On average, the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the SEAT BELTS and its various aspects after 39 681 miles.

Recently reported SEAT BELTS problems on 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

D right height adjuster for passenger side seatbelt broke and will not all the seat belt to retract.

Passenger front seatbelt will not retract. they dealership is telling me it's $500 to fix because i'm at 76,000 miles. this is a safety issue and it needs to be addressed. this is beyond dangerous.

The driver's side seat belt just stopped retracting one day. there was no crash or event of any kind. i've verified online that this specific complaint is very common and essentially leaves the driver with no seat belt or a very loose seat belt.

Drivers seatbelt and middle back seat wont retract.

Seat belt mechanism no longer retracts on driver side. as a result, the seat belt will provide no safety benefit in a crash.

Driver seat belt won't retract. upper shoulder harness guide has cracked and is pinching the belt keeping it from retracting. this is a 2014 jeep grand cherokee with 54,000 miles. this is a factory defect and should be covered as a safety. there is not replacement part you have replace the whole seat belt assembly at a huge cost.

My drivers seat seatbelt will not retract

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the front driver's side seat belt did not retract. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to burtness chrysler dodge jeep ram (located at 1421 w main st, whitewater, wi 53190, (262) 473-3072) where it was diagnosed that the seat belt assembly needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 120,000.

Seat belt tensioner have several hairline cracks on them (driver and front passenger). the passenger's side tensioner finally broke and pinched the seat belt and restricted the seat belt from retracting into the retractor in the side housing. we did not know the seat belt had a problem till one day my wife got in the car and went to put her seat belt on. she put the buckle in and the seat belt never retracted into the wall to properly fit her across her chest. a jeep dealership replaced the seat belt assembly ($329) plus $125 for labor.

Manufactures seatbelt failure in my chrysler jeep grand cherokee both front seat belt have became non-operational while traveling on a hwy in yellow stone, wy. on june 24, 2019, both front seat belt became non-operational. they no longer retract or stop when tested. two years ago my curbside rear passenger belt fail to release trapping my daughter in her seat. i was forced to cut her free and replace the entire mechanism. i have searched online and found hundreds of people complaining about the same problem. my jeep is currently unsafe to operate until i buy and install two new front seatbelts. this will cost the average american over a thousand dollars to repair. many will just drive unsafe automobiles due to the outrages cost.

On our 2014 jeep grand cherokee the plastic seat belt guide, on the passenger side has cracked pinching down on the seat belt rendering it not usable. the seat belt will expand out, however it does not retract in due to the pressure from the broken piece. the seat belt will not stop the passenger in a sudden impact and has enough slack that you can easily make contact with the dash and steering wheel. this malfunction occurred while stationary.*dt comsumer stated it was not taken anywhere for diagnosis as i have been a mechanic for over 30 years. i did not keep any records but i did fix the problem by trimming the plastic on the upper side of the seatbelt opening to allow free movement. this did not in any way compromise the integrity of the seatbelt or the ability for it to perform it's job as the top of the plastic trim should not have been touching in the first place. the plastic guard is there to keep dirt, dust and little fingers from getting inside the belt assembly and performs no other function. by removing 1/8" from the top of the opening, the seatbelt is now free to move back into the seat belt retractor and still provide protection from anything entering into the seatbelt area behind the plastic trim. seat belt does not work because of poor design.*jb

Safety issue as the passenger seat belt will not retract. *dt

Driver seat belt stopped retracting. had to pay over $500 for repair. moon roof started leaking, after two trips to the dealership, had to pay $750 to have it replaced.*dt*jb

Driver side front seat belt no longer retracts back in causing the shoulder belt to lay in pile on my lap. dealer said whole assembly including some air bag sensor(s) need to be replaced. parts are $400 alone. vehicle has less than 70,000 miles on it.

The front passenger seatbelt all of a sudden started to not retract. it came to a point where the passenger would strap in the belt and they would have enough room on their lap for an additional 2 people in order for belt to feel secure. when i finally got it to retract back in, i couldn't get it out again. in order for a passenger to sit comfortably while wearing the belt, they would have to recline the seat all the way back. i reached out to 2 different jeep dealers in my area and received a quote for about $540.00 before taxes. i was also told if my vehicle was under 60,000 miles, i could have gotten the work done for free. my luck right?! it is ridiculous that i have to pay about $600 for something that is an apparent issue for a lot of other jeep gc owners. there should be an open and active recall for this as it is a safety issue! to make matter worse, my driver seatbelt feels like it is also on its way out because it is slowing retracting after i take it off. i love my jeep, however, the company needs to get their act together and realize that this a serious issue that can and will result in serious injury or death due to a faulty seatbelt retractor that should be broken after 5 years!!!!!

Passenger side seat belt tensioner/retraction mechanism broke, drivers side is on its way out. car has 40k miles on it. 700 per side to fix out of warranty. should be recalled. this is a major safety concern. will never buy from fca again unless this is recalled/remedied.

On our 2014 jeep grand cherokee the plastic seat belt guide, on the driver side has cracked pinching down on the seat belt rendering it not usable. the seat belt will expand out, however it does not retract in due to the pressure from the broken piece. the seat belt will not stop the driver in a sudden impact and has enough slack that you can easily make contact with the dash and steering wheel. this malfunction occurred while stationary, and has not been resolved by fca.

The passenger side seat belt will no longer retract which means it cannot protect the occupant in a crash i called the dealership to schedule a repair. the dealer stated it was out of warranty and to call the chrysler help line. i did, the supervisior anthony stated it was a mechanical part and out of the warranty by mileage and time. i asked if the airbags were also out of warranty. the man said that's ridiculous. i stated what reason other than a manufacturers defect would cause this he said he couldn't speculate. i said me neither since the whole assembly has to be replaced because it doesn't come apart. which, in my opinion, would put the responsibility back on the mfg. to recap - a safety component that is legally required to be used and has no reason for being inoperable other than mfg defect was not going to be covered. and they did recall work on the occupant restraint control module while i was there. honda and others warranty safety components forever.

Seat belt fails to retract rendering it useless. the plastic cover on the loop at the b pillar has cracked and binds on the seat belt strap. the part is not replaceable without replacing the entire assembly. this has affected both front seat belts. the vehicle has not been in any accidents or incidents which have stressed the seat belts.

Driver's side seat belt non-functional and will not retract. front passenger's side seat belt is starting to show similar issues. driver's side plastic piece cracked/broken worse than passenger's side up near where seatbelt goes into pillar. vehicle was stationary when driver's side seatbelt failed.

We took the vehicle in for a recall on the transmission electronic shift lever. we ask the technician to check the front passenger seat belt, as it had locked. we have owned the vehicle for three years and it has just a little over 25,000 miles. the technician indicated the seat belt retractor was working and would need to be replaced. this is a significant safety mechanism that i feel failed in a short period of time and therefore must have had a defect. jeep sells the idea of the safety rating of it's vehicle but for a seat belt to fail in a three year period of limited use is placing the consumer at risk.

My 2014 jeep grand cherokee driver's side seatbelt broke while putting it on prior to starting the vehicle and leaving my residence . the seatbelt is back ordered nationwide and there are no "after-market" parts. this is currently not listed as a recalled part. i am currently without a functional seatbelt. the broken part is the plastic piece that the seatbelt feeds through at the top and it was located inside of the seatbelt housing.the crack caused the plastic piece to rest on the seatbelt to where it was unable to retract. the seatbelt has since replaced by an authorized dealer. i was told that the part would take anywhere from a week to several months to arrive. *tt updated 9/24/18*jb *dt*jb

Both front seat belts are broken, they will not retract

For both the driver and passenger front seatbelts, the upper hanging (belt) bracket which attaches to the height adjustment feature has cracked. the driver side is more severe than the passenger side, rendering it useless as it prevents the belt from properly tensioning/retracting. this issue was noticed last week during a trip to northern nevada area where temperatures were at a low of below zero degrees (f), and after driving on dirt roads (described by bureau of land management as roads accessible to passenger cars).

Takata recall: driver seat belt will not retract properly as it should, must be guided with hand to bring it back to original standing position. not covered by dealerships or extended bumper to bumper warranties.

I have 60k miles on my jeep, and no dealership will replace the plastic top loop part on the seat belt. both are cracked which causes my seat belt to not retract. the dealership and the maintenance both agree they have never seen anything like it. they stated i'm not covered by warranty and won't replace it. both front ones went out. jeep just lost a customer.

Chrysler will not cover a malfunction in their seat belts. they are directly responsible for seat belt not working and will not cover their parts under any warranties leaving me to drive around with a non-working seat belt. if the issue was because of my doing i would be more willing to pay to have it fixed - the problem is their plastics break without notice (picture attached). i have a barely 4 year old car and the seat belt is already broken and have gotten no help from any jeep dealership. i was under the assumption it was federal law to mandate a lifetime warranty on seat belts since it is a safety issue.

The seatbelt, after being pulled out for buckling, will not retract back into the holder.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the front passenger seat belt failed to retract properly when buckled to secure the passenger. the seat belt was loosely connected when locked into the buckle. the dealer (colonial south chrysler jeep and dodge, 42 state rd, dartmouth, ma 02747, (508) 984-1900) indicated that the vehicle would need to be scheduled for diagnostic testing and repair. the dealer and the manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 14v643000 (seat belts, air bags). the contact was uncertain if the vehicle would be repaired by a dealer. the failure mileage was not available.

The passenger side safety belt became jammed while driving. my passenger was trying to release the belt because it became painful. i had to pull the vehicle over and assist my (adult) passenger to try to get the safety belt released. once we were able to free the belt it would not retract back or latch properly. my passenger moved to the back seat to use the safety belt for the remainder of the drive. this jeep has also completely saturated me with gasoline and shut down a service station. the gasoline soaked my hair, face, and body. as a result through the state of vermont i received an extended warranty from mopar to relieve any concerns i may have about safety of the vehicle once the fuel system was replaced. chrysler and mopar have charged me 100.00 deductible to repair a faulty safety belt. it should be mandatory that chrysler repair the safety belt at no charge. not only did it put my passenger in jeopardy, how effective are the belts in my vehicle if one is already broken after only 3.5 years. the dealership refused to show me how much the repair cost. i am opening a case with the bbb in addition to filing this safety report. my passenger's shoulder and neck were sore as a result of this incident but no serious medical situation occurred. it could have resulted in a fatality if an accident were to occur.

Driver seatbelt does not retract to tighten on driver while driving or stationary. serious safety issue! additionally, none of the controls on the right side of the steering wheel work ever; cruise control, park assist, lane departure warning, etc.

Front seat belt does not retract due to a cracked plastic guide located at the top of the piller. this causes fraying of the belt and pinches the belt so it will not retract. this is a major safety issue as the belts are useless.

Made an appointment for the recall since i got the recall notice. appointment confirmation number #x03qbqoq38 with napleton chrysler in kissimmee, fl. they verified the part was in. showed up for appointment and after two hours, i got an oil change, tire rotation some updates and no safety recall. totally unacceptable that i had to take a day off work for a recall i have been waiting on since october and it did not happen. these recalls are just scams to get the owner to have other work done. i can't believe a national agency is involved with this type of scam. re: p67/nhtsa 14v-643. ...updated 08-06/15 *bf

My 2014 jeep grand cherokee has been at beaver county dodge chrysler jeep since 5/5/2015. it was taken in for stalling issue, odometer adding excess miles, touch screen radio going black, seat belts that do not tighten and other various recalls. my jeep has not left their parking lot since 5/8/2015 i called today 5/22/2015 and it is still not finished they stated. i have paid an entire month on my lease and i have not driven my vehicle. the service department has not made one attempt to fix my jeep and i am not sure when i will ever get it back at this point. the dealership and fca have been giving me the run around since august 2014 about fixing these problems that they state simply cannot be fixed at this time? i have been having these problems for 9 months now and the dealership and fca keep telling me that they have no resolution to my problems.
