Recently reported VISIBILITY problems on 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Passenger side warm air flow from heater stopped. only cold air blows out. driver side is operating fine. evidently the air blend door has failed. this appears to be a chronic problem with this jeep vintage. i do not understand why a recall has never been issued for this common design failure. the fix is very expensive and involves removing the whole dash. however, mopar even makes a repair kit for this issue kit #k6855685ab, that does not involve removing the dash. jeep should be forced to recall these vehicles and correct their design flaw. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the blower doors for the air and heating vents were fractured and caused a failure with the air conditioning and heated. the contact spoke with the manufacturer and was told that a remedy was not available for the type of failure. the failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 67,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that three of his four window regulators were damaged, causing the windows to fall down into the door. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who repaired each window regulator at the owners expense for $400. the manufacturer was aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 107,000. updated 9/13/11 *cn updated 09/28/11

Visibility: defroster/defogger system: windshield: blower for 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited. dual climate controls are inoperable and cold air is constantly blowing on my windshield interior, causing it to fog up, limiting my visibility considerably. *tr

The 99-2004 jeep grand cherokee has major defects in the heating/ac system and chrysler is making customers pay for there defect.*tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited. the contact was driving 60 mph when the front driver side seat warmer became excessively hot. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that the heater switch had burned out the heating core. the contact also stated that the vent doors failed to open, causing the heating and air conditioning units to fail. the vehicle was taken to the dealer again where the failure was confirmed. the manufacturer was contacted and they advised that vin did not qualify for a repairs under nhtsa campaign id number:09v117000 (seats:front assembly:seat heater/cooler). the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the current mileages were 96,000.

The passenger side heater does not blow hot air. it will not defrost the windshield on the passenger side and therefore causes a safety hazard by limiting sight of the driver. *tr

Blend air door failure. *tr

My 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited with 140,000 miles has had air conditioning problems where it doesn't blow out cold air, for the last 3 years. i didn't care much about it and didn't plan to fix it until i noticed that the heating system was doing the same thing. the middle vents blow out cold air and the passenger side vents blow normal hot air. i live in a state where it gets brutally cold out in the winter time and obviously this needs to be fixed for comfort and also for defrost. come to find out that the repair is very costly $8-1800. and the most horrifying of all is that after the problem is corrected, it will only happen again and you will be forced to pay to fix it all over again because of the parts chrysler uses. i can not afford to fix this problem over and over again. this car dealer is well aware of this problem and is ignoring all complaints and forcing consumers to pay for the problem, when it is just going to break again. this is almost criminal! *tr

Several window motors on my 2001 jeep have broke in the past two years. when this happens, the window falls down by itself and will not go back up without getting out of the car to manually push it back up. i had to pull over on the side of the highway to push my window back up for fear of it going all the way down and not being able to get it back up in the freezing cold weather. i am also concerned about the possibility of hitting a bump in the road and the window falling down hard and shattering. please also take into consideration the fact that this has happened to three of my windows so far and that i am not the only one with this problem and chrysler is refusing to do anything about it. since it is so expensive to repair, i as well as many others are forced to live with it until i can save up enough money to get it fixed. *tr

Wife and son required to find alternate vehicle. the right hand side of heater on 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited failed. no defrost to clear windows and frigid air being blown onto passenger. i would like to have you investigate the (i believe unconscionable) number of complaints of the failure of the "blend doors" on 1999 to 2004 jeeps. it is a design failure that is the result of a piece of plastic breaking in an inaccessible location under the dash. the car is rendered dangerous with no way to clear windshield and driver/passengers unable to get inside temperature to a tolerable level. the repair for the approximately $180 part costs $1200 from the dealer and $900 to $1000 from independent repair shops. *tr

Repeated failure of blower fan for which there is apparently not a suitable fix from jeep. current fix is either (a) part from supplier other than jeep which fails every 6-9 months or (b) jeep recommended part which reduced air volume so dramatically that defrosting windows is unsafe. failure of the blower motor is also unsafe due to the inability to defrost the windows. *tr

I own a 2001 jeep grand cherokee and the blend doors and heat do not work. i cannot believe how many people have this issue and how poor this product it. we must have some relieve for this issue. *tr

Heat only works on driver side. cold air from passenger side. my mechanic the a/c blend door is probably stuck. i have been told they would have to pull the dash to fix the problem. a year ago the heater core was replaced requiring the need to pull the dash. the labor for that alone was $900. my mechanic told me that both of these problems have service bulletins issued for the jeep & the dodge durango. i believe the manufacturer should be responsible for the repair costs. these are so common, that the parts needed to fix the blend door are not even available. with the below 0 temperatures we are having this winter i can't go very far without freezing! *tr

Only cold air comes out on passenger side, unable to defrost windshield in winter. repair cost $1,000 +. *tr

2001 grand jeep cherokee limited edition blend doors and recirc door all broken at 48k miles. poor design of the parts (plastic) caused the failures. *tr

All four windows gears and tracks have broken within the last year. motors have had to be replaced on all four windows. *tr

No defrost in 2001 jeep grand cherokee - no heat either. but lack of defrost is a safety issue. *tr

2001 jeep grand cherokee dual climate control heater and defrost only works on one side of vehicle. the dealer says it will cost $1200.00 to diagnose and repair the blend doors on the system. with no heat for defrost on one side of the vehicle this could be a potential extreme hazard for visibility. *tr

2001 jeep grand cherokee blend door. *tr

I own a 2001 jeep grand cherokee limited and though the blower motor works the dual heater/ blend doors stopped working. it was a cool night in michigan and the windshield quickly fogged up with no luck of clearing up because of the malfunction. i immediately rolled the window down and had to drive home with my head sticking out of the window to see. also the next morning on a sunny day the same event happened with the windows fogged and sun directly shining on me i could not even see one thing. a person could wipe the inside of the windows off with little improvement of visibility. i had to immediately pull the vehicle over for fear of hitting someone or another car discontinued driving it. this is such a dangerous failure. i discussed it with an automotive engineer and was told it is defective part in engineering by chrysler. because of the safety issue here should not this be recalled! even though i replied no to your 4 questions on the right the reality is a yes could be applied to 3 of the 4 if i continued to drive the jeep grand cherokee without a doubt. i recognized immediately the danger of this situation to myself and others on the road and pulled over without hesitation. *tr

I purchased a 2001 jeep grand cherokee, and a few weeks later i got up in the morning and it was cold so i turned on my heater. unfortunately i got no heat. it turns out that the blend doors on my vehicle were broken. after much research, i found out that this is one of the absolute most common problems with the vehicle. now if it were just a comfort issue, i could learn to live with it, but the fact of the matter is that the defrosters run through the heater core. therefore is the blend doors are broken, you have no way to clear your windshield. since i live in utah, this is a very important feature to have. although this is one of the most common problems with these vehicles, there was never a recall made. thousands of people will end up having to pay a dealership $1500 to fix their defective parts. *tr

2001 jeep grand cherokee, window regulator failed and window will not close. my son's car with my grand kids. my son has identified numerous similar failures on other cherokees. the failure occurs suddenly and had it been inclement weather, could affect drivers ability to control vehicle. *tr

Power windows-front passenger side regulator failed ~july '09 getting back in the car from church put the window up heard loud snap and window dropped, had to stop window from falling into door panel by holding it all the way home until we could figure out what to do-taped it up. driver side window started out as a motor failing in jan '11 and when i went to get my oil changed asked them not to put window down because of that (didn't want it to get stuck in down position), window got put down and that was the start of the end. by feb '11 the window had failed no snaps but will slide down if not held up with something. now both of my windows are done for and being held up with tape, can't afford dealership pricing to fix. passenger window went at ~85,000 miles went to dealership for pricing to fix ~$300/window + labor @ $90/hr driver window went at ~160,000 miles have been looking for parts online and in junk yards... if the windows are not pushed up all the way and taped securely they will leak from the rain or wind will get in and cause the truck to be uncontrollable! i didn't realize that there were so many problems with the windows, thought it was a freak thing apparently not. *tr

2001 jeep grand cherokee limited v8 blend door is broken. this effect the ability for my jeep to heat cool and defrost properly. it seems to be a design flaw considering the amount of instances i have run across. *tr

The failure of the blender motor has left our jeep without a windshield defroster/defogger. it only blows cold air and does not clear leaving visibility at zero. it doesn't work at all and now it is dangerous for myself and family to drive in our "family car". nothing has been done to correct the problem because the dealership said it would be an $800-$1500 repair not covered by extended warranty that we purchased. *tr

Blend door broken on 2001 jeep grand cherokee. *tr

Rear brake and safety lights on 2001 jeep keep not working flaw in workmanship and construction of assembly. driver seat coming lose at base brackets that slid the seat back and forward. window lifts break constantly. blower door brakes ceasing defrost and windows fog during cold days. *tr

My 2001 jeep grand cherokee blows only cold air on drivers side. currently we are in below freezing conditions in montana. apparently, after looking this up on the internet, this is a common problem with this vehicle, for which the jeep dealer will charge upwards of a thousand dollars. from my research this is a very common failure in wj jeeps. since my teeth were chattering, and body shaking, i would say i was severely hypothermia. not a good time of year for heat to go out because of very bad engineering. i wouldn't even mind paying a little money, but it costs a fortune because they have to pull the entire dashboard out to fix it. and they want a bailout package? *tr

I don't have an approximate date on the failure. it did just start recently. my 2001 jeep grand cherokee has no heat on the drivers side. this is due to faulty blend doors and recirc doors (after extensive research, i have found this is a very common problem on wj jeeps. on my ride home tonight (below freezing weather), i became very hypothermic. even after hot shower, i am still suffering effects. also, on a previous occasion, my front window formed ice, and had to pull over. there was no heat on defrost. didn't help that it was dark at 0500, and snowing quite hard. chrysler knows about this problem, but brush it aside as merely a comfort issue. i guess that is an easy statement to make from a warm office and not in an actual car with this problem in rural montana in one of our hardest winters. *tr

2001 jeep cherokee no heat on the passenger side, blows cold air, no heat. *tr

I own a 2001 jeep grand cherokee with dual climate control. whenever i try and use the heat it does not work, i have no front defrost for my windshield. the only air coming out of my heating system is cold air. it is because of a faulty blend air door. this can be a dangerous problem if in the cold weather the windshield fogs up, there is no way to defrost it. visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower. *tr

Passenger window has fallen down on my 2001 jeep gc for no reason. *tr

Heat and a/c blend doors on the 2001 jeep grand cherokee failed due to normal wear and tear. these doors should have lasted at least 20 to 30 years. they lasted 7. a costly repair was necessary not to mention loss of use. the heat and a/c unit needed to be removed and the doors replaced. *tr

My heat does not work. i bought the jeep and the heat worked. it first blew cold on passenger side at the end of last winter. this winter, no heat works and does blow cold air still. blend doors are broke and have been problems for all jeep grand cherokees. daimler should pay for faulty part! *tr

The blend doors on my jeep do not work. this is an extremely wide spread problem for jeep grand cherokee's. both a dealer mechanic, and an independent mechanic have told me the that almost all grand cherokees will experience this problem. there should be a recall issued - it is simply a design flaw. unfortunately, there is no specific complaint choice on this form for heating, so people are classifying this as either visibility issues or engine cooling issues. hopefully someone at nhtsa will find the common thread of defective blend doors - and no heat. *tr

My 2001 jeep grand cherokee has the hvac blend door problem. it blows nothing but cold air and i could not defrost or see out of the windshield while driving. i am sure this will result in death, injury, or property damage, as i do not have the $1500.00 to repair and winter is here. a safety recall needs to be put into effect on these vehicles. *tr

Cold air is blowing from the vents uncontrollably. *tr

The blend doors on my jeep are defective, which affects the ability of the defrost/defogger system. *tr

My '01 jeep grand cherokee's heater stopped working on the passenger side. it only blew in cold air. i brought it to my mechanic and it was a blend door failure. leading up to it, i had noticed an odd sound coming from the hvac after i turned my engine off, but ignored it as it worked properly. the passenger side has now stopped working. searching on the internet, there is apparently a tsb #24-001-04 concerning this problem. if it is a common problem, it should not simply be an informational tsb, but rather a recall. please help everyone here with this problem. *tr

No heat in this very cold weather. after many mechanics i went too. find out that it will cost me fortune. and it common problem with jeep cherokee. and it should be recall. for blend doors. blend doors. please help. *tr

Blend door problem on hvac system. major repair. *tr

Blend door in my 2001 jeep grand cherokee is broken. cold air blown through all the vent. chrysler has always been aware of this defect which has effected tens of thousands of jeep gc owners with a typical $1300 to repair. *tr

1. events leading up to failure: windows fail to defrost and defog. 2. the vehicle does not have any heat or heated defrost on the driver's side. 3. dealer wants $1,200 to fix the problem. *tr

My 2001 jeep grand cherokee has now had all four window regulators fail with no apparent reason with an accumulated repair cost topping $1300. most recently, the regulator on the window next to my infant son failed while traveling on the interstate during an intense thunderstorm, causing the window to fall into the door and soaking my child-quite a distraction at 70mph. *tr

The passenger window just fell down while driving on the tollway at 65mph. this is the second window failure that i have had on this vehicle. it is a 400. to 500. dollar repair and a recall should have already been issued for this common problem with the jeep/chrysler products. *tr

Hvac system broke down, blend door doesn't work anymore, hot/cold air cannot be controlled, defrost function no more in work. *tr

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower the blend doors on the 2001 grand cherokee limited break causing a no heat condition which will not defrost the windshield in the winter causing poor visibility. *tr

First the passenger side of the heater failed and several months later the driver side also failed. so entire car blows cold air. no heat for the defroster. dealer says the heater blend doors and actuators have failed. the fix is to the tune of $1600. *tr

2001 jeep grand cherokee: no heat. *tr
