We have classified the 227 complaints from 2014 Jeep Cherokee about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
On 09th july 2014, i bought a jeep cherokee 2014 at united cars al mana airport showroom qatar. unfortunately, the product jeep cherokee is not usable according to the following: on friday 14th november 2014 07:00 pm, the car completely shut down without any prior warning or alert messages, dashboard shows (smart key failure, steering columns is not locked as stated on the repair order), despite several attempts to contact mopar road assistance, but the number given was wrong. after many trails i delivered the vehicle to the services at 11:30 pm. two days later i got a phone call from service consultant stating that the car is ready for pick up; repair report indicated that the battery was faulty and has been changed. on 29th november 2014, the car breakdown and every single warning message have been appeared on the dashboard, then, i delivered the car by breakdown on a trailer. the warning message was ?transmission services?, the repair report stated that the dynamo has been changed only. on 7th december, 2014 exactly the same thing has happened with small change that time, the car delivered to me by extra error ?transmission performance failure?. recently the complications begun to increase rapidly, i delivered the car for the fourth time to services. ? on 31st january, 2015 i delivered the car to the services by transmission problem. ? on 02nd february, 2015, i received same phone call, one day later the car completely stopped in the middle of the road. on 7th february, 2015, i met the service manager and he promised to solve the transmission issues as they received bulletin by the faulty part from chrysler usa because it's a known problem. on 09th february, 2015, i received a call from their engineer asking me to go to dealers workshop because new software just received. the car was delivered on saturday 14th february, 2015.
Second incident for this car. first incident was 10.18.14. i was parking car at a restaurant. while edging near ending point of parking space, park sense suddenly disabled and would not enable. immediately therefore, a series of icons appeared on the dashboard in this order: 1) red lightening bolt for the etc, 2) front end collision light like i had a wreck, 3) engine light, 4) traction light. the power steering appeared very stiff. car was still running. drove car out of parking space and it would not accelerate; it moved at a very slow pace like it was stuck in molasses or quick sand. placed car in park and turned off ignition. while shifting from d to p, the shift was so violent it shook the entire car and i could hear grinding. let car rest for 60-90 seconds. turned car back on and only the engine light remained lit. power steering was not stiff. drove car to dealership the next morning. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the windshield wiper activated independently prior to starting the vehicle. as a result, the lights on the instrument panel would start flashing and the vehicle would fail to function. in addition, the cable detached from the battery shutting the vehicle off. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v509000 (visibility) and stated that the part needed for the repair was not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 33,000. part distribution disconnect. updated 03/10/16*lj *cn
2014 jeep cherokee wrangler 2.4l 4wd. vehicle shuts down completely during driving operation. this has happened off and on since last fall (2014). happens multiple times during commute, including when engine is first warming up and when vehicle has travelled for some distance. some days it does not occur at all. engine temperature seems to have no relation to incidents. speed has no relation as it has occurred at 5mph up to 65mph. ambient temperature has no relationship as the temp has varied from 0 to 80 degrees f. took to chrysler dealership shop on 12/30/14 - chrysler dealership shop did not find cause but did update bcm based on tsb. problem continues to occur. 5/20/15 - 2015 jeep cherokee back in shop for same issue.
On the above date while traveling to work my wife called me and informed that her vehicle had lost power during operation on a busy highway. upon further explanation she informed me while accelerating to the proper speed for the posted speed limit of 55mph the vehicle had lost power and the "service transmission" light illuminated. she then pulled off the busy road to a safe a spot and proceeded to contact our insurance and the local jeep/chrysler dealership, as we are currently under warranty. once i arrived to my wife's location we waited for the tow truck and upon his arrival he asked if the vehicle could be driven, at this time i turned on the vehicle and placed it in drive, the "service transmission" light was still on. i was able to drive in approximately 3 miles to the dealership all awhile being followed by the tow truck and without incident. *tr
Purchased a 2014 cherokee trailhawk with 0 miles on oct 25. at 200 miles, and 48 hours later i took it onto the beach. as soon as it got into the sand, it dropped to 2nd gear and rpms shot up to just over 3000. car would not shift out of second. temp went up to 230. later on all computers in car started to flash like white noise. brought it back to the dealer and was given a variety of excuses. bad abs sensor, loose fuse etc. went to pick the car up from the dealer after hours when they were closed. as soon as i turned it on, flashing white noise on all the screens.i also took it on the beach a day or two later, and again car wouldn't shift out of second gear on the beach. the car now began to shift very erratically. it would up shift very fast accelerate when my foot was not on the gas. when coming to a stop it would down shift so hard. when i brought the car back to the dealer, (now with 700 miles on it) they told me they were replacing the entire transmission. they have had the car for 3 weeks total. finally picked up the car last week.when i got into the car the odometer ready 6000 miles! i dropped it off with 700.i told him for the 3rd time that i did not want it. i have also been dealing with a jeep resolution team from chrysler.its been a week, the car is shifting more erratic than it has since the new transmission. the sunroof leaks water, the windshield is constantly fogged and looks like there is a clear coat that may have gotten on the car that makes it impossible to see when driving. also, when i turn the floor heat on, the front defroster comes on.chrysler contacted me on friday, and my jeep has officially been deemed a lemon, and i am entitled to a replacement. i don't want a replacement. i want a full refund and to head over to the toyota dealer. *tr
While parking the vehicle, the parksense feature disabled on its own. immediately thereafter, the red lightning bolt indicator light appeared on the dash, which has been known to be associated with the electronic throttle control, glow plugs, swirl motor failure (low pressure in rail or fuel rail pressure malfunction) and also speed sensors. the vehicle then revved up on its own without acceleration while my foot was positioned firmly on the brake pedal. immediately following that, the word "transmission" appeared on the dash, then the check engine light, then the collision indicator as if a car crash had occurred, which it had not. finally, the power steering became very stiff. drove the vehicle to the dealership it was purchased from and they said the codes were unknown like hieroglyphics. left vehicle there. the following monday the dealership informed me there were 3 software upgrades that were needed on the vehicle, however, those upgrades did not correct the problem. technician also informed me the car was not safe to drive and they didn't feel safe driving it themselves and got off of the highway during a test run. the technician further explained the vehicle had 3 test runs and failed all 3 and it was beyond their expertise so chrysler engineers would be consulted this week. lastly, the technician informed me i "may be ahead of a recall issue." the car is 5 and half months old. i ordered the car, meaning, i had it made/built from the manufacturer. it was not a car purchased from the lot. therefore, no other drivers of the car and it is brand new. it is a safety concern, especially since the cherokee has been out of production for many years until the 2014 release. as a side note, i remember an incident that occurred the week prior when the vehicle had difficulty shifting gears (automatic transmission). instead it stalled and revved on its own. *tr
At freeway speed of 65, the vehicle suddenly had no power, went into neutral, and "service transmission" warning came on. upon trying to accelerate to pull to the shoulder, the engine would simply rev rpms but provided no power, even after trying to shift between neutral and drive. after getting to the side of the road, the vehicle was shut off and turned back on, at which time the service transmission light was still on, but the vehicle worked again. the dealer replaced the entire transmission under warranty but provided no explanation of why it suddenly lost all power on the freeway and could have easily caused a wreck when trying to get over several lanes on a busy freeway. *tr
Traveling to work touched the command button on the steering wheel at that very moment the radio, screen, bluetooth, uconnect system lost power. the radio shut off and the center screen that controls many safety features of the car went blank and would not come back on. i had to call the dealership and they took it in immediately to resolve the issues. i have had the car two months put about 1,200 miles on the car and it has been back at jeep several times with issues/recalls. *tr
Was stopped at a red light in an intersection when my instrument cluster/screen lit up with the following: cel on abs/brake lights on service parking brake on 4x4 system disabled odometer flashing upon all those messages/lights coming on we lost all power steering control to the vehicle. speedometer was not functioning while attempting to move the vehicle out of the interaction into a nearby parking lot. once safely parked in the parking lot we turned off the car and turned it back on again to the same messages/lights turning on. we regained power steering after we turned it off and back on but all other issues persisted. called for a tow back to the dealership. chrysler claimed it was a bad abs module. i am filing a safety complaint for poor electrical design if an abs module has the ability to bring down the entire computer system in the 2014 cherokee this can pose a serious hazard to all vehicle operators. *tr
Similar to what occurred with the other posts, on saturday my car stalled while at a stop sign. disabled, the engine light and the service transmission indicator came on the dashboard. following the advice of some helpful gentlemen, i was able to get the car home. on sunday, i took the car to the dealer and the diagnostic test reportedly stated it was the transmission and then a subsequent call identified the issue as an electrical issue. i picked the repaired car up as directed and then the car stalled. i was almost rear-ended as the car was disabled with the hazard lights. i managed to coast the car into a parking lot by using the advice of the gentlemen and then called the dealer, this is the second time the car abruptly stalled. this time it would not start for me to pull into a parking space. i was asked to drive the car back to the dealer, i refused. after speaking to the general manager of sales, the dealer sent two people to bring the car back and the person driving my car stated it stalled twice but he knew how to get the car going. monday i missed worked, tuesday they provided a rental, today i picked up the car, and tonight i am in a dealer's rental that will need to be exchanged for another rental tomorrow. this has been a taxing experience that is not expected for a car that was purchased new at the end of april. this is my second jeep but from what i am reading, there is something wrong with this car that needs immediate attention. *tr
Just received my third safety recall today...p67. p14, brake booster and p36, sun visor wiring are yet to be fixed. p14 dates back to this fall 2014. i've been on a waiting list since that time. the dealership, patriot chrysler dodge in mountain lake park, md says they cannot get the parts to fix the recalls. is this ridiculous? please advise. *tr
While traveling at night on a highway at 60 mph, i turned my front windshield wipers on due to rain. as soon as the wipers came on, the entire dashboard went black and i was not able to monitor speed or view radio, gps, or other panels. the headlights also dimmed somewhat. as soon as we arrived at our destination, i googled for problems with wipers and found various blogs regarding this problem on 2014 jeep cherokees. the only advice online was to disable the automatic rain sensor. after disabling the automatic rain sensor, the problem was not corrected. i contacted the dealer who advised us to bring it in for a checkup. no repairs were made and i was informed that they would advise me if a recall would be released. *tr
When slowing down from any speed foot off gas pedal vehicle suddenly accelerates. happens at various speeds. even put transmission in neutral coming to stop and it still accelerates on its own. at every stop and corner just takes off. yesterday almost hit the car in front of me. i was stopped and the jeep decided to accelerate. had it at dealer on 9/12/14 for service. jeep did tranny update but did nothing. head of service department said i just needed to drive it to work itself out. i thought he was joking but he was actually serious! going to take jeep back to dealer before it kills me ( not joking).getting worse all the time. *tr
I went to shift vehicle into drive, vehicle would not shift into any gear. turned the vehicle on and off three times, on the third attempt i managed to get in to shift into drive. vehicles transmission service and check engine lights came on stating "service transmission start from park with vehicle at zero speed." when i had shifted through to drive to move the vehicle the transmission made a clunking sound like it had fallen out of the jeep. i drove it 3 miles to my house only going 30 mph. when i got home i attempted to put the vehicle into park and the transmission would not move past neutral. i attempted to remove key 4-5 times and because of this the dash lights had stayed on. i disconnected the battery and had the vehicle towed to the dealership the next day. *tr
two problems came up at around the same time. the car was delivered with the transmission 4 quarts low on fluid. the car was slipping out of gear, lurching and shuddering. the transmission is a sealed unit so there was no way for me to know that. then the dash display went completely dark. no feedback was given, its a digital display. so i had no speedometer, tachometer etc and the warning lights were out. i feel like a vehicle with no dash display that slips out of gear when passing or lurches forward when stopping could be dangerous to other drivers and pedestrians. *tr
I have had numerous problems (5 total) with my 2014 jeep cherokee limited hard shifting into lower gears. the vehicle jerks and bucks randomly and has nearly caused me to have numerous accidents. the vehicle features the zf-designed nine-speed automatic transmission that has known issues with rough shifting. the recall update was performed in early may yet the problem persists. the vehicle randomly pulls forward, normally in stop and go traffic, and is completely unpredictable. chrysler has a total of 5 work orders in their system and is asking me for a 6th time to bring the car in for repairs. each "repair" trip results in a software update to the transmission that ban aids the problem for about a week and then we are right back to square one. i'm very frustrated and am requesting that the vehicle be bought back by chrysler and i be reimbursed for all car payments made in the last year. the vehicle falls under maryland lemon law requirements in that , it has less than 18k miles and is under 24 months old and was purchased new. i am requesting to open a case with national highway traffic safety administration to assist me with this issue. i have an open case number with chrysler of 26719430. any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
I am a nurse and travel for a living. on my way home from assignment in wv. just outside a bowling green on i65. my car jerked then lost all power. engine light, service transmission light and battery lights all came on. i was going 70 miles an hour. i had no acceleration. i coasted to the shoulder, across 3 lanes of interstate. i attempted jeeps emergency number but got the unable to connect voice mail, after 5 minutes my car restarted. i remained on right side of road. 65 miles later and 15 miles from nashville the car jerked and i lost the ability to accelerate once again. i pulled over and the car restarted. i am now in a hotel for the third night and unable to get home. i took my car to jeep this morning to be serviced. i was told a computer malfunction caused the problem. the dealer did not offer to pay for rental car, hotel ect. the new part is supposed to be here tuesday. no i was not killed or involved in a crash however, i can think of several scenarios where i easily could have been in a horrible crash. what if the new module is also bad i asked. it's like my new laptop i was told. sometimes they just break. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled and the check engine, transmission, and several other indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and updated, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the diagnostic results were unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 1,800.
Vehicle shifts from park into reverse without anyone touching the shift lever. vehicle also changes gears occasionally when driving, e.g., shifts from reverse to drive when backing up, or reverse to neutral. reported to dealer immediately in july 2014 (not aware of problem) and chrysler on 9/29/14 and again 9/9/15. we are now vigilant when shifting gears and before initial acceleration. once moving, the jeep stays in the gear selected, e.g., hasn't shifted out of drive while driving down the road. the shift problem is a progression downward, i.e., park to reverse, reverse to neutral, reverse to drive. unfortunately my wife had another and potentially serious incident this weekend when she parked on level ground, placed the jeep in park, left the engine running, got out of the jeep (briefly to check on something), then the vehicle shifted into reverse and started backwards. my wife had to run and jump into the moving jeep to stop it. on this occasion, she wasn't even in the jeep and there were no passengers, so no one touched the shift lever. there was a significant pause (i.e., time to get out of the jeep and start to walk away) before the jeep changed gears. on the occasions when the jeep shifts from reverse to drive, we have been fortunate that no person or object was close to the front of the jeep and the driver was alert and able to stop within the first few feet; we will not always be so lucky. other manifestation of this shifting problem is when shifted to reverse, we watch the indicator say reverse then, after a noticeable pause with no one touching the gear lever, the jeep will shift into neutral or continue into drive. knowing that this is a problem, we watch the shift sequence closely and catch this "slipping out of gear selected" problem to avoid an accident. is this a drive by wire electrical problem?
I was driving on expressway and vehicle slowed down service transmission light came on.also traction control lite ,check engine and another light came on i was able to pull over vehicle would not shift to park.after several minutes i turned engine off .when i restarted vehicle and shifted to park the shifter got rough and jumped to park.since then the jeep has been at the dealer 2 more times for the same problem. got it back on 10/8/14 and feel very unsafe driving it.this is my fourth jeep and i never had a problem with the other ones. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. when driving at any speed, the electronics on the dash board went out. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 14,000. updated 8/10/15*cn the consumer also stated the doors would not unlock, at times. updated 03/01/16*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle vibrated violently and exhibited delayed acceleration. the contact heard an extremely loud noise outside of the vehicle. the failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. the dealer detected a leak in the exhaust and stated that the transmission functioned normally. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 600.. updated 08-20-14 *bf. updated 09/3/2014 *js
This exact scenario happened 4 times between 6/5/14-9/16/14. -- i was driving about 40 mph on the way to work. all of a sudden my car made a chime sound (as if a door was opened) and my car started slowing down, as if i took my foot off the gas. my dash had many lights come on (pretty much all of the sensor lights) and it said "service park break" and "service transmission" my check engine light was on as well. i can assure you my park break was not on! i coasted to the side of the road since pressing on the gas was not helping me move forward. my car never actually shut off on it's own, it just lost power, as if it was in neutral. i shut off the engine, let it sit a minute and started it up again. the same lights were on and it said service transmission. i put the car in drive and heard a clunking sound. the "d" in the shifter was also blinking. i shut the car off again and let it sit a little longer. i tried it again and when i put it in drive there was no clunking sound but when i took my foot off the break i started to roll backwards as if i was in neutral. i live in a rural area so all of this was occurring on a 2 lane road with little to no shoulder at 7:15am, so the traffic was at its heaviest. it was very scary because i had no warning and neither did the cars behind me. my car literally just started to slow out of no where. i was almost rear ended twice because of this. i then decided to have it towed to the dealer. the only difference that happened with the other 3 times, is that i waited long enough for the car to engage once i put it in drive. so i was able to drive myself to the dealer those times. i plan on taking this to jeep/chrysler as well. *tr
This is the second recall that we have had on this vehicle in less than a year. here is the new real information. summary: chrysler group llc (chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 jeep grand cherokee and dodge durango vehicles manufactured from january 5, 2010, through september 8, 2013. the subject vehicles have a brake booster with a center shell that may corrode and allow water to get inside. we called the dealership, and they stated they will check the break booster, but if there is no corrosion, they will not replace it. here is my question. what happens if there isn't any corrosion now when it's checked, but it becomes corroded 6-12 months later? i don't foresee the dealership telling us to come in every month to check it out. so we just have to plug along driving every day unsure if our brakes will work or not. this is ridiculous and majorly unsafe. i believe the dealership should replace the part even if there is no corrosion! period. this is the kind of stuff that leads to major lawsuits after accidents. *tr
Was driving on a 2 lane highway and the jeep lost power, i pulled over to the shoulder and when i reached a complete stop the jeep shutoff. i could not get it the restart. after waiting 10 minutes i finally got the jeep restarted. when it started it released a huge cloud of white smoke from the exhaust pipes. this is the 4th time this has happened. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the vehicle randomly stalled more than five times and was towed to the dealer each time for diagnostic testing and repair. the dealer replaced the transmission and various sensors, but the failure continued to randomly progress. the dealer was unable to provide a repair solution. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and was unable to provide a repair remedy to the dealer. the failure mileage was not available.
Main issue is with the nine speed transmission on our 2014 cherokee. we have had issues with this transmission from the day w bought car. initially there were the bumps, bangs, knocks and hard erratic shifting both up and down shifting. now with 20,000+ miles, and many-many trips to dealer we are still having to deal with a situation in which the transmission has been "flashed" to remove second gear on downshift, thus hanging up in third, and causing vehicle to almost stall out when trying to accelerate from a slow, non-stopping speed. this has created some gut wrenching as well situations. the only way i have found to overcome this problem is to manually shift into second gear - - - and this is supposed to be an automatic transmission. my wife generally uses this car and does not really understand the "manual shifting part". hopefully, she won't get injured or worse in this thing!!! this needs to be fixed!!!!!
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving various speeds, the air bag warning error indicator illuminated intermittently. the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred numerous times. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 5,000.
i was sitting still when the engine stopped running and would not start again. i called roadside assistance and they hauled my vehicle to the dealer.the dealer called tues 4/2/14 and said that it was fixed i picked it up and about 3 mi from the dealer the engine stalled again this time i was traveling about 10 mi per hour coming up on a stop sign i again called roadside assistance and they hauled it back to the dealer. the dealer called in the afternoon and said it is fixed .i hope it is. if i had been traveling a highway speed this could have been a disaster. *tr
Upon acceleration 5mph, multiple warning lights. transmission light, red lightning bolt light, shifting hard, wheel locked up, battery light came on, car died. car is 2 months old. dash flashed red writing, can no shift unless in p before died. i was in the middle of intersection when this happened. hurried to turn car off and turn back on and it drove. seems to do this when the car has sat for a long period of time. shifts hard doesn't accelerate when the problem occurs. dates occurred same problem 3/30, 3/31, 4/1. car is at the dealer for review. they did 3199 pcm software update 3/31/14. same problem occurred 4/1. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the air conditioning unit failed to work properly. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician stated that the refrigerant needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired however, additional failures occurred. the instrument panel failed, the vehicle stalled without warning and the vehicle failed to shift into reverse. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was not available.
When turning on the car the windshield wipers turned. the wipers were not in the on position. the indicator lights were not working and the high beams could not be turned on. this persisted for over 2 hours. *tr
While turning at a stop light the car slipped into neutral. check engine light came on, service transmission message on dash, parking brake light came on and also traction control light. pulled over and restarted car still would not engage into to drive. had to let car sit for 30 minutes then restarted and went back in to drive. made it to dealership but slipped out of gear one more time on the 20 minute drive. the exact thing has happened 2 more times and has now been at the dealership 3 times in 2 weeks. afraid for my safety at this point! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact received notice of nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v634000 (electrical system) and 14v643000 (air bags, seat belts); however, the parts to do the repairs were unavailable. the contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure.
The vehicle lunges after you stop as if it is down shifting. sometimes it bangs and jumps suddenly when taking off from a stop. the transmission seems to have not down shifted and is in too high a gear causing the engine to pause before suddenly downshifting and suddenly accelerating which sometimes it to abrupt and you have to slam on the brakes to keep from hitting traffic. we have had several reprograms of the transmission without any resolution. the last caused the car to suddenly lunge and jump out into traffic while sitting at a stop with the brake on and no gas applied. we could have caused an accident... the motor has started leaking oil from the oil filter and cooler assembly on top of the 3.2 liter v6. it appears it has a bad gasket or seal or it may be cracked. i see several other owners complaining of this be cause you can smell burning oil, we removed the top engine cowl and carry a fire extinguisher just in case it catches fire. it appears that you could easily lose most of the oil and seize the motor not to mention catch on fire. the rear hatch camera and controls malfunction in wet weather. the camera turns to snow or moving objects appear frame by frame and not in real time. the controls fail to allow gate operation. i contacted jeep today and am taking it in for the oil issue and will try to get them to fix the transmission and rear gate issues. this is a danger to drive when it can launch into traffic or leak oil causing a fire or short out the gate from an electrical fire. jeep needs to get these issues addressed.
