Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact had the vehicle repaired by an authorized dealer under nhtsa campaign number: 12v527000 (air bags ). after the repairs, the windshield wipers would not turn off, and the headlights would randomly turn on and off recurringly. the vehicle was taken back for a diagnostic test where the independent mechanic diagnosed that the inner body module needed to be replaced. the vin was not available. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was not available.

Windows don't work, door locks won't work, inside lights stay on..second time for this problem. *tr

Windows, door locks will not operate. cabin lights will not go out when headlights are on creating a dangerous situation. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, she noticed smoke emitting from underneath the dashboard. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. the mechanic stated that the wiring harness for the heater motor would have to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 79,915.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the check engine warning indicator remained illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the oxygen sensor and oxygen heater sensor were replaced. three days after the repair was performed the failure recurred. the dealer then updated the computer system, however the failure persisted intermittently. the dealer also informed the contact that the drives in the computerized system would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

I have replaced the ignition switch twice in one year (2014). i have purchased a re-manufactured engine 2014, shipped from texas to detroit, mi.

Defect in electrical wiring in driver-side door prevents windows from rolling down (a safety hazard) and doors from locking/unlocking. the back hatch will either remain in locked or unlocked mode depending on when the wiring fails (this model jeep does not include a manual way to use a key to unlock/lock the back hatch). if a pet was in the back of the suv that had a "pet fence", there would be no way to get the pet out of the vehicle (or luggage/cargo). this is especially concerning in the event of a rear end collision where the gas tank may catch on fire (current recall). the interior lights also stay on as if a door was open. turning off the interior lights prevents the speedometer/odometer/gauges/etc from illuminating at night. if the lights are not turned off, then all interior lights remain on causing a hazard at night as well. driver-side wiring was fixed in october of 2012. in september of 2013, the passenger-side wiring is causing the same problem - windows/door locks don't work and the interior lights stay on. this problem is not an anomaly. it is very concerning that the wiring can fail in both front doors within a one year period - creating safety issues. *jb

I purchased this vehicle september of 2013 and although i love this vehicle there is one thing that is so not right about it also. in the beginning the windows, door lock and electric windows would stop working then all of a sudden they are again. this vehicle was equipped with the most inadequate electric door unlocking system. there is this very thin wire very thin wire attached to this heavy metal thing that just sits in window. the wire comes apart so easy and it should not. now that i have owned the vehicle for almost a year now the problem has become worse over the months. you use to be able to open and close driver door and right away everything would start working again. now that it is hot outside i can not get it to work at all my windows stayed rolled down i can't adjust my mirrors and my electric door locks don't work for driver door. i feel that this is a safety hazard in so many ways. i have researched this this is common problem with all. *tr

I brought my 2004 jeep grand cherokee june 2004, barley used. i have repaired a lot of things under the hood especially with the sensors and the black harness wire in the drivers side door, it split in 2 and stopped running in the middle of traffic. i had to have it sliced and mended together, after 8 months recently, i had to repair the black wire again due to moisture setting in the tape and wires, i read on the internet chrysler should have never put the black or yellow where's in the door, because they bend and break. this caused my the lights to stay on and remote side mirrors not to work. the dash board meters went haywire, i had the alternator replaced, sensors and throttle body cleaned and replaced. the engine light stays on constantly now, giving codes of p0141, p0137 with bad fuel mpg. it rides like it is smothered in feathers. i was advised that it could be the fuel pump. i recently had the fuel injectors replaced, the engine light went out, for 2 day's and now back on. how frustrating after buying this car for $23,900 in 6/2004, i have paid an estimate in car repairs of $4-5000 so far. if chrysler knows about these problems they need to confess, and fix these problems with recalls. please look into these issues. i am sure others are suffering too. *tr

Engine light keeps coming on all codes are checked, repaired, replaced. pcm has been replaced twice and was told that it is in need of replacement again! could there be an internal problem with the computer system? *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the interior lights, stereo, and all four power windows failed. the contact also stated that all four doors failed to lock. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

I was driving on the mass turnpike and all instrument panel gauges stopped registering, abs and brake lights starting blinking, cd player stopped working, and ac stopped. we shut off the ac, headlights and radio within 10 minutes everything seemed to reset but this is a very dangerous condition at highway speeds. *tr

Drivers door lock button would not work, rolling locks in-operable no windows work with drivers door open while in park or any door open dome light would not time out unless vehicle running drivers door closed and exit passenger door after shutting the vehicle off. took to dealer after we had replaced the switch unit and latch to the drivers door, dealer found a broken wire in drivers door jam. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee laredo. the contact stated that the driver side door locks, interior lights and the window failed. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

2004 jeep grand cherokee ran the day before, after it rained that night the next morning the car will not start, remote started to work no sound, lights would go off & on, after locating the harness boot between the drivers door negative wiring fatigues and breaks, heard clicking sounds when boot was touched. now nothing works. car has been repaired for other major issues, pcm, tps, senoids, barrons etc. this is a defect & chrysler needs to face up to correcting their faulty wiring, and not leave it up to the consumer to fix on there own, were are not mechanics, from reading all the complaints on the web, it makes me wonder why jeep is still in business, great bodies but no peep inside, all the wiring in the drivers side door harness is ridiculous & is an accident waiting to happen for the consumer. these wires should never been bunched together which is allowing friction when opening & closing the door causing burn outs & shorts with the wiring "shame on you chrysler." *tr

Electric windows and locks stopped working. found broken wire in driver side door harness. repaired the wire and then rf door harness wires broken. repaired those wires and now harness contact in rf door panel connection is faulty. window and locks do not work unless you wriggle connector. rr door does not lock. replace window and door switch but did not solve the problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the electrical system failed, which caused different components such as the door locks and windows to become inoperable. the vehicle was not diagnosed. the contact repaired the vehicle. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v673000 (air bags); however, the dealer was attempting to make the contact pay a diagnostic fee to have the vehicle repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown. parts distribution disconnect.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the interior lights illuminated independently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was not able to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 120,000. the vin was unavailable.

No power to windows, locks and mirrors on doors. there is a wire on the inside of the drivers door that splits in half for no reason preventing anything on the doors to work. i cannot open any windows, un/lock any doors, or adjust my mirrors. this has not been recalled but is a very common problem with this vehicle. i feel this is a safety hazard. *tr

Lights went haywire in the car as well as the locks on the windows and doors i.e., all of the locks do not work on with the remote, the side mirrors don't move, and the windows do not move up or down. after the headlights are on, the interior lights dim to where they cannot be seen. from an internet search, this is a common problem that cost $275 to repair. i took my car in today for service and was told $112 to look at the car that could be used towards the cost of the repair. according to the internet search the problem will be from a damaged wire in the door that will need to be repaired/replaced. *tr

The windows and interior lights stopped working. when we pulled into the garage we noticed sparks near the door hinge. two factory wires were broken and making contact, which was causing the arcing. a jeep mechanic told me that nothing was being done about this defect, and that he has seen at least 2 a month with this defect. if any fumes from the fuel were present you would have a fire. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs under nhtsa campaign id number: 09v117000 (seats: front assembly: seat heater/cooler). the vehicle began to exhibit several electrical failures within the turn signals, hazard lights and the heater fan. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the electrical window motor, turn signals and hazard light electrical sensors were replaced. the heater fan was not repaired. the failure mileage was 68,000 and the current mileage was 71,058.

2004 jeep grand cherokee se 4.0l all gauges bounce and stop working and the truck start slowing down at 60mph had to pull over to the left shoulder. then the truck would not restart for 15min just as a toll truck was pulling up. called the dealer and they say if the truck is running now there is nothing we can do unless it is not running. now the window and door locks does not work. the interior lights stay on. after reading some other post on the web this is a known issue. it seem like there a problem with the wiring in the driver side door harness where one of the wires break away from the harness. after reading the below post jeep has done nothing to fix the problem. this is a know problem for many years. just read the below post. http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/jeep-grand_cherokee/04_jeep_grand_cherokee_electrical_problem. *tr

2004 jeep cherokee, twice now the fuse to the fuel injector has blown within a month rendering the car undrivable. going down the road the car cuts off, you cannot steer it, and the brakes seem not to work well at all, you practically have to stand on them. this nearly got me hit today going through a red light. the first time it happened, i was going down a hill and barely got the car stopped before hitting a tree. i had it towed to a mechanic, he changed the fuse and thought that it was ok, until today. two years ago, the wiring to the windows and door locks quit working and had to pay to have that replaced, there is definitely something not right with these vehicles. years ago, i had an acceleration problem, got stuck, finally got control of it, and the check engine light stayed on, took it to the dealership, they said they couldn't find anything wrong, never could tell me why the check engine light had come on after this occurring. *tr

2004 jeep grand cherokee limited - passenger side front power window stopped working. also blower on heating/ac unit works intermittently. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated while driving at speeds of 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. after several attempts, the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the dealer performed a diagnostic and discovered that the crankshaft position sensor had failed due to excessive moisture. the contact was able to locate nhtsa recall campaign id number 04v112000 (electrical system: starter assembly) and inquired with the manufacturer who advised the contact that his vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was left in possession of the dealer who was replacing the crankshaft position sensor at the owner's expense. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileages were 123,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the driver's side wiring harness fractured and caused all the electrical components in the vehicle not to work. the contact stated that the same failure occurred four times. the vehicle was taken to park chrysler jeep (1408 highway 13 west, burnsville, mn 55537) where the driver's side wiring harness was replaced; however, the same failure occurred several years later. the manufacturer was contacted and was unable to assist. the vehicle was also taken to several independent mechanics, but was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

The electrical system is not working on my 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the gauges for the seatbelt and air bag stay on. the power windows and break lights work sporadically. i have taken my vehicle to various service providers to check it and i keep getting the same results. the symptoms are fixed temporarily. i have contacted jeep without success and they have no record of any recalls on this type problem. *tr

2004 grand cherokee. consumer states pulse module problem. *tgw the consumer stated the air conditioning unit ceased to function. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the problem was diagnosed as a bad plug connector. they repaired the connector by cleaning and re-installing the pins at a cost of $170.00. shortly thereafter, the unit once again ceased to function. the consumer stated he had to wiggle the plug in order for it to work and it only worked intermittently. the consumer was informed a repair kit was available with replacement parts. the dealer informed the consumer they would ship the parts to his hometown. it took approximately 2 1/2 months for the parts to arrive only after numerous phone calls. upon inspecting the malfunctioning parts, the consumer found that they were badly burned and the wires were melted. *jb

The wires in the wiring harness that goes through driver door get frayed with time from normal door opening and closing. this disables all power windows, doors, mirrors, etc in the car. even affects instrument cluster. re-opening and closing door may result in continued operation of power windows, mirrors, etc, but it is unpredictable. *tr

2004 jeep grand cherokee with 46,636 miles out, no power in driver door to the door locks, extra mirrors or dome lights. broken wire was found in wire boot between door and auto body. wire failed due to metal fatigue of faulty wire that should have never been used in this location. *tr

First started in nov 2009 driver side door controls won't work, dome lights go on with headlights, repaired broken wire. june 2010, drivers door is inoperable window stuck down, cannot lock doors, repaired wiring harness in door. dec. 2011 windows and door locks were inoperable. - made wiring repair., jan 2013 door locks and windows inoperable, dome light stays on while driving or else you loose control panel lights.-repaired door harness in rr and rf doors-was told this is last time they can repair harnesses and next time this happens it will cost $2,000 to replace all wiring. this seems ridiculous and the dealership mentioned they have had this problem before with jeeps. i do not see how this should keep malfunctioning if no damage or abuse has happened to the vehicle. i believe jeep should stand behind their vehicle and repair the wiring harness at no charge until they come up with a better system of wiring harnesses through the doors. *tr

Car keeps cutting off while driving. has done it several times on highway, rural roads and main roads. it has caused me to almost have several wrecks. when the car cuts off, i lose all power. i have been stranded several times with my autistic son. i have had to walk back home or get someone to come get me if it was further away. i have had to use someone car because i am afraid it will do it and i will wreck. after a while it will start again, but does the same thing over and over again. it started off about 1 month ago when i would just crank the car and the first time it would not crank but the 2nd time it would. in the last 2 weeks i have been stranded or be driving and have to put it in neutral to see if it will crank. it does and then i put in drive. it cuts off again. i have to pull over to the side of the road no matter where you are and sometimes if you are going on the highway at the speed and your car cuts off, you lose power and could easy wreck. if i was to pull out and it cut off, i could be hit and killed or a family member in the car with me. i was stranded across the street about 2 weeks ago and i was across the street from a jeep dealership. a gentleman came over and brought some equipment when i told him what had happened and he told me that the crank shaft sensor went out. there is a recall on that part but not on mine. i have talked to the daimler chrysler on december 29, 2009 and told them of the incident and was given a case number and was told someone would call me back. a gentleman did call back and left me a message that they had made a decision. i was not at the phone at the time he left the message. he left his name and number and i have called back. he was suppose to call me back the following day and he did not. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that when attempting to start the vehicle it exhibited a no-start condition. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection. the technician concluded that the cause of the failure was the crank shaft sensor. he then added that his vin number was excluded from recall # 04v112000 (electrical system: starter assembly), so the component would have to be replaced under warranty. the failure and current mileages were 71,000.

1) first, the car cranks (ignition) slowly and then stopped cranking. 2) after ignition is turned off or car stalled, car doesn't start any more. need to wait for about 15 to 30 min. before car starts again. first intermittent, now almost every time. the consequence is that we blocked railway crossings, driveways, intersections and so on. this is a serious safety concern ! 3) - on 8/14/09, the battery was diagnosed to be bad. replaced, didn't fix the problem. ($200) - on 8/18/09, the car was in the shop again, but maintenance guy couldn't find anything since it was intermittent. ($0) - on 9/1/09, the car was in the shop again. this time some warning lights came on. (trans temp, check gauges) this time they found that (possible) transmission temperature range sensor would not allow startup. transmission service was recommended and performed but didn't fix the problem. ($385) - later in october, the car was in the shop again. for 2 weeks without success. dealer mentioned that he was only able to reconstruct the failure once. daily testing didn't show the problem any more. car was picked up on 10/26/09. since that time, the car is having the problem more than 50% of the time. seems that the car need to be driven at least several miles until the problem shows up. - on 10/31/09, car will go to shop again. *tr

Wiring harness located between front door and frame inside rubber tubing is made of inferior materials and cracks with time exposing wiring causing a safety issue. specifically, the black neutral wire and orange wires have been cracking on dozens, if not thousands, of jeep grand cherokees (as seen here: http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/jeep-grand_cherokee/04_jeep_grand_cherokee_electrical_problem). when this occurs, the wiring becomes exposed and/or breaks. in my case when this occurred, the drivers side door controls ceased to operate causing the windows and door locks to be unresponsive. in addition this causes the interior lights to turn on when the headlamps are on causing difficulty driving in night time conditions. finally, this fault may be the cause of the drivers side brake light to fail when headlamps are on. this issue can be temporarily corrected by splicing the existing wiring harness. however, a more permanent solution would be to replace the entire wiring harness as other wires could deteriorate. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to turn on. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 50,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the wiring harness is located on the driver's side door, but the harness is too small to sustain all the wires. when the door is opened, the wires come out of the harness and break, which causes the locks and interior lighting to fail. the interior lighting remains illuminated. if the contact turns off the interior lighting while driving at night, she is unable to see the instrumental panel. the repair would cost $400. a report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that they will not charge her the total cost for the repair. the dealer will replace the wires and harness at the cost of $100. the failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 55,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle does not have air bags and the horn does not sound. the vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic, who stated that the vehicle was previously involved in a crash. the dealer from where the vehicle was purchased would not assist with any repairs. the contact was concerned with the safety of the vehicle. the failure and current mileages were unknown. updated 04-14-09 *bf the consumer stated the air nag light was on the day she test drove the vehicle. updated 04/16/09.*jb

I own a 2004 jeep cherokee which has an electrical issue where the power windows, door locks and everything on the drivers side door control panel do not work as well as the interior lights do not turn off, all causing a safety issue.i found out this is a known issue with jeep cherokees due to the wiring inside the front drivers side door. i had this issue in 2009 after at about 46,000 miles. when calling the dealership i was told that this is a known issue and the dealership give me an exact price over the phone as they knew of this issue. since the dealership was very rude and price was very high.i had the repairs done at a highly regarded repair shop which specializes in electrical work which cost $201 but now (at 80,000 miles) the exact same issue has happened again due to the opening and closing of the front drivers side door. the wiring harness is located on the driver's side door, but the harness is too small to sustain all of the wires. when the door is opened, the wires come out of the harness and break, which causes everything on the drivers side door panel not to work. this includes the power windows, door locks, interior lights and power mirrors all of which cause a safety hazard. i believe that this should be a recall for jeep that they should fix free of charge especially since this is a known issue. i feel that it's very reckless of jeep to not recall this known safety issue and allow their customers to drive with windows and door locks that to not work or interior lights that do not turn off. in order to turn off the interior lights i had to remove the fuse which can be very dangerous at night and makes it very difficult see any of the instruments. this car is used by my handicapped wife and due to this issue i will not let her drive at night as i feel this car is very unsafe in it's current state. *tr ...video available

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 jeep grand cherokee. when the contact started the vehicle, she noticed that all of the interior lighting illuminated. when she turned off the lights, all of the illuminated equipment failed, including the power windows and locks. the failure prevents the contact from viewing the instrument panel, which makes it impossible to view the speedometer and fuel gauge while driving at night. the vehicle has not been inspected or repaired. the contact called the manufacturer and was informed that no compensation would be offered because there were no recalls. the failure mileage was 92,000 and current mileage was 100,000.
