Fuel/propulsion: the vehicle will run after starting for 5-8 minutes then the rpm's drop to 300 and acts like its going to stall; then.the car begins bucking, jerking, and revving up. there are loud clunks from the engine compartments. i have replaced the cam & crankshaft sensors, throttle position sensor and no change yet. next i am going to replace the fuel pump, filter, the fuel line between them. air bags: the airbag light goes on and off. the only fix i have read about is the clock spring...talk about money pit!! brakes: yes. front brakes have locked up and caused issues. discs and calipers have been replaced. also, driver's side break light is not functional. the tail lights work, but once the brake is depressed, the right and top lights work, but the driver's light is off. and just for fun...i've had to replace both side mirrors due to internal springs failing as well as both front window regulators and motors. when i went to autozone to get parts, they correct window regulator was under the 2000 model year; 1999 did not fit. we are gonna get rid of this jeep...chrysler needs a lesson in taking responsibility. we'll buy a toyota. *tr

Many times it is almost impossible to unlatch either the passenger or driver seat belt without much tugging and pulling. in an emergency situation, this could be catastrophic. my dealer has no recommendation. when i turn my steering wheel, usually to the right, the air bag notification signal will come on, indicating the air bag is not inflated properly. this seems to me to be a safety issue, but the dealer says there is no recall and has quoted me about $1000 to repair this situation. i am the original owner, and the car has never been in an accident where the air bag was deployed. i have checked online and many others have this same problem with their 1999 jeep grand cherokees. *tr

No accident report to file but the potential associated with the air bag light intermittently going on/off while driving the 1999 jeep gcl. after viewing some postings on line there is a definite trend associated with these units. easiest, least expensive fix is to pull fuse for the air bag controls, i put up with the annoying chime but wonder if the air bag will work during these intermittent faults. have you seen any reports of accidents with 1999 jeeps with no air bag deployment??? most apparent cause is the clockspring mechanism in the steering wheel, which only the dealer can repair. time for a recall!!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the air bag warning light would flash while driving at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the air bag sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 130,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the abs warning light illuminated, indicating that the air bags would not deploy if the vehicle was involved in a crash. the contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer or mechanic for a diagnostic test. the contact researched the abs malfunction online and noticed that the clock spring could have been the cause of the failure. the failure mileage was 198,000.

Faulty clock spring caused the air bag light to come on and not function correctly. *tr

Air bag lights and chime keep coming on.was told air bags will not work. factory defect. *tr

The air bag light comes on and off randomly and the chime dings. it seams to do it when the stering wheel is turned. i suspect it is a faulty clock spring and i've found several issues of this on many jeep forums. this is a serious safety issue because the airbags may not deploy in an accident. *tt

We have owned our 1999 grand cherokee since 1999 - its been a great car but every single issue listed on this website has befallen us. currently @ 149k miles we have no heat on the driver side due to blend door assembly, the airbag light goes off all the time and there is no heat in the drivers side seat. i am shocked that so many people have the exact same issues and that to me says there is truly something wrong. we also took part in a class action suit that covered some of the expenses we had in continually replacing the brakes - especially the rotors which warp with out notice and can do that if you just step on the brakes to hard! even if you have just had them replaced. cheap parts? i am a die hard jeep owner but after reading all of these postings i am wondering if my alliance should be elsewhere? *tr

Air bag light comes on and off. an investigation found it is probably the clock spring located in steering column and if an impact occurs air bag will not deploy.

I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee with 110,000 miles and the air bag light comes on and chimes. i have been told by a dealer i need a new clock spring. this is a very expensive repair and i have found it to be a very, very common problem and should be addressed with a recall. *tr

The airbag system stopped working on my 1999 jeep grand cherokee and my warning light came on. i've taken it in to the dealer and they reset the sensor and as i drive away from the dealer the warning light comes back on. after doing a little research online i've concluded that this is a common safety issue in 1999 jeep grand cherokees. the manufacturer needs to resolve this safety issue. *tr

Went over a bump in the road from a manhole cover and the car chimed and the air bag light illuminated. upon further investigation it appears to be a faulty clockspring which when it fully breaks the airbag will not longer function. this part is inaccessible to be broken from an outside source and controls whether the driver's side airbag works; a failure of it should be considered for recall as it is a faulty part. hundreds of online forums have people complaining of this same issue.

The airbag light constantly comes on and chimes in my 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo. it is mostly noted when i am steering the vehicle through turns. *tr

Two complaints-(1) at approximately 120,000 miles the driver's front seat bracket broke and began leaning the seat backwards. after another 8,000 miles the bracket completely broke. it was welded by a professional welder and replaced. at approximately 138,000 miles it broke again and will have to be welded again but i cannot afford to pay to have it fixed right now. i researched and found that this is a very, very common complaint and safety issue on my model-99 jeep grand cherokee. (2) at approximately 142,000 miles the air bag light began coming on and going off intermittently and now it does so frequently, especially when turning. i have been advised by a mechanic friend that it is the clockspring wires in the steering column and hat only a dealer can fix it. like the seat problem, this is a safety issue and from my research i have found that it is a very, very common issue as well. i cannot afford to have a dealer replace the clockspring as i have been quoted upwards of $300 to do so. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. while traveling 35 mph, the contact stated that the air bag light suddenly illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the clock spring needed to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the current and failure mileages were approximately 127,000. updated 01/14/11 *bf updated 04/04/11

1999 jeep grand cherokee- 112,000 mile.-air bag light comes on and "dings" when the steering wheel is turned to the left. the light stays on for about five to ten seconds depending on the length of the turn. concern is that air bag will not function properly in a crash situation. this began a couple of months ago with intermittent occurrences but is increasing in frequency. internet reports from consumers show this to be a common problem with the 1999 jgc. shouldn't this be looked into? it costs several hundred dollars to repair this safety issue at a dealer. this seems to be a manufacturer defect. *tr

Rear passenger tail light does not work at night or rather when the car lights are turned on. mechanic has replaced bulb, re-bent the connection, but the light still is not visible when lights are turned on. when lights are out, brake light, reverse light and turn signal work. my son has been pulled over by police thinking the lights had been fixed. its only a matter of time before he receives a ticket. our mechanic has offered to try and fix it without replacing both back light assemblies. *tr

Driving home early morning during a snowstorm, a snowplow went through a stop sign and my vehicle hit him dead center totaling my vehicle. even though this was a frontal collision neither the driver's or passenger's air bags deployed resulting in injury to the driver. *tr

Air bag light is now and keeps beeping. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. while making a left turn the air bag warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the steering wheel clock spring was replaced. the failure mileage was 72,000. the current mileage was 102,169.

Airbag light is flashing on and off. *tr

1999 jeep grand cherokee limited. airbag light and chime annoyance, was told by a dealer that when the light is on the airbag will not deploy in the event of a vehicle accident. this is a safety issue and i cannot break this item with everyday use and therefore should not be required to fix it out of my pocket. the light and chime happen continuously and although that is very annoying it is also a serious safety concern. *tr

1999 jeep grand cherokee air bag sensor/light comes on needs to be a recall when it comes to safety and many more like me. *tr

I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo with 100k miles. the airbag light turns on periodically with a "ding" and then shuts off. i believe that this is a problem from the factory because a number of other owners of this same vehicle model have complained of this exact problem around the same amount of mileage. jeep should make this a recall because it is a safety issue and it was caused by faulty parts not the owners. *tr

I own a 1999 jeep grand cherokee with 170,000 miles. recently, the airbag warning light will ding and light-up. the light will then turn off after a few seconds and then may relight again. this problem has been occurring for the past few weeks. i have not yet tried to correct the failure because the problem may not happen for a few days and then start again. *tr

Failure of air bag clock spring. *tr

I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee and have problems with the air bag sensor. while driving the light and chime go off randomly and constantly. after researching it on the internet i found that many many other owners of the same vehicle are having the identical problem - see http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/jeep-grand-cherokee/t92ek7li3qqu98eco. this is a safety issue, it is obviously a defective part across many vehicles and yet the manufacturer is putting the $300+ cost to fix it on the owners.*tr

Airbag light and chime continuously and randomly are displayed while driving...dealer indicates the solution is "probably" a defective clock spring. *tr

My 1999 jeep grand cherokee has the airbag light coming on and off. i have researched this on the internet and have found many people with the same problem, the clock spring in the steering wheel needs to be replaced. i believe this is a major problem with the jeep in general. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the air bag warning light illuminated intermittently and was followed by a beeping sound. when the dealer was notified concerning nhtsa campaign id number 00v105000 (air bags), the contact was informed that his vin was not included in the recall. the current mileage was 111,757 and failure mileage was 111,257. updated 07/15/08 *bf the vehicle was repaired. updated 07/15/08

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that the air bag light would illuminate intermittently. he also heard a chiming sound coming from the air bag area. the contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer; however, he consulted two chrysler dealers that stated there were no relevant recalls. the purchase date was unknown. the current mileage was 120,121 and failure mileage was 120,098.

The air bag fault indicator keeps chiming. *tr

Nothing leading up tp this issue... about 150000 miles on it when it started. airbag light and alarm go on and off randomly ( 1-2 times per minute) while driving. dealer says replace entire airbag for more than $2000. are they kidding? *tr

Air bag warning light consistently and intermittently comes on and off. it is a very common problem with 1999 jeep grand cherokees. it is unreliable and poses a safety concern with it's drivers. *tr

I and numerous others it seems (see http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/jeep-grand-cherokee/t92ek7li3qqu98eco ) own jeep grand cherokees with comparable mileage at over 100,000 (my vehicle is at 134,000 miles), which are experiencing a mechanical problem involving the airbag light which comes on constantly when the engine is running in conjunction with a "chime" sound. with the widespread occurrence of this problem, many of us are wondering why chrysler hasn't issued a recall. also of concern is whether or not the airbag could possibly deploy unexpectedly or fail to deploy as a result of whatever problem is causing the light to come on (many have reported that it turned out to be the airbag clockspring). could you please investigate this matter or at least tell me what other action i might take to force the manufacturer to initiate a recall. thank you for your time and help in this matter. cynthia koklas pace, florida *tr

Airbag clock spring failed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the airbag warning light indicator illuminated on and off periodically while driving the vehicle. the vehicle has not been taken to a dealer for diagnose or to be repaired. the current mileage was 97,000., and the failure mileage was 95,000. *ak

Dt: 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the consumer states the air bags sensor module is faulty. the light goes on, and it not making communication with the air bags. the dealership states the consumer needs a new module. this started september 11, 2005.*ak

Air bag light comes on and stays on, this is a safty problem because the air bags will not deploy if i was in a accident. *jb
