Oil filter housing has cracked and leaking oil
The car will shut down with absolutely no warning, doesn't matter how fast you are going. this has happened on both highway and back streets. i'm told by dealer that the issue is the oil was too low and that some sensor shuts down the engine. no warning light, nothing. just happens. can't believe this flaw has not been recalled or caused fatalities. the car consumes oil like it's going out of style. i bought the car used, in march 2017 with 63186 miles on it . i now have just under 74000 miles and have had the oil changed 3x and have been adding oil manually. i see a lot of this issues listed on www.carcomplaints.com and other sites . i've been told by a local dealer that the engine needs to be replaced, but so far have been denied by chrysler. last time it happened was last week (10/24/17). somebody's going to get killed!
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while accelerating from a stop sign, the vehicle shifted into first gear. the vehicle felt as if it were in neutral and hesitated between gears. in addition, the vehicle launched forward. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to tasca automotive group (1300 pontiac ave, cranston, ri 02920, phone number: (800) 788-2114), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. in addition, the contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to paul bailey's chrysler (425 ten rod rd, north kingstown, ri 02852, phone number: (401) 884-1900) where it was diagnosed that the power train failed. the transmission module was reprogrammed, but the failure recurred. the contact stated that the vehicle was burning oil and blue smoke appeared from the tail pipe. the vehicle was taken back to paul bailey's chrysler dealer where it was diagnosed that the spark plugs had carbon build up, the oil level was low, and the oil pressure sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 45,233. ...updated 11/12/17/*bf consumer stated transmission- safety issue excessive consumption- burning oil. updated 7/27/18*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds, a clunking noise was present coming from the engine compartment. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the three engine mounts were fractured and needed to be replaced. the engine mounts were replaced and the failure was remedied. the contact recently discovered that one of the engine mounts fractured again. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer and local dealer (brubaker dodge, chrysler, jeep, 300 eastern blvd, montgomery, al) were notified of the failures, but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 62,000.
The vehicle shut off without ability to steer or shift in the middle of driving. this has happened while driving on 3 separate occasions without resolution or explanation from mechanics or service managers as to why it's happened. there is also jerking or shuddering at vehicles without understanding or resolution on sporadic occasions.
I had been driving my vehicle on side roads at a speed of approximately 25 mph after having dropped my daughter off at school when all of the sudden out of no where the transmission service came onto my screen on the dash and my jeep lost power and the brakes locked up and said that i need to service the transmission. multiple vehicle warning systems started sounding include "check transmission", "put vehicle in park, then select gear", accompanied by warning chimes, the engine light, etc. vehicle switched gears and was difficult to drive. i will be bringing vehicle to dealership but see from reviewing on-line that this has occurred numerous times with the jeep cherokee (2014).
Car cuts off going about 40mph. steering locked up. while i was on highway. problem occurred multiple times. unsafe vehicle purchased top warranty and i'm still being charged for repair. purchased the car used has 40,000 miles. and i have had the car for 3 months yet! car stared back up and wouldn't let me go over 20mph.
While driving down the highway going 65 miles an hour the transmission made a horrible sound and just went bezerk. all i could do is put on my hazards and coast to the side. it would not go into any gear not even park. i was almost hit by several vehicles trying just to get over. he had it towed to the dealership where we were told it was fixed on our way home it did the same thing again. i am literally terrified to drive this vehicle again.
I parked my car in the garage as usually (so vehicle was parked). on top of my garage there is my neighbor's apartment and my apartment is on top of the neighbor's apartment. i am completely sure that, when i came home the night before, i had shut off the car (using the push button- the car has a keyless ignition system) but in the middle of the night the car turned on by itself. we don't know for how long the car was running but it ran enough time to fill my neighbor's apt. with fumes and also the fumes reached my apt. upstairs where i was sleeping with my daughter. the two of us (my daughter and i) were lucky because i had all my windows open (it was hot that night) but my neighbor ended up in the hospital for 3 weeks. at least 19 deaths have been reported nations wide due to keyless ignition malfunctioning issues. there should be some sort of automatic shut down after a certain amount of time but there isn't one in any car that have this keyless ignition system. also very few manufacturers have added a beeping or audio alarm to warn drivers they have walked away with the fob but failed to turn off the ignition. i did turned off my car but still it turned on by itself, causing my car to idle in the garage for many hours. i believe the start/stop button on the dashboard of my car is actually malfunctioning. however when i told this to jeep dealer they said the car is perfect and they want to give me back only $15k. i paid $24k for that very dangerous car! since the incident on september 16th,2017 i have been having anxiety issues and also i had to rely on the goodwill of friends and the use of a friend's car. i now need to move on from this incident and get a car that i can rely on and feel safe parking it in my garage but i want to make sure that these cars are out of the market asap so none will suffer what we suffered. thank you. ..updated 01/04/18 *bf . updated 8/20/18*jb *tr
My wife's 2014 jeep cherokee has 40k miles on it and about a month ago she took it in for service because it started shuddering/vibrating and then shut-off/stalled on her and displayed 'service transmission'. we had it towed to a local dealer here in va and they said it was software recalls that addressed this issue. we took it back 2 more times to this same dealership and they second time they said conveniently that another software fix had come out to fix the issue but we had to pay for it regardless of having the extended warranty because as the service tech put it 'things break'. the third time they told my wife it was her fault for 'over filling the gas tank while pumping' since the issues seem to happen without fail every time she has filled the car up to a full tank since the first issue. now we are taking it to another dealer for the same issue (4th time no fix).
Issue 1. engine: at any time the vehicle's engine will shut off while driving. this issue has happened going 70mph on the highway, and it has happened backing out of a parking spot. i have had my engine shut off on me 5 times, i've only had the vehicle for 3 months. the engine will shut off but all other power will stay on. it seems to happen completely at random, i haven't noticed any relation to speed, type of road, or what the vehicle is doing. issue 2. transmission: the vehicles transmission will randomly shift into neutral while driving. when the vehicle shifts into neutral while i'm accelerating i lose complete control of vehicle acceleration. the problem seems to always happen while accelerating. this issue has also happened to me at a wide range of speeds. this issue has affected me over 10 times, last time being yesterday in a school zone. both issues happen independantly of each other, i haven't found any relation between the two. both issues cause me to lose control of my vehicle in dangerous situations. the way that fca and my dealership treat this issue as if it isn't dangerous is incredibly concerning. my vehicle has been in the shop for a month now and the only solution service has presented is to put a data recorder on board, with the hopes of my vehicle failing on me. my research has lead to one potential link. based on a 2016 fca recall #16v529000, insufficient crimps in the transaxle wiring harness can cause the transmission to randomly shift to neutral, and can cause the engine to stall while driving. this recall has been performed on my vehicle and the issues still persist.
On september 5th, 2017 as i was driving (in motion) on a busy highway, i lost all acceleration power, my check engine light came on, and 'service transmission' showed on the display. i was able to pull over and i restarted my vehicle and was able to get home. once there, i called the dealership and scheduled an appointment for the following week. i mentioned, while making the appointment, that the light and 'service transmission' display had gone off upon restarting my vehicle. they assured me that a fault would still be logged and to bring it in. after arriving at my appointment, the service technician pulled the logged code (p072900 (99 - house tech) a), said he has never seen that fault, and because it was no longer active they couldn't help me. there was no explanation of the code, no explanation of possible causes for the code to log, no examination of my vehicle, no recommendations for if it were to happen again.
Vehicle showed no warning lights, dash lights flashed, then vehicle engine stopped, no steering, no brakes. unable to move vehicle into neutral. vehicle was in motion at 45 miles per hour on the road, going straight.
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving, all of the warning indicators inadvertently illuminated. the contact stated that the engine stalled and lost power. the vehicle was taken to weiner automotive (1151 us hwy 220, moorefield, wv 26836 (304) 530-9000), but no diagnostic failure codes were found and the failure could not be replicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and a claim was filed. the contact stated that the manufacturer was sending a mechanic to inspect the vehicle. the approximate failure mileage was 19,000.
The 9 speed auto trans is dangerous, sometimes it is does not respond to the gas pedal and also it lunges at red lights just before a complete stop after i take my foot off the gas. this happens on a daily basis, below it only gives me one choice but it happens every time i drive it. i have had it in to warwick jeep on rt. 94 in warwick ny where i bought it more than 4x to fix the problem and within a day or two it just comes back. very unsafe!
Since i bought this vehicle, i have had to take to multiple dealers, that could never remedy the "hard jerking, missed gear shifting and repetitive engine light warning and complete engine shutdowns". i now have a vehicle, that i'm told the only fix is to completely repair the transmission, but when the vehicle was under warranty, i was told a computer reprogram would fix the issue. i performed a vin audit, and some of the visits to the multiple dealers don't reflect the actual service, but i have my documents. now i have a negative equity vehicle that i fear to drive, at the moment i just took the car to the dealer, they looked at it and now the engine light is off. i have oral fear the inconsistencies of this vehicle, so i have purchased a new vehicle, until i get a resolve. i took the car to the dealer after multiple complete loss of power on i-80 while coming back from a family trip from nyc. going 65 mph to have the vehicle loss complete power is insane. the only resolve was to pull over, wait, and try again.
Purchased used with 36,000 mi. on 20th day of ownership, experienced the feeling of being hit from behind while approaching driveway at low speed. that evening felt same "rear-ended" feeling while sitting still in drive-thru. the car lurched forward so suddenly that had i not had my foot firmly on the brake, we would have hit vehicle in front of us. simultaneous to "lurch" forward, the car died like the feeling of "popping clutch on manual transmission". drove home and engine died again at about 5 mph after right turn. restarted & continued onto street and into driveway. next morning on my way to work, it felt like it wanted to die and was struggling with gears. i pulled into my parking place and my boss happened to be standing there next to his car. as he stood next to the car while i was in it, it lurched forward again and died. needless to say he was startled, and again, had i not had my foot firmly on the brake, i could have hit him as well as the brick wall in front of the car. so i started the car again and it died again while in "p". not cool, headed to service department. i started it again, and as i started to pull out of the driveway onto a very busy street, the car hesitated (what seemed like a couple of seconds) before it would cross the 2 lanes of oncoming traffic going 40-50 mph. um, yeah. scary. a mile or so down the road, it decided to shut down again, this time in the middle of a 3-lane road going about 30 mph and i was almost rear-ended! i restarted and proceeded to service department - no diagnosis there after them keeping the car for 4 days. they sent to jeep dealer, where it still sits today, waiting for it to act-up and get a diagnosis so it can be "fixed". jeep has had it 15 days and still no answers. i had the car 20 days, and the dealer(s) have had it a total of 18. this car is a tragedy waiting to happen....
Jeep stalls or won't start, try to start multiple time until finally starts and omits white smoke. took to dealership, after checkup, jeep is low on oil but is not due for oil change. dashboard reading shows only 62% oil used. mileage between last oil change was 4839 miles. i was advised that vehicle oil consumption was within limits. had oil changed then same problem ensued again 3.5 months later mileage between oil changes is now 3637 miles driven, dashboard shows 48% oil used and dealership gives me the same excuse. oil is low but no leakage anywhere and consumption is within guidelines for my vehicle. changed oil again and will see what happens in the next 3 to 4k miles. i'm sure i will be back again. how many times do i need to take my vehicle in for the same problem before they look deeper for the root of the problem. oil should only be change every 6000 to 8000 miles, this is how it was in the beginning when i purchased it now the mileage between oil changes get lower and lower.
On some occasions when i get gas my vehicle will completely stop and turn off right before i drive out of the gas station. once restart it takes a few times and then i am able to drive. once on the road it chugs for miles. once the gas sets it's back to normal again. the fuel pressure gage was already replaced a few years ago. no one knows what is wrong and it would cost a lot to find out the source so i just deal with it until i can sell this vehicle. this has happened since 2017 when the vehicle was not even three years old.
My 2014 jeep cherokee latitude at 41000 miles had a brake failure. now at 51000 miles the engine has been stalling while in motion and shifting into neutral. the dealership told me after the 2nd time in for this problem that the vehicle was 3.5 quarts low on oil and the engine had shut off to "protect itself" . the car has been parked for in my garage for 3 days, after driving it for about 3 miles the check engine light came on, upon checking it is again low on oil. i have had the car serviced as recommended and don't understand this sudden oil use, there are no signs of leakage or smoking, and the warning system is not indicating low oil pressure. it is going back to the dealership monday morning.
Engine oil consumption and oil sensor on jeep cherokee 2014 - sport engine caused on last 3 years several life threatening situations not just for me,but also for cars driving around me on highways. each time i call dealership, dealership make technical control. for 2 years dealership was not able find solution for problem, recommended make oil exchange more frequently the 5000 miles for prevent problems ! last year 2016 was on jeep recall finally change oil sensor, but that doesn't help. my last life threatening situation is from saturday last week 06-10-2017. jeep stop on highway, completely paralyzed for 3-4 minutes, just red battery blinking. i was lucky, maneuver with car and prevent several collisions with cars driving around me form highway middle line behind very danger curve ! after 3-4 minutes i was able restart engine and drive to quick oil, because from previous years experiences i know, then this problem is connecting with oil sensor. on car display was oil "good" on quick oil service, serviceman find then there is any any oil on engine he show me scale on which was residual oil which look like asphalt. by quick oil ticket i need oil exchange on next 1600 miles - by recommendation for dealership i change oil each 5000 miles, so accident is happened after driving just 3400 miles. any oil leakage from engine was find, problem is caused by defective engine oil consumption. manager from quick oil immediately call jeep dealership, describe problem on phone, send with me writing description of problem and data to my jeep dealership. the same day from quick oil service, where they put to jeep engine oil for free - i driving to my jeep northgate dealership and start engine oil consumption test - i have return each 1000 miles to dealership for oil consumption monitoring. situation is very danger, need find solution asap !
I place 2 complaints for the same vehicle - on last 3 years, last complaint is from yesterday 06-15-2017 on engine section, the previous complaint was from 2016 electric system section. defective engine oil hyper-consumption and oil sensor malfunction cause electric system collapse, car stop on highways, cause life threatening situations. after read hundreds of the same complaints here, i decide contact jeep headquarters and request valid documentation about car oil consumption. on jeep manual is 10 000 miles, or 16 000 kilometers ! for all who are surprise with dealerships information's about engine oil consumption , when they start oil test - here is valid information, which you can use on contact with dealerships. please find online jeep document tsb 09-007-15 pdf form here is important part of document: the accepted rate of oil consumption for engines used in the vehicles listed above is 1 quart (0.946 liter) in 2,000 miles (3,200 km) for the 1st 50,000 miles (80,467 km). for vehicles with more then 50,000 miles (80,467 km) the acceptable oil consumption for engines is 1 quart (0.946 liter) in 750 miles (1,207 km). on context with this information look on us government " emissions standards for light duty vehicles.https://www.epa.gov/emission-standards-reference-guide/epa-emission-standards-light-duty-vehicles-and-trucks jeep cherokee 2014 engine oil consumption must be on balance with us gov. recommended vehicle emissions. on case then oil is not leaking from engine, oil is overspend by defective engine construction - hardware, or software. defective engines with high emissions must be recall - see case "volkswagen". after witness 8 times situation, which is describe by hundreds of people here, i know, then without valid information's and documents, we are not able make advocacy for our rights.
Today's not the first time i've had problems with my 2014 jeep cherokee, but i will say i'ts been the worst! drove my car during the day then all of a sudden during high traffic hours it decides to jerking and shake while pulling to a red light so i pull into my local wal-mart to see if it was something with my battery because the light came on but the guy said everything was fine so i tried driving more and the car jerked so hard i thought someone hit my car but no one had . while car was in high speeds it started decelerating while on busy roads nearly causing multiple accidents. while driving it loses power giving me a message saying service transmission, battery light and engine light comes on, and while in motion the prnd the d would blink constantly
Hello, my 2014 cherokee sport, 38k miles, 2 wheel drive, has shut off on two different occasions within a 5-day period, without warning as i was driving on a busy road. several warning lights flashed on the dash and suddenly the car turned off. i bought it used 6 months ago. there was a recall #s55 for the transmission, part software and part hardware, that was reported to be complete when i purchased the vehicle, but it sounds like it may not have been completed since i am still experiencing random loss of power to the vehicle. or, perhaps the software upgrade part of the recall was complete, but the part was still not fixed. the local shop could not find anything, of course, and the dealer said that the problem was that the last oil change (2k miles ago) was with semi synthetic rather than synthetic oil, and that i needed to get the oil changed. that is one of the most bizarre things i have ever heard as a cause for engine cutting off. any ideas? it feels like a death trap and i am too afraid to drive it. after two car shops have attempted to find an issue and still tell me that "everything checks out fine" (other than the oil) i am at a loss.
As with many other vehicles my vehicle is sitting of on its own. saying that car needs to be in park. dealership says it is a safety feature to shut engine off in the middle of the freeway. the feature is designed to do this when it is low on oil. no wasting light of low oil just immediately shuts off. very dangerous when you are driving down i 10 in downtown phoenix. something needs to be done many people are having this issue and nothing is being done about it. this is why we pay taxes to have departments watching over this kind of stuff protecting the consumer. this issue is repeating it has happened a couple of times and will continue until engine is replaced.
The car shuts off while driving (happens when going 10mph-70mph) i get an error message saying place car in park and shift to gear and the battery light flashes and some other lights on dashboard. i have had my battery checked which is fine and oil changed and still having the issue, jeep told me i have to pay to have diagnostic testing however looking online there are 200-300 complaints i have seen showing the same issue and them being told numerous things to fix the issue which result in spending tons of money with no result. this is very dangerous as the car stops running while on highways or even main roads which could cause an accident. i have 2 small children and i do not feel safe driving in the car anymore. there doesn't seem to be a exact time this happens it happens at different speeds while accelerating or while going a steady speed, low mph or high it happens randomly and frequently.
Vehicle shuts off while in motion. replaced with new motor and reprogrammed pcm and tcm 3 mths earlier because of same problem. car stalling when driving. in service again for a 2nd motor. oil was 0% empty when brought for service. oil indicator states good at 46% on instrument panel. 2nd time for engine replacement. first replacement at 27 k miles. now in for 2nd engine replaced cement at 31k miles. travelling on busy street at 37 mph when car shut off had grandchild in vehicle and tried pulling off to side street almost tboned by another vehicle. this vehicle has shut down 6 times in the past week while driving.
Excessive oil consumption. using 3 1/2 quarts of oil in the oil change mileage of 3000-3400 miles. once engine oil level reaches 2 quarts of enigine oil, engine will automatically stop with no low engine oil light or warning. it will stop on highway , street, driveway, no matter where you are. which to me is a safety issue. supposedly it is designed to do that so the engine will not burn up. jeep said they recognize 1 qt of oil consumption for every 1000 miles for a vehicle over 50,000 miles which to me is excessive especially with today's industry standard.
Service transmission warning and check engine: vehicle moving uphill, auto transmission shifts to lower gear; transmission begins to slip and ability to maintain speed drops; happened in middle lane of interstate; managed to exit interstate and park; very little power to move vehicle; safely parked and turned off engine. waited 2 - 4 minutes; restarted engine; service transmission warning off; check engine "on". vehicle operated normal; check engine light went off later; had loosened gas cap and retightened to see if check engine light would go out - it didn't have an immediate effect on the light. had to maneuver behind 18 wheeler and crawl speed up the exit ramp. ended up cross ways in a side road for a few minutes while the transmission 'feathered' vehicle to safe spot. no collision this time. vehicle has been in shop for similar complaint one month earlier.and more times previously
Tl* the contact owned a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and crashed into the jersey wall. the contact sustained a fractured right foot and a torn ligament in the left knee. the passenger incurred hand injuries. both occupants required medical attention. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic (north texas collision located in arlington, texas). the vehicle was not diagnosed and was deemed a total loss. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 62,863.
After fixing the transmission recall. my transmission has once again started acting up. jeep refuses to switch gears. must service vehicle again. this is an ongoing issue, it seems, with multiple owners. vehicle itself needs to be recalled immediately. vehicle in motion. on highway. (both times)
I attempted to stop for a stop light on a 4 lane road and the vehicle would not stop. it kept accelerating as i pressed the brake. i shifted into neutral and the tachometer was between 6000 to 7000 rpm. i hit the accelerator a few times and it dropped to normal rpm's. the stop light changed to green and i put the shifter from the neutral position to drive. the vehicle would not move for about 30 seconds.
Just bought with 40k miles one month ago (1/21/2017). 1 week after buying, while driving through the middle a busy city intersection, the engine shuttered and shut itself off. i was right in middle of intersection. the display indicated that i had to put the car in neutral to restart. i did, but it restarted and pressing gas didn't even rev the engine. i waited about 30 seconds and restarted. it worked and i drove away. found out about safety recall that day and had jeep dealer do the recall the next day..then, 2 weeks later, i was in park at the vet with the engine on, the engine stuttered and did the exact same thing. i restarted it and again, pressing the gas...even flooring it...did not even rev the engine at all. i waited about 30 seconds, restarted, and drove off fine. i got an oil change with full synth (0w 20) oil the next day, because of some reports that the oil could be part of the problem. then only a week later (yesterday, 2/18/17), i was on a trip to west virginia with my wife (140 miles from home), and was driving away from a stop light (turning right) and it did the exact same thing. the engine just shuttered and shut itself off while driving. i was lucky to drift close to the side of the road, but i didn't even get fully off the road, restarted, and no amount of pressing the gas would even rev the engine. i turned it off, waited 30 seconds, and restarted. it works, though it doesn't seem smooth any more, but now the check engine light is on. i've had many vehicles, but have never had a problem like this. i will be going back to jeep to have them look at it, but i don't want to keep paying for visits where they can't find anything (like a lot of folks with this particular model on the boards). i love this vehicle, but i'm actually afraid to drive it. ...updated 05/11/17 *bf
While driving and turning around the corner, vehicle lost power but i was able to drive to the side of the road. it also did this the following day. after a internet search, i found out that the vehicle will lose power such as this if the oil is low. after checking the oil dip stick, it was low by 2 quarts. no oil indicator displayed in the vehicle. after adding the oil, the stalls went away.
Something strange started happening, it shifted to neutral while i was trying to stop at a red light, almost went through. brakes locked later had it towed to the dealer they kept a few days, said nothing was wrong. from day one i was told it was a 9 speed shift thing and i felt every single one. they told me that was normal. so me unable to do anything about the situation, but trust the dealer, kept driving this car, that i felt unsafe in every second of every day. each day i prayed that it did not happen again. till this day, it still shifts from each gear with a jerk, i notice the persons heads in my car jerk, every time i go from a stop to try to accelerate. it has had such a strong kick when it shifts gears that i felt like i was getting hit in the rear by another vehicle. this continued for a while and then the car began to start oddly, and as i shifted from park to reverse or park to drive the car literally felt as if the engine, transmission, what have you was going to fall out of the bottom of the car. each time i shifted to park to reverse it would jolt. i then tried to go in reverse and the car was sounding and feeling so scary that i had it towed to the dealer yet again. i at this time, was over my miles and due to me leasing the warranty was done, so the dealer would not look at it free, luckily there was a recall on sensor wire harness, powertrain control module and the transmission control module, so they told me they would fix the recall only. the recall was done january 17, 2017. they kept my car for 6 days. after they fixed the recall, the car worked better, the gear shifts have never changed. today is march 28, 2017 and the car began acting the same way prior to the recalls about 2 weeks ago, again i just pray that it will just start. today it almost did not start and the shift to reverse dreadful.
Check engine light came on december 17th and when we were able to take it into the dealership for the third time with transmission light on also, they were supposed to complete the repair and did not. as of january 16th, 2017 we have been notified that when the check engine light came on again and was hooked up to be diagnosed the engine needed to be replaced. we cannot get a straight answer on anything but i know it is related to the transmission. all that jeep has done each time is reset the computer to wipe out the warning lights and sent us on our way. it could have at anytime injured or killed myself, my husband, child and anyone else while we continued to drive the vehicle.
On 3 occasions. i've had this vehicle at the dealership, explaining the vehicle hard shifts, lunges, disengages, 'd' warning light blinks, and engine dies. and each time the service writer tells me they can find no problems. according to automotive news report dated feb. 2, 2015, this is not new news. jan. 11, 2017, my wife was driving home from work after dark, in the inside lane, and the engine died, and had to coast to the unsafe inside shoulder against the barrier wall, with no way for me to come to her rescue. called a wrecker, towed the jeep home, only to get home and check it out, and find no evidence of any problems. what's more, the service writer also told me the usual amount of oil this engine uses (about a quart a month) is normal. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 70 mph, the gear shifter failed to move into neutral and the service transmission warning indicator illuminated. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. then vehicle was restarted and was able to drive; however, the failure recurred five miles down the road. the contact stated that the coolant increased to 200 degrees. the vehicle was taken to chrysler jeep dodge ram 24 (1020 belmont st, brockton, ma 02301, (781) 961-1550) where it was diagnosed that the transmission, four spark plugs, one coil pack, an auto grill shotter, and jumper harness needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 99,000.
While driving on a city street at about 40 mph, the vehicle shut down and i could not accelerate or steer. i received the message on the message center that said "car must be in park in order to shift." the vehicle started again after about 30 minutes and numerous attempts. the following day, i took the car to the dealer. i ended up being told that they found no oil in the motor, they did an oil change and i should begin an oil consumption test. i should note, i had gone almost 6,000 miles since my last oil change when this occurred and received the "oil change required" message on the message center for the first time that very morning. the dealer told me this is a known problem with this model year and engine. i asked why i didn't get some type of warning light. was told that this model does not have a low oil indicator light. i said ok, but it does have an oil pressure light and a check engine light, why wouldn't one of those come on? they had no answer. i started monitoring the oil myself every 250 miles. after i drove 1000 miles, the oil was at the same full level as it was when the oil change occurred. i went back to the dealer and they came to the same conclusion. i was told to come back again in 1000 miles. i was monitoring the situation for the next 1000 miles and, as of the the day before i took the car in, the oil level dropped about half way down the "full zone". the dealer told me the oil was exactly the same as before and there is nothing wrong with the car! i am fortunate the car stalled while i was driving at a relatively low rate of speed. after researching, this is a common problem in this year's model that jeep is aware of and it sounds like the only solution to the problem is to replace the engine. i was told the same by the dealer initially, but now i am being told there is nothing wrong with the car.
Sometimes car won't start completely out of oil no warning not fit for change bucking from transmission cooling 2 codes set off one said vacuum leak other unknown complete electrical panel went pickles across dash radio phone sinking have to shift down car for to rebut motor sounds like jet engines now tapping all four brakes rotors and calipers needed to be replaced bucks forward no warning lights have to manually go threw computer to find out what is wrong transmission worked on twice told at first nothing wrong also ac failed now other fans not working cooling not holding shaking in dash gone up as high as 300 smell antifreeze all before 2000 miles. *tr
Vehicle being considered for lemon policy. vehicle is surging / moving / creeping when stopping at less than 2 mph. wife will no longer drive due to safety concern. has forced us to seek rental vehicle until chrysler approves solution. transmission "klunking" during 2nd to 3rd gear shift change. recent hesitation from engine when starting in 1st gear as normal. this is new transmission and appears to be getting worse since replacement and stall issue reported during highway driving which forced vehicle to side of road with no power. dealer notified. chrysler will not authorize rental vehicle until resolved, very dangerous situation to continue to drive. *tr
My 2014 jeep cherokee has randomly been popping up a must be in park to shift message followed by the battery sign and then just stalling out. the dealership is attributing this to low oil level. my car never gives any kind of message that states the oil level is low and is not showing that the vehicle yet needs an oil change. dealership states its because of intermittent oil pressure. the car stalls out to protect the engine from over heating. i think this is a very unsafe feature for my call to stall out with out any warning in the middle of a busy main city street. this happened four times in five days before i finally demanded the dealership provide me a loaner car because their next available appointment was 3 weeks out.
When driving, the vehicle shuts down and message on dash says "car must be in park in order to shift." vehicle will not restart. this problem has happened multiple times while vehicle is in motion. we have had it taken into the dealership with no resolve. after researching, this is a common problem in this year's model that jeep is aware of. however, the common resolution is dealership still claiming an oil change is needed. most recently our jeep was 500 miles under the dealership's recommended oil change. i fear for my family's life if this stall happens when crossing busy highways in town. *tr
The vehicle has shut off while driving in the middle of an intersection on two separate occasions. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly decelerated and the "four wheel drive unavailable" message appeared. also, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to reedman toll chrysler (300 baltimore pike, springfield, pa) and the transmission was replaced. later, while driving, the vehicle suddenly shut off. the vehicle was taken to the same dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump was faulty. the fuel pump was replaced, but the failures continued. later, the water pump was replaced and the transmission would not switch into the park position. the cause of the failures was not determined. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 25,000.
For the 3rd time - check engine light, check gas cap light come on, odometer starts flashing and vehicle loses all acceleration after those lights come up. you can floor the gas pedal and the vehicle will barely get to 40 mph. last time it was brought to the dealership they performed flashes (3 weeks ago) and the issue went away. happened again today while pulling out of a busy shopping center and the car lost the ability to accelerate and had to limp it home to be towed to the dealership. the dealership advises they are unaware of any issues like this however there are multiple reports of this make\model\year having this exact same issue. the first time it happened i was doing 80 mph on the interstate and the car immediately dropped to 40 mph nearly causing a collision.
When slowing for a stop sign the car stalled once 5 days ago but restarted after shutting down and it was fine. then yesterday morning it stalled 3x before leaving my development. i drove to have the battery checked locally and it was ok. i drove to the dealership who told me the problem was because the oil was low, that these cars burn a quart of synthetic oil every 2000 miles and "when the oil runs low they shut off to protect the car." what?? and how dangerous. i questioned a recall recently received about jeeps stalling while driving and was told it wasn't related. i'm really just in awe and disbelief that this could be a feature that the manufacturer planned for!
Vehicle will stall and cut off while driving. *tr
