My 2012 jeep grand cherokee has issues starting. push to start on key no longer works. push to start in the car takes several attempts. the issue seems to be getting worse. batteries have been replaced in keys. the issue persist when not using push to start and inserting key and cranking. it tries to crank, electronics flicker, then nothing. when i first noticed the issue the car would start typically on the second attempt. yesterday it took around ten attempts turning the key to get the car started.
I have had a problem with my car stalling randomly since the day i bought it brand new off the lot. i have been complaining to the dealership for 8 years now and they have never once offered to fix it. they kept telling me nothing was wrong with my car. the last time i took my car in for randomly stalling (while on the freeway), my warrenty has just expired and then they told me i had to replace my entire fuel pump system. now a few weeks ago i received a recall about my fuel pump system saying do not drive your vehicle beaucse its unsafe. the manufacture has told me they will not supply me with a rental car, public transportation pass nor will they reimburse me for rideshare services. i have had nothing be problem after problem with this car i bought brand new off the lot. now they are telling me not to drive it until its fixed but cant tell me when they can fix it. this is absurd. my dash board in my car also was defective (the leather covering it shrunk and peeled up). the manufacture told me it was "cosmetic" and they would not cover it so after years of complaining, i finally just paid for a whole new dash board myself out of my own pocket. now they just sent me a recall for this part and i've already paid for it. how can you help? (recall related incident) ts
While in motion, smoke started coming out of the front part of the roof inside the vehicle. after a couple of minutes, the passenger side visor began melting of its hinge until it fell off, then a flame began to come out of the hole where the sun visor is attached. this occurred even after visors were changed due to previous recall.*jb
The 2012 jeep grand cherokee overland i purchased two years ago has started to completely stall while driving causing the power steering to not function as well as the brakes. this engine power turns off randomly at around 10-15 mph (when making turns, stopping and/or accelerating) but there are no warning lights that appear on the dash. all electrical power to the car still functions and the engine stall is not noticeable until applying pressure to the brakes or trying to steer the wheels. the first incident was (easter) 28 april 2019. the car shut off around 10 miles per hour as i made a left turn crossing the incoming lane into a parking lot. luckily there was no car coming or a serious accident would have resulted. the frequency of these types of stalls have become greater. they are happening at least once a week without any type of warning. the most recent incident was november 7th 2019. this vehicle was released from the dealership on november 1st, 2019. the vehicle has been taken to the dealership multiple times to find the problem as well as maintenance. nothing has been found that would cause this. the dealership says the vehicle is perfectly fine. as simple test drive will not be able to find the problem.this is the same concern as fca recall t59 and nhtsa recall # 17v-572.
It was raining i had to start breaking was getting close to a red light, could not stop and crashed into another car and totaled mine and injured me.
Warning lights on dash randomly come on and off. back hatch randomly opens without activation. happens when vehicle is stationary and moving.
The catalytic converter went bad 6 months after i purchased the vehicle as i was driving on the hwy the check engine light came on i took it back to jeep they told me $2300 to fix it. and i had just purchased the vehicle 6 months prior
My engine light has decided to light up in my jeep randomly one day after starting it. after scanning it, it shows code p0522. the research i have done has shown it usually shows the oil light when it is that code. so as a result, i have had my oil changed again and i have ordered a oil pressure sensor/sender hoping that will fix all my problems which will be installed next sunday (7/7/2019). i also had to change the water pump because it had a crack in it, the thermostat just for precautionary measures, and the belt because it had a tear in it about half the size of the width. all of this to try to figure out the problem with the engine light and the scanner showing the code p0522. so we will see if that actually fixes the problem.
Engine recall for tipm
Starting issues, starts up and quickly cuts off. all lights and power are on. plenty of fuel in tank but not overfilled. i think it is the fuel injection area. i worry it will just cut off due to that while driving. this has happened at least 3 times in the past 3 weeks, it is becoming more frequent.
Takata recall while i'm driving the vehicle it will shut off. i will put it in park and it starts back up. this is unsafe because i can be driving in traffic or be in an intersection and it just shuts off. i've taken it to have a mechanic look for any readings and nothing is coming up. it also shuts off while trying to start the vehicle up for the first time. it takes several attempts, again nothing coming up when taken to the mechanic.this has been going on for almost a year.
Takata recall the airbag does not work got into an accident and airbag did not pop out. the light for the airbag comes on and off.
Car's tipm has been messing up. they say there hasn't been a recall on my model for that and another says it has been fixed. my car won't start at times, my horn honks at random times and just today my car stalled while on the interstate. i know the tipm had been a problem with these vehicles but i cant get any help with mine without paying out of pocket. i've about had it with my jeep.
Alternator failed due to recall. i was not notified of this until after having failed and needing to be towed after being stranded on the side of the road in the middle of the night. all the cars functions had completely failed. the car was unable to be moved to a safe place, doors were locked, leaving my dogs locked and gated into the cargo area until lowing assistance arrived. since the alternator was fixed i have had multiple visits to the dealership for replacement of battery, jeep failing two more times while driving down the road, needing additional towing assistance. multiple electrical malfunctions continue to occur, including: forward collision warning, "brake warning flashing for no apparent reason. the passenger side heat failed needing to be replaced. all of the seat heaters within the vehicle have failed needing to be replaced. most recently the drivers seat move forward function has stopped working, make the vehicle difficult and unsafe to drive as it is not at the appropriate drive distance. contact to dealer to discuss fixing issues as they are electrical and most likely due to recall of the alternator. jeep dealer declined that it was a related issue and that jeeps are known for these issues. car is felt to be unreliable and unsafe to continue to drive at this point with the unknown reasons and causes for the recurrent malfunctions.
Unknown cause of overheating. authorized service performed by dealer. upon initial diagnosis of vehicle no code was put out while simultaneously in active overheat mode. multiple investigations performed by service techs were performed.
Our 2012 jeep grand cherokee overland has started cutting off while in drive, without warning. there are no indicator lights on and the radio continues to play as normal. the only way you know the vehicle is off is by looking at the rpm display now at zero or because you can no longer use the power steering. after putting the vehicle in park and re-pushing the start button, the vehicle starts up as normal. this issue has happened on five (5) occasions and is the scariest thing ever!! after the first time this happened, we took the vehicle to the dealership to be told there weren't any codes coming up to signify that there was a problem with the vehicle and a tune up was suggested. we went months without the issue occurring, but it has started happening again. we've encountered this issue on city streets and once while taking the off ramp on the highway.
4 times in the last 3 weeks, the last time just today, as i was decelerating and turning right while getting off highways onto exit ramps, the steering wheel felt like it locked - the power steering turned off, as did the power brakes - i had to coast, and the rpms showed 0, although all the lights were still on. i was forced to put the car in park - while still on the exit ramp - turn off the car and turn it on again to get it to drive normally. which it did, as if nothing had happened. but it's unnerving and certainly unsafe, and a quick search on the internet reveals it seems to happen quite frequently to other jeep grand cherokee 2012 drivers.
1. jeep dies for no reason when decelerating it happens at highway speeds when taking the foot of the gas it last happened on highway 1 on a big curve, steering and brakes lost power on a cliff side road.(scared me and the family 1/2 to death) it has happened on the dumbarton bridge in commute traffic it also happens when decelerating on off ramps or coasting to stop lights. you need to completely stop the car put it in park and press on the brake to restart it. this in traffic is also dangerous jeep says 10 things may cause it and they will not fix try any of then because they cannot pinpoint which one it is. 2. cruise control slams on the breaks for no reason. another dangerous problem no cars in front of me, open highway, no overhead bridges or guard rails in sight and the brakes slam on.
Dashboard delaminating, leather seat ripping under normal ware with lots of maintenance. the leather used in the dashboard is separating from the dashboard itself and causing a wrinkle effect, where as the leather seat just ripped even though its cleaned and conditioned at least 4 times a year
Starter turns over but wont crank and leaves me stranded. horn goes off at random times. windows and door locks sometimes wont work. google says its the tipm. happens while vehicle is moving and non moving. has happend multiple times.
A ticking noise coming from the engine area. when accelerating the ticking gets louder. had noise checked by mechanic and it was the lifter and rocker arm. had some replaced, this would be the third time. i have a 3.7 engine v6 grand cherokee and found that dodge has a recall for the charger, which is the same company.
Fuel pump, recall done but not effective. almost three times a week, the jeep grand cherokee does not start or stalls right after starting. this is when i am parked and will just keep cranking and not start. the dealer wants to charge me to replace the fuel pump and does not acknowledge the recall is faulty. driving on the highway, the car stalled on me for no reason and then took 5 minutes of cranking to finally start again. luckily i was not in the middle lane on i95. at first it happened once or twice a week, now it is almost everyday.
The automatic charging system light came on 2 hours into driving north on the highway to wisconsin from chicago. there was no human action that correlated with the light coming on. it simply came on when going consistent speed on the highway in no traffic. i learned from the driver's manual that this most likely meant that the alternator had failed and i needed to get assistance immediately. i took the car into a repair shop on a thursday where it would remain for 10 days as things began to unfold. the employees of the repair shop could identify no fault in the alternator after thorough inspection and driving tests. the warning light had turned off. however, after it had been cleared of all inspection and turned on, there was an enormous failure in the car causing it to smoke. without warning, the alternator caused such a massive short that it not only failed itself, but also broke the car's engine computer. i come to find out that there was a recall by chrysler (t36) for this specific issue and included 2012 jeep grand cherokee's. i was never made aware of this recall but there is no question that this failure is specific to the manufacturing errors by chrysler jeep. there have been a total of 10 recalls on the 2012 jeep grand cherokee, 3 of which have been specific to this vehicle, and clearly, now a 4th. this could have been a been an incredibly dangerous situation and the failure by chrysler to notify me or include my vehicle in their recall is preposterous. i have documentation regarding repair and claims attached. more info and claim documents available upon request.
At 150,000 miles, developed a leak in the combination a/c condenser/transmission cooler unit. the dealer says this is essential to the transmission but not considered as part of the drivetrain. this defect seems to be very common with the wk2 model jeep grand cherokee beginning in 2011 through the present. there should be a recall to correct this design defect
The car started overheating randomly while driving on the highway. pulled off, and the radiator hose was leaking, and the battery light turned on, in the vehicle. the car was leaking fluid, believe it to be radiator, and ac fluid. took the jeep into the mechanic to verify the issue, and figure out what was going on. shortly before taking the jeep to the mechanic, while driving, the service 4wd light appeared, and then the red lightning bolt turned appeared as well, on the dash as well. not sure what is going on with it now.
Wind shield wipers, over drive light and head lights on and can not turn off. signal lights and interior lights not working.
The metal bezel on cup holder trim peels and causes cuts on hand and fingers. its the center console shifter bezel trim with lightening assembly. this has been going on for about a month now.(65k miles) i've cut my hand multiple times. i believe its the hot/cold that causes to peel. poor craftsmanship. 2012 jeep grand cherokee laredo.apparently on jeep forums there are plenty of complaints there about this. i'm not the only one.
Over the last year i have had my jeep grand cherokee in for service with the dealership i purchased it from for various things from standard oil change/tire rotation to a very serious issue that involved the jeep shutting down or stalling while braking. this happens are various time for reasons that no one can seem to resolve. the dealership service department has not made one repair to the vehicle each time i bring it in because it does not show a code & they cannot recreate the problem, so they give me nonsense reason for it happening, the latest being short a quart of oil. well needless to say, they topped off the oil & guess what, the jeep stalled the next day while exiting the freeway. i cannot express enough how scary it is to be driving and have your vehicle shut down as you have no idea it has done this until you try to steer as you no longer have power steering. lights are still on; radio is still playing but you have no power to your driving abilities. i have expressed to the service department with 2 service technicians (nick & jim) and the service manager (ken) and nothing has been done. i have shared with them the reviews and possible fixes i have found online but they refuse to even look at those items because there is no code indicating that is the problem. i have a car payment for a vehicle that i don't feel safe driving because i don't know when it might shut down again & no one at ewald chrysler jeep dodge ram franklin will do anything to help me.
Thermostat housing needed to be replaced because check engine light on03
Coolant on jeep went to 245 red light went on.white smoke with bad smell out of the exhaust and no heat.burning smell outside of car..took the car to petboys. they filled it with antifreeze and said it could be the head gasket ..took it to jeep dealer ran test said it was fine...4 days later went to 245 again burning smell and white smoke out of exhaust.. filled it with antifreeze again.drove on highway and local streets...i'm afraid the jeep will go on fire..please help, me..thank you
Takata recall . carbon fiber trim on the interior has peeled off.
The vehicle turns off while driving at high rate of speed. the first time it happened my wife and 2 year old daughter were in the vehicle in traffic. brought in twice to the jeep service center and the could not duplicate. the vehicle just turns off randomly while driving. opened a case with fca jeep na and both the service center and fca have told me sorry about your luck we couldn't find anything wrong with it. i find it hard to believe that an auto maker would feel comfortable releasing this vehicle to a customer let alone having it on the road in general. i don't have anything to attach to the complaint because the vehicle is still at the jeep service center.
I recevid a recall in august of a alternator that would be replaced.. how extremely important to repair the vehicle to ensure your safety and your passengers. it still , hasnt been fixed. i call them , they hang up on me.

When car was purchased had an issue with stalling. brought it back to the dealership where they stated that since they could not get it to stall there was nothing they could do. recall on the fuel pump was supposed to fix the issue but in fact made it worse and now being told its the tipm
Got a letter by mail in regards to a recall for my grand cherokee 2012 for a alternator diode thermal fatigue and sun visor wiring. on 9-14-17 took jeep in to dealership for recalls to be fixed. got jeep back on 9-15-17 but dealership informed me that battery was no good. dealership offer me a $300 battery which i decline because i know battery is not that expensive at other places. took new battery to dealership and replace it before i left the shop. at this time the service advisor from dealership did not gave me any explanation other than they don't have the recall alternator but they put a temporary one and gave me paper to sign. as i was driving home the battery light turn on. i thought that it was normal since i had just replace the battery. saturday morning when i got out from work, i was driving when the jeep stop completely on the road. the lights on the dashboard turn on and warm air came too. i had to call a family member to come and help me move car from the road. i called dealership to report the problem and i had to tow the jeep back to dealership. on 9-18-17 dealership called me to let me know that now the problem is the pcm module and that is going to cost me about$900 to fix it. i feel that the reason why my battery and pcm module are not working is because of the problem with the alternator. i feel that the manufactures are responsible to fix everything that is wrong with the jeep. right now i have no vehicle to move and not knowing when the recalls are coming in because there's poor communication with customers. i had to town my jeep back home because i can't afford fixing the vehicle when i feel is the manufacturer responsibility to take care of the problems. it's been a week since i drove the jeep and got it back not drivable. the dealership ipac in san antonio has a very poor customer service and would never go back for any service.
My car turns off while driving differnt times of the day could be in the morning or could be during the day. it just shuts off with no sign the lights are on in the front the radio is still on its happened several times. some times does not want to start randomly... this is my 3rd time taking it into the dealer with this same issue and they keep saying nothing is wrong with it. this last time i was on the freeway and it just shut off. i just want them to repair it. the fist time i took it in i want to say i was under the warranty miles around 34 or 36000 i am going to confirm with the dealer.
While driving the the interstate my battery light went on a few minutes later an image of a lightning bolt hit the battery and i lost complete power. took it to the jeep dealership took over a week to tell me its the pcm and that it had nothing to do with the alternator. today i can pick up the car. they dated that i can pick up the car and then they told me my battery is very very week . they also assured me that one things has nothing to do with the other which is total bull,.
Heard a loud 'bang' under the hood while cruising @ 72mph on a new hampshire inter-state. immediately lost control and crashed into a guard rail, bounced back into the highway, hit the guard rail again and wound up backward into the guard rail. some witnesses stated that they saw fire and smoke under the front of the vehicle. *bf *tr
We have had this jeep grand cheroke service three times and before having it service, the car has cut off while driving on the highway without warning.
Water entering vehicle and collecting in the storage by the garage door opener control. now also have a mildew problem. scared of electrical shock and inhaling dangerous mold.
I went to push the brake pedal and pedal is stiff and will not push down. jeep doesn't want to stop. almost crashed into car in front of me. i have had no brake work at all.
Leather dash cover peeling up, bubbles lifting heater vents covers and trim. affects vision. failure started 5/2017
My alternator and then my ecu computer were damaged exactly in the same way that was described in the p60 recall. unfortunately i realized that my vin is not listed in the recall. how can i get reinbursed from the dealer all the expenses that i paid if my vin is not in the recall although it has the same damaged that is described in the p60 bulletin , please advise marcelo
Takata recall leather on the dashboard comes loose, i've taken it to jeep to repair and it happend again. the adhesive dissolves and makes the leather bunch up. the front left headlight blinks for a few seconds every time engine starts. engine stalls and doesn't start at times.
Back latch messed up would shut costed me 400$.
Leather dash coming up and forcing plastic heater covers to come into sight of view while driving, all carbon fiber trim around dash and all doors is not sticking and has cut, poked and injured other and myself. some of the trim is vary pointy and really sharp and if does not stay down makes a risk of impaling someone, poking out an eye or worse. was told a recall was on it and already performed, but clearly was not fixed even after recall. dealership wants to charge alot of money to repair since they say it was already in for the same recall.
Vehicle stalled twice while driving. once while turning left on a city street and once while breaking hard to stop at a stop light. dealership cannot find a cause and cannot duplicate the problem while in their possession. jeep customer service says it is a known issue with no known cause. all recalls are up to date.
The chrome tape in the cupholders comes up and cuts like a razor.
The leather dash shows bubbles and waves from the leather delaminating. it has completely pulled away from the window. concerns me that it is over the passenger side airbag- will this affect deployment?
