Driving on the highway in fast lane during evening commute, my infinity malfunctioned - random engine shutoff. this malfunction disabled all features of vehicle - lights, steering, brakes, airbags, and more. (the previous section only let me select three affected parts) luckily i was able to coast vehicle to a stop on the inside of the highway without causing an accident, being injured myself or worse. had to have vehicle towed from scene. research shows that a variety of infinity vehicles from 2005 to the current year have experienced this same malfunction issue and there seems to have been a recall issued for later years. i contacted infinity regarding this issue and was told that my vehicle not covered. request that nhtsa investigate cause of random shutoff (some sort of fuel sensor) and issue a recall for all infinity years/models to correct this issue. infinity suggests i bring vehicle in for diagnosis but will be subject to hourly rate for diagnosis and replacement parts/repairs.
The vehicle is difficult to refuel. the pump bounces back during refueling and makes it difficult to fuel the car past half full even doing it very slowly. infiniti sent a notification that evaporative emission vapor tube sometimes may get clogged and the symptom is difficulty to refuel. however the dealership says that this is probably a different issue. i found out that infiniti released a service bulletin for another issue relating to refuelling with similar symptom itb08-041a however it is an expensive repair if the vehicle is out of warranty. with so many issues with the fuel system, shouldn't infiniti do a recall to fix the defects with the fuel system. i am attaching both documents for your review.
