This is a complaint on the daimler chrysler dealership that i went to have the electric radiator fan replaced due to the safety recall f25. i made an appointment for 8:00 am at south bay chrysler jeep dodge on 20900 hawthorne blvd., torrance, ca 90503. based on the letter i received i knew service would take approx 1.5 hours. the service manager raymond told me it would be ready in 2 hours. i told him that i had a business appointment at 2:00 pm that i could not miss and i was reassured that my car would definitely be ready in time. when my vehicle wasn't ready at 12:00 pm, i called the dealership only to be treated very rudely by the service receptionist. i was told they hadn't even started working on my car and that raymond went to lunch and i would have to wait until he returned at 1:15 pm to get an update. i told her that was unacceptable, that it had already been 4 hours and i needed my car. she told me that i could come get my car because they hadn't started working on it yet, but without being serviced. i was okay with that. once i got to the dealership, i was told that my car was completely taken apart and undriveable. i was left stranded. a two hour job turned into a 9 hour job and it severely affected my time. i was not offered an apology, yet was treated very rudely for being a nuisance to them. *jb

I own a 2002 jeep grand cherokee. it started to overheat, leak and smoke, coolant fan broke and tore right through the cover. i now need repairs totaling approximately $2600 due to the coolant fan malfunctioning. i thought i could get it repaired at the dealer for no cost since there was a coolant fan recall on this particular vehicle because i have the same year, make and model. i was told that even though there was a recall on the same suv that i have, my vin number was not included in the recall, therefore there is nothing that can be done for me. due to the coolant fan breaking, i need a new cylinder head, radiator, cooling fan motor and coolant fan realignment. i have to pay for all of this myself just because they did not include my vin number in the recall. *jb
My wife & i own a 2002 jeep grand cherokee that we purchased new. we had overheating problems with the vehicle and took it to our chrysler dealership june 23, 2006 to have it repaired. the dealership determined that among other things, the cooling fan was not working properly and needed to be replaced. i had researched the problem and learned from your website that on june 6th,, 2006 chrysler group announced that it was recalling our jeeps cooling fan for potential separation of the fan blades (attachment). i told our repair advisor of the announced recall and despite having an unrelated problem with the fan i didn't want to pay to replace a part that chrysler was going to replace per the recall. he told me that because chrysler had not completed the administration of the recall i would have to cover the cost of repairs but would be reimbursed when the recall made it through the system. on august 30, chrysler completed the administration of the recall; i followed the instructions for reimbursement and was reached by a chrysler customer service representative by telephone. the representative stated that i was not going to be reimbursed for repairs because the recall notification occurred august 30 and i had replaced the recalled fan june 22nd for an unrelated problem. i stated that the recall was announced june 6th; i replaced the fan after that date; my statement fell on deaf ears. i believe chrysler is failing to live up to the recall; chrysler should reimburse me for the replacement of the cooling fan plus labor because i had replaced it at my expense more than two weeks after the recall was officially announced. i should not be castigated because chrysler took greater than two months to administer the recall. please contact me with what you feel is the proper remedy. *jb
My jeep grand cherokee cooling fan blades came off of the cooling fan and struck the shroud causing it to break apart while i had the hood open checking the engine, luckily i was not injured by the flying debris. *jb

Safety recall f25-electric radiator fan. *nm
I was driving and felt a bump. i stopped and got out and looked under the vehicle, behind the vehicle and in front of the vehicle and a fellow motorist looked and saw a piece of black plastic in the street under and pointed to it. got back in the vehicle and drove to my destination and parked, came back and cranked it up and was pulling out, noticed what looked like smoke was coming from the vehicle and the temp gauge needle went into the danger zone. after noticing this i started heading to the dealership, but stopped to keep from during any further damage and called a wrecker. upon arrival at the dealership i informed them what happened. after they examined the vehicle, they informed me that the fan had broken and knocked a hole in radiator and broke the fan shroud. *jb

2002 laredo engine light and service light illuminated. *ts when the consumers vehicle was returned to him, the engine light was still on and other problems had surfaced. the consumer believed the dealership didn't do anything to the vehicle but create more problems. *jb the vehicle used excessive amounts of antifreeze. the transmission malfunctioned. the four wheel drive could not be used. the check engine light and coolant light remained illuminated at all times. the head gasket blew. while the consumer's foot was on the brake pedal the vehicle would accelerate suddenly. the ses light has been illuminated since the vehicle was purchased. *nm
vehicle low coolant light came on, checked fluid level it was low. oil pressure dropped drastically. normally indicates ~40 psi while at operating temperature, it now indicates 10 psi at idle, in drive. at start up, when engine is hot, the oil pressure gauge will not move until the throttle is depressed. my local repair shop owner called a local jeep shop who informed him that the head was probably cracked, and that leaked coolant internally, causing the cam and or main bearings to wipe out, indicated by the oil pressure readings being low. according to the jeep service shop, this is a known defect with the 6 cylinder engine. i then took the vehicle to a chrysler 5 star service center. after explaining everything to the service manager, he said they would check it out but that he had heard of no such problem regarding this motor. the next day, he called to inform me that the motor did have a cracked head and that they would be replacing it under warranty. when i asked him about possible damage to the lower half of the motor he stated that there was no way of knowing that coolant leakage had caused the problem, that chrysler would not warranty replacement of the engine, and that 3-5lbs of oil pressure is acceptable at idle, 10psi being normal for this motor. i contacted chrysler corporate via email - response- they were sorry i was dissatisfied and that "intermittent problems are difficult to diagnose..." - follow up phone call yielded the exact same response. i am concerned that once the head assembly is replaced, both the dealer and chrysler will try to ignore the low oil pressure problem until the vehicle is beyond warranty coverage, absolving them of any responsibility to repair it further. this is also a major safety issue with this vehicle. should the engine fail, a serious multi vehicle accident may result from motorists passing thru the resulting oil slick, especially in a congested highway situation. it is my opinion that chrylser knows of this defect. *jb
I have a 2002 jeep grand cherokee 6 cylinder 4.0. yesterday my cooling fan blew up for no apparent reason, damaging radiator and area around cooling fan. this is an extremely dangerous problem since if the hood was up at the time the fan blew up, someone could have gotten maimed or killed. this is the same issue as reported on your january listing of problems. *jb
2002 grand cherokee transmission slipped into second and third gear. *ts ***nar*** the problem was diagnosed as a transmission governor sensor. one year later, the coolant light illuminated even though the coolant was full, the oil pressure gauge went all the way too high and stayed there, the dealer stated it was a bad sending unit. the engine light illuminated, when the vehicle misfires, a popping sound comes through the radio whenever it is turned on. the transmission has started to slip again. *jb

Dt: the consumer stated that there was a nhtsa engineering analysis ea05020 concerning the engine and engine cooling fan. the consumer's vehicle manifested the same problems as indicated in this analysis. the fan of the motor exploded, resulting in extensive damage to the radiator. the vehicle was towed to a dealership, where it is currently being repaired for this problem. *ak (11/23/05) the steering was noisy and would grind on high idle, the vehicle would shake when braking due to the front disc pads wearing low and the front rotors and the pinion seal leaked. *sc
Driving at approximate speed of 35 mph, i heard a loud boom (like something had hit the car), i stopped and checked and saw nothing. all gauges displayed normal ranges and i checked all fluids and visually looked around the engine area from the top. everything appeared normal, but six days later without further noise or warning signs the engine temp peaked max, while sitting in a parking lot. tested the engine as directed per the manual and no good. a tow was initiated to a repair shop the end result was the fan had broken into pieces and gone into the radiator and through to another section. total cost of repair was over $1500 and i am still have problems with leaking transmission fluid that is being addressed all related to the fan coming apart and flying into other engine parts. *nm

This is my 4th jeep. here is a little background on this issue. i purchased a 2002 jeep grand cherokee, the overland edition. the dealership pushed buying a used certified jeep vehicle! they mentioned the extended warranty that would take care of any issues that the jeep had during the last years of my ownership. i went in the dealership looking to purchase a new vehicle but they told me all the added benefits / value from buying from the used jeep facility! the warranty: as mentioned i purchased the warranty sold by jeep at the local dealership. the service agreement that was sold by the dealership went bankrupt! gary miller chrysler jeep isuzu located in erie, pa sold this to me. my 1st issue was when i decided to take the vehicle in because of a vibration while driving. i was made aware that the company was bankrupt when tying to call and find out what information will be needed when i go to the local jeep dealership in kansas city. furthermore i mentioned to the jeep dealership that pushed the contract that i am wiling to purchase the best contract to make sure i do not have an issue with my new vehicle in the future. the constant issues: i have now taken in my jeep for 6 visits! i have only included some of the payments (see the additional paperwork) but you can see a trend here. this jeep had been nothing but a problem since i purchased the vehicle! i am now stuck replacing the steering pump for the 2nd time! i have to pay for the replacement and live without a vehicle. i am out several thousand dollars and still have to take this vehicle (that jeep pushed on me) to the service shop about every 6 months. i just started driving my vehicle from the last service repair (i am getting very familiar to the local jeep dealerships) and still the item is not fixed and my jeep is leaking oil all over our company driveway. this vehicle is a lemon and the company that made the vehicle sold me a bankrupt contract. *nm
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 jeep grand cherokee. on september 20, 2005 the radiator fan failed while driving 20 mph. the contact stated that the vehicle began to make loud noises when the the electric radiator fan fractured and separated into 50 pieces. she took the vehicle to a mechanic and had the radiator fan repaired. afterwards, the contact received safety recall # 06v199000 regarding engine and engine cooling:cooling system:fan, and would like to be reimbursed. the dealer stated that the vehicle hasda hole in the radiator, and her request was denied because the failure was previously repaired. the current mileage is 70,000, and failure mileage was 65,000. the radiator failed at both mileages.*ak
i own a 2002 jeep grand cherokee. about a week ago while driving i heard a loud pop come from the engine. when i stopped to examine the problem, i saw a large leak coming from the bottom of my car. after looking under the hood, i saw that the plastic cooling fan in my engine had shattered and the pieces punctured my radiator. the shroud covering my cooling fan had also been shattered. i immediately took the jeep to my local chrysler dealer (whom i bought the car from). after looking at it they told me there was major damage caused by this incident. in addition to needing a new cooling fan, shroud and radiator, i also needed a new head gasket because the car had overheated. i believe there was a defect with the plastic fan which led to the damage to my car. i have contacted chrysler about this situation and they said there is nothing they will do. i would appreciate your prompt attention looking into this matter. thank you. *jb
Dt consumer stated the engine failed on september 16, 2005, the oil pressure dropped to zero while on a hill, all types of noise came out of the engine. consumer stated they had the vehicle towed to a dealer, and dealer said there was sludge build up inside the motor. consumer a has used the proper oil as stated in the owners manual. consumer contacted the manufacturer, they said there was nothing they could do. they claimed it was not from changing the oil at chrysler. however, consumer stated they had records for the oil changes at their local mechanic. *ak

While i was driving vehicle on wednesday, august 31, slight vibration was noticed. while my wife was driving vehicle on friday, september 2, a loud pop was heard, sound similar to that of metal expanding when heated. the air conditioner quit working at this time. when i drove the car on sunday, september 4th, the vehicle overheated and upon raising the hood, saw that the fan was gone and pieces of the covering of the radiator were broken and missing. *nm
While stopped in a parking space, check gauge light came on. vehicle temperature gauge was at 260 degree. i shut off engine and opened hood. the electric fan had shattered and put a hole through the fan shroud and the radiator. parts of the shattered fan were lodged in the serpentine belt pulleys. vehicle was towed to repair shop where mechanic said that the exact same thing happened one week before to an identical 2002 grand cherokee laredo. (same year and motor).my vehicle is now in a jeep dealership. i am awaiting determination as to whether or not repairs are covered under an extended warranty i purchased. upon returning home, i went on line to investigate and found out that the nhtsa was conducting an investigation based on other owners complaints that their electric cooling fans had shattered and punctured the fan shroud and radiator. vehicle was purchased new and is a 2002 jeep grand cherokee with 6 cylinder engine. *jb
