Tl* the contact owns a 2017 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the gear shifter warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. the contact pulled over and attempted to restart vehicle. several warning lights on the instrument panel became illuminated. the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. the contact stated that the it seemed as if the vehicle was out of fuel even though the fuel tank was full. the vehicle was towed to griffin motors company 11031 perry hwy, meadville, pa 16335 (814) 336-2161, where a diagnostic test was still pending. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted nor notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 21,000. the vin was not available.
On january 18 2020 i was driving and after only a mile from home, coming to an intersection yielding to go left, my car completely without warning stalled in the middle of an intersection. i tried to re-start and took about 10 minuets get it to restart. i was driving the mile home when then i got a 'oil pressure low light'. i did an oil change that afternoon to find my car only had 2 quarts of oil remaining. my car is burning oil. i do regular oil changes. there are no leaks. i had no warning from my car that my oil was low. although the feature to turn off my car worked properly in the event oil is low, my car is burning a large amount of oil and not giving me a low oil warning before turning off my car. this could have been much worse and happened on the highway which i generally travel. these model cars need to be fixed from burning oil and drivers alerted to when their oil starts to become low, not just shut off in the middle of the road.
I bought this vehicle brand new. since about 30k i have been complaining that it is randomly shutting off without warning, regardless of speed. no engine power, and no power steering. i have been told this is a fail safe due to low oil. i have followed the fca guidelines and dealers for oil changes and cant really make between changes. i have done multiple oil consumption tests between two dealers bc i am told it doesnt burn enough for fca standards to replace the engine. i have called after it died out to ask for a tow in and have been denied and told it just means its time for an oil change. i have to have an ignition coil replaced on two separate incidents, reprogramming of the shifter pcm, and replaced the pcm. it wasnt till my latest incident that i recorded it and posted the video to twitter that an fca rep reached out to me to 'help'. i was told i still need to do oil testing bc i have to fail 3 in a row for further testing regardless of a history of the problem continuing and not getting better. 1st test it was only half a quart. didnt even make it to the 2nd before the car shook violently, lost power, wouldn't accelerate and i had to be towed in. 1st was told the multiair actuator went out and fca agreed to pay for it, as im at 73k. then i hear nothing from anyone for 8 days till i call the dealer and im told they are waiting on spark plugs. 20mins later the fca rep calls and says the engine needs to be replaced. they found, metal shavings inside, scorching, a piece of the exhaust valve missing and lost inside the engine. however fca will only pay for 1500 leaving the rest of the bill to me for something thats not my fault and an issue they continue to ignore. had they investigated the problem earlier regardless of their oil burning rules they would have found the valve was cracked. fca says they are not saying its my fault but are hiding behind the warranty.*dt*jb
Service shifter the car turn off on major highway
Service engine light is coming on. we just bought this on 12/28/2019 with 46198 miles. sifter issues. light came on as driving down the highway at normal speed.
Transmission will not upshift and engine check light on. vehicle has 13,000 miles. second time this has happened. first time no resolution at 6500 miles. problems related to wiring harness this time according to dealer, apparent common problem but no recalls..
Transmission shifts up to 7th gear and than down to6th gear some times engine shuts off than restart while driving highway traffic. transmission shifts but engine red lines before you go in gear.
I left work today at 4pm made a right hand turn onto a bridge and i noticed i couldn't accelerate and two engine lights came on the dash and my car completely turned off on me and i broke down. i was stuck on a high trafficking area on a bridge when this happened. i've had my jeep for 2 years and never once had any issues and never once felt like it wasn't a safe vehicle. i don't feel safe to drive my jeep now and want it checked out completely before this happens again to me.
I had just pulled out of my driveway in the morning and heading down the neighboorhood road. about a half a mile into my drive, the car failed to accelerate. the car began to coast, i had lost engine power. i tried to turn the wheel and it was unresponsive. i looked down at the dash and it was out. i was barely able to limp the car to the curb. after approximately ten minutes i was finally able to turn it over and start the engine. my engine is consuming an excessive amount of oil between oil changes.
There is a shifter error that comes up on dashboard and all lights come up on the shifter stick while driving the car. this happened to me twice over one night while i driving and i am concerned with the safety of my vehicle. see links below. https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2017/jeep/cherokee/suv/4wd https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t68742_ds990296 https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t68742_ds947921 https://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f309/service-shifter-mil-15-diesel-3768705/
This vehicles had a recall on something that has to do with the transmission- the dealership claims to have corrected the issue. however, the vehicle in question is still having slipping issues. also just recently i noticed when starting my vehicle with the fob it stays on 30 secs and cuts right back off. the tire feature isn't always correct either it says i need air when i don't. i'd like to know how many other consumers have had the problem with the remote start feature..
On two occasions this week the jeep cherokee unexpectedly shut off while driving. it was startling and loss of power steering and braking left it difficult to pull over. upon inquiry from a local jeep dealer, they indicated it is not uncommon for this to happen if the oil is low. the oil was in fact 3/4 quart low and was remedied however there should be a light that comes on not a sudden and unexpected shut down. there was no indication on the dash regarding low oil. this is dangerous and could potentially be deadly.
11/18/2019,when i was going to park at my daughter 's daycare on w 87th st, the engine just stopped working and the car could not move any more.the screen showed"shift to park or neutral press brake+select gear".we tried to do as the screen told but still the car could not move. i had to retart the car, then we can move again. 11/21/2019,the same issue happened again when i just started the car and going to enter in the remington blvd.
I was accelerating from a stopped position at a stop sign and the car shut of. i maneuvered over as much as i could. would not restart. it was towed to the dealership where it was discovered it had no oil. it had an oil change with in the last month. in the two years i have owned it, it has had to be towed for this 1-2 other times as it runs out of oil and shuts down before the recommended oil change date or mileage. i was never informed to monitor the oil until recently. after the first time this happened i was told to get the oil changed at 4000 miles instead of 5000 and i have been doing that it or adding oil if i cannot get it right in. it also has no warning that it is low on oil.
Service shifter light cam on feb 2019 and was replaced. 6 months later the light came on again and was replaced for a 2nd time. october 2019 my car was sputtering at an idle and not shifting correctly and an engine coil was replaced. nov 2019 when going from reverse to drive there would be a 15-20 second lag before it would jump into gear and lung forward. i also start experiencing delays when attempting to accelerate it would lag for about 10 second before jerking into gear and lung forward at a higher speed. took it back to the dealership and code p0304 misfire cylinder 4. dealership replaced (under power train warranty) boot kit - ignition coil, lubricant - dielectric, transmission mount, replaced valve body and trans range sensor. car was purchased in december of 2017 with 12 miles on it, current mileage 55,989 with regular maintenance done on vehicle.
When starting or driving the car, the service shifter among many other warnings come on and the car does not function normally after that. it is very sluggish and jerks while accelerating. this has happened while stationary and while in motion. multiple trips to dealerships and two years later the problem is still happening. i know of many people that are having this issue and the manufactures are doing nothing about it. my family and i do not feel safe in this jeep.
At 15,000 miles my service shifter light would turn on. i have to pull over, put the vehicle in park and shut off the vehicle. this happens at least once a month. when i called the dealership they said there was nothing they could do about it if the light wasn't actively on.
Transmission shifts when it wants, get stuck in gears and shifts hard. has almost caused me multiple accidents. have taken it to jeep multiple times- they have zero answers for me. my car isn't running any error codes so they will not address any issues.
My car has the 2.4 l engine. it has been burning off a lot of oil. the dealer changed the oil at 12,200 miles on april 2, 2019. we checked the oil level last week and it was low by 2 quarts. we took it back to dealer and the changed oil and started a oil consumption test. we are both retired and drive only about 6,000 miles per year. we purchased the jeep new in march 2017 with 11 miles at 5500 miles in november 2017 we also had a "oil leak" symptoms. google this problem on the internet reveals many customers of this 2.4l jeep and chrysler engine have problems of oil " blowing out" . the dealer said no "low oil " light will warn you of low oil problem. they said the car will stop running while driving. i find this result to be unsafe and unacceptable. what is the nhtsa doing about this common problem?
For the past 12 months while the vehicle is in motion during different times of the driving cycle (drive, park, idle) a "service shifter" light appears on the dash. at this time no other light appears (check engine, low oil, electrical issue.) this occurs when the car has just been started, driving, or parked. it does not matter the temperature of the car. this has been noted by photos of the service light also with the mileage of the car. the issue sometimes results in the car turning itself off while it is in drive. when this occurs the car must sit for a period of time from 1 minute to 30 minutes then the car will turn back on without issue. the light appears without any known cause or contributing factor. the car has been towed to the dealership which it was purchased. the car has a service contract. when the vehicle is in the shop at the dealership the light is not on. the dealership claims that this issue cannot be diagnosed unless the light is on. the vehicle has been towed to the dealership for repair and maintenance on two occasions as it would not start for an extended period of time. this issue has not been resolved. this issue does not involve any recalled parts or products. the dealership denies any knowledge of this happening to other vehicles. through a simple online search i found that there are many other drivers and vehicles with this exact issue. this poses a safety threat as the car turns itself off while it is in drive. it is my fear that this may occur while driving on a highway. this has only occurred to this point on a residential street. the vehicle is currently at the dealership pending repairs, but they noted as it is an intermittent issue it is unlikely that they will be able to diagnose or repair.
I brought a 2016 jeep cherokee in july 2017. i was having issues with the car the first month i brought it. vehicle loses power while driving, engine shuts down, steering locks and the dash lights up with a message that says put vehicle and "park" and then select desired gear.this issues has happened twice once i was at an intersection and the second time i was on the freeway. this has happened 3 times in the last month. this is dangerous and scary as this could have caused a collision. i keep my vehicle up to date on maintenance/service. it doesn't make sense that i am paying a car payment, have less than 62,000 miles on a less than 3 year old vehicle, and having these kind of safety concerns. . today, my car died with no warning on a busy road, gives me approximately 10 seconds to pull to safety before there is no speed/ability to maneuver the vehicle. it is ridiculous that the risk is so high, and the number of complaints listed on line show a serious issue with this among hundreds of vehicles by jeep and nothing. the dealerships/service continue to make comments like "we were unable to replicate the issue". to be specific: driving at about 25 miles per hour, straight following a right turn. . . . lost power. lights went on the dash, message above appeared. it took two tries to restart to get me out of the middle of the road.i had the car towed to the dealer and they had no explanation for me both times this happened. as soon as they would connect it to diagnose they said the codes would clear and the car was working. its a waste of money because im going to get the same answer. i just dont know what to do now. this car has but my children and my life in danger. chrystler and jeep will not acknowledge the fact they have a major issue with their jeeps engine. i guess jeep will resolved this issue when someone get in an accident or die.
While in motion the service shifter light came on and gear shift lights are all red,p,r,n,d - i pulled over shut of car and turned back on and message and lights went away
Vehicle completely shut down while driving. had driven about 1/2 mile on a county road, made a left turn and everything shut down. no steering, braking. very scary!!! was able to restart vehicle after about 10 minutes and immediately drove home. have not driven it since.
'check shifter' light came on and all lights on my shifter lit up as well. car shifts very hard as well !
Car starts to stall after 1000 miles driven in between oil changes. this started at 30000 miles. it stalls in the middle of driving. it stalks at stop signs. this my 16 year old daughters first car. it is not safe.
I bought the vehicle brand new form the dealer (farrish chrysler jeep dodge ram at 9610 fairfax blvd. va 22031 and it always have issues and stops running, and i have to drop it off to their shop and it takes few days to diagnose the problem which cause me some problems to struggle with my work schedule and my son school and other family schedules. so i need to solve this problem and make sure the vehicle is safe to drive as i am a single mom and i need to not struggle much with a new vehicle.
Service shifter message appeared on screen, all lights on pnrd turned red, could not see what gear vehicle was in. had to turn car off to get message to leave.has happened numerous times now.. vehicle was in motion, on both city street and highway.
My vehicle is 2 years old, it has just popped up with a "service shifter" message. it is not able to be rebooted. also, when the computer is tested nothing pops up to fix. very frustrating and seems like there is a lot of similar cases.
Low oil indicator never came on.the vehicle randomly shuts down, when the oil is to low without any indication light coming on that the oil is low. this has been a common problem to the point where the dealers know exactly what the issue is. my vehicle shut down without warning in the middle of the road when turning right and indicated that i needed to put it in park and restart it. i checked the oil and it was almost dry! i added oil and will be taking it into the dealership! this jeep only has 25k miles on it
I was attempting to merge onto the interstate when my jeep shut off on me while on the entrance ramp. my car display flashed the battery symbol as well as the oil life symbol (oil life was at 55% according to vehicle display). it took several minutes before my jeep would start again. i am unsure if the exact cause but i would assume that it is a safety feature to protect the engine, however it put me in a situation that could have easily cost me my life.
At 26,600 miles (3 months ago) my jeep stalled upon executing a left turn. no prior indication. the engine just stalled. took 5 times to restart. apparently, my oil was extremely low without vehicle indication. oil change prior to this first incident was at 21,676 miles. now at 28,900 miles, and my vehicle stalled this morning upon executing a left turn at 2 separate times en route to work, in an intersection. each time the vehicle stalls, the in cab warning "ding" occured, engine stalls, and the engine and battery dashboard indicators illuminate. it takes putting the vehicle in park and 3-5 attempts to restart. no prior driver warnings leading up to the stall.
My 2017 jeep cherokee with little under 45,000 stalled this morning on my way to work. the car lost steering/braking control. the battery light came on and stated i needed to shift to park then to desired gear. my jeep would not run at this point. i had to wait a good 5 minutes until i was able to attempt starting my vehicle. however, when attempting to start the vehicle it did not start on the first 2 tries. the 3rd time it finally started. furthermore, after letting my vehicle sit and cool once i got to my work location which is 40 miles away. i and another co worker checked the oil, and the oil barely registered on the dipstick. i will be going to get the oil changed again since the oil was dark and smelled burnt. this is not the first time i've had issued with the jeep cherokee. the other instance all the shifting gears on the console lite up and a message on the dash stated to shift into the desired gear. this too happened while i was driving. this is unsafe, especially in the first instance whereas you lose all control of your vehicle. i have called the dealership to have the vehicle checked out; however, they are unable to get my vehicle serviced until 2 weeks after this occurrence.
I am having a major issue with my 2017 jeep cherokee and its seems as though this issue is running rampant nation wide. furthermore it seems as though fiat-chrysler knows about it and is doing nothing. my 2017 jeep cherokee 2.4l was purchased from dan on 7/17/2017. since then, it has been having engine problems. . in doing so, it apparently gets so low that the engine cuts off mid driving and i lose all power, steering included. this is clearly a safety issue as i have my 4 and 2 year old in the car with me and this has happened multiple times in the last 6 months. this started happening when the car had less than 25,000 miles on it. there are countless forums online that discuss this issue with jeep cherokees. car is running driving at approx 30mph when all of a sudden warning indicators come on and the car stalls out losing all power including steering. dealership says there is no oil in the car. while reviewing the above jeep forums online everyone is plagued by this. the car burns all the oil! new cars should not be doing this especially to the extent that there is none left in it!!! i park the car in the garage same spot every night. not a drop on the floor
While driving vehicle shuts off with out warning. start is impossible for 30-45 seconds. no check engine light and no drivability issues before or after vehicle shut down. has happened twice in the last few weeks
Vehicle can stop abruptly due to low oil as this engine improperly blows oil out the exhaust at a very high rate. our vehicle blows out 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. the dealer has been monitering this problem since october 2019 when i found the oil level was down 2 quarts. the dealer will not correct the problem or elevate the problem to the manufacturer. we are left with a lemon. we purchased this vehicle new from the dealer it had 11 miles at purchase.this vehicle requires a valve repair or a new engine.
Was driving the car going about 25 mph when the engine just stopped and dashboard screen said put car in park to start ignition. car would not start for multiple attempts until 5 minutes had passed then restarted, only warning on car was oil change required, no low oil or oil pressure warning. was told by technician that the engine will turn off at any time if oil volume or pressure is low. no warning about this on dashboard nor on jeep app nor in owners manual. attaching web page of over 200 jeep cherokee owners with same experience of enfine stopping while in drive, some at high speeds.http://www.carproblemzoo.com/jeep/cherokee/engine-shut-off-without-warning-problems.php is link to site with individual complaints about same issue, went to dealer and had oil changed and issue seems to be resolved but am worried that with time will happen every time due for oil change
I bought my car brand new in may of 2017 after 48,000 miles the "service shifter" light came on and i took it into my service dept and they had to replace the shifter. i was told for this make and model replacing the shifter was not a big deal. after 56,000 miles i came in with a transmission issue. i was 600 miles from an oil change and my car was acting like it needed the oil changed and i took it in to my service dept and they did an oil consumption test on it and ended up having to replace the whole engine. now i am at 62817 miles and the "service shifter" light is back on. both times the service shifter light came on my vehicle was at rest but continued as i was driving. when they replaced my engine the vehicle would sputter and jerk as i was driving and stalled out before i could get it to the dealership.
Car will not start, has to be towed for service. fourth time for same problem. they installed new battery but after approx 30 days it happens again. died one morning backing out of my driveway into street would not start. towed to dealer. happened again friday morning at dealer now.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle and an unknown warning indicator illuminated. orange coast chrysler jeep dodge ram (2929 harbor blvd, costa mesa, ca 92626, (714) 549-8023) diagnosed and replaced the engine and oil, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired a second time. the failure mileage was 31,000.
I was in motion on my way to taking my child to school upon a bridge ramp came to stop sign once i began to move forward after the stop i felt a jolt in the engine as it shifted into gear the service shifter light came on i continued to drive to get to safety and the service shifter light went off . i thought it was just a glitch so i drove my son to school and on returning back home the engine light came on the vehicle started jerking violently and i had to have it serviced . dutch miller in charleston wv said it was sensor number three and that it was replaced. not even two weeks later had the same issue had it repaired and just three days ago i have had it repaired again! today just 3 days after repair the service shifter light came back on . each time the same things happen, the service shifter light comes on, when it goes off the engine light comes on, the radio starts switching from my fm station to an am station for no apparent reason and the vehicle starts jerking violently while driving forcing me to go slower than speed limits on an interstate and even having to pull off the road and my fear is that it is going to cause an accident or catch on fire because i feel that it is a bad electrical system in the vehicle and the dealership i purchased the vehicle from will not assess the issue correctly. i have reached out to the makers of jeep and they are currently looking into the issue. today i am sitting at work wondering if i will even make it home in the vehicle that i am paying for that is supposed to be reliable and its not!!!
My engine guzzles oil and shuts off while driving! this is the 2nd time this has happened!
In aug 2018 i got a service shifter warning and all the lights at the shifter lit up. the shifter bezel and harness replacement repair was covered under warranty. then in may 2019 i got the same warning, and while driving on the interstate i suddenly lost acceleration. i was unable to accelerate over 30 mph, the vehicle was stuttering, and acting like it would shut off. i was able to drive to a nearby jeep dealership. the dealership kept the vehicle for several days. they first stated they would need to replace all the spark plugs and recommended a fuel induction cleaning service, both of which i would need to pay as they were not covered under the extended warranty. several days later the dealership contacted me to advise the repairs they had attempted had not repaired vehicle. they then performed a coil pack replacement and this was covered under the warranty. they also replaced the shifter bezel and the harness replacement, also under warranty. they did not have a rental vehicle available, so i had to pay for this out-of-pocket. the rental and the repairs ended up costing approximately $650 out of pocket. $150 will be refunded after 60 business days according to chrysler. although the spark plugs and the fuel injection cleaning did not fix the problem and are not necessary maintenance at 50,000 miles, both the dealership and chrysler warranty service stated those were maintenance repairs and would not be covered under the extended warranty i had purchased. i most likely will not buy another jeep in the future as i feel the original recommended repairs were a rip off. especially since it was a vehicle malfunction, i bought an extended warranty, and the malfunction could've been very dangerous as it easily could have caused an accident!
At 38,000 miles on our new jeep, the spark plugs are grounding out for some unexplained reason and burning a hole in the bottom of the coil packs boot. causing the plug and coil packs to burn up. i'm being told it's a manufactures part defect that jeep hasn't recognized yet. it's happened 3 different times and jeep won't do anything about it. this problem has almost cost my wife and kids their life, due to getting on the highway and the jeep starts to misfire!!!!
For no apparent reason the "service shifter" message appears on the instrument panel blocking most other active driving information and all dots on the shifter housing become red. see pics. this has occurred countless times since we purchased the vehicle in 2018, but does not appear to affect it's driving capability. i have combed through countless jeep forums on the internet and would say it is a very common problem however with no clear solution. jeep has failed to address this ongoing issue and i am uncertain of the potential risk i am taking by continued driving of this vehicle and what effect this actually has on the vehicle and its future drivability
The vehicle will stall/die while driving. there is no power steering or braking. this has happened multiple times including while driving on the freeway at 60 mph. i was told be the dealership that this is a fail safe that is in place to protect the car from low oil. after the first incident, i kept careful watch on my mileage and oil status but did not physically check my oil. now with 600 miles to go before the next suggested oil change, the car had stalled three times in a week. it is incredibly dangerous because it can happen at any time. the car will not start again right away. i've just dropped it at the dealer and they said this is common with this engine and that i may need to physically check my oil every 1000 miles to ensure it is not low. this is unacceptable. this fail safe put me at risk on a highway and on a highway entrance ramp. i also should not have to physically check my oil on a new car and pay to get oil changes more frequently than suggested. the car has stalled on a neighborhood surface street twice, on a highway entrance ramp once and on the highway at full speed. i have always been driving straight. a message comes on that says, "shift to park or neutral, press brake to select gear". i have seen many similar complaints on the internet.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 50 mph, there was a popping sound under the hood. the contact pulled off of the roadway and, without warning, the vehicle caught fire. the fire department was called and was able to extinguish the fire. a fire report was filed. there were no injuries. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the contact stated that the engine compartment was destroyed. the vehicle was not yet deemed a total loss. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 59,000.
3/15/2019 at 12:15 i was driving back to work after lunch and my center display panel suddenly change from displaying mph to a message that read "service shifter". when i looked at my gear shift all lights were lit instead of just d. i immediately returned home (i was a mile away) and put the car into park. the message remained on my center console and lights remained lit. i turned off/on the vehicle with same results. i put vehicle into garage and called rothrock motors to schedule an appointment. will drop vehicle of 3/16/19 but no eta on return since they cannot tell me what the issue is until they look at it. however, i've found hundreds of complaints in the past 2 years after a very quick google search with same issue for jeeps, not just my model.
Jeep stalls completely within a few blocks of start up during a turn. i have to put the car in park and restart it. restart is labored, and on at least 2 occasions, i had to try more than once to restart the car. mileage is under 37,000. the service department at the dealership recognized the problem when i called them, and has performed an early oil change. that seems to have fixed the problem,at least temporarily. they instructed me to return the car to them in 2000 miles for them to check the oil.
Was driving and all of a sudden the car shut off and the battery light came on. luckily i was able to pull over safely. car would not restart for the next 6 hours. took it to the dealer and they told me it was due to low oil level. i had them do an oil change. was told this was pretty common for the vehicle. this is a very dangerous situation, i was lucky to only be going about 25 mph in a residential area. a recall and repair needs to happen before someone is killed.
While the vehicle has been running and in motion on city streets, the engine will cut off. the car is left without power steering and without power braking. the car must be placed in park to restart thus necessitating the need to come to a complete stop. this has occurred on four separate occasions and appears to be a problems other have on the same model (without resolution).
