Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring

While driving the car became difficult to steer almost resulting in my going off the road, when i go to a place that was safe to stop, i noticed that the eps light was illuminated red, and the esc off light was illuminated yellow. i shut off the car and it the lights went off and remained off during my communte home. when i drove the care yesterday the lights came on at start up and stayed on my commute home. this vehicle is extremely difficult to steer to steer when the lights are illuminated, and unsafe when the power steering cuts off unexpectedly while driving. there are many reports of this problem on the internet, and a recall number #127 has been assigned, but no official recall to date for my vin #.

This is a second issue same problem. the first time was december 29,2014 went out started the car no power steering had just drove the car the day before over hundred miles seemed fine well the next morning the problem arose wife went to go to work no power steering she took my vehicle i missed work to take into the dealership. that afternoon they reset the computer and the car drove fine. fast forward to march 22,2015 a sunday morning got into the car started it up an no power steering shut it off restarted it ran fine. called the dealership up the next morning got an appointment to have it checked over. again the same issue thankfully we were not driving the car when these issues have happened. we have seen the article in the paper on the recall but at this date hyundai has not notified owners of the recall so i guess we wait and hope we do not crash the car in the mean time. iam also the second owner of this car and wonder if this was not an issue in the past. *tr

Driving elantra touring 2010 ( with less than 28500 miles) in a local street, and all of sudden the vehicle stopped immediately before the turn signal and unable to operate the steering. there were several lights, including the "esc" was on. it is really scary when vehicle stopped responding while driving on the street. i am not sure any recall available to remediate this dangerous problem. *tr

Traveling in a 40 mph zone approaching a red light. began decelerating and applying brake. eps (electronic power steering) light and esc lights activated on dashboard; complete loss of power steering occurred. shut off vehicle & checked all fuses - all appeared normal; no power steering or esc functioning. vehicle serviced by dealer who diagnosed a short in the electrical harness in the steering column. repair required complete replacement of steering column and wiring harness (parts cost was over $1,100.00). dealer stated this is becoming a common repair for the elantra line of vehicles, but this was the first they saw in a touring model. due to commonality of parts in comparison to the percentage of touring models produced it appears there may be a problem with the design of the steering column and wiring harness for all elantra models. *tr

My vehicle previously failed a state safety inspection for failed brake lights just several months after purchase (october 2010). just prior to this failed inspection, i'd noticed that the "esc off" light on the dash would turn on unexpectedly. my local hyundai dealership repaired the brake light switch, which also remedied the "esc off" light issue. just over a month ago, the "esc off" light on the dash again began to turn on without reason. a few days ago, while merging onto an interstate near my home, a vehicle behind mine barely avoided an accident with me when i had to suddenly slow to make a merge. the driver kindly alerted me that he did not notice any brake lights when i suddenly stopped. so, it seems as if i am again going to have to have the brake light switch, which has already been a known problem in a number of hyundai vehicles, repaired. *tr

At speeds over 50 mph the esc (electronic stability control) light comes on. i have been waiting for a recall but nothing comes up. i have read about other people having this issue! why hasn't hyundai addressed this along with the tps (tire pressure system) issues? i am on my 4th hyundai and i am not impressed! *tr
