Had car 1 yr, 62,xxx mi; when we test drove with 36,xxx miles, the brakes shook violently when braking; dealer installed new rotors; 3 months later i replaced brakes; 3 months after that vibrating again - rotors turned and replaced brakes again; brakes are squeaking again now; in shop for third time for transmission problems - slips gears, clunking in low gears, won't shift, surges ahead when stopping; revs up prior to shifting; dealer keeps replacing parts to fix the problem; replaced 2 electrical window regulators (drivers & passengers side). this gorgeous vehicle is a nightmare. *jb
Broken window motor, seat belt mounting bolts, leaking rear shock absorbers, etc...*mr the consumer felt jeep should fix the outstanding problems with the axles and the transmission and give a warranty for the power train. the vehicle experienced a noise while in motion. also the broken window lift leaked, the rear absorbers failed, the rear passenger window leaked air, the seat belt mounting bolts failed, and a potential fire hazard on the manifold debris shield, the brake pedal pulsated wildly(front were rotors turned), the passenger window had stuck shut, the exterior mirror had broken off, and the transmission slammed into reverse. there was a buzz in the rear which had progressed to a howl. refer to odi# 10027025 *scc *jb *jb *jb *cb
This is the second time in six months that the seat supports have broken away. i am not a big person and the seat is not often moved. this structural failure of the seat is unusual, when abuse is not present, chrysler should be assistance, when it is apparent that there is a either a design flaw or structural failure.
The front electric window on the passenger side stopped working. i can still hear the motor click like it is trying to roll down the window but nothing happens. all other windows work correctly. *la
The air bag light was intermittent. *jb the passenger side window and the driver side lock assembly was inoperative. the dealer was not willing to do anything to help. scc
The car is not quite 3 years old and the passenger rear window fails to work. the window is not used often. the daimeler chrysler stated because of teh mileage they would not perform the repair free. my question to daimler chrysler was what does mileage have to do with a window working? either they work or not. i mentioned that there were several tb on the power windows working sporadically.*jb
The rear of the sunroof leaks when in an automatic car wash. the manufacturer was contacted and refused to assist with repair costs.*ak
Vehicle was parked and engine running, emergency brake not applied. vehicle suddenly kicked into reverse and took off, 2 young children inside. vehicle ended up in a ditch, no injuries. damage to vehicle unknown at this time.*ak the vehicle has long crank time when cold due to fuel upmp module failure. the right front window mulfunctions but the dealer could not duplicate the problem. yh

The automatic hvac system on my jeep grand cherokee has broken. the "blend doors" that control hot vs. cold air do not function properly. as a result, cold air is blown when hot air is required. this is a known issue that thousands of owners are experiencing on their wj limiteds and overland editions. this can create a dangerous situation by not blowing hot air required to defog the windshield. the issue only occurs on models equipped with the automatic hvac system. *jb
Rotors are shot and it seems i'm not the only one, 4 wheel drive will not disengage even after i shift it out of 4 wheel drive (large popping noise when it does disengage). rear wiper works sometimes and othertimes it won't. now i'm being told the transfer case is leaking and needs to be replaced (seal and shaft). at 53,000 miles these items seem ridculous. i've checked around on the internet and it seems like others have the same problems.

What a lemon! we are averaging $2000/year in repairs. power windows that stop working, water pump breaks, brake rotors need replacing before brakes wear out, leaking differential, transmission, and now we're told by dealer service department we need a new transfer case. whoever designed/built/sold this vehicle doesn't have much pride in their workmanship.

Within four years approximately 8,000-10,000 miles both front brake rotors had to be turned twice and then replaced. also, both front calipers had to be replaced. this causes vehicle to vibrate and make a grinding noise when braking. dealer and manufacturer were notified, and were unable to locate the cause. *ak the brakes pulsated while driving. the dash vent did not work, and the air only worked through the defrost.*ts the consumer stated the front end of the vehicle felt loose, the dealer discovered the ball joints needed to be replaced. the driver side rear quarter panel was loose*jb

I am an owner of a 1999 jeep grand cherokee limited v8. i have encountered many problems with this vehicle but some have already been resolved under manufacturer's warranty. a couple problems still exist though. one main problem is that my vehicle occasionally stalls out on me at red lights. it idles very slow (@400 rpm) and this is usually when the vehicle fails on me. i'll lose power to the transmission, but all the electrical items will still work, such as the radio and heater. when the engine dies out, the check engine and airbag lights will display. this problem has been brought to the attention of two dealerships but has not yet been resolved. another problem i have is that i will feel a big clunk when i am accelerating, usually when i first start to drive off. the second type of clunk i feel is when i put the vehicle in reverse to drive. i will feel a big bang like somebody had hit me from behind. this will specifically happen during the shift from reverse to drive. the third problem i encounter happens when i have my heater on. i will have the control settings set @80's and the air conditioner will operate. i do not have the setting at defrost mode. it is in regular mode and when i want the heat, the ac plus the heat will trigger. i would greatly appreciate it if these problems were looked into. thank you. *ak
Passenger front window regulator failed at 10,728 miles. driver front window regulator failed at 18,670 miles. passenger front window regulator replaced at 31,448 miles. all these instances resulted in the windows not operating for some period of time. *ak
I bought two jeep grand cherokee vehicles in april of '99. in both vehicles, the window regulators have stopped working. i can't roll-down the windows, and the problem can't be fixed immediately, because the parts are on a national back-order list, so other jeep owners must be experiencing similar problems.
Since date of purchase wipers did not function, air conditioner intermittently fails to blow air for periods up to 30-60 seconds. can occur repeatedly, with only seconds in between. overhead computer system repeatedly sounds alarms that the lift gate is open when it is closed. rear defroster comes on at its own whim, and at times will not turn off unless key is turned off. transmission was replaced. on board panic system (integrated with the keyless entry system) goes off at will, sounding the horn and flashing lights. occurs almost continually when vehicle is locked. the body control module was replaced, numerous attempts at investigating the wiring, replacing connectors and sensors have still left us with the defects. the vehicle is well known in the community because it simply cannot be silenced. we have been told that numerous other 1999 and 2000 models of grand cherokees have had similar problems, especially with respect to the transmission which has caught fire when it failed during driving (as related by a jeep dealer service department) we were lucky my husband noticed a problem before it reached the point of no return. please contact if additional information is needed, will be happy to provide whatever it necessary to begin an investigation into the plague known as the grand cherokee. *ak

The window on this vehicle has not worked for some time now and i am concerned for the safety of my family. the window does not work at all. i have had this vehicle into our local dealership three times now and they can't seem to fix it nor do they take me seriously. i would appreciate any help i can get.

Have experienced numerous quality problems including the 4 wheel drive grinding and jumping, window function problems, rear washerhose leak into rear compartment, rough transmission into reverse from park, oil gauge failure and engine clicking noise during acceleration. dealer on many occasions says they are normal for the truck to experience and not to worry. i don't believe them.
Abs light, and brake light came on, indicating a brake malfunction.*ak wiring to the right wheel speed sensor was cut by lower control arm. the vehicle has electrical and suspension problems. driver and passenger side power windows inoperative. fuel pump failed. vehicle is leaking transmission fluid due to pan gasket failure. fuel is leaking from fuel tank due to defective fuel sending unit seal. abs light, air bag lights are on and a/c blinkers are not working due to ignition switch looses. vehicle makes noise due to power steering gear assembly failure. *yh
Rear-back window leaked, reseal failed, had to remove window and reseal, took 4 days. front differential failed causing front tires to hop during tight turns, diff replaced took 3 days. when stopped at a stop light truck lurches forward almost as if hit from behind, this happens 1 sometimes 2 times at one stoplight, engine revs also increase when this happens, dealer cannot fix. gas tank is very hard to fill the pump stops before it is full and many times gas spills all over truck and pavement causing a fire hazzard, also gas cap is very hard to remove.
While driving at 40 mph, and upon pressing down on brake, vehicle shaks very hard, rotors appear to be very worn, vehicle has been taken to dealer approximately 5 times already. *ak consumer also stated there is a ticking noise from engine when starting up,steering damper and drag link assembly were loose, transmission shifts hard into reverse, right rear turn signal bulb was replaced, vehicle began to overheat, right side mirror was cracked, speaker was inoperative, the trim on the door panel was loose, exhaust system was loud, parking brake needed to be adjusted, passenger side seat belt was inoperative, passenger wiper blade was not cleaning the window, keyless entry remote was inoperative*slc
The wiper blades stiffen and lose contact with the windshield, except at the ends, at temperatures below 30 f. the blades will not even clear water from the windshield. stopping and cleaning the blades only works for a few minutes. in order to see where you are going, you must look through the bottom of the windshield. i have been driving in identical winter conditions for over 20 years with subarus and my other jeep and have only experienced this type of problem under extreme conditions. i feel that this is a serious safety problem that jeep needs to address. the dealer says that nothing can be done unless they have a tsb. *mjs
