Problems with 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 65 932 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Vehicle is experiencing a no start condition due to the fuel pump relay failing. this is happening more and more resulting in dangerous conditions especially in freezing temperatures.

I was driving my 2011 jeep grand cherokee down a city street when with out any warning the vehicle completely cut off. i could not control the vehicle at all not even honk the horn to let other driver know something is wrong with my vehicle. when i took it to get fixed the dealership said i need a new totally intergrated power module

Vehicle constantly stalls. recall was performed for the fuel pump relay however this did not completely solve the problem as it still stalls randomly or won't start at all. huge safety concern have been almost hit on the road from random stalls. took it to my local mechanics and they say the fuel pump relay is burning out the fuses and i need to constantly check on them to make sure they're not burnt out. took it to brookdale chrysler jeep dodge after recall was performed to complain about it still stalling years ago. brookdale chrysler refused to perform any service as they could not 'duplicate' the issue. ever since then i've been dealing with this issue and it's horrifying to drive the vehicle sometimes and incredibly disappointed as i'm still paying off this vehicle. randomly stalls on turns, city roads, highway speeds, or even when in idle.

On several occasions, my jeep grand cherokee ltd, has started to stall out when i am accelerating forward. it was in motion when this happened, and has shown a zigzag icon, on my screen,( which i am not sure of the meaning of that icon). but i do know if feels as though it is a fuel failure, problem. this has been on city streets, and when coming out of a turn on acceleration. it almost has come to a stall, on all occasions. this has happened without notice, on at least, half a dozen times. it is scary as i sometimes need to have more power, than i am getting when it stalls. it has enough hesitation, to cause me to be in danger at times. i am trying to get an appt at jim smolich motors, in bend oregon, to have it checked out, but i did notice a recall notice, that is dealing with this issue, and that is what i believe this is. please reply and set up an appt. with the above jeep dealer if you can. thank you. While driving car would stall. i am afraid that i will get hit from behind due to this problem. i was notified that it's a new recall., and needs immediate attention. nobody needs to get hurt due to lack of attention to this problem. the part should be out and ready to be replaced. this is a big safety issue and again, needs immediate attention. this happens unannounced..while driving, turning ect. i'm scared..and was told not sure when part will be coming in possibly mid january! that's crazy! i might have gotten this part replaced in the past not sure..will try and find out from the mechanic. but it happened ed again about 2 weeks ago. please advise. thank you

On an intermittent basis i have experienced problems starting my jeep. then, on december 25, 2019, i receive the v62 fuel pump relay recall for my jeep, which provides as follows:*dt our records indicate that your vehicle [1] was included in previous safety recall p54 (nhtsa 14v-530) or safety recall r09 (nhtsa 15v-115). the remedy for the previous recalls was to replace the fuel pump relay. if you had either of these recalls completed, the installed remedy relay is susceptible to silicon contamination on the relay contacts, which can cause the relay to fail. a fuel pump relay failure can result in a no-start condition or an engine stall condition if the vehicle is running. a vehicle engine stall while driving can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. ['] the remedy for this condition is not currently available. this was of great concern. in the 1980s i was driving on the congested freeways of la when my bmw suddenly just turned off. i barely managed to coast to the breakdown lane without being rear ended. i was in terror as i had just been rear-ended a year prior while at a complete stop on the freeway. to this day i have pain in my shoulder, and two pinched nerves in my neck. so, i called the fca recall assistance center service number. given that there is currently no remedy, and that 'vehicle engine stall while driving can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning', i was going to ask for a rental vehicle. however, the service agent insisted that i first had to take my jeep to my local dealer to diagnose and confirm the existence of a problem. that is patently ridiculous as the problem can not exist and then, according to the recall notice, arise for the first time and 'cause a vehicle crash without prior warning'. in fact, that first time could be on the way to my local dealer. *dt *jb (recall related incident) ts

I previously reported that this 2011 jeep grand cherokee (3.6 pentastar engine) stalls without warning. the vehicle has stalled at least twice in august, numerous times in september, and already twice this month (october). what is more concerning is there is no check engine light the warns of the pending stall condition. also, i have had the thermostat, lifters, tappets, rocker arms, cylinder head, spark plugs, and ignition coils replaced and problem seems to be getting worse. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (koons tysons corner). the dealer cannot read any active or stored codes for the stalling issue. additionally, the shop foreman advised that it appeared to be the fuel pump. i ordered the $540.00 fuel pump and had replaced on monday october 7, 2019 for an additional $630.00. ironically enough, the vehicle stalled going home and the fuel pump repair did not fix the issue. the mechanic and service advisor now say that i should replace the pcm and then the tipum if all else fails. this is an additional $3,000.00 in estimated service that they cannot guarantee that will fix the issue. the most concerning thing is that chrysler will not be held accountable for this. i have also filed a complaint with fca, whom initially just closed the case. i then filed another one today and requested to speak with a case manager, which is pending (no faith at this point). it should also be noted that fca is aware of this issue as addressed in the recall: chrysler is recalling 188,723 2011 dodge durango and jeep grand cherokee suvs in the u.s. because of a defective fuel-pump relay inside the power module that can cause the vehicles to "stall without warning."

While driving 2011 jeep grand cherokee with children in car, the jeep just stalls out on me and i lose control of the steering. it has happened most times when i am making left and right turns.

3 times in the last 9 months this car has stalled while braking causing me to lose power steering and almost causing a crash on one occasion. luckily the first time i was on a straight road but the last two times happened 9/26/19 where i had to brake while turning and on this occasion i almost crashed the car into a median. each time i've taken the car to the jeep dealer soon after for an inspection and each time i'm told there is nothing wrong with the car, no diagnostic codes are visible and their road tests do not reproduce the issue. the first time this happened to me, the dealer did however replace the fuel pump relay (i think as part of some recall) but did not indicate this was the specific reason for my car stalling. this repair seemed to solve the issue until 9/26/19 when it happened twice consecutively. i fear this is related to the countless other complaints online about this year and model. i asked the dealer if it's perhaps related to all the tipm issues i've read about with this year and model and they said without a diagnostic codes or without reproducing the issue there is no way to tell. i'm told there is nothing wrong with this car. how can that be when i've lost control of it 3 times in the last 9 months and almost crashed it once? i fear that this car is unreliable and may kill me or someone else but i'm being told it's fine. i'd really love someone to look into this or give me guidance.

The fuel pump relay is defective. this has already been recalled but the patch "fix" jeep does does not solve the problem completely and they know this. there is an issue with the computer which does not send correct signal to fuel pump. on start car will not start often because it is not receiving any fuel. i am afraid this cheap "fix" jeep came up with will cause the fuel to go out while driving. the biggest defect with the car is the v-8 hemi cam shaft and lifters. every mechanic i have taken my car too has said that jeep knows it is a problem but will not fix. i was driving 70 mph when my jeep lost power and the check engine light came on and started flashing which with the loss of power cause me to just about have a wreck on the highway. it was a very scary scenario. i took it to my trusted mechanic who foudn a cylinder 2 misfire & performed a tune up and he said i needed to report the problem to jeep as they are known to have sever problems. the dealer charged me to "diganose" the problem and reported back that the lifters and cam shaft need to be replaced. this has been such a bad problem for jeep the lifters have been on back order multiple times but they will not admit it is a problem. my car has less than 100,000 miles and has been meticulously maintained and now lookin g at rebuilding an engine and jeep will only provide 2 year warranty or the work, which shows they have no trust in the fix and there is a fatal flaw with the v-8 hemi. please force jeep to honor their customers and correct the known mistakes with their engines.

Crank won't start when finanly start put in gear dies out. this is done intermintly.. on the street

Car has issue starting just keeps turning over, also acts like it wants to stall out while driving.

Stalls at normal operating speeds without warning. very dangerous! has happend multiple times!!!

Fuel pump relay recall- i purchased the used car in may 2018, nothing about the recalls was disclose. recently the car has been shut down or rumbling as i'm driving. thankfully i'm driving in the city and i can pull to the side. every time i shake the fuel pump relay 'repair' it starts up strong again. i tried taking into the dealership where it was fixed but they said they can't do anything cause they already fix the problem. the problem wasn't fixed. it was cheaply fixed.

P54 / nhtsa 14v-530 was addressed back in 2014 however i still experience intermittent stalling during start up or braking. issue typically happens in colder weather. dealer says nothing is wrong but symptoms are identical to issues listed in p54 / nhtsa 14v-530.

The push start won't start the vehicle and vehicle stalls. i brought it to firestone and they said it was the fuel pump and gave me a quote of the cost to fix it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while approaching a stop sign, the steering wheel became difficult to turn and the brake pedal was difficult to depress. in addition, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal to the floorboard, but the vehicle seized and the engine shut off. the contact stated that all the indicators were illuminated on the instrument panel, but the vehicle failed to restart. the vehicle was placed into park and the vehicle started when the push start button was depressed. the vehicle was taken to lithia chrysler jeep of reno (located at 3223 mill st, reno, nv 89502) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump relay needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 102,544. *tr*jb

While accelerating to merge onto the highway, the check engine light came on and i could not accelerate above approximately 45 mph or 3000 rpms. i let off the gas thinking the jeep would slow, but it didn't slow down. i was able to decelerate by braking (obviously). however, i was still unable to go faster than approximately 45 mph or 3000 rpms. i took it into the shop twice before because the check engine light came on, and i was told the oil pump was stuck on low (?) this has been an ongoing issue for the past four months. there has always been something wrong with this vehicle despite regular service maintenance visits.

Cranks but will not start. after a few tries it will start. stalls while underway stopping at light. this has happened on and off for about 2 months. the latest was this morning.

Three instances where two stationary and one in motion full acceleration with out touching the gas pedal. the dealer told me that there was a transmission fluid leak. caused my transmission oil to burn which lead to a faulty transmission. pcim was flashed and caused transmission to decelerate at 40mph loosing all function.

Jeep was parked in driveway. went to start up and jeep intermittently starts & then cuts off or will not start at all. now being serviced at dealership. luckily, i was not driving on the highway at the time of the occurrence. however, had to have the vehicle towed to dealership. the symptoms appear to be the same as your fuel pump relay recall back in 2014 for 2011 jeep/grand cherokee. however, i have been the sole owner of this vehicle and never received a recall notification. is this still covered under the recall?

For the last several months my jeep will not start all the time. it has shut down twice in the middle of the road while i was in 45 and 60 miles a hour traffic.i was able to turn my wheel to get into the far right lane. it is very unsafe and jeep doesn't seen to care to correct the problem.

My vehicle is now regularly (at least once a week and at random) stalling while in motion when i begin to brake at any given speed. it cuts off in motion and loses all power steering; i literally have to muscle the car off the road (almost caused multiple accidents) and have to restart it. i have now been experiencing this problem for over a year. there was a prior recall for a fuel pump relay where random stalling can occur but that recall part has already been installed. i have taken to certified jeep dealership who has said there is nothing that can be done since they have not been able to recreate the issue. i just contacted the jeep corporate office as a last resort and they also said they can do nothing to help or give me any advice on how to correct issue (thanks for your concern...); instead they gave me a disclaimer that they would not be responsible. i cannot believe that a company would operate like this and offer no assistance or advice with a vehicle they built that is clearly malfunctioning and potentially causing an accident and/or injury.

The jeep is having trouble starting, the starter is running for several seconds but it wonts start until the second or third try. on several occasions the vehicle stall while running.

My vehicle have been shutting off on me numerous times while i'm driving mostly when i come off the highways few times when i first start it in the morning and recently it shut down and completely died and wouldn't start back up. the battery compartment was full of water and the fuel pump doesn't cut off. i had the alternator and battery replaced thinking that's why it died but it's still not running. i've only had this vehicle for a month.

Car doesn't start. it was jump started and still did not turn over. the radio, lights air doors all still work but the engine won't turn over. i saw there was a recall for this issue and the dealership stated that the issue was repaired back in 2014. why am i still having this problem?

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled in the middle of an intersection. the contact indicated that the failure occurred on a previous occasion. the vehicle was taken to napleton's river oaks chrysler dodge jeep ram (17225 torrence ave, lansing il) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump and fuel pump relay were faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and no assistance was offered. the contact was informed that the vehicle had been previously repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 14v530000 (electrical system). the contact indicated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 122,435.

When the right turn signal is on the fog lights flash and the turn signal does not blink. when i turn the fog light button on my turn signal lights up but does not blink. took it to the dealer and they said it was the tipm that was faulty. now after i got it back both front turn signals do not work and the back flashes fast and sometimes flashes normally. also back when i bought the car a year ago in june 2017 the car would start and i would let the engine warm up but about 20 seconds in, it would stall. when driving it would usually stall when i was breaking at stop lights and stop signs. i replaced the camshaft positioning sensor about 3 times so far and still feel the engine losing power at times.

My car does not start at least 10 times a week, i believe its due to a faulty fuel pump relay and my vin isnt part of the recall for this and it should be. ive read many other people complaining of the same exact issue and i took it to fairfield jeep where they told me one thing over the phone and then upon arrival it was something different and then the papers stated something else different!

Safety issue- fire/explosion: gasoline fumes outside of jeep at 63k miles. dealer completed smoke test and reported smoke emitted from top of gas tank indicates leak from one of several access ports (filler pipe access, fuel pump access). dealer cannot confirm without $1,600 fee to drop tank to confirm diagnosis. dealer felt leak due to faulty design/manufacture/assembly/installation of parts (o-rings/seals/etc.). i am original owner, retired,on fixed income and have completed all recalls and meticulously maintained vehicle. dealer suggested i call jeep corporate (800-992-1997) and ask for "goodwill" repair. after 17 phone calls to jeep corporate i continue to get: 1) no reply, 2) no callbacks 3) catch 22 stating i must pay for tank removal to confirm diagnosis, repair and determine if parts are defective. jeep corporate (kenisha -operator kb805) told me today (2-20-18) that decisions was made not to grant goodwill repair due to dealer report that leak probably (not confirmed) due to corrosion around access ports on top of gasoline and warranty has expired. leaks due to corrosion by "wear and tear" and not faulty design/ manufacture/assembly or installation at factory. i was told i was responsible for full cost of repair, irrespective of potential fires or explosions due to gasoline fumes emitting from corrosion on top of plastic gas talk. i disagree. the design (inaccessibility to top of gas tank0), parts (non-corrosive stainless steel metal retainers, and o-rings), and questionable assembly have resulted in this potential fire and explosion trap. with safety being in the name of nhtsa, i am hopeful investigation and recall address this issue. thank you

Safety recall p54/nhts 14v-530 the problem that i am having is the totally integrated power module tipm. it says that it has been repaired at the jeep dealership, however i am still having issues with this car shutting down in the middle of the highway or turning off the main roads and i am afraid i will get into a car accident.

Vehicle engine shuts off randomly while driving. this problem has happened multiple times. the engine is not running so there is no power steering or power brakes putting my wife, child, and others around them in danger when this happens. there are numerous and numerous amounts of complaints about this issue all over the web. chrysler has a recall fix for this issue but their fix is not working, as we have had this "fix" done twice, still having the stalling while driving issue. there are 188,000 other vehicles affected by this. these vehicles are a danger to everyone on the road.

Our 2011 jeep grand cherokee stalls without warning. the issue usually occurs when slowing down and turning to exit the highway. we have had all recalls taken care of, and have had the jeep in to the dealer several times for this issue with no resolution. the drivers ability to control the vehicle after the loss of power is significantly diminished. this has happened several times over the past year.

Safety complaint - fire/explosion: gasoline fumes outside of car and occasionally inside of car. jeep dealer states faulty design/manufacture/assembly of gas tank and/or parts resulted in o-ring failure causing engine light to go on with codes for evac failure. fumes at minimum when air temp below freezing as seals freeze shut and engine light stops going on. when air temperature is above freezing, fumes resume, engine light goes on with same evac codes and gasoline fumes can be detected outside and inside of car. jeep dealer stated parts are minimum costs but labor to remove/replace tank and parts - `$2,500. safety issue. called chrysler a dozen times and no follow up. case #s 32808988, 32840898, 33072326 filed, no follow up. requesting chrysler-jeep for "good will" repair or share cost repair for faulty manufacture leading to extreme safety issue. filed odi with nhtsa # 11048089 on 11/22/17 - spoke to dawn

Travelling 50-60 miles an hour then decelerating cause engine to stall/shut off making it a 3 ton problem.

Fuel tank fill line (neck) required replacement due to fuel vapor system leakage. this caused the check engine light to illuminate. dealer indicated no gross corrosion but some evidence of corrosion on the neck, and system identified loss of vapor recovery.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that there was a progressing fuel odor coming from the rear of the vehicle. the dealer (acton chrysler dodge jeep ram, 196 great rd, acton, ma 01720, (978) 263-7300) diagnosed that there was an internal leak on the top of the tank. the dealer stated that the o ring and retainer needed to be replaced. in addition, the vehicle was also inspected and diagnosed by an independent mechanic. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that they would follow-up to determine if they would provide a solution. the approximate failure mileage was 61,000. *bf *tr

When i went in to waconia jeep (905 strong dr, waconia, mn 55387) they told me i need a new fuel pump. did not do recall work. my call often stalled but i was able to get back to my home in colorado. dealers in denver metro area don't have any "openings" for 3 weeks.

Jeep gc2011 engine stalls while driving! current recall under chrysler #t36 and nhtsa #17v435 only covers year 2012-2014. chrysler needs to be notified to include year 2011. ongoing issues of staling and complaints for 2011 has been logged since 2012 and is a serious mechanical issue that should be under the recall. if anyone has experienced staling please document and send the complaint or if you know someone who has died from this please file to save others!

When i come to a stop/slow down the engine intermittently stalls - typically this is when i'm driving on city streets when i'm stopping. it has happened while turning both left and right, going up hill and down hill, and more often when the engine is cool. the fuel level can be full or low and it still happens. friday may 19, 2017 it happened four times in a 20 mile trip on roads with speed limits ranging from 30mph to 55mph, once at a stop light, once at a round about, once at a stop sign, and once at a left hand turn. p54 recall was already addressed.

While in motion put on turn signal and started turn and engine stopped cold. it could be started again after coming to a stop. during failure had no power steering or power brakes. has happened three times two while turning right once while turning left.

Beginning in august of 2016, the car will stall sporadically upon rapid deceleration. last time in march the car stalled when brakes were applied to avoid an accident on the freeway. dealer cannot recreate or diagnose the problem and returns the car 'operating as designed.' car has not been driven since. problem has occurred 10-12 times and more recently with greater frequency. rapid declaration usually occurs to avoid a problem, this is the worst time for the car to stall out.

I will be driving the jeep & it will stall just turn off lose power steering. it happened twice on freeway & 10 times on street. it stalls when am turning. i took it to chrysler jeep dealership in monrovia ca they did a diagnostic didn't find anything they kept it overnight drove it nothing they didn't fix anything & it keeps stalling. there was a recall for fuel pump relay i don't know if the work was really done since it keeps stalling. am afraid to drive the car on fwy only driving on street. afraid of it stalling again.

Vehicle while in motion , suddenly cuts off , no power , no brakes , dashboard lights all come on indicating all cautions i.e., engine light , airbags seat belts . radio goes out and comes back on. this happens while driving and once while backing out of a parking space.

Today, monday, march 6th, 2017; i was driving to work; a couple of miles from my house my vehicle stalled without warning. luckily for me, it was a low-speed area and i was able to stop on the side of the road. my truck did not turn on again despite several attempts. i called a tow and it took it to a shop. i left the truck the entire day. at the end of the day they gave it back to me saying it worked again and that apparently there was a mal-function with the relay system. they said the gas-pump was not working and suddenly when they were checking the tpim it worked by itself. they could only recommend to take it to the dealer for a more profound check. i recalled i got a carfax not so long ago and going back to it i found out about the tpim failures... this is a very serious issue and with a very high risk of serious injury to the vehicle occupants. i work in manufacturing supplying parts to different oem's and in the pfmea (potential failure mode and effects analysis) this would have a severity of 10!!! i will file all the complaints and will call the nhts to get my tpim replaced asap! i really hope they can make this quickly. if i can get another car i will do but i will not take my family on the truck for sure.

Camshaft lifters break and need to be replaced. cylinder 8 misfire when driving.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start without warning. the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 14v530000 (fuel system), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000.

Vehicle has shut off while driving a number of times. two incidents were while i was sitting idle at a stop light. two other incidents happened while in motion, slowing down, approaching a stop light or stop sign. there is a recall for a fuel pump relay describing similar situations but my vin shows no such recall.

My car has been in and out of the shop for the past year. two years ago my fuel pump went out and that was replaced at that time and was also a recall situation. since then the same fuel pump has been replaced 5 times and the same problem keeps occurring. my car will stall and not start. after the fifth fuel pump i called the company and opened a case and was told they couldn't duplicate the problem. two separate dealerships have looked at my vehicle and were unable to detect the problem. since then the same problem has happened twice and i can't seem to get any help. please help!

Vehicle stalled while driving on city street then locked up and wouldnt start or move from park, dash reading said it was in drive.
