The truck seems to have lost power to drive and also to provide proper to the radio which goes in and out. while driving there was no engine light that came on and the truck started hesitating to keep going. at 0 to 40mph it was acting like it wanted to shut off but as i gave it more gas it seemed to get better and the music came in clearer but then it would jerk like it was going to shut down. i have had the starter, alternator, engine and spark plugs changed and checked but it still is doing the same thing. this is unsafe with my kids in the car and no warning light to say that anything is wrong. this needs to be addressed i've seen too many trucks with similar issues like mines. *tr
Engine shuts off while driving. very dangerous to shift to neutral, while rolling, and try to restart with key. must come to a complete stop and shift to park to restart. not so bad if you can get to the side of the road first, terrible if you have to stop in the travel lanes to restart car. sometimes it takes up to 30 minutes to get vehicle started again. *tr

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee and recently my band in my transmission broke, so i have no 2nd gear. i brought it to a transmission shop and they told me it happens very often on the make and year of my vehicle. it would be an $1800.00 to $3000.00 fix. as of right now my car wont shift until it reaches 5000 rpm's, since i don't have the money to fix. i was just wondering if it has happened alot on this make and model car if it would be a recall. *tr

2000 jeep grand cherokee heat not working - a common complaint of many jeep owners seeking to file a class-action lawsuit against daimler chrysler jeep. $900 + is beyond absurd to pay to fix this common problem that jeep should have recalled and fixed for free. *tr

I have a 2000 jeep gc laredo, and along with many, many other people i have numerous problems. the warped rotors are very dangerous when you have to use your brakes, especially when you have children in the car as i do, also the taillight/brake light issue, that has gotten me pulled over more than once, even though i put a new bulb in it every time. the door lock actuator that is very annoying not to mention my transmission has a shifting problem that i can't do anything about and now my radiator fan will not work so my car will overheat if i am stopped for too long. *jb
Door actuator, overheating, transmissions slippage (or not wanting to shift at times), tail lights, cooling, heating (or lack of). *tr
Just disgusted with the number of repairs i have needed to make to this vehicle. in the last six years the following repairs have been done: brakes replaced 3 times and need to be done again door window motor cooling fan, radiator evaporator coils hood lifters-hood will not stay up drivers door clunks starter compressor leaking axle seals and now i have a cracked head on the engine. the jeep just failed out of the blue. glad i was close to home. this vehicle is a lemon. buy american again--most likely not. are our "american" vehicles being built with inferior parts? or are they programmed to be obsolete within a few years? *nm
Dt*: the contact stated while the brake pedal was depressed, the tires felt square and there was an excessive stopping distance. the vehicle was taken to the dealership, who determined the rotors were warped. the rotors and pads were replaced. the brake rotors have been replaced three times, but the problem persisted. the cranksahft position sensor was replaced. the consumer stated he could feel the transmission shudder. updated 03/22/06. *jb
Our jeep grand cherokee has a transmission selector (automatic) that has slipped so that there is no park. park now operates as reverse, reverse as neutral, neutral as drive etc. there is no longer a way to reach 1st gear and the car will roll when it is in park. the car is in the daimler chrysler shop now and nothing was done to cause this extremely dangerous failure. *nm
On sunday september 4, 2005 while returning from a 220 mile trip the radiator fan on our 2000 jeep grand cherokee fractured and separated, causing rupture of radiator, coolant loss and rapid overheating. the vehicle was towed to firestone auto repair where the radiator, fan and shroud assembly were replaced. the vehicle was picked up on september 7, 2005. it became apparent when leaving firestone that the transmission had suffered damage as a result of the overheating. the vehicle was taken to panhandle transmission where a rebuilt transmission was installed. a recall notice was issued by daimler-chrysler in october 2006. invoices, credit card statements and canceled check was submitted to daimler chrysler as proof of defect and subsequent damage repair. daimler-chrysler reimbursed the cost of the fan, radiator and shroud replacement on november 16, 2006 in the amount of $1003.89 but no reimbursement for the damage caused to the transmission ($1350.00) due to radiator failure and rapid overheating of the transmission coolant system. *jb

I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo. in early december i was driving the vehicle when my engine light illuminated. i immediately called my mechanic, who happens to work for midas. he told me to bring it in right away. because i live closer to midas than any jeep dealer, and because of the service i have received in the past from jeep/chrysler, i took it to my mechanic. he advised me i had a blown head gasket. i received an estimate from him and he also advised me that the dealership would be considerably more expensive, i allowed him to repair the vehicle. after the repairs were complete, i talked to my mechanic and he advised me to contact chrysler/jeep and ask for reimbursement. here in lies the complaint. when i contacted the dealership, bob dance jeep in oralndo, i was told there was nothing they could do to help because it was my fault i drove the vehicle "hot". i explained the reasons i took it to my mechanic as opposed to the dealer and i was told so sorry. i then try to contact the warranty people for the vehicle. i was told i only had a 3year 36,000 mile warranty and that i wasn't able to do anything about it. the vehicle had 49,000 miles at the time of repair. i asked if i would be allowed to purchase an extended warranty and was rudely told no. this is only one example of the customer service i have received since purchasing this vehicle in july 2000. i have also replaced the transmission, two bateries, repaired the window which did not work and had the rotors cut three time. when i spoke to chrysler headquarters, i was not surprised to receive the same response. i was told because the work was done by an independent garage, midas, i was not entitled to any type of reimbursement, period. i don"t trust jeep/chrysler. i don't want them working on my vehicle. someone please help me!!
Vehicle rolled backwards on slight incline. car was not running. checked and made sure vehicle was in park. it was. started the vehicle and drove back up incline. vehicle rolled back down while running. drove straight to a spitzer jeep dealership. put vehicle on larger incline. vehicle would not roll. service person, dan, told me to keep an eye on it and bring it back if it did it again.*ak
I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee loredo. currently i am experiencing severe transmission problems. everyone i know who owns a jeep grand cherokee is experiencing the same problems with their transmission. my car currently has about 88,000 miles. i have also had to replace 3 of the lock latches within six months. the automatic locks just brake for no reason and are very expensive to be replaced.*ak
I purchased my 2000 jeep grand cherokee in 1999. i have been in and out of the dealer service for repeat major problems. my tire squeaked loudly while driving and after a year of not finding the problem, and fixing what they thought was the problem the left front wheel bearing was replaced and solved that problem. during the problem with the squeak they informed me that the transfer case had a problem and the solution was to drain and refill the 4wd transfer case fluid, i had them complete the service. also during my cargo door would not open neither would the window, they replaced the latch lift. the next problem was that i was noticing smoke coming from underneath my hood. i brought that to their attention and they notice a fluid leak and had to replace my cylinder head gasket. the smoke was still there after that effort and now my transmission has went out. i need an overhaul transmission that will cost $1800.00 because now it's out of warranty. when i called the dealership they made it seem as if i did not take care of my vehicle. when my jeep needs servicing i always went to the dealership (5 star) so they can help me take care of my investment. any needed repair that was requested i had done. my jeep only has 57,000 miles on it. the crysler company has most definitely lost a customer.*ak
I purchased a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo in august 2000. yesterday, my transmission failed and would jerk when shifted into reverse. today, i contacted the dealership and was basically told "too bad," because my warranty was expired. i asked to speak to the gentleman that sold me the jeep, was placed on hold for several minutes and then transferred to someone else's voice mail. my jeep is 3 years old and has 60,000 miles on it (transmission failure!!!--i've had vehicles for 10 years with no transmission problems and three times as many miles). the business manager stated that she had seen vehicles with 3,000 miles on them fail (better watch out). the estimated cost to fix the transmission $1650. i purchased this vehicle new for reliable transportation and have had problems ever since. i have also had problems with the brakes and had to get the front rotors replaced as they were warped. my back windshield wiper hesitates before starting. it is sometimes hard to start and that has been happening since shortly after purchase. staff at the dealerships are rude and unresponsive when notified of problems. staff at the dealership informed me that repairs on my jeep for a wiring problem would take 3 days, and they ordered the wrong parts and kept my jeep for over 2 weeks (and then i had to take it back the next day due to wiring problems). i also hope chrysler is aware that they have just lost a loyal jeep owner/fan. i will never purchase another jeep and will certainly not recommend it to anyone. i can't wait to get rid of this piece of crap. *la

Consumer complained about steering problems. there was a honking noise when the steering wheel was turned. intermittently steering wheel made a popping noise while driving, especially when turning, and the steering wheel failed to go in the locked position when the vehicle was turned off. dealership didn't know what caused these problem, but there was a technical service bulletin on each of them. also, front drive axle made a wining noise while driving. *ak
2000 jeep grand cherokee 4x4 v6. the steering wheel and brake pedal would pulsate horribly and shake when applying the brakes. this problem was due to the front rotors which were not covered under warranty eventhough there are 2 technical bulletins from jeep covering this problem. dealer replaced the front rotors, calipers, and pads as suggested by the bulletins. #0500302 - cost of the repair: $552.22.(2) dealer informed me after fixing my brakes that the the rear differential has a high-pitched axle. this is caused by a faulty rear differential which needs to be redone. not covered under warranty. #0300302a - estimated cost of repair $932.00, *ak
On june 26, 2003, my wife called me stating she could not get our 2000 jeep grand cherokee to lock into park. the shifter would go into park, as well as the transmission, but the shifter button was in a bind (actually the rubber piece on the shifter button had come off and lodged in between the shifter stalk and the button). this in effect held the button in, not locking the shifter into park. i feel the only reason she knew something was wrong was the fact that she could not remove the keys from the ignition. i simply told her to put the transmission in neutral and engage the parking brake, but had she exited the car with the engine running, the shifter would have very easily moved into any drive gear which could result in 1) vehicle damage, and 2) grave bodily injury. we love the jeep, but feel this issue is highly unsafe.*ak
2000 jeep grand cherokee limited 4.7l 4x4. intermittent delayed engagement of gears when accelerating. makes roaring noise as engine increases rpm without generating torque. happens most between 20 and 50 mph. also, quadra-trak ii 4 wd no longer provides noticeable power to the front wheels. rear wheels keep spinning. dealers say everything (pumps, fluids, etc.) checks out, but formerly outstanding 4wd performance is embarrassing at best. *nlm
While driving, the automatic transmission failed to shift properly. *jb
Consumer had to use excessive force when putting the gear shifter into park, there was an owners notification reference #11022208 for the problem. *jb the consumer was unable to remove the key. scc

Consumer states the rear diferential, rear axle and inner shaft has to be replaced. daler has been notified. please provide further information. ts
Vehicle went into full throttle reverse as it was shifted out of "park". vehicle is equipped with a brake interlock that prevents shifting out of park without brake being applied. vehicle left rubber marks from all four wheels for several feet before i was able to being it under control. application of both feet to brake pedal didn't stop the acceleration and problem vanished as quickly as it appeared. all indications nominal after the event, but am now very concerned of personal liability in the event of an injury. this is a very dangerous situation and i can say with absolute certainty that the accelerator was not touched. one other detail i might mention is that as i was engaging the brake pedal to shift into reverse, something registered that the pedal "felt funny". i've attempted to recreate the problem... using the brake with the engine off to remove any vacuum assist, then starting... normal shifts from park to reverse... nothing. my profession and training allows me to be somewhat objective in this matter. i have to assume that somehow the pedal "feeling" for the brakes and the instant throttle increase are related. since there is no mechanical connection, it would lead me down the path of an electronics malfunction. i will inform chrysler and the dealer as soon as business hours start on monday, but i write this in case i am the "victim" of a similar event before the vehicle is repaired.*ak
Consumer stated the the vehicle was in park with the emergency brake engaged and engine running. the consumer exited the vehicle then it began to roll backwards and hit a brick wall. upon inspection the consumer noticed that the gear lever had shifted from park to reverse. the consumer contacted the dealer about gear shift problem prior to this accident. *ts *nlm
