While driving i got a 'service shifter ' message and all the lights on my shifter were lit up. i pulled over turned the car off and it went away. it happend again after my oil change at the dealership. it goes away after i restart the car but seems to be a safety problem but the dealership didn't think so. no message or lights after i restart but it has happened more than once.

The service shifter warning has come on multiple times over the past year. we have taken it to the dealer and have been told they can not find anything wrong. this has happened while driving at random speeds and driving conditions. it is now happening every time the jeep is driven, sometimes before we even get to the end of the driveway.

On january 18 2020 i was driving and after only a mile from home, coming to an intersection yielding to go left, my car completely without warning stalled in the middle of an intersection. i tried to re-start and took about 10 minuets get it to restart. i was driving the mile home when then i got a 'oil pressure low light'. i did an oil change that afternoon to find my car only had 2 quarts of oil remaining. my car is burning oil. i do regular oil changes. there are no leaks. i had no warning from my car that my oil was low. although the feature to turn off my car worked properly in the event oil is low, my car is burning a large amount of oil and not giving me a low oil warning before turning off my car. this could have been much worse and happened on the highway which i generally travel. these model cars need to be fixed from burning oil and drivers alerted to when their oil starts to become low, not just shut off in the middle of the road.

After roughly 38,000 miles the vehicle will occasionally display a "service shifter " warning. the error persists until the vehicle is restarted. i plan on taking the vehicle to a dealership as soon as i am able after reading other owners with this warning have had severe issues with their vehicle changing gears without the drivers input.

Transmission will not upshift and engine check light on. vehicle has 13,000 miles. second time this has happened. first time no resolution at 6500 miles. problems related to wiring harness this time according to dealer, apparent common problem but no recalls..

Message "service shifter" pops up on the instrument panel, and a series of red alert lights appear next to every gear on the automatic transmission shifter lever. this problem is rampant among 2017-2018 jeep cherokees!! the dealers are unable to fix the problem! they replace the wiring harness, they replace the shifters themselves, they reset the computers ' and the problem always returns! the website https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t68742_ds990296 alone contains the stories of over 80 jeep cherokee owners who have this ongoing problem. imagine how many jeep owners across america are suffering with this issue! jeep replaced the 2014 shifters that were recalled (the ones that killed star trek actor anton yelchin in 2016) with this new shifter - and this one is just as bad! these vehicles must be recalled!!

The vehicle has had multiple problems since my purchase date issues with the sunroof which has continued to persist, as well as a strut, hub, strut assembly, electronic parking brake and also now that i have taken it in there are more problems arising and now i have a check engine light on service all brake system lights on and light and traction control light on and also a 4wd system unavailable light on after taking it in to get fixed and the dealership fixes one problem and more keep arising! the vehicle was parked and then when i turned it back in that's when the parking brake would not disengage and then the sunroof and popping sounds were happening while driving. the transmission issue is when i am driving it is shifting way to often and shifting very wonky. then also when shift the transmission into gear it doesn't engage and then when it does it litterally could through you forward in your seat when it finally engages.

Transmission shifts up to 7th gear and than down to6th gear some times engine shuts off than restart while driving highway traffic. transmission shifts but engine red lines before you go in gear.

When driving at highway speeds i am not getting all the speeds out of the transmission. at 75 i'm a close to 3,000 rpm, when i put it into manual mode to see what gear i am at it will display i'm currently at 6th gear. where is 7,8,and 9th?

Service shift starter warning comes on constantly while car is in motion. have to turn car off and back on to reset.

Service shifter light cam on feb 2019 and was replaced. 6 months later the light came on again and was replaced for a 2nd time. october 2019 my car was sputtering at an idle and not shifting correctly and an engine coil was replaced. nov 2019 when going from reverse to drive there would be a 15-20 second lag before it would jump into gear and lung forward. i also start experiencing delays when attempting to accelerate it would lag for about 10 second before jerking into gear and lung forward at a higher speed. took it back to the dealership and code p0304 misfire cylinder 4. dealership replaced (under power train warranty) boot kit - ignition coil, lubricant - dielectric, transmission mount, replaced valve body and trans range sensor. car was purchased in december of 2017 with 12 miles on it, current mileage 55,989 with regular maintenance done on vehicle.

Our lights on shifter have all light up and screen in dash tells up service shifter while drivin,it drives fine but i am afraid that it will lock wheels on highway with my two little kids in the jeep.we have taken it in 3 times after it happens and all we are told is they have to have the jeep when shifter acts up and service shifter is on screen.also have had jeep in service about radio freezes up nothing on screen or steering wheel works and was told the same thing. i am seeing both problem we are having a lot of people are dealing with too.i have called jeep customer care and was told the same thing and was told the service manager said maybe i need to take it to another dealership and jeep customer care closed the ticket on the issues.this dealership is larry h miller in utah.i have 6000 miles left on warranty and i am feeling that the dealship doesn't care to fix the problems. it happened at roy, utah.

When starting or driving the car, the service shifter among many other warnings come on and the car does not function normally after that. it is very sluggish and jerks while accelerating. this has happened while stationary and while in motion. multiple trips to dealerships and two years later the problem is still happening. i know of many people that are having this issue and the manufactures are doing nothing about it. my family and i do not feel safe in this jeep.

Vehicle gives 'service shifter" notice and all drive components turn red. does not go away until car is turned off and restarted. this occurs while parked and while the vehicle is operating. when receiving this error while car is operating causes me to have to pull over and turn car off and on again.

At 15,000 miles my service shifter light would turn on. i have to pull over, put the vehicle in park and shut off the vehicle. this happens at least once a month. when i called the dealership they said there was nothing they could do about it if the light wasn't actively on.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds, the service shifter warning indicator suddenly illuminated and the vehicle failed to accelerate. after shutting the vehicle off and restarting the engine, the vehicle operated normally. the vehicle was taken to kamaaina motors (400 e. kawili st, hilo, hi) where it was diagnosed that the shifter wiring harness was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 21,451.

Transmission shifts when it wants, get stuck in gears and shifts hard. has almost caused me multiple accidents. have taken it to jeep multiple times- they have zero answers for me. my car isn't running any error codes so they will not address any issues.

Service shifter continously comes on. spoke with dealership they say just to turn off and turn back on to fix. problem will reoccur every 100 miles.

2017 jeep cherokee started and placed in drive or reverse. all shifter lights come on and dashboard displays message "service shifter" and transmission is locked out. have to shut down and restart vehicle to clear error message and get transmission to work. this has happened multiple times. vehicle only has 25,000 miles on it. i see on web blog that multiple owners of 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 jeep cherokees have same problem. dealers claim either never seen before (lies), or perform software update, or replace shifter and wiring harness. this does not always fix the problem.

Getting a service shifter message. all lights on the shifter are illuminated and will not go away. turn car off, restart, shortly after message reappears service shifter. this is done in a stationary position.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 jeep cherokee. while driving 50 mph, the service shifter warning indicator and several other warning indicators illuminated. the accelerator pedal was depressed to the floorboard; however, the forward momentum was minimal. the vehicle was taken to an auto zone as well as an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but neither mechanic could retrieve a fault code. the contact stated that the failure occurred only when the gear shift lever was placed in the drive position. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. the manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

Service shifter light came on while driving on a city street and all the lights on the shifter glowed red. prnd. drove for a while shut car off and it went away. this has happened twice now .dealer claims they have never heard of it. by the amount of complaints on line i claim they are lying.

Car with just over 20k miles and a "service shifter" message appeared. all the lights on the console are lighted up (pnrd and +-). shift pattern was odd the day before.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 jeep cherokee. while driving up a slight hill, while the vehicle was in drive, the transmission disengaged and rolled in reverse. the contact quickly depressed the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. the contact also stated that he shifted from park into drive several times, but the vehicle was still rolling in reverse and the engine revved. the shifter warning indicator illuminated and instructed the driver to shift into park. also, other unknown warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to jack wolf chrysler jeep dodge (1615 n state st, belvidere, il 61008, (815) 544-9211) who determined that the vehicle was ok. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number. the approximate failure mileage was 54,000.

In april 2018, my gearshift quit working. i was stationary. it would not shift gears. the lights on the gearshift console all lit up. my car was under warranty as it was only 14 months old at the time. the dealer i purchased from replaced the gearshift. on sept. 18, 2019, the gear shift lights all came on, the car dinged and the dashboard said check gearshift. i am now 49,000 miles and out of warranty. i read online there are many complaints of the gear shift/transmission on jeeps including mine, a cherokee.

Service shifter message displayed on screen & speedometer while driving, all lights on transmission shift lit up. persists until vehicle stopped & restarted. was told by dealer that there is a fix, but only available under initial warranty unless i wanted to pay over $200. they had no information as to whether it was a safety concern.

Service shifter message appeared on main cluster where speedometer typically displays. just purchased vehicle used on saturday. looked up message and there does not appear to be a verified fix for the problem, despite a large number of complaints.

My jeep completely shut down while i was driving. i was approximately 1/2 mile from home, made a left turn and everything shut down. i was driving approximately 32mph. it did restart after about 15 minutes and i quickly drove back home and have not driven it since.

Service shifter message appeared while driving a short distance from home. warning was accompanied with red lights on the prndl shifter consol. car continued to drive normally, so i continued home, and shut off car. after a short time, restarted car, and fault had cleared. with a little research, i have found many complaints from other jeep cherokee owners with this same issue, and it is an expensive fix. the car is just past the 360000 mile warranty limit by 70 miles! i am actually surprised i made it that many miles, before this occurred. i will be taking the car in on monday, but for some reason, i am not hopeful, based on other owner experiences.

'check shifter' light came on and all lights on my shifter lit up as well. car shifts very hard as well !

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 jeep cherokee. while attempting to shift the vehicle out of park, the "service shifter" warning message appeared. the contact drove to kriegers ford (3205 north highway 61, muscatine, ia 52761, 563-263-5324) where it was diagnosed that the bezzle and harness were defective. the mechanic informed the contact that the failure could occur at any moment. when the failure occurred, the contact could not shift the vehicle out of gear. the manufacturer was not notified. the contact found no recalls related to the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 43,500.

Car starts to stall after 1000 miles driven in between oil changes. this started at 30000 miles. it stalls in the middle of driving. it stalks at stop signs. this my 16 year old daughters first car. it is not safe.

Service shifter light on dash too to dealer and they said it was fixed then 3-4 months later it started happing again took it back to the dealer and was told that it was out of warranty even though it's under a lease and it would be 210 dollars for the part and about 500 dollars for labor and if we continue to drive it without getting it fix it could stall out anywhere at any time

Several times within the past 2 months, including today; when driving more than 25-35 miles there will be a "service shifter" notification and the associated 'ding' noise notification that comes on. this notification blocks any action on the screen between the speedometer and rpm monitor and only successfully goes away when turning the jeep completely off. this happens while in motion, particularly on highways, and seems to happen more often if i have used or am using cruise control on the trip. it also illuminates all of the lights on the shifter (pnrd +/-). it seems that this could potentially cause a more serious issue with shifting, cause me to become stranded, or become dangerous for myself and other drivers.

I bought the vehicle brand new form the dealer (farrish chrysler jeep dodge ram at 9610 fairfax blvd. va 22031 and it always have issues and stops running, and i have to drop it off to their shop and it takes few days to diagnose the problem which cause me some problems to struggle with my work schedule and my son school and other family schedules. so i need to solve this problem and make sure the vehicle is safe to drive as i am a single mom and i need to not struggle much with a new vehicle.

While driving a warning light comes on that says "service shifter", the car does not seem to have problems, however the dealership is telling me after inspection it will be $600 as the harness is bad. if i do not replace the car can become confused on what gear it is in and randomly shift, major concern if you are traveling 70 mph on the interstate...

Service shifter light keeps turning on while driving. then after restarting the car the lightnmessage goes away dealer ship has been no help with this problem

The 'service shifter' warning light comes on and the steering locks up. this has happened once before and the shifter control module and wiring harness was replaced. it has been about 10 months since that service. chrysler has a warning noted but it's not a recall.

While driving, my car suddenly lost speed and ability to accelerate. a warning popped up "shift to park or neutral press brake + select gear". at the same time on the automatic gear shift console, the red light that highlighted i was in drive began to blink, i lost all ability to drive my car, and had to coast to the side of the road, put it in park. turned the car off, tried to restart and the car would sputter, but eventually catch. happened twice - two days in a row.

Cherokee (2017) has zf 9-speed transmission. when changing from reverse to drive or drive to reverse transmission is slow to respond to the gas pedal. also happens when making turns or going up a hill and pushing gas pedal to recover speed. entering highway traffic or passing has slow response to gas pedal. jeep says it's normal. people are going to have accidents and possibly die from this.

While driving, a message came up on center display advising, "service shifter". once this happened all of the lights on the shifter selector light up (park, reverse, neutral, drive, -, +). we were in a 45mph zone when this occurred. the light never turned off during the entire 40 minute drive.
