We have classified the 80 complaints from 2019 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
My jeep has 8300 miles on it and i was driving 45 mph and a warning came on the info screen as well as a ding sound, shifter service? i looked and all the lights were lit on the shifter (dnr =-) i drove it to the dealer and they had me turn it off and then back on and it went away and setup appointment for the next morning to do a update? well that was done and they said it still needed replaced(shifter) waiting on parts, was told it was safe to drive. 3 times now once while backing it did it again, the other 2 times i was driving on level pavement. i am worried about the fact this is a switch controlled not a shifter with mech device that changes gears. is it safe to drive??
My 2019 jeep cherokee loses power and will not accelerate. the first time it happened there was only 2400 miles on it. it slowed by itself and when the gas was pressed it just kept slowing and the rpms revved to 5000 and it would not go anywhere. had to put in park and then back in drive and it only crept at 15mph until i got home. towed it to dealer and could not duplicate. ran fine for awhile. now there is 3300 miles and it is doing it again. this time it stalled and a light said could not shift. it was in the automatic mode not manual shift. lost brakes and steering and drifted into my yard. came to a stop close to my house. waited a few hours and it ran fine. a day later i was making a left turn and it stopped in the next lane. i hit the gas and nothing then it took off like a rabbit jumping and pulsing. i almost got hit by a dually with a cow trailer. got home and parked it. called dealer and they stated to have it towed and would look at it in a few days. i called jeep to have it towed and they refused saying that i could not go to the dealer where i bought it but had to go to the one a few miles from my house. i ended up using my personal car insurance to have it towed. the difference in miles was 6. why would they not tow it another 6 miles? it should be customer preference within reason. no duplication at dealer. went to work and it ran fine. it only seems to do it in the rain or if it is wet. however today it was raining and it ran fine. it is frustrating since the dealer can not duplicate. why did i buy a car that i am scared of driving? a new car should be safe and reliable. i cannot travel to my doctor who is 5 hours away. i am afraid to go around the corner. i never know if i am going to stall or lose power. it is dangerous and uncalled for. something needs to be done. i will not own another jeep product. $34000 for a crap car.
Brand new jeep cherokee latitude plus 4x4 v6 9 speed,3,100 miles. the cherokee has a grinding noise going over speed bumps in the back of the car. sounds like gears aren't meshing properly. i have to turn off the traction control every time i go over a speed bump to correct the issue. rpms get super high before the jeep decides to change gears and kick up. the other issue is the car lurches forward when i brake coming to a stop. not always but enough to make me weary in parking lots. mostly drive in the city.
This reports documents a second instance of power failure. on friday, jan 4 faii was driving on interstate hwy 287. the dashboard went dark at first and then started flickering. car then stalled while driving. the gas pedal no longer worked. the power steering failed. i coasted to the shoulder. when in park the dashboard came back on with battery, engine light, and p with circle and exclamation mark. a message came on display to service transmission. i had to be towed to the car dealership. at the dealership i was told the repair work wouldn't start until monday. on monday afternoon, i was told the battery connection was poor and they ordered a part. i also received a recall email that states the transmission needs to be fixed. i feel this vehicle is life threatening at this point. many cherokees have received 5 recalls and i only have one. please look into the cherokee limited 4 x 4.
This is the third time we have had an issue with my wife's jeep. 2019 jeep cherokee limited. first issue was just over a thousand miles, spent almost a month in the garage. going down the interstate at high speeds the car shuts down and you lose all power steering, the brake pedal gets hard, etc. you lose all lights in the dash, all power going up hills, have to stop completely and restart in order to go anywhere. serious safety issue as reported to jeep multiple times now and they have said is fixed. we have requested they swap out our vehicle with another new jeep and they refused. this is a serious serious safety issue where the ability to safely drive the car abruptly stops while you are driving. power steering completely shuts down as does the car transmission making it so you can go nowhere. we have been almost wiped out by a semi truck on the interstate, this is after their third attempt at fixing the vehicle and saying it is fixed. and safe. we have requested time after time for them to give us a new jeep and they refused because they don't want to dish out the money or whatever the case is. this vehicle can lose power steering and the transmission can go into neutral at any time while driving down the road causing you to be left with a very unsafe vehicle at highway speeds and potentially unable to steer the vehicle. it is a miracle that my wife who was 40 weeks pregnant at the time was able to put all her muscle into the car and steer it away from going over a cliff the first time when it died. the second time we were on the interstate on the way to a doctor's appointment. third time was today on the interstate again.
Car stalled and lights on dashboard flashed when stopped at intersection
While driving vehicle showed on screen that shifting was not allowed causing the car to stall. having to stop in the middle of the road to shift it to parking and put it back on drive. also battery light came up while driving casusing the engine to stall and not being able to proceed in drive slowing the car down. had to turn off the vehicle again on the middle of the road to be able to restart the vehicle.
While driving 80mph on the highway, my 2019 jeep cherokee went into complete failure mode. the power in the vehicle failed, i was no longer able to accelerate. luckily i was able to dodge my way through traffic and get off the highway and into safety. after 48 hours at the dealership, still no official root cause of why the power failed.
Check engine light came on. car started stalling after shifting gears, as if it was in neutral instead of drive and/or reverse. wasn't reaching speeds easily. rpms at 60 mph was 3.5 an i couldn't get over 62.
When coming to a stop or already stopped (like at a traffic light) while in drive, when vehicle will randomly "lurch". the engine will very quickly rev and attempt to overpower the brakes. this appears to happen more often if auto start/stop is disabled. there is also clunking that has been progressively getting worse coming from transmission area. the mileage of the vehicle is only at 1,052 miles and is currently at the dealership.
While i am in movement driving my vehicle. without any warning lights popping up in my dashboard. my vehicle suddenly stops. it has happened to me while i was driving in the highway and a semi truck was driving behind me. i hit my brakes fast enough so that the semi truck could react in time, but otherwise i could it have gotten impacted from the back which i am sure. it would it have cause more than just and accident. the date this happened i noticed the car kind of slowed down its velocity fast and dramatically when it stop. it was still running, no smoke or anything coming out of the hood. i did noticed that the heater felt extremely hot more than normal which it also made me panic a bit. she shift gear i wasn't able yo move it at all. they had advised me at the dealership one of the mechanics that sometimes, if this happened; to turn the car off for 10 mins and then turn it back on. i did that, that night and when the car turn back of the stability ligh warning came on, the brakes light came on, the engine ligh came on, the emergency parking light came on, but this this i was was able to move the shift stick but i could only drive forward. i tried to reverse and go back but it wasn't letting me. my sensors were beeping as if i was near or close to hitting something. when my car was the only one in the highway. one of the things that i noticed while seating in my car. this normally happens to my suv when it's very cold outside. we are talking -4 degrees, but i am surprised because this is a 2019 vehicle that i have and i have only had it for 5 months. i have taken it in for service 4 tmes and they supposedly fix the issue but now it has happened again and i don't feel safe in that vehicle. a vehicle that stops out of nowhere, definitely not safe. i am not only putting myself in danger, but i feel like i am putting everyone around me driving in danger.
Was at a 4 way stop sign getting ready to pull off when vehicle stop working. tried to recrank the vehicle but it took 5 minutes to start again. called dealership and took it to the service department. about a week and a half later vehicle started having issues again. vehicle started to stall and have a very slow take off. take off was so slow until i had to sit 15 minutes before take off.
Transmission has serious delay in downshifting when you step on the gas peddle when you need to speed up for any reason especially to pass another vehicle. this is all the time weather in city or highway. it seems the transmission can't make its mind up on what to do and what gear to downshift to.
My car continues to stall intermittently. i received my car back from the service department on 31-oct-2019. later that day, on my way home from work, my car stalled going approximately 25 miles per hour. the vehicle lost all power and came to a stop on the 405 freeway. i was in stop and go traffic, which may have saved my life since other vehicles were driving slow and at times stopped. this allowed me some time while i attempted to restart the vehicle. it re-started and i made it home.
When turning around the vehicle makes a weird noise and the brakes are not stable while trying to brake it doesn't respond immediately pulling forward the car.
While stopping at a stop sign, the d on the gear shift started flashing. i lost the ability to accelerate and the car started rolling backwards. i had to stop, turn the car off and restart it. upon taking it to the dealership they said it didn't throw any codes and to bring it back it if happens again.
Brakes were stuck on and also the transmission was not shifting properly. car would only go around 30 mph had to park the vehicle and get it towed even though this is brand new!
At highway speeds with cruise control set, the cars transmission and engine rpm would increase to as much as 5500 rpm during deceleration. speed would fluctuate as much as 12 mph (increase or decrease from set cruise speed). dealership has had vehicle in their possession for two months and still has two open recalls that have been unresolved. dealership has failed to fix or replace vehicle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 jeep cherokee. while driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle experienced a total loss of acceleration and transmission power. the contact stated that the vehicle felt as if it were stuck in neutral gear. the vehicle was towed to teterboro chrysler jeep dodge ram (469 us-46, little ferry, nj 07643 (201), 440-0222), but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the abs module failed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred twice. the contact stated that the brakes seized and there was a total loss of transmission and acceleration power. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where a case manager was assigned. the manager had not called the contact back and the contact's request was escalated to a supervisor. the contact requested the vehicle be returned and exchanged. the manufacturer provided a case number and stated that the analytical department would call the contact within 24 hours. the failure mileage was 350. *tt consumer stated incident happened 3 times. updated 11/29/18*jb
I leaned my 2019 jeep cherokee back in september 2018. a week after leasing it i was slowing down to come to a stop sign and it beeped at me and all the power shut off in the jeep. i tried to hit the start button nothing. i put it in park after fighting with it to go into park and tried the start button again. nothing. so i waited 2 minutes and tried again it turned back on and was fine for the rest of the drive. january 24 2019 i was pulling out of the parking garage at work and after 4 minutes of it being on it shut off mid driving. same thing happened it beeped and all power shut off. i put it in park and hit the start button. nothing. waiting 2 minutes tried again turned on made it all the way home. also when i turn either way it beeps as of a door is open. no door is open check repeatedly. when i go over a speed bump it sounds like something is grinding in the back end i have to come to a complete stop and start again after the bump or the jeep will not move. the radio will randomly make a very loud static noise that is ear piercing for a second the it will be fine or it will restart the radio it's different everytime it happens.
The vehicle keeps stalling without warning recal#ua9/nhtsa 18v-739 the dealer had the car to fix the recall. the car still does the same thing as it did before recal. it has been in 6-8 times for this problem. dealer installed a data recorder and it did not record an event twice. it happens on the hiway, the street and in front of the house when going into driveway;
Automatic transmission exhibits odd behavior from the day of delivery of this new car, jeep service says nothing is wrong; clunking noise when lightly tapping the accelerator, rough shifting, when letting foot of the accelerator vehicle doesn't slow down and takes long time before it does, it feels like it is coasting instead of slowing when it finally downshifts it speeds up on its own and then slowly decelerates.
Vehicle is shutting off while driving, causing loss of steering and everything else in the vehicle. this has happened twice. once at 30mph, and at 50 mph. luckily i did not wreck or hit someone. this vehicle isn't safe to drive. someone is going to be killed if this is not fixed. this seems to be related to a recent recall by fca affecting other 2019 jeep cherokee models. that states: the power train control module may fail and the customer will experience a no start, a start and immediate stall condition, or engine stall while driving.
I ready took my car 3 times to chrysler dealer, the issue is while i was driving the car shut off 5 times on the last 3 weeks, the dealer told me they cannot duplicate the fault so i need to keep driving like that, but what about if this happens on the freeway i will crash. i feel unsafe and the dealer don't want to do anything because they cannot duplicate the fault and is not a check engine light, and i ask what about if something happens to me or my family and they respond with chrysler will cover everything.
Takara recall just bought this vehicle a month ago and it's has been turning off on few times while driving on the highway with my family. it's not awhile i'm at the stop sign or light, it's while i'm actually driving. i had to press the button again in order to turn back on
Driving up a hill to a stop sign and once i reached the top of the hill at the stop sign the vehicle shut down. the battery light came on the dashboard. no other lights. was able to put in park and restart the vehicle. vehicle ran rough right after this happened. i was only a couple blocks from my home so pulled into my garage and shut the vehicle off. let it sit a couple minutes. restarted it and drove it a few blocks. everything seemed ok. called dealer and reported the issue. setup a time to have it looked at when they were going to replace the transmission valve body due to shifting issues they diagnosed on a prior appointment. when i received the vehicle back after they looked at it and replaced the transmission valve body, they indicated they could not find anything wrong. this is very dangerous and upsetting because i see there was recall for this exact same issue of stalling out. however, my vehicle is not part of the recall because it does not fall within the production start and ending date timeframe? seems to me jeep is just trying to save money and getting away with not repair additional vehicles that are unsafe. this is just wrong.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle stalled and an unknown electronic symbol illuminated. the vehicle was taken to crowley chrysler jeep dodge ram (860-261-3000, located at 1461 farmington ave, bristol, ct 06010) where the software was upgraded, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken back to the same dealer and an unknown failure code was located. the dealer also diagnosed and replaced the engine. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file for an arbitration. the contact filed for an arbitration. the failure recurred and the same dealer installed a flight controller to track the failures. the contact later received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 18v739000 (power train). the vehicle was repaired per the recall and the contact stated that the vehicle "appeared to be repaired"; however, she wanted the vehicle replaced. the failure mileage was unknown.
Vehicle will not fully engage into "drive". vehicle will jerk and lunge for about 5 seconds before it is fully engaged into "drive". happens most often on cold start ups after the vehicle has sat for at least 2 hours.
Within a 2 weeks after i bought the jeep, while driving my brand new jeep cherokee trail-rated, going over speed bumps at a very low speed 3-5 miles ph, i heard a grinding noise coming from the transmission. took the jeep back to the dealer and was advised that the manufacturer, chrysler, had installed a brand new type of transmission, they found no problems at this time. again within 2 days, i had to bring the jeep back to the dealer and this time i was advised that the technician validated my concerns and performed a transmission quick learn 5060 wc90. part # count: claim type w. in order words my complaint was valid. another week later, again brought my jeep to the dealer and two days later i received a phone call from the dealer telling me that they couldn't find the noise and for me to come to the dealership and drive my jeep with the manager in order to reproduce the noise. i am not making up the noise but now after the validated the fact that there was a manufacturer problem due to the fact that it is a new transmission, now they can't find the noise, there is most definitely a serious problem and there are no recalls at this time for this problem. i anybody has a similar issues, please let everybody know!!!!!!
The transmission takes far too long to downshift when called upon for a quick drop in gears. when driving at highway speeds or even normal city speeds, when you need to change lanes for a quick pass of another vehicle and push the accelerator to the floor, the vehicle is left waiting for 2 to 3 seconds for a downshift with only coasting power, no acceleration. this lag time for a downshift & application of power clearly needs to be addressed because it is hardly safe or reasonable.
A week after buying the vehicle i started to feel it shift rough and hard. can literally hear it shift like metal on metal. got progressively worse and took it to the dealer. was told need a new transmission valve body. this is very disheartening. a brand new 2019 vehicle. i did research on this car before i bought it. it seems the 2014 and 2015 models were the ones with the transmission problems. there was not much complaint-wise after those years, so i thought i would give it a shot as the vehicle was reasonably priced and had everything i wanted. well, it seems this 2019 is experiencing the exact same issues as the 2014 and 2015 models. they ordered the transmission valve body and had it installed. it somewhat helped with higher gears but it struggles finding lower gears still and there is severe hesitation when slowing down and then accelerating. very hard to clear intersections when making left turns and it slammed into first gear very hard one time slowing down and then pressing the accelerator. very dangerous to drive. you can also hear it shift loudly when it down shifts to first gear, again like metal on metal as i stated above.
