Although a recall on the 160 amp alternator my 180 amp alternator failed exactly like the 160 - smoke and left me in traffic, failed while driving in houston traffic. there are hundreds of cases with the 180 online but fca will not do anything unless you say so. so for now $1995 out of my pocket. http://m.carcomplaints.com/jeep/grand_cherokee/2012/engine/engine.shtml next source http://www.carproblemzoo.com/jeep/grandcherokee/alternator-generator-regulator-problems.php

While driving on freeway, battery warning light lit up, followed by (incorrect) error messages on instrument cluster menu that driver seatbelt was unfastened. all electrical equipment in the vehicle ceased operation, including ac and stereo. i pulled off of freeway and opened hood to find the alternator smoking heavily. this was the exact same failure situation described in chrysler recall p60, but because my alternator was 180amp instead of 160amp, it was not covered by the p60 recall. the alternator had to be replaced. the alternator failure also resulted in a blown-out pcm, which had to be replaced. this is an extremely dangerous failure that could have caused a car fire, or traffic accident. chrysler recall p60 should include the 180amp alternators, as well, because they have the same fault and safety issues.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the alternator failed while driving 45 mph. in addition, the windshield wipers engaged independently, the lights on the instrument panel flashed and immediately became dim, and the engine stalled. the contact also noticed a burning rubber odor inside the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to hill view motorist chrysler dealer in luxor, pennsylvania (724-834-8440) where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed and caused the battery and power train control module to burn. the vehicle was repaired and the alternator, battery, and power train control module were replaced. the manufacturer stated that the alternator in the vehicle was one hundred eighty amps and was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was 62,407. updated 08/04/17*lj *js

180 amp alternator experienced catastrophic failure causing total loss of all power, battery failure, pcm failure and smoking and burning smell from engine compartment. experienced loud whinning from alternator while driving immediately prior to failure. ultimate failure occured as car pulled into parking spot. this is the same issue experienced by 160 amp alternator under recall. it is extremely dangerous and chrysler/jeep should be required to fix these issues.

Jeep stalls suddenly while driving with no indication other than the loss of power steering. this occurs repeatedly at different speeds ranging from 15 mph in the city to 60 mph on the highway. stalling has occurred when slowing down and also while turning.

I have a safety recall on my vehicle, regarding the wiring on the vanity lamp on visor. i contacted the dealer that i purchased it from and scheduled the 'warranty recall' appt to repair. when i arrived, they had me to leave the vehicle with them. i returned later that day to pick it up and was informed they didn't have part. i asked if they would contact me when they get it and they never did. it's been 4 months now. what do i do?

Have contacted dealer numerous times to address two recalls. they state still waiting for parts. have been waiting more than one year to have these recalls addressed.

Alternator failed with no warning lights. heavy smoke poured from engine bay. faulty alternator caused pcm failure. vehicle was in motion with no issue. stopped for gas. upon restart, vehicle had hard start and then began smoking.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 5 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to leith chrysler jeep in raleigh, north carolina where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed. the alternator was replaced. on another occasion, the vehicle would not start while stationary. the vehicle was towed to the dealer again where it was diagnosed that the alternator failed again. in addition, the brake booster and master cylinder were leaking brake fluid. the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 17v572000 (service brakes, hydraulic), but the dealer stated that the master cylinder failure was not covered under the recall. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and stated that the contact would have to pay for the master cylinder to be replaced. the failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

My alternator and then my ecu computer were damaged exactly in the same way that was described in the p60 recall. unfortunately i realized that my vin is not listed in the recall. how can i get reinbursed from the dealer all the expenses that i paid if my vin is not in the recall although it has the same damaged that is described in the p60 bulletin , please advise marcelo

Hello ! i was driving my jgc in the streets of santo domingo ,dominican republic. i was already in a tunel, 1 km long, in terrific trafic at 5 pm when the car suddenly almost stopped.the a/c stopped ,mil appeared and almost got impact behind! i push the pedal strong and exelerated.thanks god i live very closed.in the moment i stoped in front of my house the evic start blinking and in seconds everything stopped ! black out ! open the front cover i saw smoke from alternator space ! then i understood the alternator was dead and i reached the house by the last battery power ! so the battery was dead as well ! now i see in the recall system of chrysler there is a recall ( r60 ) touching exactly the alternator problem ( 2012-2014 jeep grand cherokee vehicles manufactured april 22, 2010, to january 2, 2014, and equipped with a 3.6l engine and a 160 amp alternator).my car is one of those cars but there is not a recall for it ! why ? the recall is from : recall announced october 08 2014 nhtsa reference #14v634000 chrysler recall : r60 can i get a recall so the dealer to replace my alternator for free?

While driving to work one day, i noticed a humming noise coming from the front of the vehicle, shortly before arriving at work the battery light came on so i dropped off the car at a local mechanic to have it looked at. they called me back to say the alternator had went out and would need replaced. after replacing the alternator, my jeep wasn't starting, so they had to replace the battery and explained the alternator had fried and took the battery out with it. once the battery was replaced, the jeep still wouldn't start and couldn't locate the keys (although it was physically in the ignition), they said my jeep would need to be towed to a jeep dealership to get the powertrain control module replaced because they couldn't program the replacement module. after getting it towed and having the powertrain control module replaced it is running fine again. in summary, the alternator went out and shorted both the battery and the powertrain control module in the process. in total nearly $1600 worth of parts and labor. a recall exists for several other jeep models due to this same issue, however my vehicle's vin isn't listed in the recall.

I took my car for three recalls one of them was the brake booster. they called me the other day to pick it up. i went and they told me everything is fixed. the problem wasn't fixed. i almost crashed 4 times and i had to call a tow truck. i called the dealer and they said if i want them to look at the car and find the problem they would charge me. i told him it's the brake booster and showed him a video to prove it. he declined to help me...updated 06/06/17 *bf *as

Vehicle is an overland model with 5.7 engine. as of 2-7-17 the vehicle has stalled on three separate occasions. all three incidents have been while making low speed turns. the engine just quits without sputtering or any type of warning. all dash lights remain on as if the vehicle were running. power steering goes out and loss of power brakes makes it dangerous in completing turns and then have to coast to a safe place. place car in park and car starts right up like nothing happened. the car has 57,000 miles on it and has no previous issues. i have not taken to dealer (yet) as it is no longer under warranty. i have seen other online posts from jeep owners with similar complaints and am wondering if this is a safety recall issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 25 mph, the battery warning indicator illuminated and the instrument panel lights flickered and then failed completely. the brake pedal failed to engage while being depressed. in order to stop the vehicle, the parking brake was engaged and, upon exiting the vehicle, the contact opened the hood and fire and smoke were seen coming from inside the alternator. the fire extinguished itself. the vehicle was towed to a dealer. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v634000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 50,000.

2012 jeep grand cherokee overland became possessed. while driving on the freeway, lights began flashing on dash, occasional lurches from transmission, one headlight goes out at night. when i pull over and turn the car off, it will not start. it was as though everything is dead. no response from any button on the key. after about 5 minutes, the headlights began flashing and horn bleating as though emergency. i pressed the "panic" button on the key fob and it stopped. car now started. i drove a few miles then everything began going crazy again. when i stopped, with car still running, windshield wipers began working as though on intermittent. then they began wiping fast. i tried turning the wipers on or off, to no avail. they were working with their own mind. dangerous! i had no idea, while driving on the freeway, if both headlights would suddenly go out (it was night while i was driving) instead of just one, transmission damage may occur (what was causing the lurching?). when i pulled over. *tr

I was driving down a busy road in our town today. the battery light came on. approximately 10 minutes later while still driving, the lights on dash started flashing on and off, seatbelt alarm started going off, windshield wipers started working without turning on. the radio turned off. i lost power steering. the vehicle shut off while still driving down the road. i had no power breaks--seemed to almost stop working. i was fortunate to get on side of road in grass to keep from getting hit by another car. if there had not been a grassy area there would have been an accident. the vehicle then was completely shut down--door locks would not work- tried to put key fob in ignition and could not get it back out--was unable to get back gate opened. i had to have car towed to dealership where i was told it was the alternator which in turned destroyed the gel type battery. i was also informed this was not covered under the alternator recall due to not matching my vin number. i was first quoted $2,000 to cover the damage. i am very upset due to the fact that there could have been a serious car accident today. i am thankful my child was not in the car with me. i think it is terrible that the recall does not include the alternator in this 2012 grand jeep cherokee when the description of what "could" happen did happen to me today. i feel that chrysler/jeep should cover this damage in the recall of the alternator. *tr

My power door locks stopped working. i made an appointment to have it repaired and the day i was going to drive my jgc to the dealer, all hell broke loose. park assist stopped working, anti skid and 4 wheel drive also indicated errors. but worse, i could not move the shifting arm out of park. i had to have it dragged out of my garage by a local towing service. the dealer said it was a faulty tipm and had to be replaced. once it is replaced, they can check on the power door lock issue. i've read the this is a pretty common problem for the 2012 jgc. in fact, it must be because the dealer said that he probably wouldn't be able to get a replacement part for at least a month. if this had happened on a recent trip to nyc, my family would have been stuck god knows where.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic), 15v115000 (electrical system), and 15v879000 (electrical system, interior lighting). the contact later found out that the repairs were not completed. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.

Took my 2012 jeep grand cherokee to arrigo chrysler dodge jeep for 2 recalls in september 2016 one wiring issue in the visor and one fuel pump relay. dealer informed me recalls were remedied. december 16, 2016 i was experiencing problems starting vehicle and problems with vehicle sputtering while driving and while stopped. took car back to arrigo to diagnose problem. was told problem was fuel pump relay at cost of approximately $650. expressed my concerns that although recalls were recorded as "performed" in their system, car was not properly repaired. service advisor told me there was nothing else wrong with my vehicle and the recall actually took place june 2015. that is incorrect as i called fca and they in fact verified that in their system, recall was entered as "completed" in september 2016 at same dealer, arrigo. called arrigo and service advisor said he re-checked the vehicle and the fuel pump relay was actually in good shape, it was serviced in september 2016. he said the reason the check engine light was on was because the software needed updated and the check engine light would be okay and the vehicle was performing "as it is designed to work" having no other problems. i hesitantly paid $75 to have the "software updated" to avoid the $150 diagnostic fee if there is no service. one hour after i paid and left the dealer the check engine light came on and the vehicle began acting exactly like it had before "servicing" at the dealer. also later in the evening i tried starting the car and noticed the car would continue to crank without turning the vehicle on. again, the same problem i had before i took my car in. i believe no action was taken in repairing recall issues and they are trying to make customers pay ($650 in my case) to actually make the repairs.
