Problems with 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee SEATS

On average, the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the SEATS and its various aspects after 103 222 miles.

Recently reported SEATS problems on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Heated seat in my 2001 jeep grand cherokee was not working. i checked with my jeep dealer to find out that there was a recall on some jeep for this problem do to the potential of the heater starting a fire. my jeep did not fall into this recall. i am a diesel tech and decided that i would purchase a new heated seat element and install it my self. i did this today 02-21-2010 and found that the heating element had burnt and started to burn the seat cushion. i found this to be very disturbing. i believe the recall should be looked into. i have since disconnected both heated seats in my jeep. *tr

Driver's seat has sheared off. *tr

Drivers side front seat brackets broken causing unstable situation with seat. acts like a rocking chair. seems to be a common problem with this type of vehicle. *tr

Owner of 2001 jeep gr cherokee laredo. i wish to file this complaint about the driver's seat. started out with an annoying squeak and some popping on entrance, exit, acceleration, and braking of vehicle. within 1 mth of noticing this problem the front bolt broke away from the seat frame and metal then it went to the back right bolt. i have attempted to get this welded and was told it was too involved, i tried searching the junk yards for a used seat and apparently these seats are hard to come by, and have also spoke with the dealership in regards to getting this fixed and i was quoted a price but told no guarantee with the repair and the part was on a backorder. to date i have not been able to find the replacement or fix causing me not to pass inspection (when the inspector got in to check something else he wound up in my son's car seat.). i have had to put wooden blocks underneath but it still rocks back and forth. *tr

My seat heater got so hot while i was driving...i had to pull over and lift my leg (im an amputee) off the seat...felt like my pantyhose were melting...2001 jeep cherokee limited...inspector found burnt wires...but when chrysler contacted me...they said my jeep was "made in the factory" where they were recalling this same issue. *tr

2001 jeep grand cherokee - front driver leather seat completely broke from the track. i have owned this vehicle for 1 year. when i bought the jeep i heard squeaking below the chair, but naturally the dealer told me not to worry about it. 1 year later the seat came apart. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo. the contact stated that the front driver seat had become detached. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the defective seat needed to be replaced but there were no parts available since the seat was on backorder. the dealer was contacted who did not offer any assistance because the vehicle was not under warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage is 170,000. updated 05/05/11 *lj updated 05/13/11

The driver's seat broke on my 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited. this seems to be a common problem with jeep customers. this is a safety issue if it happens when someone is driving. *tr

Drivers side seat brackets broken. very dangerous to drive. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. while seated in the front drivers side seat the heated seat overheated and stopped functioning. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 09v117000 (seats:front assembly:seat heater/cooler) that may be related to the failure. the dealer was made aware of the failure and stated the vin was not included in the recall. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

My driver's seat started to feel loose and tilted toward the right and was squeaking. it was like that for a few months and this past weekend, i heard a pop and the bracket that holds my seat to the floor tracks broke. it is now only supported by three welds and the seat tilts every time i turn a corner, accelerator or brake. *tr

The driver's side seat is not securely anchored to the vehicle. upon inspection it is obvious the manufacturer used poor welding or has instituted a poor design to anchor the seat properly. the seat itself is still in good condition, however, it rocks unsafely and will not provide adequate protection in the event of an accident. apparently this fault is well documented by other jeep owners as evidenced by the testimonials found at http://vlane.com/poll/30. the seat integrity was compromised by employees at jim click jeep in tucson, az, after i had the vehicle serviced for a transmission fluid change. i noticed it rocked unstably after they returned the vehicle to me and rather then address it with them immediately, i drove the vehicle off the lot since they had taken longer than promised to service my jeep and i was late for an appointment. when i called the service department later, they said it happens all the time to vehicles like mine, confirmed there was no recall to fix them, and they weren't liable for the repair. *tr

The driver's seat frame failed. prior to investigating why the seat back wobbled and did not offer support while driving. i contacted the local jeep dealer where the unit was purchased. they told me i needed a new seat frame assembly. i asked if there were any complaints or recalls, they replied with "none". the vehicle is primarily driven by my wife and has only 45,000 miles and change on it. the dealer told me the cost of the seat frame assembly would be about $1200 not including labor to remove the covering and replace the frame. etc. the dealer offered no financial assistance saying that the vehicle was out of warranty. i took the vehicle to a local repair shop and they stripped off the covering revealing a cracked bottom seat frame. they ordered a jeep bottom seat frame at a cost of $363.75 and charged me labor of $281.00 to strip off the covering, install the seat and recover accordingly. also, to compound the aforementioned neither the driver's side or passenger side height adjustments function. this is not a result of the seat frame as stated above. is there any assistance you can render in terms of reimbursement? i can provide photos of the failed seat frame assembly as well as copies of the monies paid to take care of the repair. ii have researched this problem extensively on the internet and there are volumes of similar complaints. a serious residual of this seat frame failure has resulted in the seat totally collapsing to the rear with a sudden stop or impact leaving the driver in a dangerous reclining position. it's unfortunate that perhaps not enough people who have experienced this problem may not have taken the time to report it to the proper agencies or authorities. please help before someone is hurt or killed. *tr thank you.

Drivers seat frame has broken from normal use. *tr

At approximately 89,000 miles, the driver's seat track broke on the left front corner on a weld. dealer said new seat track would have to be purchased. we had the broken area re-welded. at approximately 185,000 miles a different component on the left front corner also cracked, not near a weld. this is extremely dangerous, since the entire seat rocks about and the driver is unable to accurately apply the brakes. it's unbelievable that a recall has not been initiated, considering the frequency with which this issue occurs. *tr

The seat frame on my 2001 jeep broke. the car has not been in an accident. the frame seems to be too weak. in an accident it could break and cause extra injuries to driver or passenger. this seems to be a common problem. *tr

Driver side seat mount broke (lower left side) and left back support mount broke. *tr

Driver's seat broke away from the seat frame when driving after applying brakes. *tr

Rear brake and safety lights on 2001 jeep keep not working flaw in workmanship and construction of assembly. driver seat coming lose at base brackets that slid the seat back and forward. window lifts break constantly. blower door brakes ceasing defrost and windows fog during cold days. *tr

I have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo and while driving on the highway the drivers seat just snapped causing me to fall in the rear seat.. i lost control and drove off the right side of the road into the woods thankfully not hitting anything nor doing anymore damage to my vehicle. but contacted my local dealer who stated he had heard there was a problem with the seats but there was no recall nor anything he could do to help my with the situation. i had the seat welded back together but now it is starting to break on the other side and i am afraid if it gives will i be as lucky as last time.. why is there no recall if so many people are having the same problem? *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the metal frame underneath the driver's seat split in half from the bolt. as a result, the seat was not secured properly in the vehicle. in order to repair the failure, the contact must find a seat or a frame. the dealer stated that the repair would cost $600 and no recall was available. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 109,000.

2001 jeep grand cherokee front seat metal underneath broke. metal broke away from the bolt. *tr

Drivers seat frame has broken on 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo. *tr

My drivers side front seat on my jeep grand cherokee broke, we had it welded back twice, but the entire track and the back of the seat are broken. it's very unsafe to drive and apparently this is very common on these jeeps. i don't understand how jeep can make a vehicle with such an unsafe part. it really should be recalled. i know of a poll for this particular defect and 1703 people have signed that the same thing has happened to them. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. while driving 10-25 mph, the contact heard a grinding noise coming from the driver's seat. the seat began to detach from the mount and the metal was torn away. the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer for repair. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 130,000.

Broken support on drivers seat on 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo. *tr

Driver seat is broken, seat leans to the back and right. *tr

My drivers side seat on my 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo has broken. 3 of the 4 brackets which are attached to the seat frame have sheered. the result of this is that my seat is only attached to my car by one bracket, in an accident this bracket may not adequately hold the seat in place. when making a turn the seat shifts. this is a dangerous situation with the only remedy being buying a new seat, or making a do it yourself weld to reattach the seat to the seat frame or purchasing a new vehicle. in my investigation to see if i could get a replacement seat i found this site http://vlane.com/poll/30. here over 98% of the respondents have faced this similar problem. there look to be around 100 respondents to this question that was asked. to track down this site took a rather long time, and my concern is how under reported this situation may be. this problem has still not been repaired and honestly i cannot afford to buy a new vehicle. *tr

2001 jeep grand cherokee seat snaps and breaks while driving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and by the looks on the internet its very very common. *tr

Driver side seat snapped from track assembly while driving causing a loss of control of vehicle. no accident resulted as i was able to regain control of vehicle. *tr

Front passenger side window fell in jan 2008 had repair shop pull window back up - they had "replaced many jeep regulators"; left passenger side window fell apr 2008 had friend wire it up in place because couldn't afford part/repair. *tr

I own a 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited with 87,000 miles. the events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of jeep. consequently,(1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. to correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. according to the certified service department at the local jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 jeep grand cherokee limiteds with duel zone ventilation systems. *tr

Wiring in heated driver's seat was exposed and smoldered under the leather seat covering causing the foam cushion to melt and making the heated seat inoperable. *tr

First of all, i am not the first person to have this complaint. my drivers seat is broken on my 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo. upon research, i found that this problem was in no way unique to me. this is ridiculous!!! i demand a recall, or at least compensation for paying to have my seat replaced. if i were the only person with this problem, i would understand, but every person that i've talked to has experienced this exact same problem with this exact same seat. this is why people have problems with buying american cars. unless i get this issue resolved, rest assured that i will never ever buy an american car again. as far as i am concerned, i want this fixed. i will be writing my senators. *tr

2001 jeep grand cherokee= my vehicle should have been covered under the lemon laws of the us. equipment failures: - window regulators- replaced 2 - heated seats- both seats have the wires burnt in two in them; possible fire hazard...not covered in recall of a later year - blend doors broke- had to replace all three motors and doors - left turn signal does not function consistently - door lock system is failing: driver's door has quit locking; has to be done manually; back door behind the driver makes a squawking noise when you lock the doors, tailgate is not locking; alarm will go off if you open the door, but it is not locked. _constant small coolant leak. *tr

I bought a grand cherokee limited in 2001 and the seat heaters (drivers and passengers) were both replaced in the first two years because they became inoperable. in 2007 the drivers side seat heater became so hot it burnt out. in 2008 the passenger side did the same. there has been a recall, but i have been told by jeep service dept. that my vehicle is not included. *tr

Drivers side car seat broke off its brace so now its basically not attached to anything. 2001 jeep cherokee. *tr

I have a 2001 jeep cherokee and the drivers seat completely broke away from the frame. it seems to me that this should have never happened. i think the seat is made very poorly and is very unsafe. *tr

During a high speed rear end collision, both the driver seat and the passenger seat reclined completely causing severe neck injuries to the occupants. *tr

Noticed slight seat movement during operation. seat failed while driving (front left bracket area of driver seat.) temporary fix by folding rear seat to support driver seat from falling back. bolted front part of seat back together, held fairly. right rear portion near seat back broke shortly after, unable to repair. seat rocks from side to side, is leaned to the right, and leans to the rear. original seat still in use. *tr

The bracket holding the seat to the floor has broken near the mounting bolts making the seat rock while sitting in it. i am afraid that if in an accident the seat might come completely off of its mounts. *tr

The metal holding seat to floor with bolts is stripped. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. the vehicle was taken to the mechanic because the driver's seat heater failed. the element part# 5072486-ab had to be replaced. when the mechanic took the seat apart to perform the repair it was apparent that the foam rubber cushion burned. the mechanic stated that the burn was caused by part # 5072486-ab. the current and failure mileages were 95,000.*ak updated 07/03/07. *jb

My 2001 jeep grand cherokee driver side seat broke and i think it should be recalled asap i have noticed this is a very common thing. i now have to drive around with my 2 year old in a crooked seat and the safety belt doesn't lay right since it is crooked. i think this is a very serious problem. *tr

Driver's side seat broken in 2001 jeep grand cherokee. initially the seat started with a metallic grinding sound. then there was a slight snap. now the seat rocks back and forth and side-to-side. we have not been able to correct the problem due to the inability to find replacement parts. the dealer fix is entirely too costly. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. the heated seats become extremely hot and the heating system malfunctioned. the failure mileage was 79,000. the contact stated the check engine light continued to come on. the heated seat system was a safety defect. *ak updated 03/07/07*jb

Filing a common complaint related to a flaw in the manufacturing of the jeep grand cherokee front seats. most occur in the 1999-2004 models. the metal that attaches the seat to the floor is flimsy and has broken. it makes the seat wobbly and will lead to my legs hitting the steering wheel and possibly cause a wreck. this is a fatal flaw from jeep/chrysler. *tr

Drivers front seat frame repeatedly breaks and have to have it welded. have had it repaired 3x at my own cost. the seat is also twisting on the mounts. *tr

Front drivers seat is broken. it's off the track and the bearings are broken, which could cause the driver to flip to the back seats if in an accident, leaving no one in drivers seat at all. *nm
