HEADLIGHTS 2 TURN SIGNAL 1

Recently reported EXTERIOR LIGHTING problems on 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

At random times while driving, while in park, and just after startup, all dashboard gauges, lights, and power goes out, headlights turn off, but the engine still runs. i cannot see what is in front of me at night, i cannot tell my speed, i cannot see my fuel level, etc. the outage lasts from 2-30 seconds before every single warning light will illuminate for a few seconds, or flicker on and off, and then return to normal. i replaced the ignition 2 years ago from a previous recall notice. this is extremely dangerous because i never know when it will happen, it could happen at night on a heavily trafficked street and i lose all power and lights!

The headlights and dashboard lights have started to flicker on and off. numerous times the headlights and dashboard lights have completely turned off while driving or even while parked/

While driving all the instrument / gage lights came on then went off several times, while this was going on the vehicle speedometer and tachometer went to zero stayed for a few seconds , long enough for me to pull to the side of the road, then resumed operating. not sure if direction lighting was responding on exterior of vehicle at the time. or head lights, as it was daytime. i had difficulty getting people to acknowledge as it's generally a very busy road traveled. meridian rd puyallup wa.

A lot of owners of the jeep grand cherokee are experiencing the same problem with the dim head lights and trouble starting the car . the car simply won't start you have to crank it about 20 times . the car will sometimes turn off while driving in the road

I stop the transmission start like slide and then 3 to four minutes a lot of smoke on my hood i stop open the hood it was oil everyware i was scare i think my charokee got flames so run to a house

The front headlights and all interior electronics including lights, gauges, radio, etc. shut off. this happens on initial startup at home and in city parking lots, also acted while the engine has been running in motion. the vehicle has to be turned off and back on repeatedly until lights and electronics begin functioning again.

2005 jeep grand cherokee. seems to be there's electrical issue all the dash lights would turn on turn off happened while i was driving on the freeway and had to come to a stop it stalled out it happened when i started up the car and i turned it off and took it to the shop two different times pretty much the same problem first time it has 68 codes reading off of it so they replace my battery the second time the lights will come on and go off and come on and then it wouldn't even go it was undriveable at that point so we took it to the shop and then a month later it's starting all over again i was driving down the road came to a stop light plied the brakes and then all of the sudden the gauges were going crazy. the idol was moving up and down the lights would come on and go off and it's all the lights not just air bag or anything like that it was all the lights. i read on the internet other people been having the same issue it's scary when somebody is explaining the same thing that's going on in your car. it is unknown at this time what this phantom problem is and it's highly dangerous. i also bought this jeep used and don't know it this was happening beforehand. *have a video but this site won't upload it.

Issue 1 - all the internal door handled have broken. this limits passenger egress in the even of an accident. issue 2 - this past weekend all the lights on the car flickered and briefly turned off while driving at night on the highway. this includes the headlights, parking lights, fog lights, and all interior lights. it appears there is a known problem with the light switch mechanism in the multi function turn signal assembly. this present a very dangerous situation if traveling on a two lane rural road. *tr

While driving, the instrument panel will flicker on and off, the heater/cooler blower shuts down, cuts out. the speedometer and tachometer quit working as well.

Exterior headlights and interior dash lights flicker on and off speratically. this happens while driving, stopped and even when parked. i have to toggle the light switch on and off to try and stop the flicker or even to get the lights to come back on because sometimes the lights stay off even when the switch is in the on position. this is extremely scary when driving at night and i'm sure it irritates the heck out of anyone who see's my lights flickering. they think i'm signaling them for some reason. really need a fix for this asap. hope daimler/chrsler isn't waiting for death/accident toll before they fix this issue. i have already had the ignition switch replaced per the recent recall and the problem with the lights persists.

Exterior headlights and interior dash lights flicker on and off speratically. this happens while driving, stopped and even when parked. i have to flick the light switch on and off to try to get lights to stay on. this is scary when driving at night and i'm sure it irritates the heck out of anyone who see's my lights flickering.

Takata recall. headlights randomly flicker or shut off while driving on highway

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the headlights turned on and off. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 106,000. the vin was not available. updated 1/20/16 ln the consumer stated the dealer could not duplicate the failure, but advised it could be the headlight switch. *js

My vehicle was driving fine, then all of the sudden i lost all lights, all ignition, a/c everything except the engine. i lost speedometer airbags. the car acted like it was shut off but the engine was still going. my ignition has had problems since august 2014 and i have been calling my dealer every week to find out about parts. the parts have taken longer than a reasonable time to become available. my car now lights up (every check engine, traction control, seatbelt, oil, airbag, every light on the dash) at least 3 times in a half hour period. was told by the dealer it was due to a faulty ignition. my car will not pass california smog with the check engine light coming on multiple times in my trip anywhere. i was told september 11th they would have the parts available. then it was moved to october 11th. chrysler needs to focus more on their customers safety and reliability of their vehicle. it should not take over a year to replace ignition.

While driving on the freeway at night my headlights started blinking on and off at a very fast pace. i could not get them to stop blinking. i was able to put my bright lights on and it stopped. this has happed many times over the past month. the cars in front of me think i am trying to make them pull over and let me by. this week my headlights came on during the daytime and they were in the off position. i never had them on. i am afraid to drive at night with this condition. my headlights come on when i use my key remote to unlock my doors. it is not set to do this and we can not get it to stop. when i turn the car off and back on again this will reset the headlights from blinking but they always start again while i am driving. i can not find anybody that knows what the problem is.

My jeep has been experiencing loss of power and restarting while driving down rt 80. almost got myself and my pregnant girlfriend killed when it just off and restarted, i called the dealer right away and they couldn't do anything due to lack of part, we only have one car and they would not grant me a loaner, this is very unsafe, the lights on the dash all flickered then car shut down and restarted instantly and i'm sure it's causing other damage to the vehicle. i took all the key chains off an it has helped, but it's been doing it a lot more lately and it's very unsafe, when will a part become viable ?! this is redicoulus and clearly chrysler doesn't care about your saftey!

I was pulling into my driveway and the vehicle shut off and the brakes would not stop and my car ran into my pump house. *tr

While driving on a remote state road at night, the headlights of the jeep grand cherokee went suddenly out. this put me in the situation of driving 65mph completely in the dark. i was able to stop the car without hitting something just by pure luck. after stopping the light came back on and kept flickering the rest of the way. a short investigation on the internet showed that this seems to be not an unusual problem with 2005 jeep grand cherokees. a loosening contact of the light switch seems to be the problem and jeep doesn't seem to care about it. *tr

I was driving and turned on the left turn signal, it was flashing extremely fast and after i made the turn we noticed that some of the interior dash lights were out. later that night after stopping and restarting the ignition a couple times things seemed back to normal but then it happened again. this has been intermittent since then, but now i have also been informed that i have no brake lights. i checked the brake lamps and they are good and the fuses are good too. i had my mechanic check out the multi-function headlight switch as that seemed to be where the issue was originating and they told me that this is the problem and it needs to be replaced. this is a very serious failure that could have lead to a tragic accident. i feel that there should be an investigation into this and jeep should replace these switches. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 50 mph, the instrument panel lights suddenly began to flicker off and on and the instrument panel gauges decreased to zero. the contact shut the engine off and restarted the vehicle. moments later, the failure recurred and the exterior lighting shut off while driving. the contact indicated that the failure occurred on multiple occasions. the dealer could not diagnose the cause of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at night, the exterior headlights, the instrument panel, and the tail lights became inoperable. also, the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was a power interruption. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure recurred several times. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 65,000.

The first incident 01/13/2015 occurred while driving at 15 mph, all lights flickered, hvac system shut off, radio turned off, every light on dash flickered on and off. on 01/14/2015 when vehicle was started, the radio turned off and on continuously, each time the blower on heater stopped. later in the day, vehicle was running while parked. all lights flickered off and on, radio turned off and on, and fuel monitor reading went to 7 miles left before needing fuel. vehicle had a full tank of gas. i am terrified to drive this vehicle now. losing electrical power while driving is a recipe for disaster. *tr

The first incident took place approximately on the above date. as my daughter, friends and i were pulling onto the road, i bumped the key with my knee and the vehicle shut off completely. everything went dead. i put it in neutral, turned the key, started it, and continued on. it has happened 3 times since then, twice with my daughter driving. we followed the recall posted by chrysler and removed everything from the key chain, moved the seat back, etc. (there is no fix offered for this). this past saturday night, 7/25/15, my 18 year old daughter was returning home from a friends house when she sneezed and as she was recovering and re-adjusting, she bumped the key and shut the car off. when this happens, everything is cut off. lights, brakes, gauges, everything. being dark, she could not see, could barely steer, brake, etc. and was basically "along for the ride". as she was in a left turn at the time, she pulled the wheel to the right to try and stay on the road and not go "beyond the turn" and crash. because the brakes were not working, she was going too fast, managed to get the car going to the right but ended up in a slide. the car slid sideways and then backwards, sliding off the road to the right side and onto a driveway where the driver side front wheel caught the culvert under the driveway, flipping the jeep onto the drivers side where it remained as it slid backwards for about 10 feet, stopping in a residents yard. thankfully, my daughter was able to climb up and out the passenger window, unharmed, go to a house and get help. because there is not a "fix" for this problem (chrysler admits this on the recall notice), i am out a vehicle because of a defect they can not/will not fix. because of the year model and mileage, i only carried liability insurance, so the damage to the vehicle will exceed the cost to repair. i feel chrysler owes me the replacement cost.

My 2005 grand cherokee has on several occasions turned itself off while driving down the road. the last time this happened was at night and raining and the windshield wipers, headlights and everything shut off for several seconds while driving down the road. because of this a tractor trailer pulled out in front of me with my children in the car and we were nearly killed. i had no lights, windshield wipers, the brakes and steering were very difficult etc. i took it to the dealer today and they stated that there is a recall for this however no fix for the issue at this time?!?!?!?! this is completely unacceptable as my vehicle is completely useless, it is not worth my families lives to take the chance of driving it.

Flickering on dash board. lights go off. no power. dealer, normandin chrysler jeep dodge ram, refuses to do p41 safety recall due to unknown reason. i'm willing to pay what ever it costs.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 30 mph, the lights and gauges on the instrument panel illuminated intermittently. in addition, the contact stated that the head lamps illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 46,000.... updated 06-02-15 *bf updated 10/05/2017*cn

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that when driving, the instrument panel electrical gauges and the headlights failed. the contact stated that the failures were intermittent. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 105,000.

Headlights began to flicker on and off- unable to see pedestrian - did not hit pedestrian but almost did-have contacted chrysler and milton ruben where i purchased car- they say they have no parts to fix it even though i received a recall notice september 2015 that said i would receive another notice- i have not received anything else-it is dangerous driving especially at night and when it is raining- is there anything i can do to get this safety recall fixed? thank you *tr

My lights both interior / exterior / gauges flicker on and off whenever the want to on their own. this is a serious problem driving at night

Intermittently, all lights flicker off and on. affected lights included external lights including headlamp, front & rear marker lights, lic plate illum; plus the internal lighting that included guages, dashboard panel lighting, etc. flickering headlights were serious distraction to motorists ahead of me and approaching, causing one other vehicle to go off the road. this jeep only has a little over 40k miles. after researching similar incidents online, owner ordered and replaced the turn signal multi-function switch assembly (mf switch), which cost $89.99 from advanced auto parts. after replacement of the mf switch, and reassembly of the steering column cover over the mf switch, then reconnecting the battery and a test drive, the problem appeared to be corrected. after over a month of driving subsequent to repair, the problem has not recurred. chrysler-jeep ought to be alerting customers of this common problem and replacing these defectiive mf switches to prevent incidents. since there are numerous complaints, the manufacturer could be culpable and liable. owners can do this repair themselves, but you need to get the right part for your options, as well as a couple of special screwdrivers that have the star type heads. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the instrumental panel, interior, and exterior lighting failed. the failures occurred intermittently. in addition, the vehicle stalled. the contact also mentioned that the interior passenger and both rear door handles fractured and detached. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the shifting cluster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the contact received nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the dealer stated that the parts would not be available until approximately september 2015. the manufacturer was made aware of the delay. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000.

2005 jeep has been slipping into neutral since february 2013. it caused me to have an accident because i couldn't get out of the way of rear-oncoming traffic. no major damage was done thankfully! a few weeks later i experienced a rollaway. i went into the sitter to pick up my son. after about 5 minutes of being inside i my jeep roll across the street! i go running outside, opened the door and pulled up the emergency break...just missing an embankment! since the "neutral" thing started i have had several service lights come on. my mechanic performed a diagnostic check and he said its all electrical. also, i've had issues with the front passenger window going up/down slower than the rest of the windows since 3 months into purchase. other issues are cracked door handles (both front doors), replacing taillight kit, ac switch-a few times as it would only work on high. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact was driving 55 mph when the headlight and the instrument panel lights failed completely. he was able to pull over and changed the settings for the headlights. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 75,000. the vin was unavailable.

I was driving the 2005 grand cherokee that we puchased and on the second day after purchasing the car at 80,000 miles the interior and exterior lights started flickering on and off and all the emergency light would come on. we took the vehicle back to the dealer we purchased from told them about the problem, so they ran a diagnostic on it and drove it and could find nothing wrong. now recently the problem started to worsen as my wife drives the car at night with our 3 year old daughter in the vehicle the light are flickering on and off then completely going blank and not coming back on. this is very unsafe and dangerous to have a vehicle that the headlights go off when needed especially driving down the dark roads of texas. something absolutely needs to be done immediately about this problem, everytime i take the vehicle to shop cant ever find anything wrong. this issue is putting my family and other family's at danger. we depend on our vehicle to be reliable and safe. i thought i was the only one experiencing this problem and that it was an electrical problem but it is obviously a defect on these 2005 vehicles. my vehicle is now at 90,000 miles and the issues have got worse. chrysler needs to do something about this immediately before is results in a fatality. *tr

Headlights begin flickering without any warning and then go out entirely. next day, headlights work again. this has happened on three separate occasions and is potentially a fatal problem since driver is suddenly driving in complete darkness.. my car is meticulously maintained at local 5 star jeep dealer. we brought the car to this same jeep dealer on two separate occasions to diagnose (each time for five days and mechanic drove car over 100 miles home at night) and no problem can be found. after conducting a google search, there are about 12 similar complaints from other owners of 2005 jeep grand cherokees. chrysler's position and the dealer's position is that if they can't find the problem, they can't fix the problem. that is not good enough. they should have issued a voluntary recall. nhtsa should now require a mandatory recall of all 2005 jeep grand cherokees. at a minimum, the likely components, e.g. headlight switch, control units and/or wiring harnesses should proactively be replaced. *tr

While driving my 2005 jeep grand cherokee laredo tonight the exterior and interior lights flickered on and off. the problem continued after turning the lights off and on. *tr

2005 jeep grand cherokee 3.7l v6 manual headlights flicker on and off when in the "on" position. safety hazard when driving at night with no street lights. head lights even flicker on and off when the switch is in the "off" position. no recalls are available for lights malfunctioning like this. *tr

While driving my 2005 jeep(with my 2 year old daughter in the back)on a friday evening my dashboard lights and headlights went nuts. they flashed on and off for about 30 seconds and it was pitch black-i was going about 60mph. i decided to take it really slowly but keep on driving,i had issues earlier this year with some shifting module.i really get freaked out about this stuff when my daughters in the car but it was fine for the rest of the weekend .then monday comes. i was on the highway doing about 70mph when it happened again. this time it was not my front lights but it was the dashboard again for about 2 minutes. i called chrysler because i have a power-terrain warranty i thought it my be covered. but i need to pay to have it diagnosed-not easy in december right before the holidays. the other problem is a "pop" or "lock" when i'm driving. it seems to be coming from the back. almost like the brakes locking???and again have to pay to just have it diagnosed. what happen to the public calling and explaining the issue and the tech saying"oh i know what that is"or "yea sounds like your blank is loose" i just bought this not even 2 years ago and already dumped over $1000 for parts. it seems like a lot of others are having these issues. diamler chrysler should recall these issues for safety purposes. *tr

I own a 2005 jeep grand cherokee that i purchased new. the turn signal switch is defective and continues to click and make noises everytime i turn my steering wheel. if you move the steering wheel in any direction the turn signal switch moves. i went to my local dealer where i purchased the vehicle and i am being told there are 785 of these switches on backorder and no date of resolution for this repair. i am worried that this switch will fail an cause some serious condition inside the steering column that won't allow me to safely operate the vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the headlights and interior lights turned on and off. the contact had to play with the switch to get the lights to turn back on. the dealer replaced an integrated power module but the failure continued. the contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000 and the current mileage was approximately 75,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at night the interior and exterior lights would fail simultaneously. he would have to use the high beam headlight switch until the lights would come back on. no repairs were made. his vehicle identification number was excluded from recall campaign id number 09e012000 (exterior lighting). the failure mileage was 40,000. the current was 49,000.

High mounted center brake light, wiring malfunction, complete light goes out , but no warning on the dash because the vehicle thinks its still working, move the wires it works but then stops working, i've noticed it on other chrysler type products . ex. durango. *tr

When starting ignition, wipers activate. while driving, headlights and instrument panel flash intermittently. when starting ignition and while driving, air conditioner blower shuts down, cuts out intermittently and blower, when operative, only works on high. sometimes switching to off and restarting or hitting a bump activates blower. at one time opening and closing the glove compartment activated blower but not any longer. passenger air bag lights continuously.

While driving the entire electrical system fails; lights start flashing, heat goes out, all system warning lights flash ( brakes, tire pressure, service 4 wheel drive system, check engine light comes on), i was able to continue to drive the car but the lights flashed continuously for approximately 15 miles. this has happened multiple times since i purchased the suv june 2005. the dealership runs test by say they cannot find anything wrong. i have read on the internet that this is happening to many owners of the 2005 jeep grand cherokee and the dealers and mechanics at the dealership cannot find anything wrong. this is a dangerous situation as many people also loose power and the suv shift into low gear. i am afraid to drive my jeep now because the check engine light keeps coming on and off. i am going back to the dealership again for some more stupid "i did not find anything wrong" statements. originally i was told it was because i had a remote starter so i has it disconnected and the problem still exists. *tr

The headlights and dashboard lights turn on and off while driving. on occasion when attempting to start the car the vehicle was totally dead. i had to replace the starter, only 29,000 miles on the car and was advised half of the starter was defective. the problem still continues. can only assume it is a wiring, electrical problem. the vehicle is a hazard as you never know when this will happen causing myself and other drivers to use caution around the vehicle. this vehicle is definitely defective and should not have left the factory floor. *tr

While driving at night, my lights flicker on and off. i have brought it back to the dealers service center on numerous occasions only to be told nothing was wrong. in september of 2007, the service center diagnosed the issue with a "multifunction switch fault." it occurred many times after and i was told again that nothing could be found. i just brought it back this week and was told something else was at fault and has to be replaced. it is extremely dangerous and something terrible could happen to me or someone else. *tr

2005 jeep grand cherokee limited. my right front directional stays on all the time. even when key is off. i took the bulbs out so battery would not go dead. i am driving without the front right directional. called dealer, they tell me the front control module is out of warranty, and if i buy one from ebay at $50 it may not work and has to be programmed at dealer. they are going to give me a discount price to repair of $603. i told them to order the part over a week ago, and today they told me it is on back order and they will call me when it comes in. is this a common problem, and if so shouldn't they have a part some where to repair it? thank you for your help. *tr

The multi-function switch on my 2005 grand cherokee jeep flickers on and off at times. it causes my headlights on my vehicle to go out during night time driving. i initially took it to the dealership for diagnostic and repair jan 2008. the part was ordered but never came in. i took it again to chrysler jeep dealership for the same concern and have learned that the part needed to repair my vehicle is on a national back order. this is a necessary part for safe driving at night. how can it be on back order unless it was something defective to begin with? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the headlights flickered on her vehicle, and would also turn off and not back on. the instrument panel lights would also flicker. on approximately 6-8 occasions, the vehicle would not start. the computer system was replaced and the starting failure was resolved; however, the headlights still flickered approximately 90% of the time they were activated. the vin was unknown. the current mileage was 52,000 and failure mileage was 38,000.

Dt*: the contact stated the illumination of the instrument panel flickered and failed on three separate occasions. the service brake warning light illuminated each time. on two of those occasions, the brake pedal went mushy, but began operating after the brake pedal was pumped several times. the headlights failed to illuminate on the last occasion while traveling 45 mph. the vehicle was returned to the service dealer three different times for service, but the problems continued. the manufacturer sent an engineer to inspect the vehicle.
