Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

While driving my 2006 grand cherokee the vehicle will switch into neutral on it's own. this has occurred while stopped at lights, while driving at 70 mph, so on and so forth. the check engine light reads "shift control module" and this has been replaced twice and has not been cheap. when this occurs, the dash board lights light up around all gears (park, reverse, neutral, and drive.) i have had to pull off onto the side of the road and turn off my vehicle and restart it before it would switch back into the correct gear. i am wondering if the new safety recall 13v175000 is covering this issue. as i read, it seems my vehicle is not the only one with this problem. my next step was to replace the entire transmission as the person working on the vehicle did not know what else to suggest. this is very dangerous, especially with having to share this vehicle with a teenage son.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle decelerated and shifted into neutral independently. the contact had to shift to park and then drive in order to resolve the failure momentarily. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the failure was reported to manufacturer. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign 13v175000 (electrical, power train), however the vin was not included in the recall campaign. the failure mileage was 117,000. the current mileage was 127,000.

The grand cherokee stalled at a light on a hill. restarted it and but it back in drive but vehicle continued to roll back almost rolling into car behind. stalled 4 more times but in parking lots and non busy roads. took it back to dealer where they updated software on computer and said it was fixed. then stalled on a busy highway and was almost rear ended because vehicle stalled and wouldn't go into gear. then parked it in parking lot and it stalled in park. *tr

While driving on a highway, i noticed my car slowed down and even after applying the gas pedal, it didn't help. after pressing the brakes and pushing the gas pedal again, then it started accelerating. the engine light would blink and lately it stays on. the check engine light stays on and off but once i noticed that when i started the car again, the check engine light was off but i lost one front headlight. i was told by the dealership that i needed to replace a spark plug which cost me almost 300.00. now the check engine light is on again and i suspect as other owners have shared it in the forum that it's the ignition switch that's faulty. i just wish nhtsa would do something about this asap. the letter came the mail stating there is a recall on my car but nothing is being done to correct the problem. are you waiting for severe accidents to happen before you really force jeep to correct this issue??? do people have to lose their lives before you act on this problem? *tr

While driving my vehicle suddenly shifted gears and coasted as if it were in neutral while rpms shot up to 3,000. it then suddenly lunged forward and picked up speed. the check engine light came on. after a day or so, the light would go off. within the time frame of approx 3 weeks, this had occurred at least 3 times. it was very scary to have it change gears and not be able to maintain speed and suddenly speed up again while traveling with vehicles in front of me and behind me. you essentially have no control of the vehicle in that moment, nor do you have any warning that it is about to happen. drivers around you also have no warning that your car will suddenly slow down or lunge forward. took it to the dealership to be looked at. was told that it was my electronic shifter module and had it replaced. although i have a power train warranty, it was not covered and had to pay over $900. did research online and came across numerous others with the same issue. i feel that if this critical part fails on so many vehicles it should be made a recall. when this part fails, it has the potential to cause many accidents. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the contact discovered that the engine rpms begin to increase and the transmission failed to shift into the next gear. the contact pulled over to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 130,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, all of the lights on the gear shift illuminated and the vehicle independently decelerated to 20 mph. in addition, the vehicle would not respond to acceleration attempts. the contact purchased an electronic shift module from the dealer and had an independent mechanic repair the vehicle. the failure recurred the following day. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 77,000.

Upon acceleration, the car unexpectedly shifted into neutral. *tr

While driving my vehicle suddenly shifted gears as if it were in neutral while rpms shot up rapidly to 3,000. it then suddenly lunged forward and picked up speed. the check engine light came on. after a day or so, the light would go off. it was very scary to have it change gears and not be able to maintain speed and suddenly speed up again while traveling with vehicles in front of me and behind me. you essentially have no control of the vehicle in that moment, nor do you have any warning that it is about to happen. drivers around you also have no warning that your car will suddenly slow down or lunge forward. most of the time i have to pull over and put the vehicle in park and then back into drive for it to work. happens at any given time, whether im going 5 mph or 65 mph.. even on highways. can be very dangerous. *tr

I do not remember exactly when the problem started, but while driving at night, my lights started flickering and then went out all together. i thought it happened when i turned my signal lights on, but i am not sure if this is the cause. i took it to the jeep dealer and they could not find anything. every now and then, i have the same issue, but nothing can be found. this is very dangerous for me and it terrifies me that someone will think i am flashing them and become angry. there is obviously something wrong if there are so many with this type of problem, but nothing is being done about it. i purchased as a one person lease vehicle from a dealership and within a year had to have my transmission replaced. i could not enter transmission in the parts section. *tr

The transmission has been struggling changing gears and this has been happening for many years. you may look back and see where we made this complaint initially and the problem had been occurring long before this and continues to get worse. i know the 2005 jeep cherokees were recalled for having the very same issue from the many mechanics who have driven my car to see what the problem was. one of the mechanics where i took it to was chrysler jeep in asheville, n.c. the mechanic said that i did have a 2005 transmission which had been on your recall list. i would like to get this problem resolved as i have been traveling with this issue for quite sometime with no resolution.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the gear shifter failed. the contact could only move the gear shifter with force and it would become stuck between first and third gears. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic to have a diagnostic performed. the failure was located at the gear shifter module. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 170,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the shift solenoid failed twice. the vehicle was repaired by an independent mechanic however, the failure recurred within one year. the contact spoke with a dealer and was told that the solenoids should not have failed. the failure mileage was 112,000 and the current mileage was 136,000. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed a significant amount of transmission fluid leaking onto the ground. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated the transmission's electrical connector housing would need to be replaced. the vehicle would be repaired when the part became available. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

I had my check engine light diagnosed and found to be the esm shifter, an electronic device that connects the gear shifter to the transmission. it was said to me that this helps regulate that the transmission stays in the correct gear while driving. i have found that the transmission sticks in a certain gear even though it is not the correct gear i am driving in. i have found that i have had to pull over, put the vehicle and park so that it clears before going back in gear. i have also found that that process does not always work, when that has not worked, i would have to turn the vehicle off and back on for it to shift properly. i also had an incident that while using cruise control i was going up a hill so the cruise control kicked in to give the extra boost but it did not shift back down. i was quickly accelerating (almost to 90 in about 5 seconds) and being close to reaching 5rpms i had to turn off cruise control and shift into neutral for it to stop accelerating. due to the extended warranty i purchased it was not covered. i have talked to a few mechanics and they all have said they have replaced multiple recently. when talking to jeep headquarters, they stated that it has not been reported as a defective item. i was advised to contact nhtsa to report this in hopes that other have done so so that jeep is required to make this a recall item. from what i have heard, it has been a fairly common item that needs replacing. *tr

My vehicle started originally slowing down like it slipped out of gear. i was told i needed a new transmission but when i replaced it i still had the same exact problem with the vehicle staying in limp mode and check engine light on, rpm running high and not going into overdrive. the transmission is not shifting correctly after spending over $1500.00 on it. from my research i have arrived at the esm to be causing the problem with the vehicle not indicating what gear for the transmission to shift into. i have called the jeep corporate office and even though they know that the transmission needed a repair when i first bought it with 17,000 miles on it they still did not feel they were responsible for my transmission problems. to me that are just avoiding the fact that this is a manufacture issue with either poor design, construction or quality of parts. i had a 1994 amigo that i put 280,000 miles on and i never once had any type of transmission issue. this is a 2006 vehicle this is the poorest experience i have ever had with a vehicle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated while driving at an unknown speed attempting to make a turn, the traction warning light illuminated and a loud grinding noise emitted from the vehicle. the contact stated that the esp, bap and transmission warning lights were also continuously illuminated. the failure recurred multiple times. the contact had received a notification for recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical systems) and nhtsa campaign number: 13v175000 (electrical system, power train). however, the parts needed were not available. the dealer was uncertain when the parts would become available to service the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 66,957. the vin was unavailable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the gear automatically shifted into neutral. the abs, and traction control warning lights illuminated. the independent mechanic borchert motors located at 18295 faribault blvd faribault mn, 55021; (507) 334-7271 was contacted where the mechanic stated that there were several recalls for this year, make, and model. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted at 800-247-9753. the manufacturer stated that there was only one recall for the ignition switch. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. a case number was not provided. the failure mileage was 90,000.

Was going down interstate 40 coming from little rock ark. jeep started to slow down pressed on gas would not speed up. there are so many eighteen wheelers on that interstate. i managed to pull over. started to shifted from park to drive and drive kicked in. i had two children in the jeep with me .i can not even think about what might have happen if one of those trucks had hit me in the rear. this is a 2006 jeep grand cherokee laredo. i have looked on line for recall there was a recall on the 2008 models . the transmission control module . i have been told that is the problem with my jeep.when i made in home this happened again coming down my street in halls tn. got to my drive stop pulling. put in park back to drive made in driveway. i have seen on line this is a problem with lots of jeeps not only mine. please fix this problem before someone get hurt or dies. what does it take!!!!!!! help! *tr

While accelerating attempting to merge onto highway vehicle loses all power and transmissions seems to disengage and only coasts. car acts like if i shifted into neutral but gear selected is still drive. check engine light illuminates and engine responds to acceleration but no movement is given by transmission. rpm gauge goes all the way down to idle. had to pull over the side of the road place in park, shut engine off and restart the vehicle then continue. this is a very dangerous and frightening situation, all power is lost and no control of acceleration is given. this is the 5th time in a year time span, this has happened. started at about 50000 miles. this has almost caused rear end collisions as well, please look into this matter. i cannot imagine what other less skilled drivers do especially carrying children or pets very dangerous, needs a recall or sb.

Transmission disengages at speed from drive to neutral. shift lever and indicator remain in drive even though vehicle loses motive power. i thought we were going to get rear ended. i had to pull over to the shoulder and restart the engine to put it back in drive. this problem has occurred three times previously. after checking all the blogs, i see that the switch contacts in the esm (electronic shift module) are prone to failure. the esm/shifter bezel is a $795 part from chrysler.

I was going down the highway, and all of a sudden i had no power. it was like i turned the car off. luckily i was able to put the car into neutral and restart it. this has happened several times sense i bought the car in may of 2011. when this does happen i have no power, no dash lights, no nothing. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle stalled. while parked, the vehicle would sometimes move forward even with the brake pedal depressed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but the failure could not be diagnosed. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

At approximately 78k miles, vehicle would occasionally start and the only system that was operational was the radio. i cleaned and inspected all connectors that i could access, and problem appeared to go away. then just after the warranty expired (80k miles) intermittent electrical issues have begun to appear. the transmission sometimes "sticks" in 3rd gear, the windshield wipers fail to function and when i attempt to turn them on it crashes the powertrain control module which then begins running random system errors, and the headlights sometimes turn off or fail to come on. *tr

Starting at around 55,000 miles while i would be driving my jeep, the car would stop moving but the engine would rev as i pushed on the pedal. i would not be able to go in drive, neutral or reverse. i would have to put the car in park and turn off the vehicle, wait a few seconds then restart the car. i have had my car at my mechanics as well as a jeep dealership, a total of 5 times, now ready to go back in for the 6th time. each time i am told the problem is fixed and a day or 2 later it happens again. when i call to let the mechanic know i am having the problem again, i am then told that neither they nor the dealership know what the problem is and to bring it back in. leaving me without a car for days. i have spent a lot of money on this vehicle and do not want to spend thousands more fixing a problem that is not fixable. i have 2 small children, and fear that somebody is going rear end the car when is just stops. i have contacted the manufacturer of jeep and was told only "certain" 2006 jeeps were under recall, mine was not one. all i could do was make a complaint. so i made a verbal and now written complaint, hoping something gets done. *tr

When driving transmission has not been properly shifting into proper gears. the transmission is sounding as if it is struggling to shift into the gear it should be in. this has been happening for many years. this happens in all driving areas, hills, flat roads, short trips, long trips. began 2011.

Whining noise coming from back of 2006 jeep grand cherokee; removed drive shaft between transfer case and rear diff-found u joints on each end slightly tight; had new u joints installed (had replaced by a custom shop as jeep driveshafts and u joints are one component and cost in the $1200 range to replace)-my u joints are now serviceable and can be changed at any shop; problem still existed after repair, removed transfer case-no problems there; opened up rear diff and found pinion bearing pre-tension had been overtightened (my mechanic says this was done at the factory as this case has never been opened up prior to this)-gears were still okay but bearings showed signs of stress so changed out all bearings in diff and re-set pinion tension; problem now solved-my out of pocket cost - $1300. this vehicle has 53000 miles on it. *tr

When driving the lights around the gear indicators will circle all the gears and vehicle drops into what feels like neutral and loses power. then it will randomly drop back into drive. happened a couple of times then check engine light came on. code given was loose ground wire in tranny. dealer fixed. 1 week later happened again and check light came on again. dealer got same ground wire code, took apart again and wire was fine. reset light. still having same problem with shifting and has happened when just engaging to leave out of parking lot then 3 times on hwy at 55 mph. very scary as don't know if going to go back into gear or power loss will cause someone to rear end you at high rate of speed. can't always find a place to pull over and re-engage gears. check engine light came on again today taking it back in for review. why hasn't there been an investigation or a recall? does there have to be a fatal accident to get attention to this dangerous matter? i love my jeep but not enough to die for it!

2006 jeep grand cherokee. consumer requests reimbursement for recall repairs. *smd the consumer stated the costly repair of the shifter assembly did not successfully address the real defective part, the final drive controller module software, which was finally made public in 2013. in early 2010, the vehicle unintentionally shifted from drive into neutral, while the consumer was driving. luckily, she was able to coast out of the roadway into a parking lot. the dealer mistakenly diagnosed the condition as a defective shifter and replaced it. at the end of may 2011, the vehicle once again shifted from drive into neutral on its own. the consumer no longer owns the vehicle. *jb

Transmission fails at highway speeds. dashboard says its in drive but when you rev the engine its in neutral. i had to coast off the highway and restart the engine. it worked fine, but isn't it dangerous losing power in the middle of the highway with tractor trailers coming at you at full speed from behind? this isn't the first time it has happened. it happened many times before. *tr

When driving my 2006 jeep grand cherokee laredo the lights around the pnd21 will circle all of the gears and either go into neutral or 1st gear on its own while you are driving it, it happens at least 2-3 times a week. it is very dangerous when you are driving down the road - have taken to dealer said it needs electronic shift module at a cost of $750. called customer service jeep they said they couldn't help with the cost of repair. i have looked into this problem and it seems that there a lot of these same 2006 jeeps with the same problem. they said my jeep has to many miles 85,000 - but it seems like it happens to call jeeps no mater what the mileage - i think this is a defective part and they should make it right - now matter how many miles. this is a very dangerous problem. i have almost been in 3 accidents due to this problem. *tr

When driving and you hit a bump dash light flash, car shuts down sometimes i've taken all keys, rings ect.off but that don't help key still moves when driving, in june 2015 took it to have 2 recall orders fix which was flash final drive module and the final drive controller module every sense then car is worst off now,now transmission problems pop up that never poped up before this was done at ray laethem. had to buy and older car cause half the time to scared to dri the jeep i paid 15,000 dollars for i just want this jeep to run right and safe or buy it back i'm still waiting for the new ignition.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while turning on the vehicle, it failed to start. all of the lights on the instrumental panel were illuminated. the contact stated that after 3 attempts, the vehicle finally started. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the transmission and the rear end differential were serviced prior to the failure. the contact stated that the failure was related to the previous service repairs that were made. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 80,200.

Check engine light would come on (& go off) repeatedly. additionally, transmission would 'jerk' on deceleration just before vehicle stopped (light drivetrain had to catch up with the engine). took vehicle to dealer, who stated there was nothing wrong. returned several days later with same engine light illuminated. dealer kept vehicle for over a week; finally determined a daughter-board on the transmission control module had failed and replaced ($600). two days later, check engine light came on again. returned to the dealer, who (after 3 days) determined that the entire transmission control module had failed ($1000 to replace). replaced entire tcm (which other dealers told me seldom if ever fails). 3 months later, problem returned. *tr

2006 jeep grand cherokee after starting and putting into to drive the vehicle revved and took off with out the gas pedal being depressed. this has happened three times, with the last incident leading to a severe crash and injury. after the crash and the car stopping the engine was still revving. the incident was witnessed twice by the same person aside from the driver. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 grand cherokee. while driving at a speed of 40 mph, the vehicle seemed as if it would shift gears on its owns. the contact noticed the problem eight times. the vehicle was taken to both a local dealership and a local repair shop to find the cause for failure. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired at the time of the complaint. the current and failure mileages were approximately 79,000.

As driving the vehicle would switch into neutral on its own. i have seen there is a recall for this issue, but it does not include our particular vehicle (for whatever reason) but it should. the recall needs to be extended further. *tr

I have a jeep grand cherokee (2006). over the past 5 years, it has intermittently had problems. sometimes while driving and after startup. these problems have always been loss of gauges, flashing lights in dash, what appears to be the traction control or brakes kicking in and the loss of power steering? when this first started happening i thought maybe the computer had been vibrated or jostled and had a glitch. over time it would go away and 6 months or so later happen again! i have done everything in my power to stop this from happening, ie changing parts and trouble shooting the problems to no avail. i thought i had this narrowed down to a rusted connection from a ground wire connected to the block.....wrong again! this morning i had my 4 year old son in the jeep and was taking a left at a busy intersection. i clearly had enough time to make the turn, but as i was turning it sounded like my anti lock brakes were kicking in mid turn with a car coming right at us! i made the turn pulled over on the side of the road. all my gauges were dead, check engine light on and only the gear selector was visible. i have read on many jeep related forums, that this is not only happening to my jeep but many others! while reading i have noticed one thing. in many cases these problems were solved by replacing the ignition switch! after reading this i further researched the problem against recalls. i found that, according to the wall street journal, ny times, usa today and forbes, chrysler is allegedly recalling these vehicles with faulty ignition switches. so i called my local dealer. they looked my jeep up in their database and told me they're were no recalls on my vehicle and that they haven't recalled any vehicles for faulty ignition switches. i would appreciate it if the nhtsa could help with some of these problems and answer some of these question i and many others have. *tr

Jeep grand cherokee 2006. while driving car will fail to change gears. very dangerous on expressway. transmission stalls at will. *cn

I have a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. 2 months ago while driving the vehicle without warning the vehicle looses power. it seems to drop out of gear. the vehicle cannot accelerate and you have to pull over and hope it will kick back in gear. i spoke with another 2006 jeep grand cherokee owner and the exact same thing happens to him and also one of his friends. i went to edmunds.com and it seems this is a wide spread problem. we contacted jeep and they said sorry it is out of warranty. this is not an isolated safety problem. i hope you can protect the american citizen from the sale and future use of faulty automobiles. these vehicle problems should be address before people die. thank you. *tr

At a stop sign, short of the cross walk, with foot on brake pedal car in drive waiting for traffic to clear so i can turn right on to the primary street. remove foot from brake and 2006 jeep cherokee begins to move backwards. the is no incline or decline at this stop sign to allow for gravity to move car. had to re-apply brake, put car into park. shut off and restarted before proceeding. this same difficulty has now happened on at least 6 different occasions and dealer reports no mechanical issue evident to cause auto to move on its own in reverse. yesterday, in the omaha world herald paper a story appeared describing an accident with a 2005 jeep cherokee. *tr

While driving on the highway, my 2006 jeep grand cherokee laredo, jerked violently out of gear (almost into neutral?) and the engine light came on. the gear lights lit up and i had to manually shift it back into automatic. the dealership scanned the code & determined that it was a bad shifter control module. they said i could continue to drive it for a while but it would eventually need replaced. estimated cost for part $747(excluding $78 in labor). drove it but realized that it was happening more frequently, many times on the highways traveling at fast speeds. almost wrecked several times because the part malfunctioned when trying to slow down when the roads were snow covered & icy. this is a serious & potentially fatal safety problem for myself & others on the road that requires immediate attention. i am uncertain as to why chrysler has not recalled this part or atleast looked into it. i reported it to chrysler only to find out that they had no knowledge of the complaint. ?? there are numerous complaints from other owners that have had the same problem, yet no actions have been taken to remedy the issue. does there need to be a death to obtain a recall? i am certain that i will purchase a vehicle from general motors in the future if there is no corrective action taken. *tr

I have a 2006 jeep grand cherokee laredo, 3.7l v6. i have many problems with the transmission, first it was the shifter, second it was a solenoid problem, now i have a shutter and vibration as i am driving down the expressway. i have had it in 3 times now for the same problem. when the tranny starts to vibrate, i notice that the rpms go up about 2-3000rpms. took it back and the repair guy says that jeep has recalled the torque converters for a shutter problem and could replace it up 100k miles. i have over 100k and it will not get fixed under this recall or tsb due to mileage, i think someone needs to take a hard long look at the time that chrysler should have to replace at their expense. this issue has cost me well over $1000 so far and it is back in the shop for the same thing yet again today. *tr

The transmission in my 2006 jeep grand cherokee has been slipping. i had it checked out and i was told it is ok. then a few weeks later, i take off from a stop light and my engine revs to 3000 rpm and i am losing speed in heavy traffic. then the engine light came on. so i take it to the dealer. they check it out and tell me it is the electronics in the shifter that is bad. i ask what is wrong and the service advisor takes me to the mechanic. he tells me about the issue and says that they have seen alot of these issues and the back order on the part is 450 parts in the negative. i think this is a potential problem and should be investigated for a possible recall. *tr

Driving on the highway and the entire dash board lit up, blank a few times, and then went dark. nothing on the dash board was working (no mph, gas gauge, etc.). after a few minutes of blinking and going dark, everything begins to work again, but the check engine light comes on. this exact scenario has happened multiple times. usually the light will stay on from anywhere between 1-5 days and then go away. i have been dealing with this issue for over a year. in once instance, i was driving around the city going 10-15 mph and this scenario happened and the brakes were not working properly and the car was very hard to turn. everytime i have brought the car to the dealer they try to pull a code and nothing is available for them. at this point i am fed up so i am officially reporting the issue. it is completely unsafe to be driving when this happens, especially when you are on the highway. let's hope something is officially done before anyone gets hurt. *tr

I was recently driving on residential road going about 35mph under normal conditions and the automatic jeep grand cherokee laredo 2006 stalls. the check engine light appears. pressing on the gas pedal will rev the engine but it is like the jeep is in neutral. everything else seems to work accept the car is not in any gear. the dashboard indicates the car is in drive. i have to coast off to the side of the road. i turn the ignition off before restarting, then the car seems to run fine for awhile. this has happened 3 times over the last month. the first time i took the car into a local jeep dealer where they could only fine old codes in the jeep computer system noting inactive transmission problems which they since cleared and were unable to do much else. an error code for the o2 sensor was also found and the o2 sensor was replaced. i was told to try it out and let them know if it happens again. that was about 10 days ago. since then i have had two incidents that have occurred over this weekend, i have yet to contact the dealer which i plan to do this week. *tr

2006 jeep grand cherokee make a grinding noise while turning. consumer states that the mechanic could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. when noise occurred again it also made the entire front panel flash. *kb the dealer informed the consumer the tires had been rotated and the griding noise should cease. the consumer was told the transmission was leaking, so the dealer replaced the o-ring and a bushing. *jb

Transmission does not shift down when stepping on gas. most often in the 1200-1500 rpm range. vehicle tries to stay on same gear and is not shifting e.g. from 5th gear to 4th. if gas pedal is stepped on all the way, vehicle shifts down 2 gears, e.g. from 5th to 3rd, and spikes up to 6000 rpm. this takes about 1.5. seconds, leading to dangerous situations when changing lanes, entering a highway, or speeding away from critical situations. already experienced several severe close encounters. the spike in rpm will lead to property damage since the transmission will blow soon. *tr

Front and rear differentials. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 50 mph and depressing the brake pedal to stop, the vehicle would abnormally lunge forward. in addition, while driving highway speeds, the vehicle would sporadically fail. the contact took the vehicle to a dealer and they repaired the tcm. several weeks later, the failure recurred without any warning. she called the manufacturer and was referred back to the dealer. the dealer stated that if the diagnostic machine did not provide any codes, they could not successfully remedy the failure. the failure mileage was 17,000 and current mileage was 25,000.
