How To Tint Windows of the Jeep Grand Cherokee?

How To Tint Windows of the Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Jeep Grand Cherokee window tinting is more than just an aesthetic improvement desire; it's a wise decision with numerous benefits. To begin with, it preserves Grand Cherokee cooler on hot days by lowering the amount of heat that gets into the cabin, resulting in a more comfortable ride.

Furthermore, window tinting protects against the glare of the sun. Every driver is familiar with the sensation of sunlight dazzling them, making it difficult to stay focused and potentially resulting in dangerous situations. Tinting helps solve this problem by decreasing the amount of sun rays penetrating while improving safety and visibility.

Aside from the practical advantages, high-quality window tinting enhances the overall look of your Jeep Grand Cherokee. Furthermore, it provides privacy by keeping curious bystanders from looking into your car.

Keep reading our article to learn more about tinting your vehicle.

Key Takeaways:

  • Window tinting for the Jeep Grand Cherokee offers benefits like maintaining a cooler interior, reducing sun glare, enhancing aesthetics, and providing privacy.
  • The cost of tinting varies depending on the vehicle type, with SUVs like the Grand Cherokee possibly costing up to $900.
  • Factors affecting the tinting cost include the type of film used, the workshop chosen, and the specific shape and type of windows in the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
  • Before tinting, it's essential to consider legal regulations, choose the right tinting film based on light transmission and manufacturer quality, and prepare appropriately for the tinting process.

How much does it cost to tint Jeep Grand Cherokee’s windows?

Of course, the most logical and correct decision will be to entrust your Jeep Grand Cherokee to professionals. They know all the tinting ropes and will do everything correctly and quickly: you just drive your car into the pit, and in a couple of hours, you will already take it away with tinted windows.

However, it`ll cost you a certain amount of money. If you want to get a good result from professionals, prepare to empty your wallet.

The tinting cost for each Jeep model will be calculated individually depending on the number of windows, location, and shape. However, the approximate cost of Jeep tinting is as follows:

4-Door Cars (Sedan, Hatchback, Wagon)

On average, the cost of tinting one window glass on such a Jeep model is $70, so for the entire set of 5 windows (2 side front, 2 side rear, 1 rear window, skipping the tinting of the windshield) you`ll have to pay about $350.

Of course, if you want, you can tint fewer windows and pay less accordingly.

Coupes

You must pay more if your coupe has steep rear or curved windows.

Such windows are more difficult to cover with tinting, which will increase the cost of services.

The average cost of tinting a two-door Jeep (with 5 windows) is approximately $450.

Trucks

It all depends on the type of your pickup: how many doors it has and how many windows, accordingly, the cost of tinting will change.

However, if you take the standard configuration of a pickup truck with 2 doors, then be ready to pay $350-400 for the work.

SUVs

Large SUVs require more attention and effort to complete the tinting process properly. They have larger windows, and prices for a full SUV tint can go up to $900.

Van / Minivan

Remember, the more windows your vehicle has, the more money you must pay to tint them. Depending on the size, window tinting of a passenger van can cost up to $1,500.

What Affects Jeep Grand Cherokee’s Windows Tinting Cost?

Remember that the tinting cost is affected by the model year and trim of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and various related factors.

Among them:

  • The film you are using. Composition, manufacturer, light transmission - all this affects the final price of tinting.
  • However, we don't advise you to save on the cost of toning film. After all, visibility and your safety on the road depend on it;
  • The workshop you`ve chosen. Everyone evaluates their work differently. For the same work, two professionals can take different amounts of money - depending on their experience and skills.
  • However, a high cost of work doesn't always guarantee quality, just as a low cost of work is not a sign that the same work will be done poorly;
  • The shape and type of windows in Jeep Grand Cherokee. How the window in your vehicle is made can affect the final cost of tinting. If the glass is divided into sections or made in a non-standard form, it may cost you more because it`ll require more effort and time.

If you tint the glass yourself, it`ll save you a lot of money. In this case, you`ll pay only for the materials and toning film. In this case, the cost can be up to $100.

However, if you decide to do everything yourself, be patient - this is a painstaking and long process that requires concentration and certain skills. It may take you a few tries to get everything right.

Is it legal to tint windows of the Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Before you start tinting, you need to ensure that you are not breaking the law of the state in which you are located. In each state, the law on tinting is prescribed differently: in some states, there is a maximum permissible percentage of tinting, in others, it is completely prohibited, and in some - tinting is allowed without restrictions.

However, it is forbidden to tint the windshield in almost every state because it greatly affects visibility. Make sure you are acting within the law.

How do you choose a window tint for the Jeep Grand Cherokee?

If you decide to tint the Jeep Grand Cherokee, you can choose which film to use. When choosing a product, pay attention to several factors:

- Light transmission capacity. The tinting film is designed to keep the sun's rays out of the Jeep's interior, and every tint film deals with this differently. Each film has its level of light transmission, where 100% is the maximum transmission (almost invisible film), and 0% is the darkest film.

Choose which film you need. Remember that the film should maintain visibility; you should also see the road. Try the film on the windows, check if you can see everything around you well. Keep in mind that you`ll be driving not only during the day in sunny weather but also at night in rain, fog, and other terrible weather conditions.

Therefore, if, with such a film, you can barely see the road during the day, this is a bad sign because poor visibility affects your reaction time to any circumstances.

Choose a level of light transmission that protects you from the sun but won't expose you to danger.

- Manufacturer and price. We advise you not to buy the cheapest film. It will spoil the visibility and have other disadvantages: it will fade in the sun, peel off, and tear easily during the gluing process.
Choose the option that will satisfy you as much as possible regarding the price-quality ratio. Additionally, consult with friends or seasoned people and read reviews.

How do you tint the Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Window tinting is a smooth process. Many things must be taken into consideration so that the result is good. However, don`t be afraid; read this article, and you`ll know how to do everything correctly.

What do you need to tint the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s windows?

Wash your Jeep’s windows

Before starting the tinting, washing your Jeep`s windows is highly recommended. Wash out the remains of dirt. Then, remove the other contaminants from the glass surface with the help of a window cleaner and a microfiber cloth. Finally, rinse and wipe your windows to make them transparent.

Remove the old toner film

The old film must be removed if the Jeep Grand Cherokee has already been tinted. Don`t glue the new one on top of the old one - this will affect the final result, and the new film may simply not stick.

To remove the old film, there are two main methods:

  • Heat the film using a heat gun. After that, just pull the tint film from several edges - and it should come off quite easily. Don`t heat one section for too long; you can damage the glass. Heat the entire surface of the glass evenly with a hair dryer;
  • The second method is to peel off the old toning film with a blade. Stores sell special tools for cleaning glass - you just need to pick up the film with a blade and clean it like a scraper. Be careful not to press too hard so as not to scratch the glass.

No matter which method you use, glue will remain on the glass. It must be got rid of. You can scrape it off with a metal scraper, but be careful not to damage the glass.

However, it is possible to do it much more easily and reliably - with the help of chemicals. Apply anti-silicone or carburetor cleaner to the glass - let it for a while, and wipe the window with a rag. These reagents will effectively dissolve the glue, and you can easily remove its remains.

Keep this in mind! Such products are very smelly and toxic! Work only in a well-ventilated area, following all safety rules.

Prepare the toning film

determine-which-side-of-toning-firm-is-protecting-layer

Take the film into your hands. It consists of a dark tint layer and a protective transparent layer, just like a sticker.

Determine which side the protective layer is on. It should be directed towards you during the operation.

Finding out where this layer is simple: just grab the edge of the film. Pick it up with the blade.

The film is separated into two parts: dark and transparent. The transparent layer should be facing you.

Prepare a soap solution

prepare-a-soap-foam-and-apply-it-to-the-window

Prepare a soapy solution. Fill the container with water and add 5-6 drops of liquid soap or shampoo to it (the larger the container, the more soap to use).

Mix everything thoroughly. Pour the resulting liquid into the sprayer - it`ll be more convenient for you in the process of working.

Cut out the necessary shape from the toning film

use-a-knife-to-cut-the-tinting-firm-to-the-shape-of-window

Before starting the procedure, remember one important thing. The tinting film is glued to the inner part of the glass, but it is tried on and fitted to the outer part.

Therefore, when you cut the film, it will be glued mirror-like.

So, let's get down to tinting Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Apply a soapy solution to the outside of the window on which you plan to glue the tint

It is critical to prepare the surface before applying tint to your Jeep Grand Cherokee’s window. Begin by spreading a soapy solution outside the window where the tint will be applied.

This step provides the correct adhesion and aids in preventing air bubbles during placement, leading to an even and desired result.

Place the toning film on the glass. Spread it with a plastic spatula or a plastic card

Remember what we mentioned earlier: First of all, make sure that the transparent layer of the tinting film is facing you! Otherwise, you`ll have to redo everything.

Use a knife to cut the tint to the shape of the glass

With the help of a blade, separate the excess pieces of toning film. Cut the film according to the shape of the glass, but do not cut it close - leave 1” on each side (top, bottom, and sides).

Adapt the shape of the resulting film to the shape of your glass

adapt-the-shape-of-tint-to-a-form-of-your-window

Pull the film 1 inch to the left edge. You need to move the film to the edge you just cut. This will ensure that you have enough tint to cover every edge of the window, including the part covered by the seal;

Cut off the right edge, then push the tint halfway back to the center. After you cut the right edge, pull the tint partway back toward the center so that there is about 1/2 inch of extra tint film on either side of the window;

Pull the film down about one inch so the bottom edge is below the window. This piece will eventually go over the door, providing a better light seal.

Push it down, and then level it again with the spatula. Do the same thing you just did with the right and left sides on the top and bottom edges;

Lower the window half an inch, then use the top of the window to cut the film to shape. Once the window is down, you can use the top edge of the window as a guide. Use the knife to cut straight to the top of the window. When finished, pull the film back to the center. You should have about 1/2" of excess film on each side of the window;

Cut off the excess film in the corners of the window - make them rounded so they no longer touch the window when closing.

Prepare the inside of the window glass

clean-the-inside-of-the-glass

Once again, clean the inside of the glass - no dirt, stains, or debris should be left on it. Apply a soapy solution to it. Do not spare water, the more, the better.

Remove the protective (transparent) layer from the toning film

remove-the-protective-layer-from-the-toning-firm

Separate the transparent layer from the blurred one. Be careful! Glue is applied under the protective layer.

As soon as you separate the transparent layer, there is a high probability that something will spoil the film if something gets caught on the sticky part. You can ruin it even if you just catch the edge of this film by yourself. Therefore, be careful and attentive.

When you remove the protective layer, immediately wet the adhesive part with a soapy solution. This will prevent dirt and dust from sticking to it.

Place the toning film on the inner surface of the glass

place-the-toning-firm-on-the-inner-surface-of-the-glass

Place the film with the adhesive side to the inner glass. Flatten it on the glass so that it fits tightly on all sides without gaps. Take your time since the film and the glass are wet with water - the glue won't harden so quickly - and you have time to even out the film on the glass. Don`t hustle, and make sure the film fits correctly from all sides.

Important tip: Leave a margin of a few millimeters from the top. If you glue the toning film under the very top, then during operation, it will cling to the rubber band on top, getting damaged and coming off. Therefore, leave a margin of several millimeters on top so that the toning film is not damaged during operation.

Flatten the toning film on the glass, get rid of excess water

use-a-plastic-spatula-to-remove-water-under-the-window-tint

When the film is evenly attached to the glass, there are no irregularities anywhere, it is fitted on all sides, and if you like how it looks, move on to the most important part: expelling the excess water from under the film.

Since the glass and the film are well-wetted, there is a lot of water between these layers. It must be removed from there. Use a plastic spatula or a card to squeeze the water out from under the film.

Move the spatula down and to the sides where possible, squeezing the water out from under the film. If this isn't done, the water will eventually dry out, and air bubbles will remain in their place. It looks bad and spoils the appearance of the Jeep Grand Cherokee as a whole.

Therefore, ensure you have expelled all the water from under the film. Look at it from different angles and shine a light on the glass - there should be neither water nor air bubbles.

Repeat these actions with all windows

To achieve the maximum and desired result, it is important to repeat all actions and steps on other windows in the Jeep Grand Cherokee just as carefully and consistently. If everything is done properly, the final result will pleasantly surprise you.
