The vehicle consistently shuts off while i'm driving, losing power steering and engine power. it seems to occur when i am slowing down. this happens usually once/twice each week and most recently almost caused a high speed accident, as my car shut off while i was making a left turn on a highway, which caused a semi truck to swerve, nearly hitting me and my 4 year old son.
June 16, 2018 i'd stop at a gas station to fill up i was inside the station for about 20 minutes playing lottery for the next morning, i only explaining for time line. came out to pump gas and noticed my engine was smoking and i haven't been driving long, i just left a water front park which is about 5 minutes away. well the smoke smells like burning wires but no fire just heavy smoke so i let it cool down. and the truck was dead nothing no power when the tow truck finally showed up some 10 hours later, and tried to jump start the truck it was draining the jump box. so i end up taking my jeep to a after market repair shop and his diagnosis was that my alternator had burned up. so once i'd replaced the alternator the truck still wouldn't take a charge. after doing further research come to find out there was a recall on my alternator issue but for some reason my vehicle vett my vehicle was not on the list my vin number is not part of the recall list mind you i bought my vehicle use i'm the second owner is a canadian vehicle but i brought it in the in michigan from a auto broker. i'm currently dealing with northland chrysler jeep dealership in oak park michigan and at their contacting fiat chrysler recall team and trying to figure out if i'm having the same issues as the alternator recall i believe it's t36 why my vehicle couldn't be added to the list for my reimbursement i had call the number that i have on a jeep app that's on my smartphone there was a recall number and it stated that 2011 chargers challengers durangos jeep grand cherokee and a couple other vehicles if i'm not mistaken has the alternator failure recall it also states that you will smell heavy you will see heavy smoke, my name is [xxx] my number is [xxx] [xxx] is my email. please feel free to contact me at any time after reading this message. thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Every 3 months apart or so my vehicle has lost power on the engine causing it to shut down on me when i make a hard left turn while applying my brakes. the first time that it happened it was on the freeway on my way to work out of nowhere my wheel hot hard and when i was pressing my accelerator it was not working. , the second time it happened when i was making a left turn and the same thing happened to me i had to get on top of the side walk because i couldn't steer it enough to make my turn. and my third time happened this morning while i was going under the bridge luckily for me no one was behind me but this problem is a situation ready to go wrong. out of all these times i have been alone in the vehicle going on my way to work in the morning. its always a scary experience for me. i do not feel safe driving the car. no codes no nothing. the steering wheel gets all hard that i can barely turn it to get on my right lane so i can put my car in park and restart it , from there it starts working fine like if nothing happened.
Alternator p60 i nhtsa 14v-634 chrysler has decided that a defect, \vhich relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2011 through 2014 model year dodge challenger, dodge charger, dodge durango, chrysler 300 and 2012 through 2014 model year jeep. grand cherokee vehicles equipped ,vith a 160 an1p alternator. my jeep grand cherokee is a 2011 and experienced to exact alternator malfunction as described in this recall. chrysler does not recognize my car in this recall. according to the recall, p60 i nhtsa 14v-634 the problem is ..the alternator diodes in your vehicle may experience a rapid failure. variability in the failure m node ranges from no output, reduced output, and/or a fully shorted to ground condition. depending on the alternator failure mode and timing, vehicle electrical system voltage may drop to critical levels, disabling systems such as antilock brake system (abs), electronic stability control (esc), electronic control module (ecm), and/or the central body controller (cbc). the driver will have limited or no detection of the alternator failing, ,which can result in vehicle shutdown,vn ,while driving and/or an under hood electrical fire. seem my 2011 jeep grand cherokee should be added to this recall.
While making a turn the steering and the brakes locked up and the engine shut off, causing me to lose control of the vehicle. this has happened twice 8 months apart. i've done the recall for the relay switch in 2015. this happened again (2nd time) yesterday april 9th, 2018. i almost hit a car at a light it was terrifying. the dealership has my jeep now and said they can't diagnose unless they have an error code or unless it happens while the technician is driving it. is chrysler going to have people drive these suv's and ignore that people could die? this is an extremely urgent situation. i don't feel safe driving my jeep that i love. please help?
My car does not start at least 10 times a week, i believe its due to a faulty fuel pump relay and my vin isnt part of the recall for this and it should be. ive read many other people complaining of the same exact issue and i took it to fairfield jeep where they told me one thing over the phone and then upon arrival it was something different and then the papers stated something else different!
Within 5 or so minutes of driving, the car will shut off while driving. this has only happened as mentioned, within 5 minutes of turning on vehicle and starting your commute. it has also happened only under braking and turning circumstances. i have brought the vehicle into a jeep dealership twice for this issue and both times they have replaced the fuel pump relay switch. the problem still persists. i would estimate this happens once/mo, however, it's happened twice in the last 3 weeks which obviously brought me to the point in which i'm documenting and writing a report. i called the same jeep dealership this morning and they claim they are not aware of this wide spread problem and would need to dive deeper in order to properly understand the current issue. the service manager suggested that the oil levels could be low, which could cause this issue, but i regularly check my oil levels and this is not the issue. i've noticed that many others have had the same issue and it doesn't look like jeep has determined what exactly is causing their vechicles to shut off while driving. it's a very scary situation, especially if a large semi or another large vehicle is barrelling down on you while you are under brake and turning, and then all of a sudden you lose power steering and the ability to accelerate through the turn/corner. i would like to better understand what jeep is doing and what nhtsa knows about this issue and what our options are as a consumer. this is a severe safety issue that needs to be addressed and not by tossing parts at the problem that won't fit it, this just causes the consumer to spend significants amount of money without addressing and/or fixing the problem.
The car stalled and engine shut off while driving, decelerating around a left turning curve. lost acceleration capability, power steering, brakes, and electrical system (no emergency flashers). could barely control car and ended driving through curve, off the road, down into small ravine and into field. were fortunate to avoid road signs and telephone pole. car restarted after putting gear in park. very afraid to drive this vehicle anymore. not able to get appointment with jeep dealer for another week. research shows this could be related to faulty tipm. our service records indicated this jeep did receive chrysler group safety recall p54 (nhtsa #14v530) tipm internal fuel pump relay replacement, which states is a potential cause of the car losing power. seems to have not prevented the moving car from losing power.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 30-75 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. additionally, the brake pedal was applied, but failed to respond. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (autonation chrysler dodge jeep ram and fiat, 2201 victory dr, columbus, ga 31901), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer attached a history recorder to the vehicle. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle stalled and the traction control and service four wheel drive indicators illuminated. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the manufacturer was not notified. also, while driving at unknown speeds on march 25, 2018, the windshield wipers spontaneously activated, the radio changed stations, the brake pedal was applied and failed to respond, and the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to landmark chrysler dodge jeep ram of morrow (50 mount zion blvd, morrow, ga 30260), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified and opened case number: 33696515. no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was 66,000.
Since september 2017, my 2011 jeep grand cherokee has been in the repair shop four times due to the vehicle not starting. the alternator and battery was checked once per month up until december, but each time i was informed that both parts were in good condition based on the diagnostics. however, after each repair visit the vehicle would not start after a few days. between repair visits a number of other issues occured: *automatically accelerating at high speed (jan '18) *engine stalling while driving (jan '18) *blowing cool air on one side and hot air on the other (sept '17) *doors locking and unlocking when unattended (sept '17) *windows going down half way when unattended (oct '17) *radio powering on when turned to the off position (nov '17) the most recent incident happened two weeks ago when the car stalled and stopped in the middle of a busy stretch of road with three vehicles in close proximity. due to ongoing issues, this week i had the car towed to jeep for another assessment. the jeep adviser called me back the next day stating my battery and alternator needed to be replaced for $1282 otherwise the car wouldn't start without a constant charge. the battery was just replaced a year ago in june 2017. with all of the issues mentioned it's clear that the 2011 jeep grand cherokee has a design issue/flaw that poses a major safety concern for consumers. the issues that need to be investigated or re-investigated for the 2011 jeep grand cherokee are the alternator and power module replacement. most, if not all of the issues mentioned could be directly linked to the tipm. my request is that cas, nhtsa, and chrysler consider or reconsider the above mentioned for both safety concerns and the undue repair expenses paid by consumers that appear to be directly linked to faulty design.
Engine shuts down while driving with no warning. already had tipm replaced twice. last thing we were told that it could have been a loose battery terminal. concerned if the vehicle is safe to drive.
The push start button has issues starting the engine. there has been a recall for this and the issue still persists. the only way the dealer will fix the issue is if the problem is seen 1st hand and occurs for longer then 8 seconds. i have paid for multiple rental cars and spent multiple hours at the dealer to have this issue fixed and it keeps recurring. something needs to be done to fix it without re-occurrence. my final point is that yesterday when dealing with this issue my car started after its second try, i then drove onto the street and the engine shut off and the brakes locked up. luckily there was not any cross traffic because it could have caused a serious accident on a busy street with my daughter and myself in the car. this hse risk has caused me to be very concerned about the drivability of my vehicle and something needs to be done asap!
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving unknown speeds, the rpms and all the electrical components went haywire. the contact drove the vehicle home. the dealer (neuwirth motors, 219 s college rd, wilmington, nc 28403) diagnosed that the tipm was never repaired on the vehicle. the manufacturer informed the contact that the manufacturer warranty expired and suggested that the contact use the extended warranty. the contact took the vehicle to a different dealer (victory chrysler dodge, 45 naber drive, shallotte, nc 28470) where it was diagnosed that the tipm was faulty and would cost $1,200 to repair. the vehicle was still at the dealer being repaired. the failure mileage was 132,050. parts distribution disconnect.
While decelerating and turning the vehicle will stall and you lose power steering and power brakes. this has occurred 11 times in the past couple years and 3 times in the past month. this has occurred several times while exiting the highway and has caused me to almost crash or have someone drive into the rear of my vehicle. the event leaves no engine codes and the dealer says they can't duplicate. i put the vehicle in neutral and it will start again. this is a huge safety issue for both myself and other motoring public.
Vehicle engine shuts off randomly while driving. this problem has happened multiple times. the engine is not running so there is no power steering or power brakes putting my wife, child, and others around them in danger when this happens. there are numerous and numerous amounts of complaints about this issue all over the web. chrysler has a recall fix for this issue but their fix is not working, as we have had this "fix" done twice, still having the stalling while driving issue. there are 188,000 other vehicles affected by this. these vehicles are a danger to everyone on the road.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to buchanan and young incorporated (713 e main st in burnsville, nc) where it was diagnosed, but the results were undetermined. the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 14v530000 (electrical system), but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 121,000.
Engine cuts off during operation while moving. it usually happens when slowing down to turn going down hill. vehicle loses power brakes and power steering. other owners have logged same complaint on forums etc. very dangerous.
While driving at 45 mph started to brake for a right turn yield and car completely shut off . restarted the car and everything was fine; went to the dealer to run a diagnostics and nothing came up.
Tl-contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee --- vehicle has been stalling on owner -- jeep has been in shop four times in less then twelve months for same issue -- recall on other jeeps for same year and make of vehicle . dealership stated nothing wrong with vehicle but they wont take vehicle as a trade in due to stalling issue ---- vehicle stalled two weeks ago . contact given number to jeep1recalls associated with this vin sep 18,2017 manufacturer recall numbert59 nhtsa recall number17v-572 recall status recall incomplete summary the brake booster water shield may have been incorrectly installed during completion of safety recall p14 (nhtsa 14v 154). an incorrectly installed brake booster water shield may be less effective in diverting water away from the brake booster, creating the possibility for corrosion and subsequent water intrusion of the brake booster. safety risk water intrusion of the brake booster in a cold climate may lead to freezing and limit the braking ability of a vehicle. limited braking ability can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. remedy inspect brake booster water shield for proper installation. if the brake booster water shield is found to be missing or incorrectly installed, the brake booster must be vacuum tested. brake boosters that do not pass the vacuum test must be replaced. at the conclusion of this recall the brake booster water shield must be properly installed.
Vehicle will unexpectedly stall during decelleration and braking. vehicle loses all power to the motor and power steering, making it difficult to avoid collision and steer vehicle to safety. this happens at high and low speeds, and has occurred on 3 separate occasions in a 2 week time period. this issue was supposed to be addressed by recall number p54; of which i completed on this vehicle in 2014. this issue persists, and i am seeing other owners complain of this identical problem on various forums. jeep/chrysler seems to be inconsistent on the coverage of repairs and diagnosis. this is a real safety concern that should be addressed universally.
Fcw light on dash went on and all power went off, causing a total loss of steering and control on the freeway. this could easily result in a fatal collision. *bf updated 9/13/18*jb
Vehicle completely shuts off at speed while making a turn. problem is intermittent, you loose power steering and brakes. no codes given and no warning vehicle is about to but off. has happened 8 times in 2 years, is dangerous when exiting highway, need to put car in neutral to restart vehicle.
Engine sometimes stops running completely while driving at low and at highway speed. it happens when the accelerator is released. it is then necessary to stop; re-start, with no problem, and continue on. has happened 4 times in last 3 months. jeep is now at landmark jeep, springfield, il for on road testing with chrysler copilot computer installed.
Engine stalled out at 40 mph upon entering a right turn exit ramp. no power steering or brakes were available until i was able to stop the vehicle and restart engine. concerned if airbags would deploy if engine was off and vehicle in motion.
Leaking/ cracked engine oil filter housing. oil leaking became evident as oil leaking through the engine compartment and to below the vehicle. required replacement of the engine oil filter housing.
My 2011 jeep grand cherokee overland v8 hemi stalls while slowing down to turn onto another road, or going from highway speeds to exiting a ramp. it's been occurring for several years. i've already had the fuel pump relay recall fixed twice, and my jeep still stalls out almost on a daily basis. it turns out chrysler issued a recall (t36) for 2012-2014 jeeps with alternator issues; however the information i have read on the recall sounds a lot like what is happening to my jeep. 2011 jeep gc overland should be included in this recall.
Jeep will crank but not start over, have replaced the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump and the batteries in both fobs vehicle will not start. on the rare occasion i get the jeep to run it will randomly shut off....last time i was on the freeway going 65mph when the engine shut off and i was almost rear ended because of the jeep slowing down substantially my 6 year old daughter was in the car and i was terrified.
Takata recall i just purchased my jeep back in june and can view the service history. this complaint in particular has to do with extended crank. my jeep takes awhile to start. i see that there was a fuel pump relay recall. i see in my service history that my jeep had this part replaced: 02/02/2015 78,423 mi at jt's chrysler jeep dodge fiat. again, according to the symptom/conditions, i am still experiencing the same issue, and would like this fixed as soon as possible because of safety concerns. i am experiencing or have a symptom/condition of a clunk and/or bump felt through the steering wheel under moderate braking or driving over rough roads (19-003-14) part to fix known issue is (ar) 05057539ad shaft, steering column intermediate. i would like this fixed as soon as possible because of safety concerns. i am experiencing a symptom/condition of a powertrain issue. when accelerating, i feel the transmission slipping and the engine makes very noisy and abrupt vibrations. all lubricant is new. i would like this fixed as soon as possible because of safety concerns. my window washing feature does not spew fluid onto front windows, however, will spew liquid on rear window. i would like this fixed as soon as possible because of safety concerns.
Jeep engine stalled out with no warning while driving 60 mph down the interstate.
The car randomly won't start. it has full power but does not crank. many owners with various years of jeeps have had this issue and the dealer often can't identify the problem partly because the car starts after it has been towed. many owners end up spending $1000's on repairs and tows only to have it continue. it's very dangerous because you never know when or where it will happen. i just had mine towed to the dealer for the fourth time and have been told that i will need to start replacing parts if the car doesn't produce a diagnostic code.
On multiple occasions, our 2011 jeep grand cherokee overland 5.7l engine stalls while braking and trying to turn corners. recall p54 to replace fuel pump relay to correct this issue was done in november 2015, but the issue has continued. most recently occurred sept 8th, 11th and now today the 14th. had vehicle in for diagnostics on sept 13th and jeep technicians were unable to find the problem. when this stalling occurs, there are no warning lights and apparently no fault codes generated. when motor stalls, we lose power steering and brakes and have ended up on the wrong side of road trying to get stopped. this usually happens when decelerating and braking to turn off or onto a highway.
Fcw (forward collision warning) light went on and the engine killed, while in full motion, causing total loss of power steering and control. this has happened while stationary at a stop light and in motion.
Jeep gc2011 engine stalls while driving! current recall under chrysler #t36 and nhtsa #17v435 only covers year 2012-2014. chrysler needs to be notified to include year 2011. ongoing issues of staling and complaints for 2011 has been logged since 2012 and is a serious mechanical issue that should be under the recall. if anyone has experienced staling please document and send the complaint or if you know someone who has died from this please file to save others!
My 2011 jeep grand cherokee is leaking from what appears to be coming from the trans cooler part just above the a/c condenser. this seems to be an extremely common issue with the 2011-2013 models.
Timp recall, was repaired jan 2015. today vehicle stalled in traffic, completely shut down and lost power steering, while making a left hand turn. i am lucky i was not in an accident. i was able to restart the vehicle. i have made an appointment with the dealer, but since it was repaired previously, not sure what they will do for me. obviously there is still a problem the recall did not repair.
When i come to a stop/slow down the engine intermittently stalls - typically this is when i'm driving on city streets when i'm stopping. it has happened while turning both left and right, going up hill and down hill, and more often when the engine is cool. the fuel level can be full or low and it still happens. friday may 19, 2017 it happened four times in a 20 mile trip on roads with speed limits ranging from 30mph to 55mph, once at a stop light, once at a round about, once at a stop sign, and once at a left hand turn. p54 recall was already addressed.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds, the engine was damaged due to a faulty part that continuously knocked into the engine. the faulty unknown part created indentations in the engine which, in turn, caused an oil leak. the vehicle was repaired on two occasions at an unknown dodge, chrysler, jeep dealer of warren, massachusetts for the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 110,000. the vin was not available.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle shifted into fourth gear independently and stalled after an inclined hill with check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was unable to restart. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated a case has been assigned however it was not guaranteed due to the vehicle was out of the 36 month warranty. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
On may 4, 2017, approximately around 7:00pm, i turned right onto a freeway and my steering wheel locked up and the vehicle shut off completely. i was not able to turn the steering wheel and barely was able to make it out of the middle of the road. the engine shut off while driving down the road. i am luck that i did not have a car behind me or i would have caused an accident. how scary!! chrysler has claimed that they have fixed this!!
While driving at a constant speed on the highway, the engine stalled causing the brakes and power steering to be disabled. the first time it happened, 11/12/16, i was taking an exit off of the freeway. when i pressed the brake to slow down for the approaching red light, the pedal was stiff and would bot slow the vehicle. thankfully, the light turned green so i let the vehicle coast. as i went to turn right, i realized there was no power steering either. after crossing over 2 lanes i was able to bring the car to a stop on the side of the road. that's when i realized the engine had stalled. brought it to the dealership, paid $700 for something, then drove it back since they said it was fixed. five months later, 4/20/17, same exact thing happened. it was 8:30am and i was bringing my 18mo old to daycare when i pressed the brake pedal to stop at a red light ahead and realize it was stiff and not working again. fortunately, again, the light turned green and the car in front of me accelerated. i fought with the steering wheel to turn into a nearby gas station after the letting vehicle coast to a slower speed. after both incidences, i turned the vehicle off, waited a few minutes, then turned it back on. it hesitated a few times then cranked and functioned properly afterwards. furthermore, during both incidences i was very slightly turning to the right; the first time to exit the hwy and the second time i was veering into the right lane. during the first incident, i was travelling on the freeway around 65mph. during the second, i was traveling at about 50mph.
Engine shuts off with no warning while driving. power steering and brakes are lost. no service lights or loss of power to other items (ex: radio) and no error messages can be found by jeep dealership service tech. this has happened 3 times most recently 4-4-17.
Beginning in august of 2016, the car will stall sporadically upon rapid deceleration. last time in march the car stalled when brakes were applied to avoid an accident on the freeway. dealer cannot recreate or diagnose the problem and returns the car 'operating as designed.' car has not been driven since. problem has occurred 10-12 times and more recently with greater frequency. rapid declaration usually occurs to avoid a problem, this is the worst time for the car to stall out.
When driving the engine will turn off with no warning. since december until now, it has done this a total of 6 times. 3 of the times either merging onto the freeway or getting off of the freeway. scares me so much. i have been lucky enough to not have anyone crash from the behind. my steering wheel locks, and the brakes become very hard to push down on. its hard to move out of the way of traffic.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 jeep grand cherokee. while driving various speeds the vehicle suddenly shut off. the failure mainly occurred while driving in cold weather and while making a turn in either direction. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (rainbow jeep, 301 river highlands blvd, covington, la) on several occasions and the driveshaft, oil pan, purge solenoid, exhaust manifold gasket and bolts, and the fuel pump were replaced; however, the failure continued. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no solution was offered. the failure mileage was 60,000.
2011jeep grand cherokee overland had stalled in the middle of an intersection losing power steering, no brakes, and no warning lights on dash telling me anything about jeep being turn off. very scary! i hit the curb and almost hit the atop sign.
Vehicle lost power while driving at speeds of 55mph. check engine light and multiple system warnings were shown by evic, including abs, traction control, ignition system, 4wd system, and air suspension system. braking power was severely diminished. maximum speed was reduced to 5mph, before stalling out after 10 feet. the cause of the issue was a short in the crankshaft position sensor that disabled all powertrain and braking systems. all systems share the same 5 volt circuit into pcm.
Vehicle shuts off randomly while driving. both times it has happened during deceleration. power steering and brakes are lost. no indicator lights visible and no diagnostic codes set. chrysler customer service disavows any knowledge of a problem although there are several accounts of similar issues on the jeep forums and other websites. dealer can find nothing wrong. my wife is now afraid to drive the vehicle because she cannot control it without power assist. *tr
The right cylinder in the vehicle is defective however jeep is telling me that its not covered under any warranty. the vehicle is only 5 years old and should not be having these issues. the engine lights keeps coming on and making a heavy noise. i do not feel safe driving this car, like this. *tr
Oil filter cooling housing assembly is broken at only 62,000 miles. the repair cost is over $500.00 at the dealership. i was notified of the issue when i took the vehicle in for an oil change.
Decelerating and turning right vehicle stalls completely, fifth time this happened in three weeks.
