Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Vehicle once again went into neutral while driving down the highway. all the service lights came on. vehicle rolled to a stop and said transmission needs service.

When accelerating from a stoplight the service transmission light came on the car seemed to lose the ability to accelerate properly. it reset itself once we came to a complete stop. then within the next few miles, it did it again, the same scenario. then it did it an again the third time and it would not accelerate so we had to pull off to the side of the road and put it in park. it was dangerous because we were in a very busy intersection the third time. it has done it several other occasions and the only way we can get keep it from doing that again is to drive in manual mode.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the transmission gears slipped without warning when the vehicle was started. while the vehicle was idling at a stop, a warning indicator near the gear box indicated that the gear was shifted when it really was not. in addition, the vehicle randomly stalled several times intermittently. the contact was uncertain if the failure was related to nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train). the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. a dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available. *tt*jb

The vehicle was in motion at an intersection. loss of motor power occurred. the jeep would not shift into park, drive or reverse. the ptu failed as well as the output shaft. it now requires a new transmission that chrylser is refusing to fix.

Transmission not shifting, lurching, and revving. vehicle has problems regularly with shifting at appropriate times. sometimes lurching forward and sometimes not shifting when speeding up. happens regularly.

Our teenage boys were traveling at a safe speed, did not hit a pothole or other object, and did not swerve when the right front axle snapped. this directed them into a telephone pole and then they proceeded to skid approximately sixty feet down a road. this incident happened on a well paved road in the pocono mountains, pa. although a winding road the axle snapped during a straight portion.

Vehicle will randomly shut off while in motion. this happened today 7/26/18 and 2 other times this past month. no check engine lights or other warnings. after shutting off nothing on the vehicle works not even hazard lamps.

Had my jeep in thursday last week due to shifting to neutral on highway. they did two software updates said it should be fixed. was on highway last night and it shifted again into neutral. this appears to be the same issue as the recall,s55/nhtsa 16v-529 from 2016, but it is not fixed properly which can cause lack of forward motion and accidents. have to again take it back to the jeep dealer and fight to even get it looked at.

Have been having problems since march, 2015 with the new 9-speed zf automatic transmission dropping out of gear into neutral, not shifting while travelling at highway speed, low speeds, etc. have taken it to farrish, cjd in fairfax, virginia, hoover cjd in summerville, sc and rick hendricks cjd in north charleson, sc. all were "unable to duplicate" the shifting problem. according to my maintenance records, the 'wiring harness recall' was accomplished on july 12, 2016. since that time, the transmission has had the same issues at least once each week, sometimes multiple times. following are the latest problems i've recently had: 1. friday, june 29th'when i1st cranked, service transmission came on in the heads-up display and the jeep wouldn't go into reverse. 2. monday, jul 2, '18 ' while driving, car shifted into neutral while driving and would not go into gear. 3. friday, jul 20th, '18' service transmission came on in hud while driving at 25 to 30 mph. jeep wouldn't shift to higher gear. jeep travels but never shifts and rpms increased to over 3000. stopped car at my destination, cut it off and allowed it to reset, and worked fine on my drive home. 4. friday, jul 20th-while driving in north charleston, service transmission came on in hud and the jeep felt like it shifted into neutral. no power! jeep went from 2400 rpms to close to 1000 rpms. floored accelerator and had no power and jeep would barely move. 5. monday, jul 23, 18-while driving 25 to 30 mph, service transmission came on the hud and jeep wouldn't shift to higher gear. rpms increased but it wouldn't shift to the next gear. from a stop, it appeared to shift out of first but wouldn't shift into the next gear. i have videos of the above multiple incidents.

When the vehicle was in motion, i was on a city street, the vehicle randomly stalled while driving 10mph. the dash screen stated, "place in 'p' then select gear." i then placed the car in park and tried turning the ignition but it did not start. i had to get a stranger to jump start my car and eventually the car started. this happened a few months ago and since then this has happened twice. the second time this happened, vehicle was in motion while pulling into a gas station on a city street and it randomly stalled. i turned the ignition and it started up. this is extremely dangerous and thankfully on both occasions there has been no car driving behind me.

Vehicle died on main road just over 30000 miles said it was the uconnect . turns out after a month and a half of them having it they had to replace the transmission. ruff shifts over accelerates. suspension right after that. died on the highway going 55!!! semi truck almost killed my family. took dealership over a week to even look at it said it was a sensor. died again 4wheel drive light came on. said it was a module. now they say its the rear differential and its on back order and can take up to 2 weeks. this vehicle is not safe. transmission constantly goes out. afraid my family will get hurt

Today, 7/19/18, i was driving and my jeep seized in the middle of the road nd service transmission error. thankfully, i was not hit and was able to manually shift out to get the tranny to work again. this was part of recall # nhtsa 16v-529, issued in 2016. i had the recall fixed on july 12,2016. te fix is not correcting this issue putting people' lives at risk. having your car seize in the middle of a highway is not only dangerous to me, but to other drivers as it could have caused a massive pileup. jeep needs to issue a permanent correction jeep also will not provide a loaner or any options so i am without a vehicle i paid a lot of moeny for. .

Transmission issue causing a serious safety issue. while braking the vehicle has an acceleration surge. it also does this while coasting and the transmission goes into a downshift. there are also issues with it shifting in several gears. there is a check engine light on u0402. chrysler dealership tried to program the tcm twice and the light comes right back on.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 30 mph, the transmission failed. the contact stated that the gear shifted from first to second gear without warning. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent. rick hendrick jeep chrysler dodge ram fiat (8333 rivers ave, north charleston, south carolina 29406) was made aware of the failure, but could not duplicate it or determine its source. the vehicle was not repaired by the dealer. the contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train) in july of 2016, according to the manufacturer's records. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with case number: 34624845. the failure mileage was unknown. *tr

After coming to a stop and then attempting to accelerate the vehicle hesitates and will not respond even if you press the accelerator pedal further, then it will bang into gear and lurch forward. the safety issue is that you can not time pulling into traffic properly because you can not predict if you will have power available or not and then the bang can move you into oncoming traffic unexpectedly.

My jeep in currently being serviced for the third time, same problem. my jeep will stop on the highway, at highway speeds, transmission goes to neutral, engine idles. you stop the car, shift to park and turn the engine off, then you can start it up, all the dash board lights are lit and when you shift to drive it bangs. this same scenario has happened over 20 times.

2014 jeep cherokee limited v-6. transmission hesitates when starting from a full stop, then jerks hard into gear. doing this when pulling into traffic is very dangerous as the car moves slowly until the gears kick in. also hesitates when going from reverse to drive, as when backing out of a driveway into traffic. as i write this my cherokee has been at the dealership for two days while they are replacing the valve body to attempt to repair. i say attempt, because this is a well known problem with what i've read, very few if any real fix? wondering why there hasn't been a recall on this problem after years of complaints! this problem happens when in motion, and on city streets or highways.

Car flashes service transmission warning and lose power while in motion. this has happened several times, have to coast to a stop, turn off the car and restart to regain power. so far i have been lucky it has not been in a high traffic or highway situation. prior to the in motion issue the other times i was stationary (stop light) that the issue occured and required a restart but those errors did not register a check engine condition. i have had it to the dealer and they pefromed a software update which was supposed to correct this issue. bringing it back to service again to be looked at.

Transmission jerked and then serivers transmission soon waring can on the dash along with the check engine light. vehicle then went into low power mode and did not have any response from the gas pedal. vehicle runs but has reduced power. transmission was replaced in september if 2016.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds with the cruise control engaged, the battery warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle seized. the contact also stated that 'put vehicle in gear to maneuver' was displayed. the vehicle was turned off and on several times before it was able to maneuver again. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who could not duplicate the failures. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 71,000. the vin was not available.

While driving home on the freeway during busy memorial weekend doing 70mph, my car stalled. i had to safely go to shoulder of freeway. service transmission message and service light was on. i waited 5 minutes and it started up. i could have gotten in a serious accident with my engine shutting down. i took it to dealer who stated it was a defective valve body. i sure hope this never happens again. i have a 3.2 v6 9 speed transmission with 22,500 miles.

While driving on freeway around 70mph, the transmission warning light along with other warning lights came on and the engine immediately lost power along with losing power steering. was barely able to get off freeway. was able to drive home on city street with transmission acting like stuck in one gear. this car needs to be recalled immediately before someone gets killed or seriously injured. i've read of hundreds of complaints with this vehicle and it's a matter of time before something tragic happens to a family. jeep knows there is a problem with this particular nine speed transmission and needs to be forced into taking action.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that after the vehicle was parked, the shift selector was placed in the park position however, a message on the display stated to shift to desired gear. the vehicle failed to go into park. the vehicle was taken to brooklyn chrysler jeep dodge ram located at 2286 flatbush ave, brooklyn, ny 11234, (718) 713-3000, to be diagnosed. the contact was informed the failure was due to an issue with the transmission. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v240000 (power train). the manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

Transmission is jerking when shifting especially from a stop to go. lately it's also been jerking forward when coming to a stop/breaking it basically feels like your being pushed forward. have had to the dealer a few times to be told nothing is wrong. have had computer updated. i honestly do not feel safe in this vehicle any longer. it's been an ongoing problem but have noticed more so that last few days.

While moving the car suddenly acts as if in neutral even though indicator shows in drive. the engine runs but the car no longer has power. car must be stopped and placed in park before the transmission will again engage. "check transmission" errors are displayed. this has always happened on city streets at low speeds. i worry abt driving on the highway. this has happened three times in the 25 k miles i have put on the car. taking it back to the dealer results in them telling me nothing is wrong with the car - the transmission just lost communication with the and transmission. they reset the computer errors and the car runs normally. my brother has similar problems with his jeep and was told he needed transmission fluid changes. i do not know exact dates this has happened but can obtain from local dodge dealer. this usually occurs when slowing for a turn or stopping at stop lights or stop signs.

Going in for it second transmission replacement . they keep failing while driving

Car shut off then cranked back up began to drive car showed 80 mph only going 45 car running sluggish and engine revving up car then showed service transmission and shut off now service light is on only owned the car for a week seen lots of issues online with this same problem have kids and feel this is unsafe to drive dealer is looking at vehicle tomm.

Transmission is performing strangely. at low speeds it stalls and cannot move. warning lites illuminate and says to place vehicle in gear, vehicle must be stopped, shut down and re-started. several times "service shifter" lite is illuminated and has been to dealer, they continue to re-program and check re-calls. vehicle may be unsafe to drive. dealer says tcm is needing re-programming. this stalling and tranny re-programming has happened on two occasions. sometimes tranny lags on acceleration. vehicle usually in motion at low speed or during intial take off from dead stop. sometimes gear selector will not function properly when warning lites illuminate. in 2018 it has been taken to plant jeep; flagstaff az, lawley jeep; silvercity nm, and horne; globe az. recall s55 wire harness not installed.

My jeep when i take the key out it dings saying the key is in the egnition when its not it wont let me lock my doors and now today it wont even start my jeep it dont even turn on. and when going down the road the transmission keeps trying to take off to hard or husitates to go

Noticed transmission slips occasionally when i shift from park to drive and begin to accelerate.

This vehicle has been shifting hard, has delayed shifting and downshifting, has at times stalled while idling and shown an error message to shift to p and then to desired gear, requiring me to restart the car. i have taken it to the local dealership and they have performed software updates, but the shifting problem is still occurring. in recent months, i have had two occurrences of filling the gas tank and then the car runs very roughly for a short time. on the second occurrence, the car also died while idling and showed the error message already mentioned.

Vehicle pauseses between shifts and shifts into neutral on higjway.

After filling up vehicle with gas (2 separate occurrences), the vehicle will cut-off while driving for 1-2 blocks. a prompt on the dashboard would state "place gear into park" and a restart of vehicle would be necessary. first occurrence happen in 2/19/2018 and 3/28/2018. when first occurrence happened, the vehicle was dropped off at dealership and was instructed by service department the vehicle needed to be "flashed or reprogrammed" to resolve issue. since then, the second occurrence happened recently 3/28/2018 and it needed to be towed to dealership for another inspection/diagnostic. it was then mentioned by service department, the reason for cut-off issue. the vehicle was low on oil (1 quart less). major concern with vehicle not being trusted worthy while driving and possible accident may happen because of issue. also being told 2 different reasons why issue happened.

When parking my car and driving into the space suddenly i had an engine surge. it happened so suddenly. i tried to park it yet again and the same thing happened. this time i received damage to my vehicle when it was stopped by a large light pole. i called triple a and had it brought to the dealership. they put new brakes on the car. i felt secure . the third time i was slowing down due to vehicles in front of me. suddenly the car surged again. i pulled out of my lane quickly so i would not hit the cars in front of me. now i was in the oncoming lane. i saw a car horizontal to my car. brakes did nothing to stop me. i hit her car. it happened so fast. luckily, the passenger was shaken up and taken to the hospital. this happened on a city st. the vehicle was in the process of turning into the library when the accident happened.

Sitting at red light-service transmission light went on asking me to put car in park..transmission was not engaged, i would say it was in neutral, i put car in park and back to drive..did not engage..put back in park and turned car off..restarted and put in drive..engaged but very loud engagement and shook car, still saying transmission needs service..took to dealer and they said it needed refreshed..has been to dealer several times for similar issue..other times transmission disengaged while on freeway..dealer refreshed and working ok at this time

The transmission is jerking when it shifts sometimes. it is not a smooth shift especially when shifting to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, &4th. the techs say nothing is wrong, but its not right. sometimes it shifts late too. i have also had the car jerk forward when im coming to a stop and its downshifting. it actually pushed my car forward as i was pushing on the breaks to slow down for a stoplight.

While driving the transmission service light came on as well as the engine light and began to de celerate to come to a stop.

Transmission not shifting properly. from stop the "d" for drive blinks and it wont go into gear. happened twice. car lunges and kicks when shifting with possibility of going out at speed.

I bought my car in march 2014, since that time my vehicle has been in the shop 7 times for the same thing. i have been to 3 different dealerships since my car is still under warranty and continue to have the same problem. yesterday on my way home on a major freeway my car put it self in park and shut off this happened several more times until i pulled over somewhere safe to get it towed. i have 2 small children and feel the vehicle is very unsafe to drive i have contacted chrysler as well regarding this matter. i would like to know when it becomes a concern for people and there families for someone to take action. the dealer ship refused to work with me and put me in a safer vehicle because i am now upside done on this vehicle. so they wanted me to make a 900.00 dollar payment. this to me seems that the dealership and chrysler are more concerned with making profit and sales then they are keeping their customs safe. i hope someone opens their eyes to these types of situations. i called the national highway traffic and safety to report this and the lady on the other end of the line had no concern with dealing with it i asked to speak to a manager and was sent to a voice mail. good to know that we have these guys watching on backs when it comes to the safety of families.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 30 mph, after the vehicle had been refueled, the electronic emergency brake erroneously activated. as a result, the vehicle came to an abrupt stop. during the failure, the "put into park to switch gear" message displayed; however, the transmission shifter would only shift to the park position. in addition, the check engine and transmission service indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the local dealer (burk auto group jeep, 1565 west ogden ave., naperville, illinois) where it was diagnosed that the evaporator control canister was faulty. the evaporator control canister was replaced and the purge control was reprogrammed, but the failure persisted. the contact indicated that the failures occurred only after the fuel tank was filled. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 47,000. *tt *tr

Wife was driving vehicle on highway at night, "service transmission" light went on asking her to "put car in park"...she pulled off road and car slipped out of gear at stop sign, where she had to turn engine off and restart. she was able to drive car home with check engine light on. car is currently with johnson jeep in washington, nj. no contact from them as of yet to issue/repair. i was unaware of recall at time of purchase. i have concerns about safety of vehicle.

Shifting into nuetral by itself while in motion under 25 mph

Shifting is jerky and or delayed in first 3 gears mostly. appears to be random. it might delay while shifting for a second and then engage with so much force that it [xxx] near gives you whiplash........seams unsafe and even my 1962 rambler shifts smoother. there is no way this is (normal) as the manufacturer states. parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 55 mph, the speed suddenly reduced and the instrument panel gauges flashed off and on before resetting. after turning the vehicle off and later attempting to restart it, the engine revved very high before the check engine indicator illuminated; however, the vehicle failed to move. also, while driving in reverse, the transmission would sometimes erroneously switch to neutral. the vehicle was towed to the local dealer (oxmoor chrysler, 4520 shelbyville rd, louisville, kentucky), but the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 10,000.

While driving about 60 mph the car lost all acceleration and slowed very quickly, the engine light came on and the assist emergency brake light came on ( i think that was what it said. as i pulled to the road side there was little no rpms . i shut the car off and waited , restarted and still no rpms. i disconnected the battery after googling the problem and restarted and lights where all gone . this was great for about 4 days and maybe 300 miles and again it happened . this time i had my cade reader and received a p1dcd code, i did not clear code but shut engine down and restarted. the car ran with rpms ok but was a bit sluggish . i called dealer when i got home and they said i would have to pay for them to do a diognostic test to figure what the problem is. i drive my kids in the mornings and feel this could lead to a serious accident . i dont feel safe driving it myself let alone my children with me.

While driving down the highway the vehicle lost power, the messages "service parking break" and "service transmission" appeared in the dash, the check engine light came on, and the emergency break light blinked on and then off. the car did not respond to pressing on the gas pedal, fortunately i was able glide off the highway and into a parking lot. i turned off the car, when i restarted it the message "service transmission" appeared along with the check engine light. i was able to put the car into gear and drive but the power was greatly reduced and it stayed in a lower gear.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving unknown speeds in july of 2017, the vehicle stalled and the service transmission and check engine indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to a local dealer (darcars chrysler dodge jeep ram of rockville, 755 rockville pike, rockville, md 20852), but they were unable to duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. while driving 45 mph, the accelerator pedal was applied, but failed to respond and the vehicle stalled. the service transmission and check engine indicators illuminated again. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 40,729. *tt *tr
