Problems with 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

On several occasions consumer had problems with the catalytic converter being plugged, manufacturer notified. *tt

1999 defective chrysler grand jeep cherokee.***no answer required***. *mr the consumer experienced repeated problems with the rotors, pads and calipers. the consumer has experienced hard vibration not only in the front end of the vehicle, but the steering wheel, floor, seat and instrument panel. the vibration was so severe the consumer would lose control of the steering wheel. the rotors would heat up, the caliper froze. the intermediate shaft was replaced, the rear latch was lubricated due to squeaking. the battery was replaced because the consumer had a hard time starting the vehicle. *jb

Dead battery from overnight flickering of lights. difficulty with lowering/raising right front passenger window, appears to have no power. left headlamp appears to be burned out, when ride over bump it goes on. lights/headlights on dashboard flicker on/off while car is in garage parked. when driving and lights flicker on/off, it appears to get a surge of power and car surges forward.have taken to dealer and they cannot find anything wrong with it.*ak

Came home from work, parked car in driveway. within 5 minutes a fire erupted in the engine compartment. i called the fire department who extinguished the fire. the car was declared a total loss. neither daimler chrysler nor my insurance company could determine the origin of the fire.*ak

Noone in car, electrical fire, car totally burned, crysler taking no resonsibility. *ak

Driving 35 mph at which time smoke began to emanate from rear of vehicle and quickly began to fill entire interior. after pulling over, shutting off engine and exiting vehicle, opened back passenger side door to see flames which appeared to be coming from underneath back passenger seat (right side). within a matter of seconds, flames had spread throughout entire interior and engulfed entire vehicle. vehicle was declared a total loss at the scene by attending police and firefighters.

Electrical system : instrument panel: cluster module works intermittently. speedometer and all gauges would go down without prior warning. dealer has not found remdy, and advised consumer that problem was not a safety defect. defect could probe consumer into an automobile accident with speedometer not working.*ak

Vehicle was parked at rest area. when consumer returned he saw smoke coming from underneath of vehicle. when he unlatched the hood, consumer noticed that plastic component was on fire, and there were a lot of wires that were melted. *ak

Brake rotors warped, and subsequently replaced with same quality, thus are warped again, causing severe shaking to front end upon braking. mfg. zone mgr refuses to correct situation, stating it is wear and tear, (nhtsa campaign-00v136000). starter drags intermittently upon starting with a complete failure at 500 miles. mfg will not replace starter until it completely fails again. heat is resricted to drivers feet, and high pitched sound is heard as a result of the restriction. mfg. tech service bulletin on file for problem, but dealer calls it normal. remote control memory side view mirrors will not reset to proper positions, thus causing a safety issue, as mirrors are never in the same place twice. dealer observed problem and disregarded same. pittsburgh zone manager contacted by dealer. mgr refuses to do anything, even though safety issues are involved, as with brakes, mirrors, and starting problem. *ak

The entire electrical system has to be replaced. nothing works. not the windows, the locks, the alarm, nothing! this is the 2nd time for the windows. 1st time was when it was 4 mths old. the engine stalls frequently and jerks on the highway. it often shifts to overdrive for no apparant reason and makes a lot of funny sounds. i've been to the dealer numerous times, each time they have an "oh well, it's still under warranty, just deal with it" attitude. now, b/c i live in the atlanta area, there's a lot of miles on it, but when i first complained there wasn't many at all. this is ridiculous. one thing that i've done and i encourage others to do, since i can't get satisfaction or assistance from the dealers or manufacturer... i've written, in big bold letters (w/window paint) on my windows, all the things that are wrong with it, and i strongly urge others not to buy a jeep...aka...a lemon! this is ridiculous...something should be done about consumer rip-offs!*ak

Dealer examined and replaced the control unit twice. no help. idle speed is too low (400mph)! i want jeep to do something. it's a lemon! *ak

For 7 to 10 miles when applying brakes there is jerking and pulsation, dealer stated that front brake rotors were warped.*ak consumer states keyless remote works intermittently. the battery failed, the head lights come on by themselves when it was in auto setting and the parking lights also come on at times due to multifunction switch failure. *yh

Vehicle has had continuous problem with the transmission slipping and lurching forward at stops. the transmission also intermittently slips and makes loud clunking noises while driving. dealer says that they do not find a problem. despite over 45 days at

Strong vibration in steering wheel column when brake is applied firmly at high speed. driver side windows fails to operate. defective wiring harness in rear door causes warning chimes when going over bumps or making sharp turns. *ak

Vehicle stalling is leaving my family wde open for rear and side impact. this lemon should not be on the road, and the selling dealer stated ther is no more he could do for our vehicle. *ak

Abs light, and brake light came on, indicating a brake malfunction.*ak wiring to the right wheel speed sensor was cut by lower control arm. the vehicle has electrical and suspension problems. driver and passenger side power windows inoperative. fuel pump failed. vehicle is leaking transmission fluid due to pan gasket failure. fuel is leaking from fuel tank due to defective fuel sending unit seal. abs light, air bag lights are on and a/c blinkers are not working due to ignition switch looses. vehicle makes noise due to power steering gear assembly failure. *yh

Clunks constantly when shifting from park to reverse, goes in excess of 13mph and there is a electrical problem. i am on my third battery. it's been to 2 dealerships numerous times with the problem not being resolved, including arbitration!

While in reverse and going into drive, the vehicle stalled unexpectedly which might have caused an accident. also, when starting vehicle with the headlight switch on, the headlights go off when instructed to be on. been to dealer several times. dealer cannot determine problem, they say it might be the computer module, but have not fixed that part. *ak
