Takata recall air bag light remains on door handles inside and outside constantly break off even after being replaced by factory parts leaving occupants trapped in car also replaced camshaft contoller cause wiring is melting. contacted brandon hyundai dealer service dept they told me handles had been already replaced before and refused to repair also they lied and told me there were no further recalls for my vehicle but when i googled there are actually around 10 recalls for my vehicle and hyundai refuses to fix or even admit there is a recall..my control arms need replacing also.

Took vehicle to the dealer to check the air bag warning light. they said it was caused by the seat belt and wiring that needed to be replaced. after checking the recall information, there was a recall (056) under campaign number 02v290000. the dealer stated that the recall was not for my vehicle which was a 2003 hyundai tiburon. i called hyundai and spoke with their rep and she said the same even though the recall includes 2003 hyundai tiburons. this fix will cost me close to $400.00 just to pass inspection. makes you wonder what was done on vehicles produced after march 2003 that was claimed to correct this issue, considering so many tiburons that were produced after this date are having the same issue. i currently own 3 hyundais, very disappointed as this car has only 79961 miles. updated 09/15/15*lj *cn

The airbag in my car is on permanently. i researched the problem and found that there was a recall for this. it is caused by a wiring problem with the driver side seatbelt buckle under the seat.i was told that my vin is not included in the recall. i replaced the seatbelt buckle and within a month the airbag light was back on.

Noticed air bag light was on in my son's car when i drove over the weekend. looked online found out there was a recall on 2003-2008 tibruons in regards to air bag/drivers side seat belt buckle safety issue. called hyundai 1-800 to no avail took to columbia hyundai dealer today. they stated was driver side belt buckle which was making air bag light come on and wanted $397 to repair. i told them is safety issue already $14 million lawsuit against hyundai for same thing they told me to come get car. called back hyundai service just a few minutes ago. they refused any help. *tr

This report is being filed by an accident reconstructionist at the request of the vehicle's insurance carrier. vehicle was proceeding in the left lane of a 4-lane (2 lanes in each direction, divided by a double-yellow center-line) state highway when operator's airbag deployed for no apparent reason, causing loss of control. the vehicle then drifted leftward across center-line and both oncoming lanes, and came to rest after mounting the curb and colliding with a fire hydrant. event was witnessed by two, separate, independent and involved motorists. vehicle's owner was the only occupant and was injured. owner purchased used vehicle in january, 2012 reported previous trouble with clutch, transmission, and that mileage at the time of incident is on known due to the for replacement of the operator's console, and was therefore estimated. its speed at the time is also estimated at 40 mph, the posted speed limit. *tr

2003 tiburon : my lights started going on and off on their own and indicator lights on and off erratically. air bag light stayed on i went off the road at 100k and airbag did not deploy also having alternator problems melting fan switch and attaching harness rear wiper failed, trunk release fail, both door locks failed cant lock my car anymore. alot of safety issues that seem to be really common all related to bcm computer and electrical wiring cheap and dangerous. i have also had a head gasket go while the car was under warranty and the dealership refused to replace saying it was detergent in my oil i have worked on cars my whole life and been a mechanic for the last 12 years had to replace the head gasket myself after the warranty ran out. transmission shift solenoid also failed from 1 to 2nd gear dealership replaced the transmission for that one. i have had a very bad experience with hyundai service i had plugs fouling because of the head gasket leaking and capital hyundai said it was my plugs which were ngk and only a few months old they were fouled hyundai wanted $100 to replace them i said i would do it myself and when i got there they had six plugs in a box ngk and champion six plugs in all i only have a 4 cylinder car i don't know where the extra plugs came from. after the head gasket was changed amazingly my detergent stopped, my engine didn't make oil and the antifreeze stayed in the rad lol. what a coincidense.cant believe that they are able to do this i love my car but the problems that im having and lack of service and lies on behalf of the staff i will never buy a hyundai again. p.s. getting a new car. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 hyundia tiburon gt. as the contact started the ignition, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the warning light remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the failure would recur whenever the engine was in operation. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. there were two recalls related to the defect under nhtsa campaign id numbers: 02v290000 (seat belts:front:buckle assembly) and 03v321000 (air bags:frontal). the vin was not included in either of the recalls even though the contact expericed the identical failure as mentioned in both recalls. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 52,726. j

My hyundai tiburon 2003 is just over 60k miles and the airbag light is on. at the very beginning, it stays on longer than it should be. several days later, the light is always on. *tr

Recall id# 4217 and id# 74501 for a 2003 hyundai tiburon deal with the drivers seat belt buckle wiring causing the air bag light to illuminate. my air bag light keeps on turning on, even after my local mechanic checked the air bag and reset the light and turned it off. i finally had a hyundai dealership check into it and they found that it is caused by the problem described in these recalls, however my vin does not fall into the category that these two recalls are for. this recall must be expanded to more 2003 hyundai tiburons as it is a known problem and i should not have to pay to have air bags that work correctly. *tr

The seat belt wiring appears to be faulty which was suppose to be fixed in 2003 when i brought my car into the hyundai dealership in bloomington, mn for this recall. the seat belt keeps dinging when i'm buckled up and driving, i noticed the air bag light also came on and hasn't come off since the seat belt dinging started. i can stop the dinging from the seat belt by moving the seat belt piece around which is located between my seat and center council. the manager at luther hyundai referred me to the hyundai consumer affairs and they made a report and conveyed that i should bring it back to the dealership. i spoke to the manager again at the dealership and he is saying that regardless he'll have to charge me $119.00 for a diagnostic fee. my vin number is very close to the vin numbers that are being recalled for this very same problem but hyundai won't look at it without charging me. i'm getting conflicting information from hyundai consumer affairs and manager at the hyundai dealership. ultimately, i'm concerned that if i am in a car accident and the air bag doesn't deploy it could cost me my life. *tr *dt

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 hyundai tiburon. the contact stated that the air bag warning indicator remains illuminated in the vehicle. he took his vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the driver's seat belt buckle wiring caused the air bag wiring lamp to illuminate. the failure could also cause the air bag fuse to open and prevent air bag deployment. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 02v29000 (component: seat belts:front:buckle assembly). the contact would have to pay $300 for the repair. the manufacturer agreed with the dealer. the contact stated that he just purchased the vehicle five days prior to the failure. the failure mileage was 65,000. 4/01/09 *nj updated 04/06/09. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 hyundai tiburon. while driving approximately 30 to 35 mph the driver's side air bag deployed. it was difficult for her to drive onto the emergency lane. she inspected the vehicle and confirmed that she had not crashed into anything. she sustained injures to her neck, shoulder and arm. she also stated that the drivers seat was torn. the following day, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. the dealer performed an air bag diagnostic test and suggested that the left seat back modular wiring and sensor be replaced. the air bag and the tear in the seat were repaired by a relative. the sensor was never replaced. the approximate failure mileage was 86,000 and the current mileage was 120,000.

My son's 2003 hyundai tiburon has the exact same problem as the current recall that is only for hyundai's azera model (2005-08) which is a problem with the seat belt sensor that prevents airbag deployment. why is their no recall on the 03 tiburon's when so many others complain of the same thing on the internet??? it is expensive to replace the seat belt assembly (about $500) & i worry about my son's safety. he also has a problem with his turn signal not working & it is related to the body control module which the dealer wants $1000 to fix. many others on the internet also complain & also no recalls on his year & model. my son has a friend with the exact same car that just paid the $1000 to get his bcm replaced. my son can't afford these expensive fixes. what gives that there is no recall on these two items when so many others have complained of similar problems??? *tr

I co-own this car with my daughter. the air bag light came on and would not go off. we found out about safety recall 02v290000 which specified that on 2003 tiburons the driver seat belt buckle could be damaged by the height adjuster mechanism, resulting in failure of the air bag or the permanent lighting of the air bag light with failure to deploy on impact. the dealer refused to fix it because hyundai claims the problem was fixed by march 2003 and will not agree to fix cars manufactured afterward. hyundai protection plan refused to cover repair because they say this is part of the cars restraint system excluded by the warranty. paid to have it fixed jan 2009. problem has now recurred in sept 2010 and dealer says i will have to pay to repair again because parts and service are only covered for 12 months. meanwhile, my daughter is driving a potentially unsafe car. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 hyundai tiburon. while driving 60 mph, the air bags deployed without a crash. the dealer stated that they would not inspect the vehicle because it was no longer under warranty. the vehicle is still at the dealer and they refuse to inspect it or make any repairs. the failure and current mileages were 74,184.

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 hyundai tiburon. the air bag indicator is illuminated and will not dim. the driver's side seat belt buckle wiring is preventing the air bag from deploying in the event of a crash. nhtsa campaign id number 02v290000 (seat belts:front:buckle assembly) was referenced. the dealer and manufacturer stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. the failure mileage was 79,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 hyundai tiburon. on november 14, 2008, the contact noticed that the passenger frontal air bag indicator remained illuminated on the instrument panel. a report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 05v395000 (air bags); therefore, they would not assist with the repairs. the contact will take the vehicle to the dealer. the failure mileage was 73,000 and current mileage was 79,000.

Bcm (body control module) defective on my 2003 hyundai tiburon. airbag warning light stays on so don't know if it will deploy in a crash. door locks don't work. cruise control doesn't work. left blinker stays on unless disconnected (police gave me a warning regarding this) many others reported similar problems online. all seem to be due to a defective body control module which costs $700 just for the part. there should be a recall on the bcm since so many others have similar issues! especially worry about airbag not deploying in an accident. *tr

My car was parked, i get into the car as normally and when i started the car......... boom the airbag deployed with no reason, i never hit anything, the car never moved,in less than a second there was an explosion, a big explosion, m car was filled with smoke. i was scared what if that could occur while i was driving, im 100% that this should be investigated and be a recall of this. my insurance wont cover and they probably will raise my coverage, i had bruises in my hand and forehead due to the impact. a repair shop will cost me more than 1,000 dollars which i don't have. and now im scared to drive my own car, and i need it to get to my job and i can't. *tr

On monday the 14th i accidentally rear ended a van while going about 60 mph...he was almost stopped for a sudden turn off the highway... my car is totaled... though driving alone, my passenger airbag went off, but by drivers side didn't... my body is in lots of pain, and my insides hurt alot... i did lose conscience for a small time.... i've been to the hospital twice and my doctor once for pain... no broken bones, just lots of bruises... i've been told the pain and suffering would have been possibly less if airbag deployed as designed... geico, my insurance company has the car in clayton nc, and wants me to sign over the title so they can pay me for my car.... should i do this before having you or someone else investigate the reason for airbag failure? do i have a case? i've received many emails from others in similar situations with their hyundai's and much worse damages to their bodies. *tr what do i do?

I co-own this car with my daughter. the air bag light came on and would not go off. this caused her to fail inspection in virginia. we found out about safety recall 02v290000 which specified that on 2003 tiburons the driver seat belt buckle could be damaged by the height adjuster mechanism, resulting in failure of the air bag or the permanent lighting of the air bag light with failure to deploy on impact. the dealer refused to fix it because hyundai claims the problem was fixed by march 2003 and will not agree to fix cars manufactured afterward. my daughter's car was produced in may 2003, making the window between eligibility and non-eligibility only 32 days from march 31 to may 1. we have spent hours trying to get this problem fixed. hyundai cannot explain why, if the problem was fixed as of march 2003, there are cars suffering from the exact same problem and manufactured less than two months later. i am still working to get them to underwrite repairs. meanwhile, my daughter is driving a potentially unsafe car, we've spent hours going to dealerships to get them to look at it and arguing on the phone with hyundai and its dealers, and we have both lost a lot of time from work and suffered great aggravation. *tr

I 'm financing a hyundai tiburon 2003 and the air bag in the front drivers side has been malfunctioning, the light is on and has been on. also the windows wont roll down and the oxygen sensors have gone out as well. is there any remedy that can be done for my car since i owe 9,000.00 dollars on it to fireside bank? *tr

Having the same problem as most stated! seatbelt dings constantly when not buckled and air bag light on at all times. found the recall. took it to a dealership who said my car was not covered under the recall. if my car is having the recalled problem and is a 2003, and it is a consistent problem for others... it should be covered! i refuse to settle for anything less! because of this issue and hyundai's lack of taking responsibility for their problem, i will never purchase a hyundai again. *tr

Air bag light came on on the dash of my 2003 hyundai tiburon because of a broken wire under the drivers seat. hyundai has had recalls on other vehicles for the same problem with the wire getting broken under the driver seat. they have fixed the problem under a recall to include putting a plastic cover over the wires to protect them. they told me that there is not a recall for that problem on my vin number vehicle, same problem. the dealer said it is a common problem with this vehicle. this could cause the air bag not to deploy in an accident. they said that there was debri under the seat that caused the break. the only thing under the seat was a small collapsed umbrella that was on the back seat floor. i believe that there has not been a recall for this vehicle because not enough people have complained. this is a safety problem with the way hyundai runs the wires under the seat. *tr

Clutch failed at 44,000 miles after buying car used. service department would not fix , stated it was wear and tear. cost $1500 to fix. airbag light stays on, past 65,000 so service department wont fix it unless i pay for it. hatch back latch wont work, $200 to fix that. headlights burn out every other month. brought car to service center because of a noise in the front of car. said they couldnt hear anything. 2000 miles over my warrentee brought car back because it was getting worse, said it was front wheel assembly and would cost $1000 to fix. during cold weather emergency brake sticks took it in and they couldnt find anything wrong, go figure. seats wont latch sometimes after letting someone out from the back. is there a end to the problems that i have with this hyundai.

Airbag light is on, i think this is due to seat belt buckle wiring issue, since light was going on and off for few days (and when i was moving seat belt buckle it was disappearing) i did research tiburon forums and i see that most people experiencing same issue had their seat belt buckle replaced and light reset and that was it. problem with me is that i'm out of warranty. i have called hyundai affairs and reported this issue and they told me that hyundai dealter may and most probably charge me for inspection and fixing issue, since there was no recall on my car. i'm afraid that air bag will not deploy during accident and i think hyundai should pay for fixing it since this is not isolated issue. many other hyundai have same issue. *tr

My air bag light has currently been on for almost a year now at first if i wiggled the seat belt latch it would go off but now it stays on. when i contact the dealership they say that my car is not affected by the seatbelt recall. they want to charge me all this money for something that should be covered by the recall. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 hyundai tiburon. the air bag light remains illuminated. the dealer stated that the failure was not covered under warranty, and the repair would be the contacts responsibility. she was informed that the failure was due to the front seat belt buckle assembly, and her vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 03v321000 (air bags:frontal). the vin, purchase date, and engine size were unknown. the current mileage was 97,000 and failure mileage was 90,000. updated 4/23/08 *cn updated 04/23/08 *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 hyundai tiburon. while driving 35 mph, the air bag light remained illuminated. the dealer stated that the light illuminated due to the driver's side air bag. the dealer informed the contact that they would have to replace a switch. since the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 03v321000 (air bags:frontal), the contact would have to pay approximately $400 for the repair. the current mileage was 147,000 and failure mileage was 98,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 hyundai tiburon. while driving 40 mph in clear weather the contac's vehicle struck the rear of another vehicle. only the passenger side air bag deployed, however, there was no passenger in the seat. the vehicle was destroyed, and has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer. the current and failure mileage were 27,000.*ak

I was involved in a car accident: a front-end collision. the insurance company has totaled my car. my drivers side air bag did not deploy. the passengers side did. i have injuries. and most likely will be going for surgery. there was smoke from under the hood. i really want to know if my air bag was faulty. i see there are recalls on my car (hyundai tiburon) for faulty seat belt mechanism, which effects the fuse, which blows out and never sends the signal to the driver airbag. was this the cause of my faulty airbag? or is it something else? was my individual car recalled for that faulty devise? was my car overlooked because of the timing of the recall and the time of my purchase? i am the second owner. is there anyway to check my individual auto? i bought my car certified pre-owned. and it was only dealer serviced. we buy new cars for safety features. we get discounts on insurance rates for: having these features on our cars; there are lights on the dashboard that tell us we need fuel; that our doors are open; that we need to check the engine; that we have abs breaks; even to tell us that we need to wear our seat belts. there is even a light that says we have an airbag. but nothing, to my knowledge, says check the airbag and make sure it is working. this is a life saving devise. why are there no regular check-ups, for the airbag, to make sure it works when you need it? this should be mandatory for all vehicles!!! why did my airbag not work? again, is there anyway to check my individual auto? i feel that if it worked, i would not be permanently injured! *tr

On october 28th at 11:00pm, we were driving at the rate of 55 to 60 mph and we hit a deer. the deer was a buck and from my understanding, it would be worth 8 points while hunting. the deer smashed into the front my car and rolled many times on the left of us. the deer died instantly from the accident. when the impact happened, the car shut off and the only light on the dash board that was on was the airbag light. we could smell a burnt powder smell inside of the car as well. the airbags did not deploy. i am very concerned about this since we were going so fast and we hit a large deer head on. even if the car is able to be fixed, i am going to be afraid to drive the car again or sell it to anyone due to the safety issues. i have called the dealer regarding this situation and i am waiting to hear back. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated the driver seat belt and airbag lights illuminated. when the seat was repositioned, the seat belt light went out, but the airbag light remained illuminated. the vehicle was not included in recall #02v290000, regarding seatbelts:front:buckle assembly due to the vin. the service dealer determined the seat belt buckle needed to be replaced to fix the issue.

Since we purchased this vehicle new we have replaced the battery twice, the clutch, fly wheel, slave cylinder, three times, a coolant leak fixed, the window motor and it is currently at the repair shop. we also have had to replace all four tires and have the vehicle aligned. the air bag light is also on at this time. the thing that makes me angry is that a service technician has seen or vehicle twice and said our vehicle was fine. so, why did the clutch go out 10 days later? *jb

-4 transmission/clutch failures -defective brake line -defective wheel hub -defective wheel bearing and knuckle -many other dangerous defects -all were repaired, most were covered under warranty after much dispute -no old parts available, but all r

Dt: the contact stated while driving at approxiatmately 40 mph another vehicle pulled out in front of her this resulted in a frontal impact crash. the vehicle was totaled. the driver's side air bag did not deploy. injuries where sustained. seat belts where in use. contact was unaware of a recall on the airbags for this type of vehicle before the accident. the recall # is 02v290000.

This just happened one day. my air bag warning light came on the dash, and when i fastened in my seat belt it starts dinging like it's not fastened. it's annoying as i drive down the road. i've checked the air bag fuses and they are fine. *jb

Air bag light comes on intermittently during vehicle operation. brought vehicle to dealer without results. i am still fighting with them to look into this matter especially after reading all the complaints filed concerning air bag malfunctions. i am concerned for my safety and the safety of my family. something must be done hyundai must be held accountable for their negligence. *ak

Front end collision driver airbag did not deploy, passanger side did, wire harness was defective at firewall.

I was involved in a single car accident on i-75 near richmond, ky.. i hit a guard rail head on while avoiding another car. the passenger side airbag deployed, but the driver side did not. injuries were head, neck , and back. treated and released in hospital e r .*ak

The passenger side air bag deployed after the consumer bumped a divider in the road, at 30 mph with the driver side of the vehicle. the consumer contacted the manufacturer, who sent written guidelines on air bag deployment, stating that the air bag should deploy on the passenger side if that was the side struck. *ak *sc *jb

While driving 70 mph passenger's side air bag inadvertently deployed. driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. *ak
