Seat began rocking laterally when cornering. inspection indicated all seat parts were firmly attached. entering a parked vehicle on a cold evening, the seat rotated to the right and backward slightly. since then the seat will not adjust fore/aft on its rails nor am i able to bring the seat into its original upright position. i receive a warning that the seatbelt is not buckled even though the belt is firmly buckled. the vehicle has never been in an accident.
Car's instrument panel went wild w hen i started the car.every warning light came on and stayed on. gauges worked immediately after starting the car, but slowly lost power to keep them on, and they went to the "key off" position. nothing on the drivers armrest worked, no seat auto positioner, no window open, shut, or lock. information panel overhead went dead (blank).
January 9 2018, the heated seat in my newly purchased jeep burnt me so badly that 6 weeks later i still havent healed completely. i do have a photos of injured area and it's current condition is last pic. these seats need recalled, it could have been even word-for-word child or old person with thin skin, it was so painful to shower, sit, or much less move during this healing .
Driver seat floor bracket cracked for the second time in four years. seat is unstable anytime.
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. while driving, the driver seat fractured and relocated to the rear of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the seat track fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
Drivers seat bottom , welds broke , cracked frame . drivers seat bottom seems to become very unstable and seems to rock back and forth . also tilts side too side when cornering .
I have read that !any people have the same driver's seat issue. the holes for the bolts has been shredded completely and the dealership tried to charge $3,500 to repair it. it's a defect that should be fixed for free. it under the seat, how can the owner destroy that. 2) the head light covers gets this discoloration or grime on the inside decreasing the brightness by 45% at night, this didn't happen in my bronco. i called chrysler and they said the recall # listed online didn't match the format of the numbers in their system to do research. what? this is ridiculous, fix your recalls chrysler!!!
As i was getting off my vehicle i heard a pop coming from around my seat. i did not know what it was and did not make much of it until the next time i sat on the seat. upon entering and seating on the driver's seat i noticed that the seat was not even as it had been in the day before. i got off the vehicle and the front right corner of the driver's seat had dropped and the seat was leaning down toward this corner. after i inspected under the seat i determined that this was due to the front, right bracket connecting the seat to the track breaking off the track. now the seat is only supported by three brackets. i feel that this should not have happened to my vehicle given its age, mileage and my height and weight. i thick that this potential very unsafe in the event of an accident. *tr
Bought this automobile used. a couple of days later we noticed the drivers seat track had separated in two places on each side of the seat. the seat was literally being held to the track with bailing wire that the previous owner had rigged. we removed the wire and used a cushion spring to hold the seat to the track. note: the metal brackets on both sides of the seat had simply fatigued and split in two. i called our local jeep/chrysler dealer and he gave me the national number for jeep customer service. after speaking with the rep, nothing could be done since there had not been a recall notice on this item. i checked the internet and found that this was a common complaint for this year of grand cherokee. i feel very strongly that this condition is very dangerous and chrysler/jeep should recall the drivers side seat track for these years (1999-2004) grand cherokee. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly shut off. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the cam and crank sensors were faulty. the sensors were replaced, but the vehicle continued to experience the failure. the contact indicated that the vehicle would also stall due to the main computer overheating. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician replaced the screws to the computer. no further information was available. in addition, the front driver side seat rails malfunctioned causing the seat to move while operating the vehicle. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 196,000.
As i sat at a stop light it turned green i accelerated and as i did the bracket on my front driver seat separated from the framework of the seat causing me to fall backwards unable to see the roadway mirrors or properly accelerate or brake as any driver should be able to causing me to lose temporary control of the vehicle. i however regained control and was able to pull over to the shoulder but was unable to drive until a repair was done. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the front driver side seat fractured without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the seat needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 2,013.
The front seat bracket has broken along with many others. this issue needs to be recalled before there is a fatality. *tr
Driver's seat front outboard attach point failed during normal use. the failure was in the frame of the seat base where it attaches to the seat adjustment track. this is a manual adjust seat. i am original owner and of average build. vehicle has never been involved in a collision, abused in any way, and has been maintained in excellent condition. i conducted my own informal investigation. the seat base frame where it attaches to the seat track is a light weight sheet metal stamping. the holes in the stamping that accept the seat track attachment studs are significantly oversize compared with the size of the stud. the seat track stud is fastened to the seat base with a bare nut that is only slightly larger than the hole diameter. this results in the nut bearing down on a very small surface area of the sheet metal. high stress is created at these points, especially if the nut is not exactly centered on the oversize hole. also, the front attach points are several inches to the rear of the front edge of the seat frame, further increasing forces on these points for any rearward force on the upper seat back. over time during normal use, this resulted in stress cracking and subsequent fatigue failure of the sheet metal. during a high impact event such as a rear-end collision, this could cause sudden failure of the seat attach points, resulting in loss of control of the vehicle, injury to the front seat occupant, and injury to anyone seated in the rear seat behind the front seat occupant. a simple flat washer or other reinforcement of the holes in the seat base sheet metal could prevent this mode of failure. i recommend that any vehicle equipped with seats of this design have the seats inspected for cracks in the sheet metal base, repaired or replaced if necessary, and have the seat attachment points reinforced with heavy washers. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the driver's side seat connection was fractured. the contact discovered the failure once he sat in the seat and discovered a portion of metal was fractured. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 153,000.
The right fwd seat track mount has broken its welds. the demographics of my family are all normal weight 195 and under and the vehicle is used mainly for on road trips and barely ever travels off road. during a internet search for a replacement seat track that yielded no results and a dealer visit with a quote of 400 dollar fix. i have lost any respect for the manufacturer that seems to cut corners where they can put the general public in danger by the use of their product. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. while parked, the contact noticed that the front driver's seat began to wobble from side to side and from front to back. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. the technician stated that the seat frame would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
The frame on the drivers seat on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee snapped in half which needs replace or welded.. i feel it is unsafe to drive. *tr
Front bracket holding driver's seat broke. front driver's seat now rocks from front left corner to rear right corner. driver's seat is unstable. *tr
Driver seat broken rail. seat started sqeaking then fell apart completely. *tr
The drivers side seat brackets that hold the seat in place have given way. the seat now rocks side to side & front to back. it needs some serious repair. this is not something that should happen due to normal wear and tear, but it did. i hope nothing worse happens to the seat as i try to find some way to repair it. almost 3,000 people on one website alone have reported having problems with the drivers side seat brackets on jeep grand cherokees. (http://vlane.com/poll/30/2001-jeep-grand-cherokee-has-your-driver-side-front-seat-broken-on-this-jeep) there really should be a safety recall regarding this faulting design & manufacturing. it is only a matter of time before someone is killed driving at high speed only to hit a bump in the road & have their seat completely break apart from the brackets & end up looking at the ceiling of the vehicle after the seat falls backwards. *tr
While driving my jeep grand cherokee the drivers front seat began to rock. when i got home i checked the seat and found that the metal frame had cracked in three places. i did some temporary repairs which did not last very long. i then did some research and found that many other jeep owners had the same problem. this problem is a safety hazard, and is a dangerous. any help you could give me with this problem would be appreciated. i feel that chrysler should do a recall for this problem. *tr
Driver's seat frame is broken, not due to abuse or any use outside of normal use. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee, blend doors, and drivers seat. *tr
Driver's seat mounting bracket broke on front left side causing seat to wobble.
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the contact was driving 25 mph when the front driver seat bracket fractured. the contact referenced numerous complaints found online regarding the driver side seat bracket for his year, make and model. the manufacturer was not contacted nor was the vehicle taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the failure mileage was 215,000.
Front driver's side seat frame has cracked and is now completely separated from the floorboard. i have had it repaired once already by welding the seat back together. clearly, with the number of complaints about this exact problem on the internet, there is in issue. *tr
The motors on the front seats were broken when i bought it, and i noticed that the driver's seat seemed wobbly. shortly after purchasing the jeep the driver's seat brackets got worse, shifting when i got in and recently broke through. after the bracket broke, the airbag warning light began going off when i go around a corner or curve and the seat shifts. began researching and found this was a common problem with many thousands of complaints. i've left instructions with my family to sue jeep if i die or get seriously injured in an accident because i can't afford to buy a different car and can't sell this jeep with a broken front seat. *tr
I was driving down the road at about 40 mph and my seat started to wobble. i stopped the vehicle and looked at the seat. the seat bracket had broken. there was no known strain on the seat and no accident. i'm still at work so i haven't been able to try and find replacement parts yet. a few months ago a coworker with the same vehicle had his seat break completely and he ended up laying down in the car. *tr
Front driver seat bracket (left side) has broken, and the back of the seat, right side is broken which makes the seat lean to the right. tried to weld and now the front part of the bracket has completely broken off. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo , i was driving to work 80 mph on the highway and all the sudden my seat driver broke i nearly crashed i spun three times before coming to a stop...... two days later my bothers driver seat broke. i did some research online and this is a systemic problem. i am even considering legal action. i could have died, try to explain that to my wife that i died because the driver seat broke. *tr
Own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo and front drivers seat carriage has broken due to a poor design. started squeaking and poorly built metal frame will crack and come loose from foundation leaving you looking at the overhead while taking off from a green light. very dangerous! does someone need to die before jeep notices this is a factory problem and issue a recall for this potentially life and death issue? *tr
Drivers seat frame and seat broken.
Seat brackets under driver seat have broken, which causes seat to move when going around bends, getting in and out of seat. the way the bracket has broken, the seat can physically be lifted up off the floor. we removed the seat, there is only 1 of the 4 brackets not broken, so if the last one would break the seat could tip over or fall backwards or forwards. if you would go around a bend, you would either hit up against the door or against the console depending on which direction you turn. if you would have to slam on the brakes the seat would fly forward into the steering wheel. we have fixed the seat once by rewelding the brackets, and they broke again, so we now have completely replaced the seat with a seat from a different jeep. after the initial repair, it took about a year for it to break again. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the contact was sitting in the vehicle when he heard a noise in the drivers seat. when he started driving, the seat began wobbling out of control. when he inspected it, he noticed two cracks in the seat frame. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact called the dealer and was told that they had to repair the entire frame. the manufacturer was not been notified. the current and failure mileages were approximately 150,000.
Drivers seat apparently cracks, starts squeaking, wobbles and then breaks. i have taken it to be welded three times now and each time it lasts from a couple of months to a couple of years before the problem occurs again. it has now broken for the forth time. electric seat motor also fails to lift the seat under its own power without helping by pulling the seat forward while selecting the seat forward position on the seat motor control. *tr
Without any prior signs, the frame on the underside of the front seat my 2000 jeep grand cherokee broke. it appears that the metal near the bolt was weak and simply snapped. after searching online, it appears that this is a common problem. fortunately i haven't had the problem with the seat turning into a rocking chair yet but i fear that it is inevitable. this vehicle has less than 50,000 miles on it and has never been used for anything more than normal everyday driving. i find it disgusting that the manufacturer has not done a recall on an issue that ranges for a number of model years and is instead forcing us to pay to make our cars minimally safe. when you purchase a car, you don't expect the metal in it to just break! *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. while the contact was driving approximately 35 mph, approaching a traffic stop signal, the front driver seat abruptly moved in the backward position without assistance. the vehicle was driven to the side of the road and inspected. the contact stated an unknown part disengaged underneath of the seat. the vehicle resumed with caution. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 150,000. updated 02/03/11*lj the consumer stated the front driver's side seat broke. the steel bracket which attached the seat to the frame snapped and broke. updated 03/17/11
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated while driving under normal conditions, the driver side seat frame fractured. the contact stated that the seat would feel loose for some time before fracturing. the vehicle was not inspected or repaired. the failure and current mileage was 130,000. updated 01/13/11*lj the consumer believed the failure was due solely due to inadequate material used in the manufacturing of the seat frame and mount assemblies. the consumer was informed the mount was no longer available from chrysler. updated 01/25/11. *jb
About six months ago, i heard a snap and felt the right side of my driver's seat in my 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo become loose and wobble. today, 10/17/ 2010, as i exited my jeep i heard another snap and discovered that the bolts connecting my seat to the vehicle had broken. the seat is completely disconnected from the vehicle. i weigh 185 lbs and have been the owner of the vehicle since august 2004. the safety issue has not yet been repaired. if there were an accident, it is possible that i along with the seat could be ejected from the vehicle. *tr
The metal frame holding the driver's seat in place broke in two places. *tr
The tabs that hold my driver's side seat to the track assembly on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo have completely broken. the dealership quoted $500+ to fix their faulty product. the incident happened while merging onto i-75 near atlanta and i wound up laying in my back seat. i know that i am not alone in this issue as i have checked several forums and junk-yards all of whom report the it as a common occurrence. chrysler's chosen viewpoint of not fixing a severe safety concern is unacceptable. *tr
The bracket of my seat frame that hold on my seat of my grand cherokee laredo 2000 broke, all three of them are broken, i felt something off with the seat but never saw anything, and today the seat got out of place completely almost causing me to get into an accident, i check on the internet and there's a lot of people with the same exact problem. this is a safety concern!! *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee .. driver and passenger seats broke from bottom brackets ... very dangerous. my driver and passenger seats are unattached to the floor and are loose ...there are alot of complaints on this models! *tr
The driver's side front seat has a rail on the top left side where the bolt will break through the rail causing the driver to loose control of the vehicle, injure themselves and others in and out of the vehicle. i have only experienced the squeaky sounds that happen just before the break. i did a search for complaints on several websites and found at least 1500 complaints on the this subject, per website. why are we waiting for a death or injury for the dealer to fix this problem?? this problem has the potential to do so!! from the investigating i have done no one could have caused the problem but the manufacturer itself. the solution to this problem is to replace the defective rail. i will not do this at my own cost. i would encourage others to complain here and chrysler corporate. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee ltd. is riddled with safety problems. chief among them is the drivers side seat frame. bottom part of the seat frame has busted in several places. this is a serious matter and daimler/chrysler should be held accountable. new seats are not easy to find and if you can find one the price is astronomically outrageous. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee: while making a left hand turn, the left front driver's side seat rail detached from the floor rail. the steel was weak and the bolt holding it down appears to have "ripped" right through the steel rail. now the front left corner of the seat moves up and down about six inches. this is, hopefully, a one-time failure, but very dangerous. i haven't found a replacement yet. thousands of people have complained about this problem. there should be a recall. *tr
A few months ago i noticed the drivers seat of my 2000 grand cherokee began to make popping noises when i would turn corners or accelerate. just the other day when i accelerated from a stop, there was a loud pop and my drivers seat turned into a rocking chair. it tipped all the way back to the back seat nearly causing me to loose control and crash into the car in front of me. i took my jeep into the dealership and they quoted me a price of more than a thousand dollars to replace the seat bracket. i then did some research on the internet and found that there are hundreds of others that have the same problem. there is definitely a safety problem and why is there not a recall? does it take people being killed to get something done? i can not afford to put over a thousand dollars into my jeep at this time and others have had the seats welded but the welds do not hold. *tr
Driver's seat became loose and wobbly, eventually "clicking" while driving, and then obviously broke and i was reclined back and to the right. seat removal found that driver's seat frame had cracked and failed. professional welder repaired seat frame and strengthened frame with additional material. three years later, seat frame is failing again. i am not overweight or obese - this seat frame is dangerous, especially if it breaks while driving. a search on the internet indicates a widespread problem with these seat frames, including a repair kit website since chrysler is not taking care of this issue. it is my opinion that under regular duty, a seat frame should last the lifetime of the vehicle. *tr
I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee which i've had for about 7 years now. about 6 months ago, the bracket on my drivers side front seat broke. i replaced it and about two months later the metal seat frame on the same side broke and i'm in the process of looking for replacement. apparently from what i've gathered online through numerous website, this is a very common problem with the jeep. poor quality...very unsafe. *tr
