The driver seat bracket snapped loose at the rear left side that holds the seat to the frame while driving. i was making a right hand turn when i heard the seat frame break. now when driving the seat is very loose and makes a clicking noise with lots of unstable seat movements. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the front driver seat over heated and was extremely hot. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 09v117000 (seats). the failure mileage was 131,000.
While driving the drivers seat broke loose from the bracket and made it very dangerous to drive the vehicle. *js
Seat became very hot started to smell like burning .had to pullover till it cooled down.seat quit working.the seats had previous repair under warranty.around 2003-2004. *tr
While driving the drivers seat started to lean toward the passenger side, i slowed the jeep down and pulled over to the side of the road. i did not see any obvious damage to the seating brackets/mounts. i continued to drive and the problem progressively got worse. the jeep was taking to the auto shop on jan 2, 2014 and the mechanics tightened the brackets. jan 4 the same problem occurred again and again is progressively getting worse. due to finances i am unable to get the entire seating system fixed. *tr
I called jeep, they stated that vin number is not part of current recall. while attempting to repair both driver's and passenger's seat warmer system that was no longer working, and hasn't worked for years. i discovered that the factory installed heated seats had apparently shorted out and caused the foam cushion in the passenger seat to catch fire. i have not checked drivers seat yet. the wiring had burned a hole approximately 4 inches long and 1-2 inches deep. fortunately, the fire did not spread far within the seat. upon doing an online search, it appears that this is a very common problem. jeep repaired the heaters 2-3 times within the first 5 years and they would stop working within 2 years, it was too expensive to continually have them repair. *tr

The seat brackets in my jeep started to break apart around 2013, now the brackets are almost completely broken apart. i am driving with the seat leaning and rocking back and forth this is a very dangerous situation. i've contacted the dealership and they said there is no recall. they transfer me to a number where i can find out about recalls they also said there was no recall for this particular model. in my research i found out that there are seat bracket problems with jeeps and this problem should be recalled. *tr

Driver's seat lh seat base frame cracked through and broke off. seems to be an issue with a lot of jeep models. drivers seat became a "rocking chair" with potential to be thrown from the vehicle during a crash or lose control of vehicle if seat completely comes off the frame. why has this not been recalled already with the large number of vehicles impacted? *js
Driver's seat was wobbling. my husband took it out and found one metal fitting that bolts seat to frame totally broke and another one cracked. this is our son's vehicle and we are concerned about his safety in this vehicle. in much research, there are many, many more with the same problem. we live in a city where rear end collisions are not uncommon. this is a severe safety problem. does someone have to die before a recall of this? *tr
The drivers seat is broken. the break appears to be somewhere between the seat and the frame, probably at the brackets. this is both a safety issue (seat could break off in a collision) and a comfort issue (the seat is crooked, causing back issues and discomfort). *tr
The front drivers side and rear passengers side bolts on the frame of the driver's seat have pulled through the frame, causing a constant rocking and causing the seat to lean very far back. this is very unsafe. after searching for a replacement seat, i found that this is a very common problem on the 2001 jeep grand cherokee. *tr
The driver seat of my 2001 jeep grand cherokee has broken numerous times and they all broke from the same exact place. bottom frame of the driver seat is not strong enough. when the single nut pokes through the frame and cracks the seat frame overtime the whole seats frame is bent and the seat becomes unusable. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at an unknown speed, the driver seat leaned to the side independently which made the vehicle dangerous to drive. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician stated that the driver seat fractured from the bracket. the dealer was unable to service the vehicle because the manufacturer was not producing any parts for replacement. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 17,000. updated 5/27/15 *ta.....updated 06/03/15 *bf updated 7/6/2015*js updated 7/7/2015*js
Drivers seat bracket failure for jeep grand cherokee 1999-2004. due to poor design the brackets which hold the seat to the floor board will break free and can cause seat to break free while driving. this is a common issue which the manufacturer is aware of and chooses to do nothing. when the bracket fails the whole seat must be removed and the bracket replaced. *kb
The driver's side seat bracket broke on the right side while driving with no apparent reason. the seat on the right side now slumps down to the right with a terrible angle. driving the jeep now means one has to sit @ very uncomfortable manner and constantly be on guard to not move or the seat will rock. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the driver seat had become extremely wobbly and unsecure over a course of time. while driving approximately 45 mph and attempting a left turn, the driver seat fractured and the contact was shifted onto the passenger side of the vehicle while driving. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin was unavailable. the current and failure mileage was 150,000.
The driver seat metal base has broken in 2 parts on both sides. the drivers seat is loose and i cant find any replacement. *tt

Front seat of 2001 jeep grand cherokee is unsafe. heard from numerous other jeep drivers that this is a problem with this model year. driving along and all of a sudden the chair breaks and becomes unsteady. causing me to have to try and pull of the road. the chair will now recline when you accelerate and flow forward upon breaking - which has its impact on gas/break pedals when applied. *tr
2001 jeep grand cherokee limited 10 way power seat - twice failed. once at about 75000 miles and again at 130000 miles. driver's side seat frame broken on 2001 grand cherokee, causing sudden abrupt movement of the seat, and short term loss of vehicle control. fortunately, was able to regain control of vehicle without accident. to date, i have had to perform the following repairs to this seat: 1) weld lower seat frame twice due to metal fatigue failure. poorly designed; too thin stock. 2) weld the seat back frame where it broke due to metal fatigue. again, too thin material. 3) seat heater shorted out, caused small burn area on the lower cushion. i repaired same. 4) both the back and bottom seat cushions are made of expanded foam rubber which has deteriorated and torn in the seat frame area. this poorly designed seat is a serious safety defect, and there should be a mandatory recall. i have hit several websites recently and found literally hundreds of complaints on this very same issue. why has not the safety board required a recall? does someone have to die before action is taken? *tr
I was backing up in a parking lot. the driver side seat snapped lose and i hit two cement baracades. badly denting my rear door. lucky there was not a person standing there, i was at a college. the seat had been rocking a bit. when i looked at it the seat mount the rear pivot point had completely broken off both sides. the mounts holding the seat to the mount were also broken. this seem to happen a lot and i could not fine a junk yard replacement.. dealers wanted $700-$1200 for the repair. i took the seat out and had it welded. i can no longer use the horizontal or vertical seat adjustment but it tilts and goes back and forth. i have not tried to fix the back door yet. *tr
Driver side seat frame broke while i was driving to correct the problem i took it to weld but its broken again!! *tr
The driver seat on my 2001 grand cherokee has broken at 3 of the 4 attachment points and is not posing a safety problem. i am unable to find available replacement parts and have never encountered a problem like this in other vehicles. the metal has broken. *tr
My driver seat is broke in my 2001 jeep grand cherokee. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. while driving approximately 35 mph, the driver seat suddenly became warm. the fuse began to malfunction. the seat warmer no longer functioned at all. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. the contact called the manufacturer in reference to recall 09v117000 (seats:front assembly:seat heater/cooler) who stated that the vehicle was not included. the failure mileage was approximately 121,000 and the current mileage was approximately 127,000.
The frame holding the driver's seat is very flimsy and has broken in 3 of 4 places holding the seat. the 4th location has not yet broken all the way through but a crack has begun. the vehicle is not safely drivable and is parked until i can find replacement parts. many people have reported this same problem. why has nothing been done? the problem starts as a squeak, then a crack, then the seat is tilted and ultimately the breaks happen at all 4 corners of the seat frame. a crack at all 4 corners will allow the seat, and the driver, to fall back too far to reach the steering wheel and brakes. this is very dangerous. *tr
I have owned a 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo for 7 years and it has been a good car for me. a year ago my front seat broke off of the support beam and it is made of metal. i only way 180 lbs and have taken pretty good care of the car. after researching this online i have come to find out that this has happened to a lot of jeeps and they used cheap metal to save money. i will be the first to say i love jeep but this is dangerous for anybody riding in one. i only hope they do not use this method in newer models. it is very dangerous riding around in a seat that is not hooked to the car correctly. i had a friend weld the seat back to the support but it was only a temporary fix as it has broken again. *tr
Driver seat has broken, causing me to sway side to side when turning. this seems to be a very common issue with this model of jeep, and could definitely lead to a major wreck. i just bought the car used. wish i'd have noticed this problem during the test drive. *tr
Driver's seat has broken off the floor mount in left front corner - the metal snapped. the seat rocks and is dangerous. i see that there are literally hundreds of complaints about this problem - will jeep fix this? *tr
I own a 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo, and the driver's seat mount has broken, allowing the seat to be connected to the floorboard by only 2 corners. the events leading up to the failure include a noise coming from the seat while seated in it, especially with weight shifts during turns. the seat is now not supported on the front left corner nor the back right corner. to attempt to correct the failure, i had a friend try to glue a plate on the front left corner to help stabilize it against the floorboard mount, but the same was not done to the back right corner due to the placement of it. i have done research online into the cost to fix this issue, and it seems it will cost $600-$1000 to replace the seat and it's mount. the seat now tilts into the middle, and the pressure of the seat on the seat belt receiver has now destroyed the center console also. it is also apparent that thousands of other jeep grand cherokee owners have had the same issue. this is not a "normal" repair that a consumer should have to face. jeep/chrysler refused to do anything. *tr
The front driver seat started squeaking and then it stopped working completely....will not move forward or backward.....just received an estimate to repair the seat.....$1200 (christian brothers automotive) this is absolutely ridiculous....jeep needs to have a manual seat available for replacement of their flawed electronic seat. *tr
The driver side front seat bracket simply just broke. it rocks back and forth like a rocking chair. *tr
Drivers seat left front bolt broke right out of frame. seat now tips dangerously back and to the right. *tr
Driver side seat broke , metal used is very thin ,if it is weld , it probably will break again , very poor design , the seat needs to be replaced. *tr
2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo driver seat is broken. squeaked a little at fist, then just broke into pieces. the seat is not even attached to the base anymore. very dangerous. no one has the part. dealership says that seat comes in individual parts totaling $2300 + $99 labor. ridiculous! two of the needed parts are discontinued. ridiculous!! *tr
While making a turn, there was a pop under the seat. the bracket holding the seat has broken near the mounting bolts making the seat rock while sitting in it. i am afraid that if in an accident the seat might come completely loose. *tr
I have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited, vin: [xxx]. the driver side seat brackets (left front and right rear) have broken. i have been told by jeep that this is a common problem and it will cost $900 to repair. i had this repair done once at 50k miles and it has happened again. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the front driver seat was broken. the nuts and bolts became disconnected from the frame causing the contact to fall into the rear seat while driving at 35 mph. the contact called the dealership and the dealer stated that the seat was no longer in stock. the contact had not spoken with the manufacturer at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
Driver side seat broke in half on the left middle frame. *tr
While driving down the road i noticed that seat in my jeep was rocking to the side. continuing down the road i heard a snap, so i pulled over to the side of the road and noticed that the front left and rear right mounts on my driver seat had broke. currently looking for a replacement part, but for the time being i took the jeep to a local welder and had the welder weld the broken brackets. while discussing the repair the welder informed me that this wasnt the first one he has repaired, he too had to weld seat brackets on his jeep.
The seat brackets on my driver's seat of my 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo snapped off while i was driving which caused me to fall into my back seat and made me veer into oncoming traffic. i was able to get control and avoid an accident. contacted chrysler and they shut me down on repairing it. this is definitely a safety hazard - why isn't there a recall? *tr
2001 jgc driver seat is broken. when i took my jeep in to have rear axle worked on it came back with the driver seat rocking back to the right and forward to the left. the mechanic says he didn't do it but that they eventually wear out like that. i don't recall my seat rocking back and forth before i brought it to him. after checking with other jeep owners i have been told they have the same problem with the driver seat. it makes driving uncomfortable and i'm now noticing problems with my lower back and hip. *tr
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) i have been getting a burning smell inside my 2001 jeep grand cherokee when i operate the drivers seat heater. i called the chrysler hotline today to see about any recalls ,they replied none on this vehicle. i told them i was concerned that it would catch fire, i got no reply other then there are no campaignson that problem. i am concerned that it could catch fire. now my seat heater has not been working, the light goes on but no heat. please advise! [xxx] i purchased this vehicle last month used. *tr
The driver's side front seat in my 2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo failed, with the metal support track cracking and then breaking, leaving the seat nearly free. the seat had been loose for several months, since the time i purchased the vehicle in february of 2009. i had returned it to the dealer due to noise in the seat frame, and was told it was "natural wear and tear" and would not be repaired. i have since had the track welded to repair and reinforce the metal, but it does need a new track for any permanent repair, which chrysler estimates at $1,500. if i had been involved in an accident when this seat was wobbling, i believe it would have failed completely and would not have restrained me in the vehicle. this is a very dangerous safety issue, if not addressed by chrysler/jeep, who has been aware of this for many years in the grand cherokee, based on the number of online complaints i have seen in recent days. my mechanic also told me it was clear the seat track that is now in the vehicle was not original, and was a replacement part of the original, which also must have failed. *tr
