Vehicle will not start and when it does start it will not stay on longer then 10 seconds. stalled out on highway and was left stranded until the following day. *tr
The alternator failed and the tipm also. there is no charging light in the dash so it was impossible to know there were a problem since the battery was dead and the engine stall. after that, there were no light, no power brake and the car won't start anymore. even after replacing the alternator ( which is cost 1000 each.) the alternator do not charge because the tipm failed too. overall, it cost 2200$ to repair and i lost my car for 4 weeks ! *tr
Vehicle began presenting with grinding noise upon start up (similar noise to turning the key in older vehicle once engine was running). brought to dealer's attention at time of service - dealer could not duplicate grinding noise. within a few weeks, vehicle began taking more than 1 attempt to turn engine over (sometimes up to 4-5 attempts), including prolonged engagement of starter motor. if multiple attempts, noticed rich fuel smell. mentioned to dealer at time of next scheduled service - dealer could not duplicate starting problems over the course of 2 days in their care. dealer said to wait for more frequent occurrences to begin then they would check again. starting issues were intermittent and continued to occur until last week, where after "hard start," vehicle engine stalled while in reverse pulling out of parking spot (<5 mph); however, power to lights and radio remained on; steering locked up, and had to push vehicle to safe spot. took 2 starts to get engine running again. next day, after 4 failed starting attempts (5th successful), had battery tested and replaced day after thinking it could be part of problem (starter and alternator tested fine). the day after battery replacement, vehicle produced what sounded like abnormal start, then engine stalled while in motion under 5 miles per hour. based on evidence and prior reports, faulty tipm is suspect. we are fortunate that both stalls occurred under 5 mph; it is only a matter of time before this happens at highway speeds. hoping the nhtsa will force chrysler's hand into opening formal investigation into faulty electrical systems in vehicles. *tr
I have tried to start my car several times with just continuous cranking. i called two different jeep dealerships and they said they have never heard of this issue before. yesterday, i was driving down the street at 55 mph with my 5 month old in the car after daycare- and my car just shut off while driving and i almost crashed into the person in front of me!!!! very scary. i had to swerve to miss the person in front of me because the brakes and car were not working- just completely shut off. i finally got it started again and got to a safe location. i then had it towed. i did some research to find that this is a very common issue with 2011 jeep grand cherokees and chrysler refuses to do a recall on this. are they insane?!!! we could have been in a serious accident. if the car is not under warranty- the price to fix the issue is $1300+. i just purchased this car in november of 2013 because i thought it would be safe for me and my new baby. now i have to dish out $1300 because of a faulty part that chrysler refuses to fix? they are very aware of the tipm not performing on these models- please research all the forums that talk about this. there is already lawsuits pending. please advise on what to do at this point. i do not have this kind of money to fix a car with 39000 miles on it. i will never purchase a jeep or chrysler again. *tr
This is the second time in six months that i have had a major problem with my key fob affecting my engine. i am afraid this may be an ignition switch problem but the dealer keeps telling me it's the key fob battery. the first time my car would not start and the engine was dead. they replaced both key fobs 6 months ago and told me they were defective. this time when i pushed the button the engine made a screeching rattling sound, the engine light came on and the car would not turn off. eventually it did and i tried it again and the same thing happened. the car was towed 30 miles to the dealer and they told me the key fob battery needed to be replaced. i asked the service technician if their computer showed that my engine light came on and he agreed but told me that they could not find the problem, other than the key fob battery. i told them both key fobs were new. i have only had this car for 3 years and it only has 11,605 miles on it. how on earth can a key fob cause engine problems? i may not be an expert on cars but i'm not stupid. i believe it may be something to do with the ignition. i hope jeep fixes this before there are any accidents or deaths. i now feel i am forced to purchase an extended warranty for over $2,100.00 because i'm afraid of what might happen when my factory warranty expires next month. i don't think i would ever buy a new car again. the old ones seem more reliable. i am afraid to drive this car now, knowing it has electrical issues that the dealer can't seem to find the reasons why. key fob battery? i find this very hard to accept. i would like the old key ignition - i don't trust these push button ignitions. my 2011 jeep is still at the dealer but they have told me it's ready for pick up. *tr
When started and shifted into "d" drive mode, car would self engage in manual gear "4" and then had no traction or acceleration, only reverse. transmission completely died and would automatically go into manual "4" gear itself when put into "d" drive mode from park or while driving on the road. very dangerous and very scary. had it towed to dealer who wanted $1,300 to repair faulty tipm module and would not cover under powertrain warranty. called chrysler and negotiated it down to $100. this should be a recall and is very dangerous because the car is putting itself into the wrong gear while moving and would not accelerate or move in drive mode. *tr
The vehicle stalls while driving. when this happens, it is very difficult to steer the vehicle safely out of harms way. i am in fear for the safety of myself and my family. i have had several close calls where we almost caused an accident. the fuel pump relay switch was replaced by recall and the vehicle is still stalling. i have contacted jeep customer care via email and by phone and they will not give me a case number. i take the vehicle to the dealer and they cannot find anything wrong with the car. i don't want to sell the car knowing whoever purchases it could be seriously injured or killed.

My wife has had 3 separate encounters where her 2011 jeep grand cherokee overland has randomly powered down, losing capability to operate the vehicle (no brakes/steering) while she was driving the vehicle. the first occasion happened in november of 2013, vehicle was stopped at an intersection and lost power. the vehicle was put into park and re-started with no further issue. we didn't report this incident. the second event happened on april 3, 2014, the vehicle lost power while my wife was driving at approx. 40 mph. again, when the vehicle came to a stop she put it into park and re-started the vehicle. we contacted the local chrysler dealership on april 7 and set up an appointment for april 12. the third event occurred this morning, april 10, 2014. the vehicle speed is difficult to determine but my wife was slowing down to make a left turn on a 50mph road. there were other vehicles in the area that could have caused serious accident, mainly a school bus with children on board. again, the vehicle had to be put into park and restarted. difficult to do on this busy road. i contacted the same dealership and explained to them what had happened. the dealership moved up my april 12 appointment to today. so far, the dealership has been accommodating. they plan to run diagnostics checks to determine cause of power failure. also, there are other electrical issues plaguing this vehicle (power door locks not working, drivers side seat heater not working, key not being detected). this vehicle has approx. 129,000 kms on the odometer and we bought it privately about 6 months ago (approx. 105,000 kms). i felt that i should report this issue given the recent attention to similar issues with general motors (ignition switch). if necessary, i can provide more details. *tr
This jeep engine failed / stalled while driving. this caused the vehicle to veer off the road twice on a turn, and almost cause two rear ends by failing in mid traffic, in four different occasions, since 2014. the vehicle engine cuts out, which causes the power steering and brakes to not function properly. the vehicle was in motion on various main streets, when this occurred. naperville jeep dealership (where this vehicle was purchased) has also maintained this vehicle per the maintenance schedule, has worked on this problem since it began. they have not been able to resolve the issue and returned the vehicle to us confident the problem was 'resolved' or non-existent. attached is the vehicle recall and replacement record. from online research it seems this has occurred to other jeep grand cherokees before and the typical solution is replacing the totally integrated power module (tipm). this vehicle's tipm was 'repaired' sept 3, 2014. below are the maintenance records related to this problem. 03/26/2014 mileage: 44,680 wro# 599705 11/25/2014 mileage: 51,329 cro# 615926 01/07/2016 mileage: 65,485 cro# 646292 06/10/2016 mileage: 69,938 cro# 658369 this vehicle is not safe and we have lost all trust and confidence in this vehicle.
Bought a used jeep grand cherokee 2011 w/ 19k miles on it (it was leased before). first incident happened with 30k miles on it. vehicle would turn over a little bit but would not start. dealership said fuel pump was bad, running after vehicle turned of then didn't get power when turning it on. dealership replaced fuel pump, went to pick it up from dealership and it wouldn't start. second trip (within 2-3 days) to dealership it started up. worked fine for about 4-5 weeks, then same incident occurred again. vehicle would turn over but not start up, sounded the exact same as the prior issue. dealership replaced the tipm, car worked fine for about 12 months. two weeks ago, the same issue came about. car turning over but not starting. this time the dealership replaced my key fob and it worked for 1 day, then the same issue occurred. now my jeep is sitting at another dealership and they have replaced the wiring to the fuel pump and now they are in the process of replacing another fuel pump. i heard today that they fuel pump is replaced but still not getting power to it (tipm problem again). chrysler wants me to pay a deductible for an obviously faulty part that they have replaced again. this last time when i brought my jeep to the dealer i tried to start the vehicle to let me father hear the noise it was making. a dealership service technician walked by hearing the noise it made and asked, "is it a 2011?", i replied, "yes", he followed up by saying that model and year has had a recurring problem with the tipm, which from what i have read online is extremely dangerous, especially if the car were moving and it went out. you would be left without power steering and brakes. chrysler has made a product that is faulty and realizes it, yet they still charge customers to replace the faulty parts. *tr
While driving in outerbanks, nc. the vehicle decided to shut the 4x4 system off and lower suspension completely, all while driving. my new born son, wife and 4yr old daughter in the vehicle and we are stranded. paid for towing and after towed the vehicle goes back to normal with no maintenance. upon returning home vehicle randomly shuts off while in motion, will not start or fuel pump randomly runs and now way to shut off. after some research i am finding this is a common problem with the tipm in these vehicles. you are not able to get the parts as they are on back order and nothing is being done to the manufacturer. who do we complain to if this happens while my children are in the car and there is an accident. this seems like this will be the only way something is going to be done about this issue. *tr

After much research, i have found that my tipm is bad. my vehicle started experiencing issues with starting and stalling in january of 2014 (@ just over 30k miles). initially i did not think much of the problem as it was in january and cold here in colorado. the problem mildly continued in feb and march... fast forward to july 2014 and the problem became more prevalent. i finally have an appointment with the local dealership to look at the problem (tomorrow - 28august2014). it is now a daily occurrence that my vehicle will not start without many attempts and once it does start, it stalls and the engine turns off. *tr

Just bought this vehicle from a used dealership, car won't start or it shakes when is trying to start, did some research on line, there's seems to be too many incidents on this suv models, we should have a national recall on this matter, the issue seems to be the tipm, i'm going to take it to the local jeep dealer to have check out. i am extremely worry that my car will die while i'm driving at a high speed and end up in a bad car crash because of this issue, please! please!! look it to this matter. On 10/18/13 i was traveling 40 mph on a main road and an f-250 pulled out into oncoming traffic from being stopped on a side road and we collided. both our vehicles had to be towed away. i hit his driver side area and my whole front end was smashed, bumper torn off, fluid leaking from the car. it was not drivable. i had my baby in the car seat in the back but he was fine. i was fine too aside from being sore for 3 weeks and getting whiplash but the main issue that concerns me is that my driver side airbag never went off. it seems to me it should have gone off and i'm wondering if something is faulty. we contacted chrysler and they were supposed to look at it while it was in the shop, didn't do that, now they want us to bring to dealership to have code read and in the meantime i'm still driving around in a potentially unsafe vehicle. and someone else out there with the same type of vehicle might be as well....... *tr
Tipm- i went to start my jeep this morning that felt like a weak start up, it then hiccuped and died. thinking it maybe just a one time incident, tried again, with the result of the starter just cranking for about 5-6 seconds. this repeated multiple more times before i called a tow truck to take to a local mechanic. it was diagnosed with bad fuel pumps, and the cost to replace was $1600. this prompted me to call the dealership and ask if that's even possible. after explaining the issue at hand, the service manager told me that he doesn't believe the issue to be caused by faulty pumps, but from the tipm. this is obviously not the first time he has heard of this issue. i then did some research on the web and found this to be a pretty prevalent issue amongst owners of this year, make, and model. when i called him back to see if the backorder issues were true, he told me it would take around three weeks to get the part. i immediately asked for the jeep corporate number, called them, and began to speak to a guy about it there. he told me that the production rate was one per 7 days... and that coupled with there are tons of these cases out there is why it was going to take a while to get the part. he went on to tell me that sounds crazy, but its just how fast, (or slow) they are producing them. i asked if the new product was a replica of the original and he said this is a solution for the previous one and would fix the problem, not just a bandaid. he advised me to have it fixed and hope the recall comes and i would be eligible for a reimbursement. with the price of this fix being so high and the amount of people affected, this has to be recalled. please have anyone having this issue file a complaint here. this customer service rep told me there just hasn't been enough formal complaints about it to validate a recall.... *tr

Vehicle power shuts down while driving at highway speed, in any and all driving conditions. no power steering, no power brakes, no power, nothing. there is no warning when power goes out. driver can be stranded in middle of freeway, or off-ramp, or busy intersection. extremely dangerous. worse than gm issue. vehicle cannot be restarted without shifting into park. 2011 jeep stall on 70mph freeway requires driver to shift into park before a re-start can be attempted (neutral will not allow rolling start). extreme danger of high-speed rear end collision. well documented issue on web 2011 jeep grand cherokee tipm. recall is needed for this safety critical item. http://gotaclassaction.com/chrysler-investigated-over-defective-totally-integrated-power-module-tipm-in-2011-2012-jeep-grand-cherokees-and-dodge-durangos/ *tr

Our 2011 jeep grand cherokee would not start. plenty of crank but no start. had vehicle towed to nearest dealer but there were no diagnostic codes set in the computer and the techs could not find any problems. the vehicle started every time for three days. this problem has plagued us on two more occassions during the fall of 2013 (again, no issues found) and has raised its ugly head in may of 2014. my complaint; jeep dealerships cannot find the problem ,however, a simple search of the web produces volumes of "no start" testimonials from other victims as well. thank you, [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *js
My 2011 overland began hesitating while driving on friday 9/6. was able to return home safely. turned off the engine and then was unable to restart the vehicle. had the vehicle taken to a local dealership and was told that the tipm module had failed which chrysler is aware of the faulty part and has already changed manufacturers. i was told due to a back order the dealerships are limited to ordering only one module per week and therefore no eta could be given for my vehicle's repairs. i called the chrysler corporate offices and was told that they would attempt to expedite the part and i could rent a car and submit my bill for "possible" reimbursement. this is a failure on a number of levels that a company that is now flush with cash again due to a gov't bailout has the parts to crank out new vehicles but will leave paying customers with no information other than to "be patient". i will not attempt to buy american again. back to acura i go! *tr
2 weeks ago my car would not start, did get it started, took to dealer ship. its apparently the timp module. this part is on back order i was told it would be in this week its not and they are not sure. it take a few tries to get it started. and twice it stalled while driving. and its making a knocking. may i add this started at 36600. miles. *tr

Started having problems starting my jeep on august 13th 2013. i travel to all parts of the city and in some cases find myself in areas that you would most certainly not want to be stranded...by the end of the day, i found myself in a bad part of town and the vehicle would not turn over...took about 25 minutes to final start and i got it home. the next morning, the same problem. when i finally got it started, i took it directly to the dealership....there it has been for almost 4 weeks w/ no real solution in sight..i am told it may be the tipm??? and that this part may not even be available through a 2nd or 3rd party manufacturer that may be going out of business?? where does chryseler stand on this??? sounds like this is a hugfe issue that is cropping up and nobody has any answers for the how many thousands of consumers w/ the same issue?? i pray it doesn't put someone in a compromising position wherein they are injured by circumstance through this issue or stranded w/ a health condition that leads to something more???
Multiple issues. it began with the key less remote entry not working properly, not opening or locking the car. i then began to notice the car would unlock itself overnight (luckily it is kept in a garage). moving forward, when i would put the key in the ignition, the car would start, i would then put the car in reverse, and it would immediately shut off, all power gone. i would have to slam the car into park and try again. most recently, i will put the key in the ignition and turn the car on, unfortunately, the car never turns on, it idles in the ignition phase just before it turns on. *tr
The vehicle stalled while driving on ny highway going approximately 45 mph. i panicked since i had my kids in the vehicle. but the worst thing is that it took me around 30 minutes to start the vehicle after the fact. we were stuck in the middle of the highway blocking traffic. ever since then, i have been having issues with starting engine. it will take me about 15-30 minutes to start this, took the vehicle to a dealership and i was advised that the battery was bad. we have owned other brands but, this is mere 3 year old vehicle! replaced the battery but, was having same issues for about a month. i was hoping it will go away until a couple of days ago i was unsuccessful in starting the engine! i had to miss work and have the vehicle towed to a dealership. as soon as i described the issues, a service manager told me that its "tipm" and they are back ordered for 5-6 weeks. i just can not afford to commute without a vehicle and certainly do not want repeat with my family in the vehicle. i am still waiting to hear back from the dealership. did chrysler recall 2011 grand cherokee 4x4? i have 6 more months until the lease ends and don't know what to do. i certainly wouldn't want to pay for anything on the vehicle since this is manufacturer's problems. please advise *js
Jeep grand cherokee started having a slight miss in early july. then jeep would not start. waited 2 minutes then jeep started. had jeep serviced including new spark plugs from chrysler. still had miss at idle. drove jeep from northern california to southern california. still had miss. sitting in heavy traffic jeep stalled and caused a traffic backup. waited for a couple of minutes then jeep started.took jeep to the jeep dealer in aug. dealer did software upgrade. still had rough idle and hard to start. took jeep in again. they said to order a tipm. dealer said it would be at least several weeks to get the part and to park the jeep due to the stalling out situation. wrote an email to the jeep ceo. jeep responded. the tipm was replaced in early sept. stalling is gone but the rough idle is now back. this issues could be very dangerous. considering how jeeps are used (off road, long trips) one could easily be stranded or worse. given the number of complaints and the long period of time to get a part it would seem like a recall is in order. it appears that the part is no longer manufactured due to a bankruptcy of the oem. there are thousands of us having this problem and we need help! *tr
Went to start my jeep after it sat for a few hours and noticed extended cranking. it did fire up and i drove 65 miles to the gym. same extended cranking issue when i got out the gym an hour later, but eventually, started and i made it home. did this one more time few days later and the first monday in august it wouldn't start when i went to leave for work in the morning. took my wife's vehicle o work and she tried it a few hours later and it fired right up. brought to local shop to have them look at it since they can service my extended warranty. after a few days there i was notified that it was he tipm and the part we on order, but was on national back order from jeep and i was number 141 in line waiting for one. as of today, 9/3/14, still no part and still no estimated delivery of said tipm. i have not been able to drive the jeep since then because it is unreliable transportation and my job requires me to travel up to 300 miles per day. have now made two payments on a vehicle i can't use. *jb
