vehicle was taken to caitilin chrysler dodge jeep ram (140 old york rd, jenkintown, pa 19046), but the dealer could not duplicate the failure after driving the vehicle for 20 miles. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 33,453.

When idling in traffic with foot on brake, the rpm's on the transmission accelerates for unknown reasons until the engine is disengaged and placed into park or netural. this incident has happened five times over the past year - dealership refuses to fix problem.

After entering the freeway, the car autonomously shifted itself into neutral and the engine shut off. this incident has repeated itself dozens of times in various driving situations since june of last year (2014), just after beginning my lease. sometimes, as in this instance, i was able to push the start button and the engine turned back on, even while rolling in neutral at speed. in most instances, the condition happens as slower speeds (<30mph) and i am unable to restart until coast off the roadway, come to a complete stop, depress the brake, shift from neutral into park, and then restart. when this happens in traffic i am helpless as i attempt to coast to safety as speeding cars race around me on both sides. i have brought the car to the dealership(s) at least a half-dozen times. on the very first visit, i saw that the computer diagnostic readout said, "improbable torque conversion". since that first time, i have not seen readouts and they've not been shared. two different dealerships have test-driven the vehicle and claim that they are unable to recreate the malfunction. well, neither am i. it happens randomly and i am unable to deliberately cause it. nonetheless, it happens. a chief concern of mine is the seeming limitation of the service technicians. unless the computer identifies a problem, they seem to be satisfied that there is no problem; they have apparently no ability to consider any other form of diagnostic curiosity. they claim that they've searched and find no other instances of this condition. yet, a cursory google search reveals thousands of similar instances with this make and model. at this point, i only drive the car when there are no other practical options. i do not take my family or passengers in the car. i'm renting cars or ubering more often. i have reached out to chrysler and have filed an issue. no response yet. critical safety issue!

I have a 2014 jeep grand cherokee with the eco diesel option. at 7100 miles after oil change and refill of diesel exhaust fluid indicator on dash displayed incorrect def fluid and service def needed or vehicle will not restart in 200 miles. it took a week and 1 business day before the dealership could even look at the vehicle due to backup in scheduling. after three days at the dealership the vehicle was diagnosis with dpf convertor needed replacement, def sensor failure, def injector failure, and o2 sensor failure. and the parts would take 3 weeks just to get in. to me this is unacceptable, a vehicle with less than 10000 miles should not need this many repairs with long delay just to get parts. it seems this vehicle was not properly engineered and cannot meet emission standards long term. plus a vehicle that will turn off and not restart at 200 miles is a danger to a consumer. just based on an internet search i am not the only one with these problems there are numerous owners of 2014 jeep grand cherokee with eco diesel with the same issues. and the problems are never really resolved , permanently fixed and occur again. in my opinion fca should be made to buy back these vehicle and redesigned to at least meet 80000 miles emission standard with realistic durability. the consumers should not be test subjects on a unreliable vehicle until fca comes up with fixes to very serious problems. in addition some consumers on internet site have be told to ignore engine problem indicator light warning until fca comes up with fixes.

While driving at 80 mph, a very large buck ran in front of the car on the interstate. after driving back by to see the deer the next day it was probably around 300 lbs. the entire front portion of my vehicle was caved in. no airbags deployed whatsoever. hitting something so massive at such a high rate of speed should have deployed some sort of safety mechanism i.e (airbags!!!!!)

Merging vehicle into highway traffic when electronic instrument console went blank, losing power. instrument panel then lit back up and all warning signals (check engine, battery etc.) were illuminated. engine continued running, but very slowly (as if stuck in 1st gear). when able to safely exit the highway and pull off roadway, was unable to shift car out of drive into park. it appeared all the electronic controls were not working. because this car has a push button ignition (and a fob, rather than a key), the push button ignition could not be turned off, because the car was not in park. i had to remain at the wheel with the brake on to prevent the car from moving. i was unsuccessful at contacting jeep technical assistance to try to identify how to cut power to the engine. ultimately, after holding in the ignition button for a prolonged period of time, the power returned and i was able to put car in park. please note, recall notice 13v-483 had been repaired on this vehicle prior to this event.

the problem(s) that i have had or currently have with my vehicle are as follows: 1. july 8, 2015: (mileage 12,453) car dash lights were lighting up and then the engine died later in the middle of the road. finally the car started up however the transmission would not shift and i drove it home in low gear. on july 9, 2015, i took the car into campbell chrysler service department in centralia washington (see service slip) and it was returned to me on july 13, 2015. 2. july 15, 2015: again, the car dash lights were lit up and the car was stuck in low gear. i turned the car into to campbell chrysler service department (see service slip) on july 16, 2015. the car was returned to me on august 18, 2015. 3. august 24, 2015: again the car dash lights were lit up and the car stuck in low gear and the motor was surging. i took the car back to campbell chrysler service department on august 25, 2015. the car was returned on august 28, 2015. 4. august 31, 2015: i drove to seattle and again the check engine light came on and the shifter lights would flash and speedometer numbers would go from large font to small font. when dash lights and warning lights plus different characters flashed then the engine would surge. currently, the car was brought back to campbell chrysler service department on september 16, 2015 because all the warning lights came on, again. this vehicle has become a safety hazard for my family. im not comfortable driving the car and concerned for my safety as well as my families. the first time the car stalled on me it happened at a stop sign on a two way highway. the engine surging is also a safety issue. i have been with-out my car over 43 plus days and have been greatly inconvenienced.

During a drive up a mountain grade in southern california and towing a recreational boat on 7-4-15, our 2014 jeep grand cherokee with the 3.0l ecodiesel engine overheated (i.e. coolant) and the oil temperature reach over 300 degrees. these conditions caused the vehicle to go into a very slow driving condition (i.e. 5mph) on a two (2) lane highway causing a traffic jam behind us and a dangerous situation since turnout lanes were infrequent. when opening the hood, it appeared that the coolant had sprayed out of the reservoir through the cap and onto the engine. we attempted to cool the engine down over a two (2) hour period and added over 1.5 gallons of a water/coolant mixture however, the vehicle still overheated and had the engine oil reach over 300 degrees until we could park it for several more hours. the vehicle is rated to tow 7200lbs. with the factory installed towing package however, jeep curiously did not install a towing feature on the model to help with shifting, etc. the boat and trailer weighs less than 3450lbs. this is an unsafe condition and i am afraid that the issue has damaged the engine. the jeep/chrysler assistance line would only tow the vehicle but not our boat and was no help to us so we were left on our own during our 4th of july vacation. jeep needs to provide a towing feature, install a heavy duty additional oil cooler and additional engine cooling provisions for the jeep grand cherokees with the 3.0l ecodiesel and factory towing package from a safety and equipment reliability/longevity perspective. please assist us. thank you.

Enter vehicle and placed it in the run position, i heard a ding from the console and noticed that the engine malfunction light had illuminated. i then drove the vehicle for about 15 minutes however the light stayed illuminated. the dealers' service advisor states that it will be two weeks before the service department can service the vehicle. he advised that i continue to drive the vehicle, as i normally would, with the serve malfunction light illuminated???? that makes no sense.

My daughter was parking her 2014 jeep grand cherokee outside of a retail store. as she slowed and pulled into a parking space, the jeep suddenly surged forward, jumping the curb, crossing a sidewalk, going through a small grass median, and into a different area of the parking lot. the police report, oklahoma city police department report, case number 15-redacted, accurately records the surge. the officers conclusion was driver error. through research i have found numerous similar complaints concerning 2014 jeep grand cherokees. i called the service manager for the jeep dealership where we purchased the vehicle. i told him about the accident and that when the jeep came in for repair, i wanted the accident data preserved. he told me the only data that he could obtain was jeeps proprietary information, which i could not have. a representative form my insurance company is adamant that we, as the owners of the jeep, have a right to any information captured by the jeeps systems. however, the insurance company had no way to obtain that information when they appraised the damage to the jeep. i need help in obtaining the data by someone outside of jeep who can access it, or help to compel jeep to provide me with the information, hence this online submission. the website which contains other complaints about 2014 jeep grand cherokees is http://www.carcomplaints.com/jeep/grand_cherokee/2014/engine/vehicle_speed_control-2.shtml. 2014 jeep grand cherokee vehicle speed control problems | page 2 the website concern jeep grand cherokees or all years having trouble when the tires/brakes get wet is jumpin' jeeps are hard to tie down

Driver proceeded from a from a 4-way stop to the posted speed limit of 55 mph. shortly after getting up to speed, the vehicle's dashboard illuminated with several warning indicators (service electronic throttle control, service airbag system, low oil pressure, low voltage) and lost all engine power. vehicle coasted to a stop in a nearby parking lot. driver was attempted to restart the vehicle several times, but unsuccessful. vehicle has been towed to the dealership awaiting service.

My 2014 jeep grand cherokee has been at beaver county dodge chrysler jeep since 5/5/2015. it was taken in for stalling issue, odometer adding excess miles, touch screen radio going black, seat belts that do not tighten and other various recalls. my jeep has not left their parking lot since 5/8/2015 i called today 5/22/2015 and it is still not finished they stated. i have paid an entire month on my lease and i have not driven my vehicle. the service department has not made one attempt to fix my jeep and i am not sure when i will ever get it back at this point. the dealership and fca have been giving me the run around since august 2014 about fixing these problems that they state simply cannot be fixed at this time? i have been having these problems for 9 months now and the dealership and fca keep telling me that they have no resolution to my problems.

Transmission electronic shift lever. in april 2015 my vehicle rolled into a parking lot guardrail, after i thought the shift lever was in park. the left front fender was damaged and had to be replaced. i filed a reimbursement claim with fca on 05-27-16 and was recently denied.

Drove one block from home and the battery voltage spiked to 17v. warning sounds and messages posted on the odometer. parking assist off; acc unavailable-service required; wipers activated even though turned off; transmission locked in d; radio screen blacked out/came back on; message read to stop, press the brake, turn engine off then place in park. red battery icon, anti skid icon, engine icon lit on odometer plus warning sounds non stop. took directly to the dealer where the tech tried to get a reading on all of the trouble icons. nothing was posting on their equipment. it was decided the vehicle may need the alternator replaced. was told to continue driving and if this happens again to turn the engine off and restart the vehicle and keep driving. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was restarted. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the transmission software was upgraded but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 18,388.

After making a right hand turn at a four way stop, i began traveling through a residential area at about 25 mph. after maybe 100 yards, the car came to a stop and the engine was revving, as if the vehicle were in neutral. the shift knob indicated the vehicle was in drive, but it was no moving forward. obviously this caught me completely off guard, as someone at the four way had waved me to go before them, the i unexpectedly stopped in the middle of the road and would not move. i began applying the gas more gently, good thing or i would have jumped forward, and eventually the vehicle began to drive again. the low number of miles on the car is because i am scared to drive the car until the two brake recalls are completed, and now this. i see this has been a big concern in other years for the jeep and have found many similar complaints online for this model. when will this issue be addressed? big safety hazard! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle lost power without warning and failed to shift out of gear. also, the windshield wipers activated without warning. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (gator chrysler dodge jeep, 840 s harbor city, melbourne, fl 32901) where it was diagnosed that the valve needed to be replaced and the system reset. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. while driving, the vehicle was stuck in gear and made an abnormal grinding noise. the vehicle was taken to simmons rockwell dodge chrysler jeep (7329 hammonsport rd, bath, ny 14810) where it was diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. again, the vehicle failed to shift out of gear and the interior lights blinked. the vehicle was taken to vero beach chrysler jeep dodge (855 s us highway 1, vero beach, fl 32962). the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and opened case number: 32752611 with heather at 844-378-0573, ext 89379. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 62,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that fumes emitted inside the vehicle from the engine compartment. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 19,300.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and failed to switch gears. the engine restarted after numerous attempts. the check engine and service transmission warning indicator illuminated. the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the pcm and tcm needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. however, the failure persisted. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 7,800.

Upon starting car blue/gray smoke comes out of exhaust. smoke billows for 30-40 seconds. recurring issue specifically when car is parked on incline in driveway. been told by dealer there is no recall but it is a common problem.

January 2nd. 2015 i pull out of the fashion square mall and turn on to rio road into the right lane. this is the turn lane on to route 29 north. i travel about 50 yds. the reporting officer said my vehicle was traveling about 40 miles an hour when i rear ended a truck i felt the impact and heard the crunching metal and i vaguely remember seeing the top my hood being shove back. i was stunned i knew i was hurt and i was having trouble breathing. someone call 911 and the medics loaded me into the ambulance. i could hear what they were saying but had trouble focusing. the police, and fireman where discussing why the air bags had not deployed for the amount damage done i also remember the medics asking why the airs bags had not deployed. *tr

Event occurred december 22, 2014. after multiple monthly check engine lights and "replace" of the computer, the vehicle information center gave a warning of "incorrect def detected." (only mopar def had been used). within 10 miles the vic warning stated "vehicle will not restart in 200 miles." return to the dealer again after the previous visit 3 days prior to "reflash" the computer indicated a recent tsb for replacement of the catalytic converter. i also had them check the def pump and nozzle which was clogged with crystallized def. after two weeks of waiting with them not able to find a catalytic converter and new oxygen sensor i was forced to trade the vehicle at a loss. (chrysler would not offer any help on the trade). update 9/15/15*cw on june 7, 2014 the traction control light illuminated, the steering sensor shorted out. on august 12, 2014, the check engine light illuminated and the pcm software was updated. on august 14, 2015, the clockspring was replaced. the engine light illuminated several more times. the catalytic converter was replaced. updated 10/01/15*jb updated 12/23/15.*jb

Recurring engine stalls. dangerous if on highway or going through intersection (which occurred in my case). vehicle is at dealer for engine repair. *tr

On separate occasions vehicle had issue shifting from 1st to 2nd gear lurching forward even when at a stop and my foot was on the break. the vehicle also had three issues with the def sensors which were worked on or replaced three separate times. since the last fixed was just done on or approximately around february 1st , i will be waiting to see if the issue continues. the latest issue is has something to do with the catalyst. it's having an issue sensing that the vehicle is creating enough heat to burn off by product. it is slated to be replaced within two weeks. i have been notifying jeep about all of these problems. i have a case manager working on the problems. i have read several sites that show there is an issue with an exposed def sensor which jeep is not acknowledging. it is the new eco-diesel engine. *tr

While driving the vehicle stopped working and would not accelerate. i took it to the dealership and they said that there was a problem with the filter that was attached to the transmission and they reset the transmission. two days later it stop working while in the middle of an intersection and when it was down shifting it became jerky and would lunge forward. it also started making a noise when put into reverse and the dash said that the vehicle needed to be put into gear while i was driving. it is back at the garage again to be fixed. this is a serious safety issue! when i was at the service center the manager showed me a recall from chrysler that was dated 11/2013 and was about this issue. he also told me that chrysler stopped using this transmission at the end of 11/2013 because of these problems. there is no way to fix these problems, but chrysler does not want recall any of these vehicles. what is a consumer suppose to do? *tr

From a stop, right turn, accel towards planned speed of 60. at app. 50mph approaching guardrails then bridge the vehicle 'locks up' (no screeching brakes), thought 'trans' (previous unresolved problems), engine sputters, about to die, speed has dropped 30mph, (assume no brake lights). quick decision (rails 75'), get to shoulder. small shoulder, deep ditch with a steep downhill pitch to the river. just as i was about to enact the decision the engine "roars" to life and hits 65mph before i can react and apply the brakes mid-bridge. the whole incident only took seconds, maybe 7 to 10. took it, once again, to blevins motors, potsdam ny and once again was told that their diagnostic computer saw no abnormalities. this time i asked for a print out of said report and was told there was no such thing as a 'print out'. i am a 100% disabled vet with a head injury and ptsd. this the salesman was notified of the first thing. i did not mention the ptsd as it had always been my problem and explosive anger was never present. the "injury" was after months of lies and 'dirty dealing' from the start that they finally 'beat a path' in my brain to the anger part. it led to many visits with my va psychologist, loss of friends as i seemed abnormally consumed with my ill-treatment by blevins, which i was, and total frustration that i had no recourse via the law because i could "blow" at the least slight. i have to a great degree put the 'ptsd' back in its box, but the damage to what was an already slowly slipping brain that i had accepted, it took a big hit damage wise. i no longer check e'mail. [xxx] day or night. thankyou! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).тАЭ

While driving at 45 mph in traffic the jeep stopped shifting and remained stuck in 6th gear. the vehicle completely stopped downshifting rendering acceleration impossible. the dealer said the transmission valve failed and had to be replaced. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the engine stalled numerous times while driving various speeds. the gear system also emitted a noise and jerked while shifting gears. as a result, the contact struck an object while driving. there were no injuries. in addition, the heating system failed. the air conditioner and heater made a loud noise when activated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for the failures. the dealer upgraded the software system several times, but the failure was not corrected. the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train), but the failure was not corrected. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 1,000.

My 2014 jeep grand cherokee ecodiesel shudders/vibrates intermittently at highway speeds. evidently, this is a common problem in this particular model, and so much so that it now has a name, "fish bites". at least one technical service bulletin and possibly even more (many have similar symptoms) have acknowledged the drivetrain as the source and have attempted to resolve it with software flashes. after numerous visits to the dealer to correct the issue, the "fish bites" are still happening, and are getting increasingly worse. unfortunately, after the last visit and being told it had been resolved, i had to find out that the attempted fix did not work while on a tight two-lane road. the occurrence nearly caused the vehicle to lose control at high speed. prospective buyers of this model should recognize that it may be unsafe, as this unresolved issue was clearly a hazard to myself and to the vehicles in close proximity. *tr

I have been to the dealership three times to have my transmission evaluated due to the vehicle lurching forward as i slow down to a stop as well as rough shifting while while accelerating/decelerating. the dealership says a part needs to be replaced but was unable to give me an estimate of when the part will be in and will not return my calls for updates. *js

When i was driving on a highway, and this has happened multiple times before but i never thought anything of it until it happens intermittently, i was driving on a highway and when i speed up and let go of the gas pedal, the vehicle continues to speed up afterwards putting my family in danger. also, when i go to turn my vehicle, the steering locks up from time to time making it very difficult to turn the wheel and dangerous if on a busy road which could cause an accident. *tr

Vehicle is an eco-diesel model. engine check light came on and the vehicle abruptly lost power as we accelerated away from a stop light. initially the vehicle would not go over 20 mph. it gradually allowed us to get up to about 50 mph, but with noticeable vibration. then a notice displayed on the information center telling us to service the electronic speed control. took it in the next day and the dealer said we were driving with left foot on the brake and right foot on the accelerator causing the computer to be confused. same problem happened a second time a week later. this time it gained enough power to get us up to 40 mph and home. we then had it towed to the dealer. not sure what they did to fix the problem but it has not happened since, however the engine check light has come on again 3 different times. each time the dealer says that they don't know what is causing the problem. the first two times the engine check light came on the dealer said it was ok to drive until they could schedule service. the third time we asked the dealer to contact jeep headquarters for technical support. corporate jeep said not to drive the vehcile with the engine light on, that it could cause serious problems. on-line research and discussion with other local owners of the same eco-diesel model suggest this is a systemic problem with potential safety issues.

2014 jeep grand cherokee. consumer states that without warning the gear shift jumps out of drive or reverse into neutral and the motor shuts off. *tgw the consumer stated each time the vehicle was towed to the dealer, they stated the vehicle needed a program update. *jb

I have a 2014 jeep grand cherokee srt. i was at a stop light in the turn left lane. once the light changed green i pressed accelerator and while turning all power cut out on the vehicle. while in traffic i coasted to the side of the road. the vehicle restarted after i can to a full stop power appeared to come back on and i pushed the start button with foot on brake. second event happened 9/10/14 again i was in the left hand turn lane (different street) and when light changed i pressed accelerator and while starting the turn all power instantly went out rendering the vehicle totally disabled in traffic. once i got it into a safe spot i called and tried to have it jump started. this did not work at all. total power failure no response and had to be towed to dealer. very dangerous situations. *tr

At approximately 12:50pm, while driving in sport mode, going up a hill, i was accelerating normally at a reasonable pace after making a right-hand turn. the acceleration pedal around 30 mph disengaged from my foot and floored itself, and continued accelerating. despite pushing on the break pedal repeatedly. i could not initially un-stick the accelerator pedal using my foot. the engine made some noise and a warning with a red light appeared on the instrument panel: "service electronic throttle". because the breaks were not working i engaged the gear shift to turn to the vehicle from s/sport mode back to d/drive mode. i pressed the break pedal again and again, still nothing. the jeep reached above 72-77 mph+ on that street highway. i was well beyond concerned for my own safety but for the safety of the intersection in which i was about to approach. finally, i wedged my shoe in between the floor and the accelerator pedal (which was difficult b/c it would not budge), the pedal finally released, but there was still no immediate reaction from the engine until 1-2 complete seconds later. i could have been seriously injured, seriously hurt others, or died. *tr

grand cherokee jeep suv, 2014, a brand new vehicle from tate chrysler car dealer in frederick, md on 21 july 2014 with only 251 miles. and i purchased this vehicle in full with cash and i was told that i had two months to purchase the lifetime warranty, on the day i returned to purchase the lifetime warranty, the financial manager told me that it was not available for my vehicle. i did complain about the smell of fuses coming from the engine of a new vehicle now to the dealer several time, now all of a sudden my suv is not qualified for a lifetime warranty. i still purchases the bump to bump 120,000 miles extend warranty anyway, but the dealer has not solve my problem of the smell of fuses coming from the engine, they didnot take me seriously, concerning the smell from the engine. i came home from work and my husband told me they have a re-call on my vehicle. i made an appointment with services department and asked the question could this be a result of the smell that was coming from the engine, and the service department told me no it didnot have anything to do with it. before my appointment to services department to repair the re-call problem, i am still smell fuses from my engine and now the engine light came on, this is why i believe tate chrysler deliberately sold me a vehicle that they knew of mechanical problems and did not want to give me a lifetime warranty. i worked very hard to be able to purchases what i need and i really like the style of this vehicle that i am driving but i do believe the dealer sold me a lemon or a vehicle with serious mechanical problems. for a vehicle with only 6500 miles as 1 january 2015. and i have been to the car dealer about smell from engine, to many times and tate chrysler dealer did not do anything about. *js

In less than a year of ownership my car started with the problems. on 8/19/14 the car idles but it will not start. towed it to midway jeep and chrysler the car was returned to me running but was told they would be ordering a tipm part which is part of a recall. on 9/4/14 i came back and the tipm was replaced. on 12/17/14 the same issue occurred again and another tipm was replaced. it is now 2/27/15 and i am experiencing the same problem. the car has been towed again. this is a lemon. *tr

I really need your help. in april of 2014 i bought a brand new jeep grand cherokee summit edition for $60,000. i was thrilled to have finally owned my dream car since 1997! i started having issues with the car in august... and when i say issues, i don't mean the radio blitzing out. the car turned off in the middle of a 4 way intersection and wouldn't restart for 3-4 attempts!!!! terrified i took it to the dealership who said it registered some check engine light codes but they couldn't find why it did that. they turned the light off and had me pick the car up. after repeating the same thing, about 8-10 more times the car just shutting off and going back into the shop a second and third time they now said oh we figured out what the problem was and its fixed. i was thrilled for this to be over! a couple weeks later i was driving on the freeway going 65 mph with no cars around me or insight. all of the sudden the car dashboard said brake!!! and the car applied the abs brakes and abruptly slowed the car down to 40 mph!!!! i was so scared at that point, to top it off the car again shut off and the check engine light back on. i took the car to the dealership for the 4th time where they now have put me in a rental for 40 days. this time i was told my car registered 57 codes but they were not able to fix or diagnose the problem. i expressed my concern when i was asked to pick the car up. i don't feel safe in that car and i have lost faith in that vehicle. i asked that they buy the car back since it legally falls under the lemon law and they refused. they left me no choice but to hire a lemon law attorney. i now have lost faith in jeep/chrysler for the way they are handling this. they would rather put myself and others in harms way than to do the right thing. I was driving on the highway where i spend most of my time while in my vehicle putting over 30k miles on my car in one year to get back and forth to work and while jumping on a major route 101a in nh where cars drive very fast my engine shuts down and i can not do anything but put on my hazard lights and hope the cars passing at 65mph dont hit me. this happened at least 3 - 5 times afterward and even a couple of times after having the dealer looking into the vehicle and i have been told it was a software update but they are unable to provide me with the details of what the software update is and what it resolves. i have since had the issue and brought it in for service numerous times and i told the same thing over and over and they keep reinstalling my software and tell me that it's all set and i am no longer satisfied nor feel safe in my vehicle that i put a lot of highway miles to get back and forth to work. please help since nobody is able to help me and since i put on so many miles i am unable to be covered by the lemon law within a short period of owning the vehicle and its very frustrating. *tr

Our vehicle completely lost all power while traveling in heavy traffic in the left hand lane of a major four lane highway at ~75 miles per hour putting us in a very dangerous situation due to the difficulty maneuvering (loss of steering and brakes) the vehicle across three lanes to the right side emergency lane. several different tow trucks had to be called causing us to be left sitting for hours on a hazardous interstate. the vehicle was never able to be restarted until it had been at the dealership several hours. the consumer experienced an identical failure on august 16,2014 updated 09/10/14

As you accelerate the diesel grand cherokee and it reaches 7th gear, the car starts shuddering as if the vehicle is about to "fall apart". this issue happens every time when in 7th and 8th gear. i've had to use the paddle shifters to maintain the vehicle in 6th gear to avoid such shaking in the highway. i've taken the vehicle to an empty road and accelerated to reproduce the issue and kept my foot in the petal and it eventually settles down after 8th gear. but if you remove foot from gas and let the car shift back to 6th when you re-accelerate the shuddering returns again. the entire car just shakes. jeep has been unable to find a solution to this and the vehicle is not even a year old yet. *tr

1) driving ~ 45 mph. 2) parking/crash detection sensor on the front driver side makes audible noise for 2 seconds, then noise ceases - this parking/crash detection issue was reported to the dealership 3 days prior. 3) all consoles go blank, to include speedometer (which is digital), temperature, navigation, etc. (driver & center consoles) - hands free phone call linked within the vehicle disconnects midway through call at this time as well. 4) engine appears operational, but seems to be in a lower gear and acceleration is problematic, brakes are sluggish. 5) electrical system in the vehicle reboots while driving ~10 seconds later, displaying multiple warning messages (check engine light, low battery voltage, no abs, suspension system, etc.). 6) pulled the car over at the first safe location ~1/4 mile. 7) vehicle would not go into park, applied emergency brake and turned vehicle off. 8) restarted vehicle, check engine and low battery voltage light remains on, but vehicle appears stable enough to drive ~2 miles home. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds uphill and towing a recreational vehicle, the vehicle overheated. per the manufacturer, the vehicle's maximum towing capacity weight should be 7,200 lbs., but the recreational vehicle weighed less than 7,200 lbs. the failure occurred numerous times. the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 8,000.

While driving up a grade at 50 mph, vehicle began to shake/shudder/vibrate. i had to tramp the accelerator to engage the transmission to work through the situation. this has happened at least a dozen times. dealer has not been able to replicate the condition. the catalytic converter is being replaced on 7/16. i do not know if this is the cause of the problem. *tr

This situation has happened 5 or 6 times between june-dec 2014 on our jeep grand cherokee summit 4x4 ecodiesel. after coming to a complete stop a service electronic throttle warning flashes on dash board. when the accelerator is pressed to continue forward there is no power and the vehicle will not accelerate forward. on some occasions the car had to be restarted several times before it operated normally again. on other occasions the car regains acceleration capability after a short 10 to 15 second delay. we have had the car in for service for this issue but the dealer found no error codes in the system when diagnostics were run. we are taking the car in for service again on 12/16/14. we have been lucky so far that we are not in the way of oncoming traffic when this has happened or that we have not been hit from behind when we are unable to accelerate after stopping at stop signs or traffic lights. we would certainly like to get this problem fixed before we are involved in a crash. *tr

As of yesterday i have had my 2014 grand cherokee for 1 year. i bought it with 6 miles on it brand new. since then i have been back to the dealer 16 times for numerous issues. 4 of which was related to the faulty transmission. there were 3 flash updates for the transmission and none of the addressed he problem. the rough shifting, jerking of the vehicle and extremely high running rpm's must be doing further damage to the power train. there is no smooth shifting from 1-2-3 nor is there from 3-2-1. getting on and off the highway is always interesting. trying to get on the highway the vehicle feels bogged down and takes some time to shift to the next gear. you are giving it gas and it just is stuck in 3-4 or 5th gear and you are putting on the highway trying to get on and then out of no where the transmission unleashes and the car just takes off. getting off the highway on an exit ramp any time of slow down (fast or gradually) the car just whines and the rpm's are way in the red, since the transmission will not downshift properly. again brought it to the dealer that sold it to me for all the flash updates and another visit to say it is still not operating properly and they told me to run it in sport mode or turn off the eco button. well what good is giving you the option for a eco button and can't even use it....not to mention it really doesn't address the underlining problem with the faulty transmission. very frustrated with he car, jeep and the dealer due to their lack of support. this is a well known issue on this new released vehicle and no one wants to fix it until someone unfortunately gets hurt from faulty operation of the power train. i now have about 10,000 miles and still like from day one i am having all the same transmission problems. *tr

Brand new jeep grand cherokee (less than 1800 miles). discovered oil and grease in the inside of the front rims. took vehicle to dealership and was told that the cv joints on both of the front axles had failed. advised by dealership that it would not be too safe to drive because of possible freeze/seizure of the axles. turned vehicle in for warranty repair. found online (including this site) that this is common on new vehicles from 2014 production dates. vehicle is now scheduled to get replacement parts approximately on 5/30, but no guarantees. notified jeep (chrysler llc) of the issue and opened an internal complaint case. *tr

Oil pressure sensor light on at 50,000 miles...pulling code p0250

The def injector for the 2014 jeep grand cherokee ecodiesel is located underneath the vehicle behind the rear wheels. it is very brittle and sensitive and if a rock or splashing water from the tire hits the injector it will break. the jeep will then give only 200 miles to the driver and then won't start. this severely affects the confidence of long distance travel of the driver. there is no skid plate or protective panel to mitigate this issue except it breaking and getting it fixed under warranty. even with the optional off road packages does it not get a protective panel. *tr

While entering a busy interstate and accelerating from a stop to 65 mph on the onramp, the jeep grand cherokee drive train began shuddering violently and would not stop. it felt like the vehicle was running over severe bumps in the road yet the surface was free of defects. i was disoriented by the shaking sensation which would stop if i decelerate but returned immediately when accelerating to merge. i was forced off the road by faster traffic and my inability to speed up. i had to stop on the roadside and attempt to merge again when traffic cleared. my re-attempt to accelerate caused shuddering again at 45 mph. i pulled over again and shut the vehicle off. i restarted and, on my third attempt, accelerated very aggressively with the vehicle shuddering at 45 mph up to 65 mph. when i quite accelerating th e shudder quit. this violent drive train shudder has occurred often since then. i have learned that this occurs most often in the first 10 miles of operation and i can minimize the shudder when it occurs by accelerating at full throttle which is unsafe. my online research indicates others are complaining of this same issue in various auto forums. i have had my jeep dealer apply service updates and test drive the vehicle but jeep has yet to fix this issue. in my opinion, this is ridiculous in a new car and is a drive ability and safety concern. *tr
