We have classified the 175 complaints from 2008 Jeep Commander about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
The power locks make a horrible noise i i believe it is the activator
The vehicle door locks make s loud buzzing noise. i believe its the activator. this was noticed recently.
Vehicle turned completely off while stopped in traffic complete loss of power, fortunately not while moving. turned key to off position and turned back on. vehicle did restart and continue to drive. aware that chrysler has recalled numerous 2008 vehicles for recall# p57 (fobik ignition key).
My jeep commander has had 3 different mechanical diagnostics to diagnose why the vehicle shuts off continually while in motion or stopped. the ignition switch was recently replaced as a part of a recall and this has not solved the issue either. the jeep will randomly shut off, and all power steering is loss, causing a very unsafe condition until it can be put into park or neutral and turn back on. my last diagnostic showed the auto repair shopped a computer read of 'running' while the truck had turned off several times right in front of them. i have spent a large amount of money on diagnostics and no mechanic has been able to find an answer even after the ignition switch was replaced as part of an original recall. i was told by all three auto repair shops that they know there is a stalling/shut off issue but they are unable to fix it because there is no indicator of why through thorough diagnostics. they also noted that when the jeep shuts off the dash lights do not turn on as it would normally when a vehicle shuts off. when the jeep has shut off on me driving down a major road at 40 miles per hour my only indicator that my vehicle has shut off is that my steering wheel locks up as the jeep begins to slow down. the new ignition switch has not remedied the shut off issue and no mechanical shop has been able to diagnose and other reason why. essentially my jeep commander is very unsafe with no solution able to found. i researched further and found that there was a front control module recall on some 2008 jeep commanders issued. i believe my jeep commander's vin may need to be added to this recall for this make and model because the ignition switch recall has not fixed the issue and no mechanical diagnostic has been able to answer why. everything else is completely sound with the jeep commander except this issue of shutting off while on, in motion or parked.
Abs brake slip control lights stay on
Jeep will not start. it displays transmission over temp for a split second as you turn on the key. the jeep sat overnight in the driveway before trying to start it the next morning, and it did not start.
I bought my vehicle at a nissan dealership and didn't know that it leaked into the cabin on the driver's side foot well because of the drain tubes for the sunroof. i took it in they said it was fixed but the very next time it rained it was soaked again and by then i found out what is really going on with the vehicle. it's not that i don't want to be a good consumer and not make any waves, but i don't want to keep paying for a leaking vehicle, and don't know what to do. what happens if i go to step out of the vehicle and slip and fall, i have feet ankle problems as it is and it's detrimental to my health should that happen.
Tamara recall the jeep will cut off randomly while driving down the road. it will also make attempts to cut off while driving at 60 mph and below. the esp light and traction control light will come on. once able to get the jeep stopped with out getting in an accident it will restart and all lights will go off. this has happened now 3 times with in 4 days with it cutting completely off and 5 times trying to while driving. the 1st time it was on a highway going about 50 miles and hour. the 2nd time i was getting off the interstate while going around a curve going about 30 miles an hr. the 3rd time i was doing 35 miles an hr on a busy street. the times that it has attempted to shut off but didn't i was going between 45 and 60 miles an hr. this is unsafe for anyone to be driving and have happen. it can cause me to have accident and or to cause a accident. this can cause serious harm and loss of life. i am not sure if it is the ignition switch or an issue with the motor or wiring. something is wrong. i see on other forums that i am not the only one having this issue. i have contacted the dealership that i have recently purchased this jeep from i am scared to drive it. i am in fear for myself and kids and others.
Tranfercase shifted into nuetral while driving down the highway then back to drive jerking the gears and gears are now popping while accelerating.
Leaking water through side driver handle also carpets soaked when rains. has been happening through the years. safety issue now i believe is affecting my electical in door panel. passenger door window will not work from drivers side.now leaking from light fixture. will it affect any other electrical in the future? when jeep was new door hinge was replaced rusted out. need it done again. this is not normal maintenance to replace hinges. the door sounds like its going to crack in half when opening and closing. wouldnt be suprised if it fell off. its the same side as the leaks. im putting todays date because its all the time. also ive read there is a class action suit for the sunroof. but not vehicles before 2009? all recalls and suits match my situations but my vin # doesnt come up?? not right at all. there are so many flaws in this jeep but what im complaining about is serious.

For some reason off and on since we have owned the jeep bought it new we have had occurrences when the vehicle wouldn't start. just in 2016 we had to replace the solenoid and the starter. now in 2017 having to do it again. the problem is when the solenoid gets to hot the truck doesn't want to start after running for a while. and also having issues with the esp bas lights coming on which has to be electrical. i was told to contact you since many other chrysler owners and jeep owners have had the same issues. thank you
2008 jeep commander safety issue where it completely looses all electrical and motor systems while driving or idling. it stalls out only at low rpm or when shifting from first to second gear. i lost all systems including steering, brakes, and hazard lights. this happened to me several times in the past week nearly causing an accident. dealership and private auto mechanic could not diagnose and it leaves no system events. i contacted chrysler to see if this was related to an earlier model commander recall with the exact same problem and they grew angry with me and hung up.
My jeep liberty limited manufactured oct 23 2007 reference to 14v567000 jeep vehicles april 3 2007 to may 12 2008 ignition key (fobik) (exactly what is happening to my car) the ignition key (fobik) may not return to the "on" position after being rotated to the "start" position, instead sticking between the two positions. potentially, while the vehicle is being driven, the ignition may inadvertently move through the "run" position to the "accessory" or "off" ignition position, turning off the engine. this has been happening off and on for more then 3 months now. consequence summary: the ignition stays between "start" and "on" positions causes loss of certain electrical functions. engines stops, stater continues running, all the dash lights go on and etc. talking with chrysler today have yet to add jeep 2008 limited liberty to their recall list. i'm would like to have my car added to list if the government needs to this serious problems. the discussing part it is my fault if any serious accidents happens and i did not have chrysler do required repairs with charging me for it. my problem with this any repair record of could be lost. ( this seems to be the trend with serious problems )
After receiving n23 recall and other software updates (p73) the 4 wheel drives system disables at random. this has to be repaired at dealer. error code points to shift actuator, but in reality it is software. if errors are cleared parts function fine. loss of 4 wheel drive can be a life threatening. since most of the time 4 wheel drive is needed is when not near help. my vehicle has been having this issue ongoing since 2013. chrysler has been contacted since 2014 with starcases. issue has yet to be resolved. latest break down left me stranded while on vacation and having to pay for repairs. the 4 wheel drive shifting fails randomly, it can be while driving or stationary. it can happen when trying to engage 4 wheel drive or just driving down street and service 4wd system warning comes on. error can be corrected sometimes by pulling fuse for final drive control module other times requires dealer to reapply software flash. some dealers refuse to try this and just proceed to charge to replace shift actuator motor. started in 2013-14, ongoing most recent failure 1/9/2017 reference: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f777/n23-recall-issue-no-4-low-1561787/ http://www.jeepgarage.org/f5/n23-recall-finally-solved-88314.html https://www.facebook.com/jeep/posts/10151875332502449 http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f777/n23-recall-issue-no-4-low-survey-1873090/ *tr

My 2008 jeep commander sport 4x4 has been running fine. i parked the jeep, but it in park and turned it off. when i come back 3 hours later my car does not start. i was able to unlock my car by using the remote, and the lights turned on when i opened the door. i put the key in turned it and the car would not make a single noise, and "damaged key" prompts on the dash and quickly disappears. i needed to move my car so i was able to get a jump bc of the position the car was in. i put my foot on the break and tried to put it in neutral and it would not let me. my friend was able to position his truck to jump start mine. again, nothing worked.

After driving for about 10 minutes i shut vehicle off came out to start 2 minutes later vehicle would not start. after waiting for road service about half hour vehicle started without any assistance. all lights, gauges and windows worked as they should. this happened several more times after that.
When i put my vehicle into park it will not let me turn it all the way off an release my key. it keeps it in the acc position or the battery on position. but the engine does turn off. i then have to wait for a click then i can release my key. sometimes i have to restart the vehicle and move the shifter around a few times then turn the vehicle back off to get it to click to release my key. the dealer said it's an electronic problem. my starter cylinoid is going out. and i have to have a whole new part and it comes with new keys. it's going to cost $650 to fix it.
On 1 may 2015 i drove my 2008 jeep commander on errands, making several stops. returning to the vehicle after my last errand, it refused to start when the ignition key was properly inserted and turned. after several attempts and noticing that the dashboard indicator lights, interior lights, headlights and electric windows all functioned properly, i concluded there was a starter or alternator problem. i had the tow truck operator attempt to jump the vehicle just in case it was the battery, which it was not, and was subsequently towed 30 miles home at the cost of $175. the next morning, i wondered if something could be amiss with the electronic key fob. i tried the spare key and the car started immediately. i then tried my original key again and the car also started. we did receive a ignition switch recall notice from chrysler in the fall of 2014 that indicated we would be notified when parts became available, so i called their 1-800 number for an update. chrysler cannot provide any specific time frame for when the replacement parts will be available. the only thing they will do is add your email to the "special notification list" so that you will receive an email when the parts are available rather than waiting for a physical letter to arrive via usps. i now have to drive this vehicle knowing that it could shut down while i am driving and cause an accident - presumably with disabled air bags due to the ignition being "off" - or strand me by not starting. as a biologist, i do research in some pretty inaccessible places, so this is a huge safety issue for me. chrysler should be compelled to engineer a fix and make it available now! *tr

I was notified of the manufacturer recall late 2014, i took it to the local dealership at that time and was advised that they did not have the parts in and that they would be in at some point this year. i asked what the actual risk was they explained the biggest risk was associated with the engine shutting off while driving and was advised to remove my keys off of my key fobs. on april 9, 2015, i parked my car turned the ignition off and then realize that there was a window down. at that point i attempted to restart the car to roll up the window and there was no power. after having the car towed to a local shop and being told they couldn't bring up anything on the computer because the electrical system was shut down, the vehicle was transported to local dealership where they identified that the win module or the wireless ignition node was defective. now, i have been without a vehicle since that time and they are reporting that the replacement parts will be expected around may 14 of this year however ever since april 16, i have been getting different dates every single time i talk to the dealership. i believe chrysler has exceeded a fair amount of time to replace this since they knew about it in the summer of 2014 and they have failed to provide a quality replacement part for their product. i have been in contact with both the local dealership and the 1-800 number for chrysler(888) 327-4236 and they continue to pass me around and inform me that i'm welcome to rent-a-car and have been offered the dealerships discount. further, they report that they are not sure when the replacement parts will be available but i will be notified as soon as they are. *tr
