We have classified the 32 complaints from 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee about VISIBILITY into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that all of the windows became inoperable. the contact mentioned that only the driver side door would unlock with the key and all other doors would unlock manually once inside of the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 185,000.
The in-dash heater/ac blend door is malfunctioning causing air flow not to be properly diverted between lower dash vents, dashboard vents and defroster vents. this is creating an unsafe condition whereby the windshield will not clear in rainstorms and will not stay defrosted in winter driving. a search on the internet and along with discussions with a local dealer working with jeeps for many years has led me to understand that this is a long-known and very common defect with jeep grand cherokees. prices to replace this blend door have ranged from $1000 to $1500 due to the fact that this is a very labor intensive replacement. i contact chrysler assistance and they suggested that i contact you to identify this safety concern so that perhaps a technical service bulletin (tsb) could be issued and chrysler would address the defective blend door for consumers experiencing this safety issue. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the blend door and the recirculation blower door were both defective. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 140,000 and the current mileage was 142,000. the vin was unavailable.
2000 jeep wj grand cherokee- heater/defroster problems due to blender door breakage.- repair requires complete removal of dash to access broken unit. costly $1500.00 repair for a relatively small part - 2 days labor (average)- safety concern not being able to defrost on cold mornings for visibility. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee, blend doors, and drivers seat. *tr
Visibility:defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower broken. *tr
I bought a 2000 jeep grand cherokee and the passenger side doesn't blow warm air it blow cold air and don't defog my passenger side door when im driving. i live in pennsylvaina its cold up here and it snows. i am a single mom and hate to have to drive my daughter around in a cold jeep also an unsafe one when my heater don't defrost this side of my jeep this is a common problem and it should be recalled to be fixed. *tr
I recently purchased this vehicle and the drivers side has no heat, due to the blend door malfunctioning. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the front passenger side defrost failed. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was contacted and informed him that the heat blender doors were broken and were not covered under warranty nor were there any recalls. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 120,000.
No defrost or heat on passenger side of vehicle, cannot see thru passenger side of windsheild when iced or foggged up. *tr
Front driver-side window drive actuator broke for the second time. window won't stay up and will not move up or down. had to have the whole window motor replaced at a cost of $500.00. the window drive actuator is plastic and apparently breaks frequently. this appears to be designed to fail. this is a defect and should be recalled. *tr
Visibility: defroster/defogger system: windshield: blower. *tr
The driver's blend door, and the passenger's blend door are not working, causing only cold air to come in on passenger and on driver side causing fog build up on the front windshield which prevents drivers vision and could cause a major accident. a known problem by jeep/dodge/chrysler but never had a recall to fix the hazardous and dangerous problem. *tr
Visibility:defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower jeep grand cherokee lmt. heater problem. i have a dual control system, that is only heating on the passenger's side. there are several complaints and the cost of repair is outrageous, the part is semi reasonable, but the labor and location makes it extremely costly. this is a danger in terms of visibility and i believe chrysler should fix the problem. several jeep owners are having the same problems, so it appears to be a manufactures defect. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee, passanger side heat does not work - blows cold air - again (10/09)! fixed this once before in 2006 (ish) for approx $800. *tr
There is no heat blowing on driver side but heat on passenger side. *tr
My 2000 jeep grand cherokee with 90,000 miles has had problems with defrosting and heating for the past year. when it is cold or rainy the windshield will not clear not matter what settings i use. i get snow and ice accumulating on my foggy windshield and i am forced to pull over in dangers conditions and scrap my windows. recently my heat has stopped working on the drivers side and i looked for information online and found numerous forums with thousands of people having the same problems with their jeep grand cherokees. people have complained for years to the dealership and daimler chrysler only to be told it was a comfort issue not a safety issue. it is s serious safety issue and i feel this needs to be looked into before someone does get hurt or worse. they are aware of the problem and the dealerships are willing to charge thousands of dollars to 'fix' problems but it should be recalled because they never fix the problem and customers are taking unnecessary risks to drive their suv's (sports utility vehicles, ironically) without heat, defrost and/or cooling. please take this complaint seriously and look and see how many other similar complaints you have gotten on the same issues with these cars. i can not afford to buy a new car and i do not want to out myself and my family as well as others at risk because one company is not responsible enough to fix such a blatant safety issue. thank you *tr
We own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo. it just started blowing cold air only out of the drivers side vents and hot air out of the passengers side vents. we understand it is a blend door malfunction which is widespread among 1998-2004 jeep grand cherokee owners. we called our local jeep dealer and they estimated it would cost between $800 and $2000 to fix as they would have to pull the entire dash out of the car. this is simply unacceptable for an owner to have to pay all of this money to repair a manufacturing deficit in the original design. about every jeep owner we know has faced this problem. we feel you should demand that jeep recalls all of the jeeps and fix them at their expense. *tr
The hvac system on our 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited has broken and is unable to direct air at the proper temperature to the proper places. the defect appears to be related to electronically controlled dampers in the ductwork that have failed. this prevents our defroster from working as effectively as it should and is also an irritant to the driver when it's 110 degrees outside in the texas heat. googling the problem identifies it as a common breakage and is related to the use of cheap plastic materials in the damper mechanism. i believe this should be covered as part of a manufacturers recall campaign. *tr
When heater is on we only get heat out on the driver side only. cold air blows out on the passenger side. then no heat from any side of unit. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee. passenger side vents blow extremely cold air, even with the heat turned on. with negative temperatures this past week, this makes driving the vehicle nearly impossible. this is a widespread issue that is a known vehicle flaw and extremely costly to fix. this isn't about comfort, but about safety in winter weather!!! *tr
The dual climate control has been not functional due to the fact that my blend door actuator is stock on vent. this has caused me great discomfort and severe safety issues because i can not circulate any warm air in my car or defrost. i sincerely hope jeep does a recall, not only to keep valued customers, but to prevent any serious accidents due to the fact that the defrost is completely disfunctional. *tr
I own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. the heating works fine on the driver's side of the vehicle, but only cold air blows from the vents on the passenger side. my internet review suggests that it won't be long before i lose heat on the driver's side. this is apparently a very common problem with jeep grand cherokees ... and chrysler knows it. the fix is very expensive ... blend air door actuator, or something like that. this will become a safety hazard when i am unable to defrost the windshield. chrysler should recall and fix! *tr
No heat on passenger side of 2000 grand jeep cherokee. *tr
My jeep grand cherokee was operating perfectly, and apparently the "blend door" or something in the heating/cooling system is messed up. it starts blowing cold air for no reason some times, even to the point of fogging the windshield in cold weather. *tr
Heater and defroster failed to work and nearly caused an accident as windshield would not defrost. problem was diagnosed to be a blend door failure with failure codes 38,51,54 and 56. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee - dual control heater blend door malfunctions. no heat on the passenger side. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee heater quit working and makes it dangerous to drive in cold weather because you can not keep windows defrosted. it is a known problem with this vehicle. *tr
i own a 2000 jeep grand cherokee limited with 151,400 miles. the events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of jeep. consequently,(1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. to correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. according to the certified service department at the local jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 jeep grand cherokee limiteds with duel zone ventilation systems. *tr
2000 jeep grand cherokee limited blend doors. *tr
Ventilation system, i have a noise in the dashboard and my vents are blowing cold air, and it is a dual heating system. this is going to cost me 800.00 to fix. i hear this is a recurring problem in this vehicle and has anything been done about it. *tr
I started hearing creaking noises inside the dash several months ago. this would normally occur when i turned the engine off, or turned the heat or a/c off. a week ago the passenger side vents starting blowing cold air only, regardless of temperature settings. i was told at my mechanic that this was a known blend door issue with 1999 to 2004 jeep grand cherokees. i was told this would be approximately $1000 to repair. *tr
My 2000 jeep grand cherokee only blows cold air out of the passenger side vents regardless of the temperature setting. it has been doing this for several weeks now. it does not appear that it will ever be corrected. *tr
Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower i have a 2000 jeep that the defogger does not work properly, and from what i have learned, chrysler has known about this problem for some time and has failed to act on the problem as far as a recall! this is a dangerous issue with most jeeps. this failure occurs everyday due to the fact the blend doors are broken as part of faulty manufacturing. i can't even defrost the windshield due to this problem. i don't mind fixing the problem, but when i learn that chrysler knew of this problem long ago, i think they need to bear some of the burden. thank you. *tr
Automatic climate control system acts erratically. regardless of what settings are used, hot air will blow out one side while cold blows out the other. sometimes which side is cold or hot will switch. i am filing this with the nhtsa because this is a major safety hazard. because my automatic climate control doesn't work correctly, i have no windshield defroster. we have been receiving a lot of rain lately and the temperatures have been dropping. my windshield keeps getting foggy and i can't clear it. i have to pull over and wipe it off with a towel just to have it fog up again a few minutes later while i'm trying to drive. in the winter, the windshield will freeze over and it is very difficult to keep clear visibility. i can deal with being uncomfortable, but no defroster is a major problem. i have taken the vehicle into a dealership and have been told the cost of repair will be at least $1200. after researching online, it appears this is a very common problem. my fathers 99' jeep grand cherokee had the same problem. jeep has identified a design flaw and has replacement parts, but they will not fix the problem under warranty unless the vehicle is still in warranty. this is a major design flaw and a major safety issue. jeep didn't have a fix for this until the jeep was well out of warranty. i put today's date as the incident date, but this has been happening for the past year. it is considerably worse now and the vehicle will be unsafe to drive this winter. *tr
The blower motor resistor has melted! (fire hazard) now we only have cold air blowing from our vents. no heat. someone said it is the blend doors. apparently lots of ppl have this problem! (it is soon to be winter time) also, creaking/motor sounds come from the dash when the vehicle is off?!?! *tr
Climate controls stopped working. no warning just one day started blowing warm air out of passenger side and cold air out of driver side. the winter season is upon us now and somehow i need to find $1400.00 so i don't freeze while commuting back and fourth from my job. its a blend door that stopped working? after searching around for an answer, i find that this problem has affected an overwhelming number of other jeep owners. *tr
The heat/ac unit on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee stopped working on the passenger side, now the driver side has no heat. it appears to be a major problem with all jeeps 1999 and newer, and it has never been a subject of a recall. *tr
My jeep grand cherokee, 2000 model, have a common failure with the blend doors in the ventilation system. this is a well know error on these cars, and happens with every one of them. i have a dual ventilation system that controls each side of the car. *tr
Little to no heat. mainly i am getting very little heat from the passenger side (not blowing like drivers side and drivers side as well as passenger side not heating as it should. *tr
Ventilation system is blowing cold air even with the heat on. *tr
My blend door that controls my heat and a/c on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee is broken. i've done a lot of research on this problem. there are alot of jeep owners with the same/similar problem. this should totally be a recall and should be fixed by jeep/chrysler. *tr
Passenger side window fell down while driving. will not go up. have not fixed but understand price for fix is around $500. *tr
Power window manufacturers defect could cause severe problems in cold weather. jeep gr cherokee 2000 model/year has a plastic part that crimps and fails in the regulator for the power window assembly. multiple websites reveal the problem is pervasive with jeep owners. *tr
Only cold air blows from the right side vents on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee. this began the end of this past winter. this problem affects the heat vents and the defrost vent, therefore causes a safety hazard, as the right side windshield ices up. from my searches, this appears to be a big problem, effecting many jeep owners. my mechanic at the dealership, said it would be about a grand to fix. he also did not even ask me if i wanted to get it fix, almost like it was too time consuming and did not want me to get it fixed. so, therefore i have not had it fixed yet. *tr
Passenger side a/c vents started blowing cool air does not warm up at all when heater is cut on. *tr
I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee. i have no heat and can't defrost the windows. i took it to a chrysler dealer and they told me the bender boards need to be replaced at a cost of about $1,200/. i did some research and there are a lot of people that are complaining about this issue with jeep. this is obviously a design flaw and should be recalled and fixed by chrysler at no charge to the customer. *tr
When heater is on, my vehicle heater blows only out of the driver side vents. cold air blows out on the passenger side. the vehicle also blows no a/c on the passenger side. *tr
The blend air door in not working properly, causing the heater not to work on the passenger side. *tr
Cold air blows in through passenger side vents. *tr
