Problems with 2014 Jeep Cherokee POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 31 947 miles.

Components Affected by POWER TRAIN Issues

We have classified the 977 complaints from 2014 Jeep Cherokee about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 4

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Issue 1. engine: at any time the vehicle's engine will shut off while driving. this issue has happened going 70mph on the highway, and it has happened backing out of a parking spot. i have had my engine shut off on me 5 times, i've only had the vehicle for 3 months. the engine will shut off but all other power will stay on. it seems to happen completely at random, i haven't noticed any relation to speed, type of road, or what the vehicle is doing. issue 2. transmission: the vehicles transmission will randomly shift into neutral while driving. when the vehicle shifts into neutral while i'm accelerating i lose complete control of vehicle acceleration. the problem seems to always happen while accelerating. this issue has also happened to me at a wide range of speeds. this issue has affected me over 10 times, last time being yesterday in a school zone. both issues happen independantly of each other, i haven't found any relation between the two. both issues cause me to lose control of my vehicle in dangerous situations. the way that fca and my dealership treat this issue as if it isn't dangerous is incredibly concerning. my vehicle has been in the shop for a month now and the only solution service has presented is to put a data recorder on board, with the hopes of my vehicle failing on me. my research has lead to one potential link. based on a 2016 fca recall #16v529000, insufficient crimps in the transaxle wiring harness can cause the transmission to randomly shift to neutral, and can cause the engine to stall while driving. this recall has been performed on my vehicle and the issues still persist.

On september 5th, 2017 as i was driving (in motion) on a busy highway, i lost all acceleration power, my check engine light came on, and 'service transmission' showed on the display. i was able to pull over and i restarted my vehicle and was able to get home. once there, i called the dealership and scheduled an appointment for the following week. i mentioned, while making the appointment, that the light and 'service transmission' display had gone off upon restarting my vehicle. they assured me that a fault would still be logged and to bring it in. after arriving at my appointment, the service technician pulled the logged code (p072900 (99 - house tech) a), said he has never seen that fault, and because it was no longer active they couldn't help me. there was no explanation of the code, no explanation of possible causes for the code to log, no examination of my vehicle, no recommendations for if it were to happen again.

Issues jerking and hard shifting while driving. car lurches forward and moves in jerky movements. almost caused an accident because vehicle stalled then lurches forward hard.

Accelerating from a stop, the vehicle will either rev up and drop really hard into the second gear or i will apply the gas pedal which will not accelerate the vehicle very quickly as it should (almost like a drowning out feeling). i have also had issues with it not shifting at all and the vehicle will stick into gear in which i have had to drive at 6000 rpm for an extended period of time.

The car does not fall into the proper gear and often seems like the gear has fallen into neutral and revs up although the gear shift knob is in drive. moreover the button on the gear shift knob has fallen off without any signs of damage. reported the problem to the dealer but dealer says the whole gear assembly needs to be replaced with parts cost of about $75 and a labor cost of about $145 totalling about @225. the issue was reported on the 37th month of vehicle purchase and the dealer was not ready to apply any consideration and confirmed that the charges need to be paid since the vehicle is out of warranty by a month

2014 jeep cherokee. consumer writes in regards to issues with delayed gear shifting. *ld updated 10/4/2017*js

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the service indicator illuminated when switching the shifter into park, drive, and reverse. after turning the vehicle off and restarting the engine, the service indicator was illuminated again. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure was not determined. the local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000. the vin was invalid.

The transmission is exhibiting numerous symptoms of failure including abrupt and harsh shifts. it also went into a mode where the vehicle would not enter drive or reverse with many error and warning messages and lights. there were saved error codes that the dealer erased prior to troubleshooting, and the error codes did not regenerate. during this recent failure, i was stopped in the middle of the street and unable to move forwards or backwards. turning off the ignition and then restarting the engine allowed the vehicle to be backed off the street albeit with most of the warning indicators and error messages still active/

The car while going down the road at 50mph shut off losing all power steering and power brake and there was a "service transmission" message on the dash. when the car restarted and put in drive there was a clunking sound and all indicators were blinking. then the message said " shift to park then drive"

I was making a right turn and stopped for a few seconds, and the car suddenly shut down on me - service transmission message came on. took it to arrigo dodge chrysler jeep ram sawgrass in tamarac, fl and was told all my car needed was a 'software' update and it had been checked and passed all tests. they assured me the car had no issues and was safe to drive. i drove the car and within 2 weeks the car did the same thing, while i was at a stop sign. took the car back in and they told me there was nothing wrong with the car. safe to drive, they reset it. the car didn't have any 'codes' saved. which the service person told me, yes i know its malfunctioning but it the codes don't save we can't do anything. this makes the car even more dangerous last thursday i was driving on i95 at 80mphs and the car started to jerk and shake and within seconds the car abruptly stopped in the middle of the highway! i almost got rear ended by two cars also driving at high speeds. i could have easily died in that car if someone was to crash into me then. took the car back to jeep and they told me there was a code for the transmission module to be replaced. the technician supposedly drove the car for 100 miles and nothing happen to him. i told them that there is enough information online to know that the transmission in these cars are not safe and are malfunctioning. they know about this, they know what the issue is and they still tell me that the car is safe to drive! i told them to be honest and based on what had happened to me, if what they fixed made sense to solve the issue, they said yes. to not worry about it. picked the car up on saturday, sunday night the car started jerking and suddenly shutdown while i was driving in the middle of the road, again, almost caused a car accident. it jerks and shuts down so abruptly that my neck hurts from the slamming and whiplash.

October 19, 2017 originally we had keep the car in the garage and rarely drove it until this past summer when we took a planned road trip to western national parks we had never seen. we had the car checked at the dealership prior to the trip and no issues were brought up. the car had less than 25,000 miles then during the trip we noticed issues with the transmission and brakes. we took the car to a jeep dealership and told it would get us home. we turned the car into the tacoma jeep dealership @ 30,000 miles and determined that the warranty took care of the transmission we were given a rental car and the repairs took over a month. today i drove our 2014 jeep cherokee for the first time since my wife brought it home from the dealership after a transmission replacement due to defective design. i drove to the post office and returned. the transmission is still acting like it has a mind of its own, but during the return trip while in an intersection making a left turn to the hy 16 on ramp. the car acted like the engine had died, (absolutely no response from the transmission) for about 7 seconds and seemed like an eternity, trying to determine what to do with oncoming traffic. the transmission finally engaged and i was able to clear the intersection. this brings the cars reliability and safety into sever question. this incident also brings into question wither a repair was made to the design of the transmission had been accomplished if any. i also noticed on inspection while the vehicle was running from outside of the engine compartment that what sounds like an exhaust leek and a higher noise level than when the fairly new car (30,000 miles)was turned in for repair.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds, the gear shifter indicator illuminated and the emergency brake engaged independently. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the tied wire harness was hanging from the vehicle. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred several times. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to get a rental vehicle. the approximate failure mileage was 74,000. the vin was not available. *ln consumer stated complete gear shift failure, entire shift column would light up and car emergency brake would engage. updated 7/27/18*jb

Vehicle has been in the shop 2x in past year for same issues. i had put my vehicle in the shop back in october 2016 because it would stop on me in the middle of driving whether it be i'm coming down the hill at a stop sign or driving down a residential street and it would just lose all motive power. would also lose power on freeway where i would have to immediately try and find a way to get over. recently this time it lost power anf when i restarted it it wouldn't go in reverse and only go in drive i was only able to go up to 25 miles per hour on my way to the dealership. the last time it broke down i put it in the shop and they said they had replaced my transmission since they did not have the part for my transaxle recall and that was to fix the problem. however the problem is still happening and i fear for my safety. it is currently in the shop right now again hopefully they can fix it this time and not just push me off like they did last time

The 9 speed auto trans is dangerous, sometimes it is does not respond to the gas pedal and also it lunges at red lights just before a complete stop after i take my foot off the gas. this happens on a daily basis, below it only gives me one choice but it happens every time i drive it. i have had it in to warwick jeep on rt. 94 in warwick ny where i bought it more than 4x to fix the problem and within a day or two it just comes back. very unsafe!

Since the very beginning driving 2014 jeep the transmission slips. taking it back to the dealer service dept for all maintenance asking them to check the trans have complained of the slipping and told every time it is way the trans works. i have 60k miles on this vehicle i am concerned that the trans will fail while i am on the road and cause a deadly accident. 8/10 i had an app't for an oil change. i requested a vehicle check and check brakes as they did not seem to be working as they should. was informed the vehicle needed front/back brakes and that rotors needed replaced. i only traveled about 15 miles when i heard a clinking sound in left rear it sounded as if a lug nut loose when i stopped the rear of my vehicle lowered and when moving it sounded like a bucket of metal in my rear wheel. i turned into a parking. when backing up the vehicle froze i stopped, called service department of freedom. i had my vehicle towed back to the service dept. was told issue was brakes were not installed/secured properly. i asked that all the brakes be inspected, if the tech did not know how to install one there was a concern for the other 3 wheels i did not want to take a chance of having a fatal crash. i also asked that all work be reinspected. when explaining what had happened it was obvious rep was speaking beyond scope of her knowledge ' this was very frustrating i was placed in a very dangerous situation due to the poor workmanship of the tech. the story did not make sense the more she tried to explain it was more convoluted. i was transferred to the service mger who explained what happened, admitted that brake failure was tech's fault. in light of all the times i have had the jeep into service dept complaining about trans does not give me a level of confidence that there is not something significant with the trans i would like an investigation into this matter

Since i bought this vehicle, i have had to take to multiple dealers, that could never remedy the "hard jerking, missed gear shifting and repetitive engine light warning and complete engine shutdowns". i now have a vehicle, that i'm told the only fix is to completely repair the transmission, but when the vehicle was under warranty, i was told a computer reprogram would fix the issue. i performed a vin audit, and some of the visits to the multiple dealers don't reflect the actual service, but i have my documents. now i have a negative equity vehicle that i fear to drive, at the moment i just took the car to the dealer, they looked at it and now the engine light is off. i have oral fear the inconsistencies of this vehicle, so i have purchased a new vehicle, until i get a resolve. i took the car to the dealer after multiple complete loss of power on i-80 while coming back from a family trip from nyc. going 65 mph to have the vehicle loss complete power is insane. the only resolve was to pull over, wait, and try again.

Purchased used with 36,000 mi. on 20th day of ownership, experienced the feeling of being hit from behind while approaching driveway at low speed. that evening felt same "rear-ended" feeling while sitting still in drive-thru. the car lurched forward so suddenly that had i not had my foot firmly on the brake, we would have hit vehicle in front of us. simultaneous to "lurch" forward, the car died like the feeling of "popping clutch on manual transmission". drove home and engine died again at about 5 mph after right turn. restarted & continued onto street and into driveway. next morning on my way to work, it felt like it wanted to die and was struggling with gears. i pulled into my parking place and my boss happened to be standing there next to his car. as he stood next to the car while i was in it, it lurched forward again and died. needless to say he was startled, and again, had i not had my foot firmly on the brake, i could have hit him as well as the brick wall in front of the car. so i started the car again and it died again while in "p". not cool, headed to service department. i started it again, and as i started to pull out of the driveway onto a very busy street, the car hesitated (what seemed like a couple of seconds) before it would cross the 2 lanes of oncoming traffic going 40-50 mph. um, yeah. scary. a mile or so down the road, it decided to shut down again, this time in the middle of a 3-lane road going about 30 mph and i was almost rear-ended! i restarted and proceeded to service department - no diagnosis there after them keeping the car for 4 days. they sent to jeep dealer, where it still sits today, waiting for it to act-up and get a diagnosis so it can be "fixed". jeep has had it 15 days and still no answers. i had the car 20 days, and the dealer(s) have had it a total of 18. this car is a tragedy waiting to happen....

Several incidents where vehicle suddenly looses ability to move forward. engine still runs, display says shift to park, then back to desired gear. check transmission light, check parking brake light. loss of power occurs suddenly - has occured while crossing intersection. requires stopping car. putting in park. usually i also have to shut down ignition and restart, then shift back into drive. problem resets the transmission, causing any learning data to be absent - first shifts into gear extremely rough. vehicle has had transmission recall preformed - but this is not the issue. chrysler has informed me that certain errors can occur that send a shut down code to the transmission. obd2 code when this happened for me was p1ddd-00. they say that fuel valve issues in the fuel system cause the code, which in turn shuts down transmission. note attached service bulletin that hints at issue. the crazy thing is a fault in the fuels system allows the engine to continue (great since engine continues - now my car engine could catch on fire and i have no motive power) - but resets the transmission, leaving one stranded for several moments where ever this occurs. chrysler tells me other issues can can cause transmission shut down in lieu of going to limp mode. i have had several issues of this in the 3 years of ownership - many people think there is a transmission issue - maybe there are on some cars - but now i learn that other failures can cause random resets of the transmission. chrysler says - see service bulletin - even overfilling gas tank can cause this issue. vehicle is unsafe to drive and unfit to be on the streets.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the gear shift failed to work and a loud noise was heard when attempting to change gears. the failure occurred without warning. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired.the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 19,000. updated 08/22/17*lj the consumer stated the vehicle would shut down while in motion. the battery was changed, but the failure recurred. *js

Ongoing transmission issue - even after software updates the transmission on this 2014 trailhawk fails without warning. this has always happened while driving on city streets. the vehicle just shuts down, the transmission loses power and forward momentum. the vehicle is still running, but you can press down on the accelerator and go nowhere, steering is also affected. first, we were told by san antonio chrysler dodge jeep that this was an issue with the fuel tank - that filling up the vehicle causes fuel to spill over into some area causing it to stall... really ?... okay. then we were told it was a software issue and an update would fix the problem - nope. this has happened to us while trying to make left-hand turns, while traveling in heavy traffic, and while trying to accelerate into intersections or while accelerating out into traffic from parking lots... and it happens without warning - the vehicle just quits. it's dangerous and you take your life into your own hands every time you drive it. the latest software updates were done in january 2017 (which cdj wanted to charge us for). the updates still didn't fix the problem so we left the trailhawk sitting in the driveway - that killed our battery. the trailhawk is at the dealership now and they want $300.00 (250. plus labor) for a new battery and charge us to do another "transmission software update" because it's "not under warranty" even though we bought the extended 75,000 mile warranty (which was supposed to be a chrysler warranty, but we have recently learned is a 3rd party warranty" -_- . i'm tired of chrysler's inability to fix this ongoing and dangerous situation - and we are still making our payments on a vehicle we can't drive.

5 times now the car will not move it says check transmission this has happened in middle of highway and in the middle of town in traffic chrysler has reset and replaced transmission modules and it is still doing it! this is very dangerous! on the road you slow to a stop it idles down and goes to check transmission and will not move either get it pushed out of the way or had to roll backwards out of traffic at a light. once had to push across 4 lanes of road to get out of traffic again rolled up to a stop it lt would not go into gear forwards or back!

I have a 2014 jeep cherokee latitude that is a lemon. it jerks really hard when you take off from a stop, it loses power while driving down the road, the steering gets really tight and you can barely turn the wheel while driving, if you dont wait for the car to jerk twice when you put it in drive it will go backwards in reverse while in drive, the radio and climate controll constantly reset do to power failure, sometimes it dont want to start, the check enine light did'nt even come on until a week after the problems started, it throws warning lights like low tire pressure or traction controll when nothing is wrong, and the dealership wants to charge me $800 (that i can not afford) just to see what they need to do to try and fix it. they don't even know whats wrong or if they even can but they expecet me to pay them!!! i have only had my car 15 months and it only has 38,000 miles on it,and now i find out that it has went way down in value due to all the recalls. what can i do????

Was driving the car and transmission started to disengage. rpms were going high but the car was not moving. later that day, the car lunged and the service transmission light came on the car dashboard. the car would go in reverse but not forward. we turned it off, then back on. same issue but the car let us drive it home. had to have the car towed to the dealership. this is a 2014 jeep cherokee trailhawk with only 22,000 miles. the transmission has been acting up since the day we purchased it. it's an automatic shift, but it is very rough, the car hestiates when you press on the gas. not surpised that the transmission has gone out on a 3-year old car with only 22,000 miles - pityful.

Really bad/rough gear shifting, jumping, banging, lurching. violently shaking and sometimes doesn't even go into gear when accelerating from a stop. on city streets when having to stop for a stop sign or traffic light

While driving the car just stops in the middle of road and he transmission does not work. this is 5th time with the same issue. jeep could not fix the issue.

Transmission issues and traction control. lurches forward, shakes when taking off, hesitates when taking off (sometimes 10 seconds or more) then kicks into gear really hard. traction light comes on and have reduced power, rpms are very high but the car just doesn't want to go. sometimes will tell me to put the car in park then shift to desired gear. the trans will not go into gear. it left me stranded alone on a major road late at night. when it arrived at the dealership, they couldn't find anything wrong with it. it has spent over a month at one dealership. been in multiple times for the trans and they do an update and say its all good. this car has put me in quite a few near misses. you never know when you are not going to have the power you need. the times i have experienced the problems, it didn't matter if i was turning or driving a straight line. this has been going on with my vehicle for 2 years. they performed a recall that was supposed to fix it but i did nothing. its almost like it got worse.

My 2014 jeep cherokee latitude at 41000 miles had a brake failure. now at 51000 miles the engine has been stalling while in motion and shifting into neutral. the dealership told me after the 2nd time in for this problem that the vehicle was 3.5 quarts low on oil and the engine had shut off to "protect itself" . the car has been parked for in my garage for 3 days, after driving it for about 3 miles the check engine light came on, upon checking it is again low on oil. i have had the car serviced as recommended and don't understand this sudden oil use, there are no signs of leakage or smoking, and the warning system is not indicating low oil pressure. it is going back to the dealership monday morning.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, there was a two second delay before the vehicle would move. the vehicle would then accelerate at a rapid speed and then drop to normal speed without warning. the contact heard a metallic noise in the transmission. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (dick scott chrysler dodge jeep ram at 684 ann arbor rd, plymouth, mi 48170, (734) 451-2110), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified, but did not offer further assistance. the failure mileage was 25,874.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and the "service transmission" warning message appeared. in addition, all of the instrument panel indicators illuminated without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle, but the failure recurred approximately ten minutes later. the contact stated that the rear tires made grinding and hammering noises as well. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact left a message with stuart chrysler, dodge, jeep, ram (800 serramonte blvd in colma, ca 94014), but the call was not returned. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 21,600.

My 2nd report. my transmission died for the 2nd time within 33 days. jeep stopped in traffic and would not go forward. service transmission light came on. almost hit with my 2 year old in car. not safe. have had repeated transmission problems that continue to happen. something is going to happen if jeep doesn't fix this. i'm scared to use vehicle

2014 jeep cherokee. consumer writes in regards to issues with car stalling. *ld the consumer stated that the vehicle shifted hard between first and second gear. a "thud" could be heard when the vehicle jerked. the vehicle would "chug" and stall at intersections. the stalling also occurred when reversing and upon breaking in order to shift. the vehicle propelled forward when downshifting nearly hitting the vehicle in front of it. the vehicle became stuck at 3000 plus rpm when going down hill. the brake would have to be applied in order to have the car shift. the vehicle had a "howling" sound at the front end that worsens in cold weather. it was only heard while in motion. the radio randomly switched stations. also, it would switch from the radio to the phone. phone calls would not go through, but the timer for the call would connect. the radio and phone would be inoperable until the vehicle was restarted and they key removed from the ignition for at least 3 minutes. the dealer could not duplicate the failures. the consumer was concerned the warranty would run out before the vehicle could be repaired. updated 08/28/2017*js

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle independently shifted into neutral while driving 45 mph. the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to hoffman chrysler jeep dodge where the failure could not be diagnosed. the contact stated that the failure occurred twice. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the repair for nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train) was completed. the contact was advised to drive the vehicle to make sure the failure would not recur. the failure mileage was approximately 29,000.

Against my better judgement, i purchased an immaculate, loaded 2014 jeep cherokee limited with 31k miles. wife loved the vehicle, it drove/rode great and felt like a great purchase. after 2 weeks, it started idling rough and went dead in our drive. we thought it was bad gas as we had just filled up and headed to auto store for some heet or seafoam to clear it up. cherokee died in the middle of street as we coasted to stop at red light. we were scared for our lives as we were almost hit in the intersection. the check engine light came on along with message to place in park, restart, then select desired gear. we placed in park, restarted, and selected drive. vehicle went dead again. same message appeared then we received service transmission message. while in full panic mode, we finally started vehicle, then it loudly lunged into gear, bouncing in gear while limping with little power steering off street and died in parking lot. we were able to restart vehicle and limped the half-mile back home at approximately 10 mph. i had vehicle towed to place of purchase and are currently awaiting diagnosis from dealer. this vehicle is definitely unsafe and almost caused us to have an accident when it died in the middle of the street without warning. we were almost hit in the intersection. very disappointed in my purchase. i should have known better!

Today's not the first time i've had problems with my 2014 jeep cherokee, but i will say i'ts been the worst! drove my car during the day then all of a sudden during high traffic hours it decides to jerking and shake while pulling to a red light so i pull into my local wal-mart to see if it was something with my battery because the light came on but the guy said everything was fine so i tried driving more and the car jerked so hard i thought someone hit my car but no one had . while car was in high speeds it started decelerating while on busy roads nearly causing multiple accidents. while driving it loses power giving me a message saying service transmission, battery light and engine light comes on, and while in motion the prnd the d would blink constantly

Shakes violently at 3mph

Zf 9-speed automatic transmission: delayed shifting, lurching, banging, and jumping movements during acceleration in lower gears, especially at take off from a full stop, and merging in first 3-4 gears. this has been an issue since i bought the car in 07/2014; i complain every time i have the vehicle at the dealership, but no one has a fix, and tell me that it's how this transmission is. i have received 3 computer updates to the transmission that brought no improvement. due to the known problem, my vehicle is now worth less, as the company has no fix for a faulty powertrain. while i regularly have issues with this, recently it has become worse, and has brought me very close to two major accidents in the last two weeks. the road my house is on attaches to a 55mph county highway (2 lane, undivided). i was stopped waiting to turn right, and when an opening came up, i went to take off, but as the car entered the highway, the transmission lurched, would not shift, and i lost the power to accelerate. the vehicle coming up behind me, on the highway, was able to slam on his breaks, and use the lane for oncoming traffic to avoid hitting me. i wasn't even able to get enough power to move to the shoulder! this almost caused a multi vehicle crash, and if there had of been oncoming traffic, it would have been. a few days later i experienced a very similar event when trying to merge onto a 100mph highways from a sharp/slow ramp with a short merge lane. i exited the ramp, and entered the short merge lane at 45mph, when i went to accelerate and merge onto traffic the transmission banged, lurched, and the car wouldn't accelerate. i was unable to merge, and had to drive into the ditch. luckily, i was able to drive back out. i'm afraid to drive this car, but the value has decreased so badly, that i can't afford to take the loss on a sale right now. this car is going to kill my family

Transmission fails constantly, while driving! very dangerous and jeep doesn't know how to fix this safety issue. my jeep has only 31,600 miles!

9 speed transmission issues. received recall s 55 dealer only performed tcm update even though i stated check engine light came on. vehicle went into 3rd gear at 60 mph and we almost got rear-ended on freeway. called chrysler customer service and they will do nothing. was driving on i 75 at posted limit of 75 mph when vehicle check engine light came on and speedo went blank and message came up " service transmission" this has happened 4 times and will never set a code. check engine light will go out before i can get to dealer. i will not drive vehicle.... i fear for my life

I bought the car brand new. in the 2 and half years i've had it, the transmission has failed more times than i can count. usually it fails while i'm in traffic and my car just suddenly looses power accompanied with loud banging noises and a "service transmission" warning indicator is shown. most of the time i can regain power by cycling the ignition, but sometimes cannot. it has been to the dealer service dozens of times for this problem. a few times they are able to reproduce the problem and have replaced parts and updated the computer code. the latest service appointment to fix this problem was in march 2017. the dealer claimed to have found the problems that they fixed before returning the car to me after several days. but the problem continues. yesterday (may 2, 2017) i was on the highway going the speed limit of 70 mph in moderate traffic when the problem suddenly occurred again. i was nearly struck by several other cars because no one expected me to stop in the middle of a 3 lane high-speed highway and there was no way for me to coast by the semi-trucks to my right or the cars to my left. after cycling the ignition, the warning message cleared and the car returned to an drivable state so i was able to drive to a safe location and check my car. as it has so many times before, i could not reproduce the problem at that time and the car seemed fine once again. we have called jeep directly on this too. they can see the cars record of the transmission service repairs, but otherwise they are not helpful.

Approximately 1 week upon receiving my trailhawk i began having trouble with the transmission jerking when i would accelerate. i took my vehicle back to the dealer but they said nothing was wrong with the vehicle. since that date i have returned the vehicle on the following dates for the same issue: 08/03/2015san marcos jeep service 2990 s. ih 35, san marcos, texas 78666'customer states jerks when putting in drive and shifts real hard'exhibit b 9/14/2016san marcos jeep service 2990 s. ih 35, san marcos, texas 78666'customer states transmission or vehicle lags when turning into traffic'exhibit c 11/23/2016san marcos jeep service 2990 s. ih 35, san marcos, texas 78666'customer states service transmission light has come on will not go into gear'exhibit d 4/23/2017allen samuels dodge chrysler jeep ram 201 w loop 340 a, waco, tx 76712'customer states service transmission light has come on will not go into gear' please be advised on or about 11/23/2016 as i was traveling with my two year old son, the vehicle shut down in the middle of a busy intersection where the other vehicles were traveling at 50 mph. the 'shift gear to park' and 'service transmission' lights came on. i was stranded, alone with my son, in the middle of the road. with fear of being rear-ended, i had to put my hazards on and exit the vehicle with my toddler in tow. i contacted my aaa and they were able to tow the vehicle to the nearest jeep dealer for inspection and repair. the jeep dealer had my vehicle for 13 days while it made the necessary repairs. once again, i was alone with my son on april 23, 2017 when the vehicle failed to work safely/correctly in a busy intersection. the trailhawk gives no warning that this is about to happen. the vehicle had the same lights come on and refused to move forward.

Jeep recall as i was exiting off the freeway, i suddenly noticed a delayed response when stepping on the gas petal to accelerate a bit in order to get to the far right lane. when i released my foot from the gas pedal, the car sounded like it had shut down and the lights inside he vehicle had all shut down as well. the car was still rolling but it was no longer turned on. i quickly tried to turn the key to try to turn the car back on, and stepped on the gas pedal to give it go ahead, but nothing happened. luckily i was able to get to the far right lane and was somewhat out of the traffics way. since the , the car has not been driven, due to safety issues i am not too sure about. unknown. just two days ago, i had the jeep towed to the nearest jeep dealership but it will not be serviced or attended to until a week from now. i work two jobs which are both located at least 15 miles away from my home and not having a vehicle to get to work has put a huge burden on my whole lifestyle and daily routine of obligations. needless to say, the financial burden has created nothing but bitterness towards the manufacture of my jeep. i would like for this nightmare to end and not reoccur again because i won't be able to stay calm and patient next time. if we could at least be provided with a loaner car for unpredicted incidences like this then maybe we could manage and tolerate a bit more. but i can't believe we still have to pay out more money we shouldn't have to be giving. this is the manufactures responsibility to take care of its consumers and to public safety.

Service transmission warning and check engine: vehicle moving uphill, auto transmission shifts to lower gear; transmission begins to slip and ability to maintain speed drops; happened in middle lane of interstate; managed to exit interstate and park; very little power to move vehicle; safely parked and turned off engine. waited 2 - 4 minutes; restarted engine; service transmission warning off; check engine "on". vehicle operated normal; check engine light went off later; had loosened gas cap and retightened to see if check engine light would go out - it didn't have an immediate effect on the light. had to maneuver behind 18 wheeler and crawl speed up the exit ramp. ended up cross ways in a side road for a few minutes while the transmission 'feathered' vehicle to safe spot. no collision this time. vehicle has been in shop for similar complaint one month earlier.and more times previously

There is an intermittent issue with the transmission on this vehicle. at times, when pressing the accelerator from a stop, the engine will rev but the transmission will not engage for a second or so. when it finally does engage, the tires screech and then the car goes. this is very dangerous - especially when making a left turn or other times when pulling out into traffic. many complaints shown on this website: http://www. carcomplaints.com/jeep/cherokee/2014/transmission/shifting_roughly.shtml jeep repair says that they can't recreate circumstances and chrysler has no solution for this type of problem. with so many complaints, this is a dangerous vehicle.

Transmission is very jerky. i'm afraid of this vehicle. it shifts great one time and then doesn't shift the next time. sometimes very sluggish, like i'm in neutral for a few seconds.t

While driving in the past week and a half the vehicle has turned off on me 5 times. the first 3 times i was driving on the street luckily i was able to coast to the side 2 of the times, not so lucky the other as i was stuck in a roundabout. the last two times occurred back to back on sunday march 19, 2017 once i pulled out of my parking spot. i have photos of what happens. monday march 21, 2017 the transmission light came on. i have not tried to drive it yet, but i will be taking it to the jeep dealership here in elk grove, ca. i tried to take the pictures as soon as it happened. vehicle did not turn off the day of the transmission light. also on friday march 18, 2017 i was completely locked out of the vehicle, my key fob did not work and i was unable to get into the car. it finally unlocked an hour after i was stuck outside of my gym at 1am in the morning.

Two issues with my car, first the transmission failed while driving 70 mph. the car messaged "service transmission immediately" and began to decelerate. i had no control of this process. the abs light came on and luckily i made it off the road. secondly and independently the brakes make a loud grinding noise when the abs is engaged. the dealer was perplexed by both issues. cannot tell me what is wrong and assures me my car is acting normally.

Vehicle will randomly die while driving. we have taken the vehicle to our dealership seven times in the three years we have owned it. the dealership claims the the issue is due to needing an oil change but the oil is less than 4000 miles old.

When vehicle was in drive but at a stopped motion with foot on break the car would want to jump forward. on the highway while driving the car would lose power then slip back into gear when trying to accelerate. finally the car sent error message while driving and would not be 4x4 capable would only shift to certain gears and the power steering stopped working. i just had the car serviced recently and at that time the dealership did a computer upgrade on the transmission system. this is the second issue to occur like this with the transmission with the vehicle since purchased in 2014.

9 speed transmission issue - (original complaint #10916811) - once again i'm having issues with my 2014 jeep cherokee - after having the computer updated twice in the first two years of ownership and transmission cooler replaced in october of last year(2016) i was told the forward drive issue and hard starts were resolved. as of march 6th of 2017 the engine light is on again and the forward drive issue is back. long pauses in forward momentum and hard shifts. please review this case immediately and offer some sort of guidance on this continued issue. will jeep ever be held accountable for this sub-standard transmission and how many people will need to be injured before they are. the highway safety board needs to take a stand against this product and force chrysler/fiat to act responsibly in this situation. loss of forward power on the highway puts lives in danger. fix this issue fiat!

When i push the gas pedal to accelerate the vehicle does not speed up for some time, i can have the gas pedal pushed to the floor and there is a very long lag time for the car to speed up and switch gears, it is extremely dangerous, i have put in reverse several times to back out of my garage and the car will not go in reverse, the entire car thumps back and forth and hesitates and takes some time to get in gear, my radio has stopped working twice, touch screen blacked out recently while in motion, when attempting to pass a car i can not safely get my speed up, its a real lemon and dangerous, i am waiting to get rear ended, pushing on gas pedal and engine revs up real loud but car does not accelerate like a normal car would, purchased 7 month ago and seems to be having more issues every day, was in a drive through with car on, foot on brake, and car in drive and took foot off brake and hit gas pedal and car did not go like it was in neutral, i had to put in park, turn off and turn on again to put in drive, this vehicle is not safe, will take it in for recall repair tomorrow and if not repairable will be traded, do not purchase, looks nice but terrible transmission
