My jeep violently shakes when i'm driving speeds of 50+ and it is very dangerous because as we all know highways and freeways are speeds between 55 and 70 and i cannot drive over 50. the other day it started to shake so bad that i had to pull over and almost hit the cement guard rail. i have to transport my grandchildren from time to time and god forbid anything happen to them chrysler will be responsible. i have done research and this issue is called the death wobble and is the perfect name for it. they need to do a recall on this issue before someone gets killed. please make chrysler do the right thing and fix this problem.

Excessive engine knocking with power loss and abnormal driving capabilites. sounds like bad internals. suspension causes "death wobble" at cruising speeds. engine happens anytime engine is running producing large quantities of smoke from tailpipe.

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the rear passenger side sub frame became fractured without warning. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was unable to be repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 100,000. the vin was not available. *tr

I had a minor hit in rear ..and fuel skid plate got pushed in and almost ruptured gas tank..this happened over a year ago ..now the skid plate is starting to rot/rust out and it would cost over $600.00 to repair ..due to the june 2013 recall of this item i think chrysler should be responsible for this repair ..i contacted them and they said i would not be covered because i did not have a hitch attached to my car ..this is wrong ...what goes here ..can anything be done about this ..i fear now driving my jeep because i have no gas tank skid plate left .. *tr

Four times in the last year, the vehicle when traveling over 50mph, develops what online research describes as "death wobble". the steering wheel vibrates suddenly in your hands, the front end wobbles and it is difficult to control. slowing down below 50mph usually resolves the issue...but that is an unacceptable solution. seems to happen when the vehicle is warmed up and has traveled 20+ miles. a major national tv channel has produced a news article about this with film of the vehicle during the "death wobble". we believe that congress has asked jeep about this issue previously. the jeep company in our town suggested rotating tires and checking brakes. they claim to have never heard of this issue, however there are lots of online complaints. in addition to lots of complaints, there's been lots of money spent on lots of parts and labor to fix the issue. everyone seems to have a different opinion as to what the problem and solution are. even though there are only 45000 miles on the vehicle, it cannot be trusted to provide a safe journey. we are disappointed with the company and vehicle. hoping for a recall soon! (on a side note, a neighbor of ours has also experienced this same issue with his jeep. if we are aware of 2 people with the same issue, it has to be a major issue with the vehicle.) please help. thanks. *tr

When driving at a speed of 55 mph or above, and having to brake, the jeep immediately goes into a terrifying death wobble. we've trained ourselves to down shift, to slow the vehicle down (it's an automatic). but there are times when we do have to suddenly hit the brake because the down shifting doesn't slow us down enough, and the jeep always goes into the death wobble. luckily we have not flipped it yet. we've tried to fix the problem with new rotters, brake pads, wheel alignment, etc (the jeep is not lifted, it is stock). nothing has cured it. there is a fatal accident waiting to happen.

I also have the "death wobble." i have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee. i have not installed a lift kit or oversized tires. i have a 2-wheel drive so not taken off-road. my mechanic has replaced the steering are and says there is no equipment problem. i have had my tires rotated, balanced, and aligned. they say there is no tire or alignment issue. the "death wobble" still exists. it appears my only alternative is to get rid of my jeep. that is a problem. i will fight, i'm not happy! what can i do? what are my rights at this point? please help? it happens on a regular basis, and i can demonstrate almost at will. if others are having this same issue, deaths will occur! *tr

I own a 1999 grand cherokee limited jeep. the front rotor disk has warped due to the heat created when applying the brakes. as a result the steering wheel vibrates violently on the application of the brakes. the rotor & calipers have been changed! when will chrysler help to resolve an issue, which is obviously a manufacturing fault? *tr

Tie rod ends replaced . cooling fan sensor , front wheel bearings, rear differential completely rebuilt, what's next? will never buy a chrysler product again!!!!!!!!*jb

A loud grinding noise was coming from the front. while applying the brakes the noise escalated repeatedly. consumer took vehicle vehicle to the dealer for inspection. however, mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem. *ak

A mechanic and the state inspector indicated, upon inspection that the truck will fail inspection. the left outer tire rod and left upper ball joints are lose and the truck shouldn't be driven.*ak

99 jeep grand cherokee with engine problems customer states that the rpm's would immediately go up to the 200 or sometimes higher as soon as he starts up the car and also accelerate when the brakes are applied**cc the consumer stated various parts were replaced, however the problem returned. the consumers wife was driving, when all of a sudden the vehicle started to accelerate on its own, she applied the brakes as hard as she could, however the vehicle continued to proceed in a forward motion. the only solution was to place the vehicle into park. after placing the vehicle in park, the consumers wife placed it in drive again and immediately it started to accelerate uncontrollably. applying the brakes with full force did not solve the problem. when aaa arrived and started the vehicle, nothing happened. the sudden acceleration happened again while the consumers daughter was driving. during one of the sudden acceleration incidents, the consumers wife was injured. the right front wheel speed sensor was replaced. the coolant radiator fan relay and water pump were replaced. the air bag light was on, the transmission seal was leaking. the fuel pump was replaced. the right and left hub bearing were replaced. *jb

The vehicle tends to shake. while the vehicle slows down and brakes it causes steering shake, making the vehicle hard to maneuver, especially when slowing down on the highway.*ak the consumer stated that she almost wrecked the vehicle due to the shaking of the vehicle on a daily basis. *tc

Because front wheels were running hot and vehicle was vibrating when using the brakes, front wheel bearings had to be replaced at 62,000 miles. chrysler "800+ added care" waranty does not cover those bearings on 4wd jeeps but does cover them on front-wheel drive jeeps (?)*ak

My 1999 jeep grand cherokee (gc) limited 8 cylinder quadradrive has given me nothing but problems since i bought it in october of 2002. i had the transfer seal replaced due to it leaking, the differential makes noise, the all wheel drive does not work (all wheel drive only works in low), and the tires lock up and make a noise when i am turning. it seems that their are other 1999 jeep gc owners out there with the same problem. how about a recall to fix this problem? *la

While driving at 50 mph, the steering wheel started to shake and pulled to right. problem still exists. *la there was another occasion where the vehicle had gone out of control on wet metal grading due to the problem not being resolved. as of 12/15/03, nothing was done to repair the problem. (the right rear axle housing was bent) *sc *jb

1999 grand cherokee jeep.. limited edition..the shocks freeze up or the fluid is freezing up..it is fine in the summer..but just as soon as it turns cold the shocks freeze. this jeep is kept in a garage..not outside..it sounds horrible when you drive it. it starts as soon as it turns the least bit cold. *ak

Broken window motor, seat belt mounting bolts, leaking rear shock absorbers, etc...*mr the consumer felt jeep should fix the outstanding problems with the axles and the transmission and give a warranty for the power train. the vehicle experienced a noise while in motion. also the broken window lift leaked, the rear absorbers failed, the rear passenger window leaked air, the seat belt mounting bolts failed, and a potential fire hazard on the manifold debris shield, the brake pedal pulsated wildly(front were rotors turned), the passenger window had stuck shut, the exterior mirror had broken off, and the transmission slammed into reverse. there was a buzz in the rear which had progressed to a howl. refer to odi# 10027025 *scc *jb *jb *jb *cb

Front and rear shock absorbers fail and leak fluids requiring replacment. first incident, front an rear shocks replaced at 36000 miles. at 54,000 miles the same problem happened again. chrysler admitted on the phone that they had problems with the shocks. chrysler refuses to replace defective shocks. ride and handling are affected negatively. *ak

Consumer states vehicle was taken in on a routine visit. mechanic stated rear bearing is defected, and ring and pinion is damaged. please provide any further information. mr

While driving over 50mph and applying brakes steering wheel will rock side to side vibrating heavily, and it will be hard for the consumer to control vehicle. dealer notified.*ak

The wheel bearings failed. *jb

The rear wheels locked up causing the vehicle to spin 180 degrees and crushed with another vehicle. the cause was determined to be a broken clip that holds rear axle in place. left rear axle, bearing and seal were replaced. the clipper mounting bracket was replaced. *yh

Vehicle continues to pull right after 2 alignments. random, loud mechanical clunk coming from right underside when going over small bumps or drop-offs. brake pedal shudders again after having rotors replaced first, then more recently lapped via on-vehicle lathe. steering ticks / clunks at random. moan from under hood when turning at slow speeds. acrid white smoke from under left hood getting into passenger compartment when spinning 4-wheels in snow.*ak

There is vibrating in steering wheel when driving vehicle over 50 mph. this is an intermittent problem. contacted dealer, and the dealer is not willing to do anything.*ak

Vehicle was making a loud noise. took it to dealer who indicated rear end went out on vehicle. *ak consumer states that carrier bearings and pinion bearings originally failed at 64000 miles and failed again at 94000. *yh

Vehicle pulls to either side when driving, taken to dealer several times. dealer adjusted steering box, it did not remedy the problem.*ak

Front wheel bearings had to be replaced. please add further information. *ak

While driving vehicle will pull to the right. the faster the vehicle is going the more it will pull to the right. dealership cannot fix problem. ts

Vehicle has problems in rear end. when braking rear end feels like someone just kicked it, and same thing happens when accelerating. contacted dealer.*ak *et

At 45-55 mph steering wheel vibrates. vehicle taken to dealer 12 times, cannot remedy.*ak

While driving could step on brake pedal and steering wheel will shake. brake rotors had to be replaced three times already. *ak all shock absorbers need replacement at 23,000 miles. *yh

After almost twice a month trips to the service provider and being told that my allignment was a result of my driving there was a recall posted for a part that caused allignment problems. although this was eventually fixed, my tires suffered and had to be replaced very prematurely. after contacting goodyear and chrysler i was told the tires were my responsibility and that the "bad" part would not have caused significant tire damage. i still feel that although the problem is better it is still apparent and i would like it to be resolved. after owning this car for less than 2 years the myriad of major component failures is rather frustrating especially when the jeep service providers won't acknowledge the problem and seem to not care about their customers who pay their salaries. this is an embarressment to the american car industry. *ak

When decelerating from above 55 mph, steering wheel vibrates in the 50-55 mph causing dangerous condition in controlling vehicle. vehicle returned to dealer four times. two times rotor ground, once replaced, once we were told wheels need balanced (not). problem still present. excessive brake dust on front wheels. drive hwy everyday, dangerous condition should be addressed.

During activation of brake system traveling at any speed there is a pulsation in the brakes, there is a squeaking noise, and vehicle pulls to the right. dealership has examined vehicle three times, and failed to remedy the problem. brake rotors and front stabilizer bars have been replaced.*ak consumer stated there was also a possible oil leak, dealer replaced the tie rod to pitman arm and the real pinion seal, also the steering dampner assembly was replaced, and the engine surges at times sometimes hesitates, also there was a leak behind the driver/rear floorboard.

while drving vehicle pulsated and steering wheel vibrated. sometimes vehicle was hard to steer. took vehicle to dealer three times. please provide any further information.*ak

When braking at high speedsjeep wobbles on front right side. jeep was taken to dealership on august 4, 1999. there, the rotors were either turned/ grinded. please provide any furhter information. *ak

Within four years approximately 8,000-10,000 miles both front brake rotors had to be turned twice and then replaced. also, both front calipers had to be replaced. this causes vehicle to vibrate and make a grinding noise when braking. dealer and manufacturer were notified, and were unable to locate the cause. *ak the brakes pulsated while driving. the dash vent did not work, and the air only worked through the defrost.*ts the consumer stated the front end of the vehicle felt loose, the dealer discovered the ball joints needed to be replaced. the driver side rear quarter panel was loose*jb

Rear suspension squeaks on drop-off/body roll movements; transmission gear linkage scrubs into park. *ak

The vehicle jerks forward after coming to a complete stop. *ak

Several dealerships have not been able to resolve problem. front tires are grinding away the interior wall of the wheel wells. tire is now grinding on steel chasis and beginning to erode itself. chrysler has no solution after 6-8 visits for repair in 4 months. mechanics recommend the car not be driven until a solution can be found due to safety reasons...in the meantime i have purchased a new vehicle i can not drive and neither the dealership nor chrysler will replace the defective vehicle.( dot number: tire size: 245/70/r16 )

Continued problems with vehicle. no safety defect (s) listed in summary. *ak

The brakes and rotors were serviced on 5 different occasions. *ts. the weather strip was loose on the right rear door, also the vehicle pulled to the right. *jb

It appears that something in the front end is out of alignment or out of balance, and that has been causing front end components to wear out. the symptoms are steering wheel shaking and rotors that wear/wap at an abnormally high rate, causing brake pulsation. to date the steering column/linkages have been worked on 4 times. the front and rear brakes have been serviced/replaced 8 times. at one point the steering linkages was so loose that any change in the road surface caused a change in vehicle direction.*ak

While making a sharp turn vehicle would shake / vibrate, causing loss of control. also, driveshaft yoke assembly failed. seeking help from nhtsa in this matters, the power train differential unit makes whine noise between 54-65 mph. *yc

The automatic transmission has an erratic hard clunk shift from 1 to 2, as well as a down shift from 3 to 2, dealer says this is normal. the vehicle pulls to the right, dealer confirmed that the left rear toe was out of spec., dealer slotted rear trailing arm mounting point, but car still pulls to the right.

From delivery date i notice a squeal and whining noise at highways speeds, when the gas is unapplied. *ak

Oscillating noise/virbration coming from front, under drive at 70mph,disappears under coast. *ak

Abs light, and brake light came on, indicating a brake malfunction.*ak wiring to the right wheel speed sensor was cut by lower control arm. the vehicle has electrical and suspension problems. driver and passenger side power windows inoperative. fuel pump failed. vehicle is leaking transmission fluid due to pan gasket failure. fuel is leaking from fuel tank due to defective fuel sending unit seal. abs light, air bag lights are on and a/c blinkers are not working due to ignition switch looses. vehicle makes noise due to power steering gear assembly failure. *yh

While turning left or right vehicle makes noise and front end'jumps' and skids. *ak
