We have classified the 72 complaints from 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
Two months ago, our jeep dealership performed the v08 recall as per the epa/doj fca ecodiesel settlement. since then, i've experienced lack of throttle response (lag), causing unpredictable and unsafe conditions when making a left turn at an intersection.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while attempting to merge into traffic from a parking lot, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle independently accelerated. the contact stated that excessive effort was needed to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to dave syverson chrysler (located at 2310 e main st, albert lea, mn 56007, (507) 373-1438) to be diagnosed, but the mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code on three separate occasions. the contact stated that the dealer replaced several of the computers in the vehicle, which possibly included the ecm, pcm, and tcm; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 49,999.
I was driving my 2014 jeep grand cherokee when it shut off while i was driving 40 mph luckily i was in a parking lot and could slow down to the shoulder where i was then pushed away from traffic they said it was due to a short in my tippin and my fuel pump went my truck was brought brand new and barely has 50,000 miles on it and over 2000 complaints for the same thing for faulty equipment put in the vehicles from 2005 to 2014 and chrysler does not want to be held accountable so they have not put a recall on it and it is an open lawsuit that i saw it cost me over $3000 to get this fixed and this could really have went a different way i could've been hit and killed chrysler needs to be held accountable but i guess they won't make a recall and less someone is killed
Takata recall when i press the start button in the jeep it hesitates to start. sometimes have to do it couple times, then it shifts funny when you press on gas like it doesn't get enough power.
As approaching an intersection i began to coast and place my foot on the brake. at the time i started to brake, the vehicle surged forward for 1 second. as i came closer to a stop, the vehicle surged again at which point i had to "stand" on the brake pedal to prevent me and my family from rear-ending a vehicle and going into a busy intersection.
While going through a carwash this weekend, my car accelerated at some point after the gear was put into neutral, and hit the car in front of me. when the brushes in front of me parted i could see i was going to hit the car in front of me and tried to stop with the brakes but did not stop in time. a couple years ago while slowing towards the end of a lane with my foot on the brake it had also accelerated, causing me to almost hit another vehicle before the acceleration stopped. periodically, but not often, when i am at a stop and then proceed my car will lurch forward as if i had floored the gas pedal, but i haven't. my husband has been with me and said not to floor it. i just give him the look and say i didn't. yesterday, however, just hours after the car wash incident, he was driving the jeep when he thought he experienced the same "over-acceleration" after proceeding from a stop. the car-wash attendant yesterday had accused me of not putting my car in neutral but i had pointed to my dash to show him it was in neutral. he didn't believe me but then looked at their video which was inconclusive. but something made him do a google search where he came across sudden unexpected acceleration in jeep grand cherokees, at which point he apologized for basically accusing me of lying.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while driving out of the parking lot, the vehicle shut off and the insufficient battery charge indicator illuminated. the failure recurred and the vehicle was towed to ron carter chrysler jeep dodge ram of league city (281-668-5383, located at 3535 gulf fwy, dickinson, tx 77539). the dealer stated that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 17v435000 (electrical system), 17v572000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic), and 18v332000 (electrical system, vehicle speed control). the vehicle was kept at the shop for the recall repairs. four days later, the dealer still had not completed the repair, stating that the gear was stuck in park. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 83,000. parts distribution disconnect.
Complete electronic and communications failure of instrument panel from unknown electrical shortage resulting in loss of control over transmission shifting and most control switches like windshield wipers, turn signals, emergency flashers and brake warning like is on that i believe indicated no abs. experienced this problem many times driving on i-75 in michigan and ohio. very dangerous situation while on the road without any prior warning. initial warning is "service shifter soon" followed by "no bus". after multiple trips to the fca dealer, root cause not identified and more fix to date. suspect the electronic shifter malfunctioning but no help from dealer service department. reoccuring problem for the past 9 months. current mileage is 79,000 miles with vin # (xxx) 2014 jeep grand cherokee. no accidents or aftermarket add on work ever. i fear for my safety driving this vehicle to florida for retirement on 1-25-2019 through 1-29-2019. again, no resolution from golling chrysler or from fca star case #57876853. i fear this vehicle is not reliable at this point for short or long distance driving. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *cw
Takata recall i was driving a 40mph street when i was going to make a left turn. i was waiting for cars to pass to make the turn when the throttle control light came on the dashboard. i was trying to turn but the car wouldn't let me accelerate. i am thankful that there wasn't any cars coming towards me. i pulled over turned it off and back on it went away. the car had a recall in 2017 for the alternator. i had a similar incident where i was driving and the jeep had slowed down it completely turned off but was able to pull over at a apartment complex. the jeeps dashboard lights were flashing the windshield wipers were on really fast, everything was flashing. i couldn't put the car in parking, it was smoking. i had my daughter in the back seat, i had managed to turn around get her out while my foot was on the pedal jump out of the car with her in my arms. the car kept moving until it crashed into a car infront of it. i felt like i was going to die with my daughter in the car. i feel like the throttle could be related to the alternator. i am scared to drive my car.
The defrost and temperature will it stay constant. i can set the temp to 70. it will get super hot and minutes later it feels like the ac is on. the defrost doesn't work most of the time and will not defrost the mirrors
The alternator light came on in the vehicle while driving, then within about 10-15 minutes the radio had no sound although the screen was still lit. other lights then came on such as the engine light, anti-lock brakes. about 5 minutes later, i had to stop at a stop sign, when taking off again, the car would barely move. it wouldn't go above about 10-15 miles per hour, then it picked up speed but i no longer had power steering. as i pull into a parking lot to get the car off of the road, the wipers turned on (even though the switch was off). when i got into the parking spot, the car could not be put into park due to the power issues. i had to hold my foot on the brake until the engine died. within 2-3 minutes the engine died. everything was dead, including the power locks. then a few minutes later the dash would light saying the ignition or accessory unit was turned on but you couldn't do anything to turn it off. everything would then turn off again. after sitting for about 30-45 min, the car would start back up but it was not driven anywhere, we had it towed. both the alternator and battery needed to be replaced which is what caused the issues. the alternator is under a recall for my model/year/engine type but not for my vin. the recall was due to very similar issues, loss of steering control, loss of power.
In the process of parking at my sister's home, i took my foot off the accelerator and started to brake. the car did not slow down. i continued to brake, but the car kept going forward with increasing speed. i was able to steer and not hit parked cars, but went into the lawn hitting a set of contractor's scaffolding sending them flying into their house and patio. the car finally stopped on top of their well head, destroying the well cover as well as the protective pipe for the well head. further internal damage was done to their well, as there was no running water in the house. a tow truck had to come to lift the car off the well head to avoid any further damage. i had been using the cruise control earlier in our trip, but it was not active at the time.
The vehicle stalled while crossing into a four lane highway.the vehicle would not re-start for over a minute all while disabled in oncoming traffic. the check engine line came on, the cluster display showed numerous warnings including service throttle control.
While driving on the highway with no vehicles or obstacles in front of me, the break assist collision avoidance went off indicating an imminent collision and stopping the car. perhaps related to the same issue, a few minutes after this incident the computer also displayed an error message stating that the automatic windshield wipers were not working properly
With the vehicle in drive and when traffic is clear release the brake and depress accelerator pedal intermittently i get the message " service electronic throttle control" at that precise moment, there is no accelerator, vehicle may move ahead slowly from an idle but that is it. when the message goes away the throttle responds normal. the last 3 times this has happened i was coasting down hill with my foot off both pedals.i have had it into the dealer ship several times. this issue has been ongoing for over 2 years now. because i can not show them the issue, when i take it in, they do nothing.
When i attempt to accelerate quickly, the car seems to shift into neutral (although it doesn't display that it is in neutral on the screen) and will not accelerate. the engine still revs when i push the accelerator, but the car acts as if it is in neutral and the car will not accelerate. this problem has occurred several times in my vehicle, and each time i have been traveling at speeds of greater than 40 mph and it has occurred when i have attempted to accelerate quicker than normal, such as when i am merging on to the highway. i believe it is a problem with either the transmission or the computer that operates the transmission.
Jeep accelerated on its own from 40-67mph i tried to press brake to stop car but it didn't work since the jeep kept on acceleraiting. tried to shift to natural and ride it out but it wouldn't shift it was stuck on accelerating. killed the engine since the brake wasn't stopping the car since it kept on trying to accelerate and since i couldn't shift to natural. jeep has had my car for 2 days and can't find anything wrong with it and claim they have never heard of that issue which is the reason i'm reaching out here.
Multiple problems with the forward collision warning (fcw) and adaptive cruise control (acc) systems 1) system will issue false brake warnings (and apply brakes if enabled) on clear straight roads with no other cars or obstructions. 2) system will disable itself at random intervals disable itself for a period of time (10-20 minutes). only notification is brief "fcw/acc system disabled" notification in gauge cluster - no audio warning that important safety system disabled itself. 3) when using acc, when vehicle resumes set speed after autonomous braking, vehicle will accelerate into back of next vehicle ahead - have to manually intervene and apply brakes to prevent collision. note that this vehicle uses a bosch lrr3 radar sensor system for the fcw and acc features. vehicle has been into jeep dealers for service for this issue five times, and even after opening star case with jeep/chrysler fca, still no fix for this serious safety issue.
Adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance did not work properly, and resulted in a collision. i was driving on a highway, relying on the adaptive cruise control and the automatic braking, a feature of collision avoidance. there was a slow down in traffic, and although the system slowed down and applied brake, it did so too late to stop car. as i got too close, i applied steady pressure on the brake, but i still hit the car in front of me, who then hit the car in front of them. no significant damage to either of the other cars, and mine has minor cosmetic damage, and the adaptive cruise control is now not working properly. could have been significantly worse. makes me really question the potential for self-driving cars. *tr
While vehicle was in motion on the highway the engine shut off. my wife was driving it with our 4 year old daughter in the backseat. at that time the vehicle lost power steering. she called me in a panic. i called the jeep dealer who came and towed the vehicle in to the service department. the same thing happened while the jeep was in the shop at california superstores in valencia, ca. they called me several times to come and pick the car up because they could not figure out what happened, but that there was not a "fix" for it. due to concerns for my familys safety i refused to pick the car up and called chrysler who told me not to pick the car up, that it was dangeous to drive it. the next weeki was again told to come and pick the car up, this time by both the dealer at california superstores, valencia, ca and by the corporate people at chrysler, and told there was no fix for the problem. the car just randomly shuts off while driving it. i opened a claim withchrysler corp. about the car stalling out but have not heard back about any fix or recall. the car is unsafe to drive and i am not receiving any help from the dealer or chrysler corp. i paid almost $38,000 for the car and do not even want to drive it or have my family in it due to the possibility that it could stall again (it has happened several times), the steering go out, and cause an accident harming us or other drivers on the roadways.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while attempting to park the vehicle, it independently accelerated and crashed into another parked vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. a police report was filed. there were no injuries. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed, but the cause of the failure was not found. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 16,500.
Forward collision warning (fcw) occasionally comes on without reason in city traffic, interstates, and country roads (no traffic or obstructions nearby) and at various speeds causing a "brake" warning signal and sometimes, not always, actually causing the vehicle to brake. related to the fcw problem is a warning signal that frequently appears that indicates the adaptive cruise control/fcw are unavailable. vehicle has been in shop numerous times and except for one time that the dealership found a part missing, the dealership continues to indicate they cannot duplicate the problem. the problem remains on-going and has not been resolved. the date of occurance below is the most recent event with the "brake" warning.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would stop accelerating and approximately 20 second later the vehicle would operate as normal. in addition, the electronic throttle calibration warning message would display during the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the adaptive cruise control sensor but the failure continued to occur. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 13,500.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. while the vehicle was parked, it suddenly accelerated independently and crashed into a building. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred while being outside of the vehicle. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 11,240.
While travelling on open highway with no vehicles in front of me, the adaptive cruise control will dramatically slow down as if it's detecting a vehicle in front. this was reported to the dealer who responded that they would need to take my vehicle home on a 20 mile trip, in rush hour, with cars around them. unless i let them take my vehicle on a long highway trip, in the early morning hours, this will not be re-produced. i said no for obvious reasons. this is now documented with the dealership and chrysler.
I was driving down the road today and my turns signals got stuck on again! this isn't the first time this has happened and this is not the first complaint i have filed. i have had my 2014 jeep grand cherokee back to the dealership service department four times for this same issue. i have been told all four times that they cannot duplicate the problem. i have two videos of my turn signals getting stuck on and my dash flashing and reading the incorrect speed but the service department continues to tell me that they cannot duplicate it. well, today there was almost an accident because of it. my turn signals got stuck on and another car pulled out in front of me and i almost hit them, they obviously thought i was turning, which i was not but yet again my turn signals were stuck on. fca is fully aware of this issue. i have called them numerous times but they have no solution for me. i feel completely unsafe in my jeep grand cherokee and it is just an accident waiting to happen.
While driving with the adaptive cruise control engaged the vehicle braked itself hard extremely slowing the car down on the highway. there were no cars in front or in other lanes when this happened. had a car been following me i would most likely been rear ended.took the vehicle to the dealer and, after checking out the vehicle, they indicated that they could not duplicate the problem, that the software was up to date, and that the acc system is "working as designed." this is a major safety issue that under different circumstances could have resulted in a serious accident with injuries or worse.
I was driving home from work on 7/5/15 and my dash started flashing. it was reading the incorrect speed and mileage and i could not get it to stop. i have contacted my jeep dealer service department and fca about this. this is not the first time this has happened. i have been complaining about the speedometer, odometer and the dash flashing since august 2014 but everytime i have taken it in for service i have been told that they cannot duplicate the problem. well this time i took a video of it happening. my speedometer would read my traveling 30mph then all the way down to 20mph and then all the way up to 40mph all in my 22 second video! i have no idea how fast i was really going and the flashing is very disstracting to try and drive and pay attention to the road. i have told fca for almost a year now that i do not feel my jeep grand cherokee is safe and i continue to have more and more electrical problems with it even after the recalls were completed and i have yet to hear anything from them. i called and complained so much to them that they asked me to stop calling.
My daughter was parking her 2014 jeep grand cherokee outside of a retail store. as she slowed and pulled into a parking space, the jeep suddenly surged forward, jumping the curb, crossing a sidewalk, going through a small grass median, and into a different area of the parking lot. the police report, oklahoma city police department report, case number 15-redacted, accurately records the surge. the officers conclusion was driver error. through research i have found numerous similar complaints concerning 2014 jeep grand cherokees. i called the service manager for the jeep dealership where we purchased the vehicle. i told him about the accident and that when the jeep came in for repair, i wanted the accident data preserved. he told me the only data that he could obtain was jeeps proprietary information, which i could not have. a representative form my insurance company is adamant that we, as the owners of the jeep, have a right to any information captured by the jeeps systems. however, the insurance company had no way to obtain that information when they appraised the damage to the jeep. i need help in obtaining the data by someone outside of jeep who can access it, or help to compel jeep to provide me with the information, hence this online submission. the website which contains other complaints about 2014 jeep grand cherokees is http://www.carcomplaints.com/jeep/grand_cherokee/2014/engine/vehicle_speed_control-2.shtml. 2014 jeep grand cherokee vehicle speed control problems | page 2 the website concern jeep grand cherokees or all years having trouble when the tires/brakes get wet is jumpin' jeeps are hard to tie down
After backing the car out of the garage i was going to get out to go back into the house.. i put the car (i thought) in park, my foot was still on the brake. i started to remove my foot from the brake and the car slightly started forward i realized the car wasn't in park but drive and when i went to depress the brakes further to change gears and stop the forward motion the car suddenly revved the engine, squealed its tires while pealing out and accelerating at a high rate of speed back into the garage smashing into a brick wall and my dining room. the damage to the car is over $15,000 and damage to the house is approx. $9000. i know my foot was on the brake!` my face hit the steering wheel cutting my lip. the airbag did not deploy. i have two years left on the lease and i am terrified to drive it. in all of my years of driving i have never had an accident and i have always parked in a garage without incident. i have driven everything from yukons to navigators and never have i had an issue like this. i see from all the posts that i am not alone. this issue needs to be addressed before people are killed. updated 10/17/2017*cn
Driving through the eisenhower tunnel the brake warning system activated. the brakes did not engage. i have had this jeep for over a year and have driven through this tunnel over 80 times and now whenever driving through the tunnel this brake warning will flash. this has occurred approximately 16 times now. this warning is now going off on the open interstate and secondary roads. the adaptive cruise control stops workings after 15-20 minutes. this has been into two different dealers, only to tell me the lens was dirty. within 20 minutes after leaving the dealer (who cleaned the sensor) the system stops working and says to clean the sensor. no snow or water was driven through prior to the message being displayed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that without warning, the vehicle surged to a speed over 100 mph while traveling on a major highway. the contact was able to engage the brake pedal to slow the vehicle down. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v293000 (vehicle speed control). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 5,000.
I was driving approximately 40 mph on w. maple rd in troy, mi in the middle of the afternoon on february 18, 2015. there was minimal traffic on the road and no one in front of me in my lane or the lane next to me. suddenly, my dash lit up to brake and the car started braking on it's own. it happened so quickly that i wasn't even sure what it was. it happened again about a mile down the road. again the system applied the brakes and the warning word brake flashed on my dashboard when there was nothing near me. it happened quickly and then the car went back to normal without me doing or changing anything in the car. i brought it to the suburban chrysler dodge jeep ram dealership in troy and they said they were not able to recreate. no codes were activated in the computer and there were no service bulletins about it so there was nothing they could do.. . i took the car home and the same thing happened again to me five days later driving at approximately the same speed. this time the dealership kept the car longer, drove it 119 miles, used the miller tool kit to align the camera and still found nothing wrong. the following week, it happened again and i returned to the dealership. this time they replaced the front sensor and bubble aligned. the only thing that the dealership found was that on one of the test drives they couldn't get the acc system to work at all and still no reports showed up on the computer. the next test drive all systems were working, again no report on the computer of the change. the dealership still could not duplicate the problem but they thought that they fixed it.. in may, it happened again. it occurred while i was merging onto the expressway traveling at 63mph. i returned the car to the same dealership and again it was returned to me without being able to diagnose or fix the problem. . .updated 07/21/15 *bf
I was driving and stopped at the stop sign and when i accelerated after making the stop and took a left turn on g street located on kirtland air force base my car accelerated and i lost control and when i applied the brakes nothing happened and my car proceeded to hit a parked vehicle and still the brakes did not stop the car and the only reason the car stopped was because i hit some reinforced steel cables holding something up. four other vehicles were damages as a result of my brakes failing. *tr

2014 jeep grand cherokee. consumer writes in regards to vehicle sudden acceleration accident. *smd the consumer stated she had her foot on the brake, to shift to park. she noticed the column said neutral, and the next instant the vehicle went forward and crashed through a cement block wall and glass window of a store and bent the support pole. *jb
I have a 2014 jeep grand cherokee diesel. check engine light came on... took to dealer. they flashed it . check engine light came on again. this time the car gave me a warning that it would go into limp mode in 150 miles. took to dealer. it is parked they say its the pre-catalytic converter and it needs to be replaced. no time line on getting part or vehicle back. this limp mode is a major danger. the service manager said there were 46 "parked" jeeps waiting for the part. i regularly take my jeep into the outdoors i could be stranded if the jeep went into limp mode putting me in a dangerous situation. *tr
Our suv is equipped with collision avoidance and adaptive cruise control. the vehicle has repeatedly and without cause either alarmed or in some cases slowed to avoid a collision that is not eminent (i.e. along a straight section of highway with no vehicle or object within sight of the car). the system has provided multiple false alarms and we have not been able to determine a pattern or trigger. additionally the car reports at times that the acc is inoperable and then moments later the fault message disappears. the car has been taken in for service to address. to date the dealer has been unable to replicate the problem and jeep is unwilling to replace any parts or acknowledge the problem until it is replicated for them to be able to witness.
On november 17th, after about 30 seconds driving forward, the car shifted from 2nd gear back to first gear. the car practically skidded to shift back to first. i was thrown forward in the car. luckily, i wear my seatbelt. it would not shift out of first after that. the engine light came on. i had it towed to the dealership where i bought it. they said something is wrong with the transmission. they said they could not fix the transmission, but would replace the entire transmission. they said with a car this new, they do not have the knowledge to fixing the transmissions. they replaced the transmission and drove it 200 miles. they said it is fixed. i picked it up on a monday, november 24 and drove it home. the next day, i had the problem again. when turning on 4 lane road (2 in one direction and two in another), the vehicle started to go across the intersection. it appeared to try to shift to 2nd, but the car stopped moving (like it was in neutral). i had to start blowing the horn as oncoming cars were coming at a high rate of speed. i could have been killed. i immediately called the dealership. they picked the car up and drove it back to the dealership. they ran numerous tests on the car and could not duplicate the problem. they called and told me the car was ready. i have severe reservation about getting back in a vehicle that i could have been killed in and drive it away when i know, the dealership knows and chrysler knows, they couldn?t duplicate the problem and they didn?t fix anything. so, basically, i will be driving a ticking time bomb that could blow up at any time. my wife, kids and grandkids could be in jeopardy and other drivers on the road. i paid over 50k for this vehicle, only to find myself stressed out over this fact. i cannot get back into this vehicle knowing nothing was fixed and i was almost killed. *js
Intermittent problem: acc/fcw not available. says service required. stability controls turns on and off by itself. also driver's assist backup camera not showing lines. next day same thing happened. *tr

When i go to press the brakes and come to a stop, my vehicle jerks when it slows down as if its almost stuck in a gear while it downshifts which causes the vehicle to move forward while trying to slow down which can cause an accident. *tr
Vehicle is an eco-diesel model. engine check light came on and the vehicle abruptly lost power as we accelerated away from a stop light. initially the vehicle would not go over 20 mph. it gradually allowed us to get up to about 50 mph, but with noticeable vibration. then a notice displayed on the information center telling us to service the electronic speed control. took it in the next day and the dealer said we were driving with left foot on the brake and right foot on the accelerator causing the computer to be confused. same problem happened a second time a week later. this time it gained enough power to get us up to 40 mph and home. we then had it towed to the dealer. not sure what they did to fix the problem but it has not happened since, however the engine check light has come on again 3 different times. each time the dealer says that they don't know what is causing the problem. the first two times the engine check light came on the dealer said it was ok to drive until they could schedule service. the third time we asked the dealer to contact jeep headquarters for technical support. corporate jeep said not to drive the vehcile with the engine light on, that it could cause serious problems. on-line research and discussion with other local owners of the same eco-diesel model suggest this is a systemic problem with potential safety issues.
