We have classified the 114 complaints from 2007 Honda Odyssey about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated that after the vehicle was serviced for an unknown recall, the check engine and abs warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 10v504000 (service brakes, hydraulic). the failure mileage was 114,256.
I forgot to add the recall number on the vsa device that locks up without drivers involvement and causes accidents. i was told by honda it is 13-098 in my former complaint today. bottom line, if i drive it with this unsafe condition and it locks up and causes an accident, who is liable for damages etc? if i don't drive it i have no car until repaired. does or is honda responsible to provide us a car until ours is repaired and safe again. i received a recall notice and now tom scott honda in nampa id said they can't repair it until sometime next year because they can't get parts until then. from my understanding this vehicle is being recalled because the brakes lock up do to the vsa device malfunctioning and causing accidents in which people are getting hurt. what is the answer? *tr
I was driving in the highway at approximately 30 mph and accelerating when suddenly my minivan brakes by itself. it was like someone else was controlling the brake pedal for me. it was horrifying. it pulled over and waited until i was ok to drive again. i continue driving and again when i was accelerating the brake pedal went all the way down and braked to almost a complete stop. i decided to keep on driving to get to the nearest safest place to park and call for assistance and the same thing happened two more times until i parked and turned off the vehicle. i had to call for a relative assistance getting back home because i was driving with my three children and i didn't want to endanger them. my husband took the minivan home and it didn't do it again. i haven't drive it since i'm terrified it can do it again when i'm driving in the highway at high speed and cause and accident that can be fatal to my family, other drivers and me.
This complaint is about the raybestos's advanced technology rotors (model #980290) that i brought at o'reilly auto part store and installed on my 2007 honda odyssey in 06/26/2011. last week on 06/23/2013 while inspecting the pulsation issues, i found fine cracks on both rotors. with curiosity i searched "raybestos rotor cracks" over the internet and i found the brake rotor safety public awareness published at the raybestos site. based on the information from raybestos, certain imported brake rotors including raybestos brand have this issue. i checked the box and found the rotors were made in china. their site provided nhtsa link to file complaint.
A letter from senator wicker on behalf of constituent re safety concern about his 2007 honda odyssey (dot/i # s-2012-274) *tgw the consumer stated the van had a documented problem with the brakes locking up while driving. the consumer stated the brakes locked up while his wife was driving, which almost caused her to be rear ended.
2007 honda odyssey. consumer states problem with vehicle brakes *tgw the consumer stated the brakes emitted a squealing and grinding noise on a regular, but not constant on a basis when braking or turning. the dealer informed the consumer the brake problem had been rectified. however, the next day, the consumer noticed when he applied the brake in excess of 60 mph, the van would vibrate and shimmy. he also noticed a constant and unusually loud washing-machine-agitator type noise which became louder while riding in the middle seat area. the consumer stated the entire van vibrated so violently when he applied the brake at speeds of 60 mph and over he became extremely concerned about maintaining control of the vehicle. the consumer took the vehicle to another repair shop, where it was recommended that the rear motor mount, rotors and brakes be replaced. the consumer was also informed that one of the tires was badly worn. *jb
I was driving with cruise control off at a constant speed of 45 mph on level ground. brakes spontaneously activated with moderately hard force, slowing car to 30 mph, then releasing. no warning lights on instrument cluster, and all four wheels appeared to be involved. engine rpm did decrease during this event. the spontaneous braking recurred twice within two miles with the same fairly spirited deceleration experienced. the vsa was switched to the off setting, and no other episodes of spontaneous braking were noted for the remaining one mile of the journey. fuel level at 80%, car is very well maintained. no aberrant sounds were generated. updated 03/09/12 *tr
I am getting a thud sound from the back of my 2007 odyssey mini van. we called honda and they said they have had several people come in with this. they found that there is a glazing that happens with the brakes and they said they have to grind the drums and it makes it go away for awhile. they said if the brake shoes are ok it would run about $200.00. this is crazy if they have a problem with the brakes other than wear and tear they should fix it for free. i have put two sets of brakes on this van since i bought it and i have never had brakes go so fast. i believe they have a very poor design. if i had not bought the extended warranty i would have been out 1000 of dollars with all the problem this 2007 honda has had. if i had it to do over again i would not buy another honda. the windshield whistles, the transmission part had to be replaced, the compressor melted, the battery went dead on a trip before a year was up. the bearings in the wheels went bad. the axle went bad. the right rear door motor went bad. the left rear door will open part way and shut. all in all honda has gone down hill. $37,000 and its a piece of junk. thank god other than the brakes the dealer has been very very good and has fixed everything at least once. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the brakes would become soft and spongy when depressed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer at least four times for the failure but the vehicle could not be repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and a representative was sent to further inspect the failure but they were unable to find a solution to the problem. the failure mileage was 34,000.
Soft brake pedal even after tsb was performed. several other people are complaining about this same subject matter on the honda odyssey.
Brakes failed causing a crash. we bought the vehicle brand new in 2007 and have noticed spongy, soft, hard to stop brakes from the beginning. dealerships, we have taken it to more than one, always say it's fine, no failure, no problem can be repeated. we had the brakes replaced just in case and have had both recall jobs fixed, one just last week. this week cars stopped short in front of my husband while he was driving, he could not stop, tried to slam brakes and the van would not stop, he put the pedal to the floor and nothing. he hit the car in front of him. we have had a few problems with trying to stop short in the past but have avoided a crash before. a recall is just not enough, it didn't fix the problem for our van. also the airbag did not deploy.
There has been a number of recalls on the brake system. but, there continues to be air introduced into the system causing a soft pedal. this leads to reduced brake effectiveness.
2007 honda odyssey. consumer states problems with faulty modulator *tgw the consumer stated on february 9, 2011 he took the vehicle to the dealer because the vsa light illuminated on the dashboard. they determined the vsa module was faulty and needed to be replaced at a cost of $1221.00 plus tax. the consumer stated the vsa modulator was replaced previously under recall. *jb
Soft brake pedal in honda odyssey. i am having this problem since i have purchased the van. i have made several appointment and done all the recall by honda but still my problem is not fixed. every time i go to dealer they tell me everything is ok and i still have the same problem. i don't know what should be done. *tr
2007 honda odyssey. consumer writes to express discontent with american honda motor company regarding dispute over brake system recall. *tgw the consumer stated he encountered constant issues with a soft brake pedal. the dealer bled the brakes and pronounced the problem as solved. however, he continued to experience the problem. the consumer is requesting reimbursement for the repairs made on his vehicle. the consumer received a denial letter from honda stating the information that was submitted did not support the defect related to the recall. *jb
Consumer states ongoing problem/defect with a honda odyssey concerning front wheels wobbling and vehicle jerking *tgw the consumer stated the wobble from the front wheels was most noticeable at low speed turns. the consumer stated when he hit the slightest bump, the wobble could be felt in the steering wheel. after turning a corner, and the steering wheel was released, the steering wheel returned to straight forward with a series of jerks. the dealer was unable to provide a remedy even though there were complaints from other customers. *jb the consumer stated he returned to the dealer regarding problems with the brakes. the service writer informed the consumer there was a weakness in the hydraulic brake system and the master cylinder would have to be replaced. the consumer learned of a recall, but records showed it was never replaced. on may 21, 2010, the modulator and sealing caps were replaced. on january 19, 2011, the dealer installed a master cylinder repair kit. the remedies showed little to no improvement. the consumer stated after not using the brakes for a few miles, he would have to pump the brakes several times, in order to stop, because the pedal would go to the floor. *jb
Recently purchased a 2007 honda odyssey, and the brakes don't work well. the pedal is very soft and not very responsive. i have never had a car that stopped so poorly. it takes twice the effort of my other car to get the van stopped. not a very safe feeling at all. so far no incidents but in an emergency i could see a future problem developing. i did have the dealer service department look at the brakes and they said they were fine, no air in the lines. both my wife and i agree the brakes are really bad. *tr
We bought a used 2007 honda odyssey ex-l from a dealership, and noticed the brake pedal to be spongy. the van stops slower than other vehicles on the road under normal following distance, and creates a hazardous situation every time someone in front makes a hard braking and waits for left turn at the last minute. once i overshot a stop sign before main road but fortunately there were no other cars. i found honda tsb 07-045 and brought the van to a honda dealership today, but they said that it is a heavy vehicle and the brake behavior is normal. please raise honda's awareness before severe accidents and bad pr happen. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated that while traveling 35 mph, the brakes engaged independently and the brake lights failed to illuminate. the vehicle was moved to the shoulder. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure could not be replicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure recurred several times after the initial failure. the manufacturer was contacted about the problem. the failure mileage was 15,769 and the current mileage was 29,000. the consumer stated the brakes would self-activate randomly and without warning. when he attempted to accelerate the vehicle would come to a stop or near stop; only then would the brakes release. when the brakes locked up, it caused the tires to drag as they were being forced to roll. until the consumer could get to a safe place to stop. also, the rotors and calipers were generating heat.
Brake is not working properly even dealer has been changed abs module twice. the last time in service to seal the air leaked into abs module as recall but it won't help. brake is still soft and not stop as driver desired. this van has been in 3 different dealers and 5th in john eagle honda in houston tx. dealer couldn't fix this issue. *tr
Brake doesn't work properly. it's takes too long for response, soft brake and inconsistent. *tr
Tl*the contact owns 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated that while trying to park the vehicle, she applied the brakes which did not respond or slow the vehicle which resulted in a crash. the vehicle was recently repaired under a recall for the brakes (recall 10v504000: service brakes, hydraulic: foundation components: master cylinder). after the accident, the vehicle was taken into the dealer and they did inspect. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 36,000 and current mileage was 37,000.
While accelerating about 45 mph, the brakes suddenly slammed on while foot was on the gas pedal. the car came to a dead stop then started going again. there was no time to react and things flew forward in the car. this has happened three times.
2007 honda odyssey brake pedal travels too far (when you first get into the odyssey and press down on the brake pedal, it will go to the floor) and it is soft/mushy. [this issue was present before the recall earlier this year, and is still an issue since the recall repair was made.] this becomes an issue when i drive a different vehicle which has a "normal" hard brake pedal and requires much more force to stop the vehicle. i get used to the soft/mushy pedal and don't react soon enough to stop what i call "normal" brake pedal in other vehicles. i vote for a standard brake pedal pressure requirement so when a person drives different vehicles there isn't the hazard of not pressing down hard enough on the brake pedal because one gets used to a very soft pedal in the honda odyssey. *tr
The brakes on my 2007 honda odyssey, have been checked three (3) times by the dealer. but the problem of not stopping in a safe time and the grinding noise made by them has not been fixed. the pedal is very soft and sometimes all the way to the floor board and still not stopping in time for the red light. this still occurs daily. i have had the recall done for the air in the brake line but nothing helped, i have had the brakes looked at and the honda dealer stated "they are just fine". *tr
Tl* the contact owns 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated that whenever braking to a stop, the front brakes would travel all the way to the floorboard causing a substantial increase in braking distance and time. the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times for repairs to the brake pads but to no avail. the failure mileage was 68,000.
At 21,000 mi. front vibration when brakes applied while driving. told brake rotor was warped and needed to be turned. had the work done. at 30194mi noticed front vibration again at 65mph breaking. this occurred after the soft brake recall was performed. i was told again that the brake rotors needed to be turned again. told my driving was the most likely cause. van is used to drive 1.5 miles to and from work and highway driving in non-rush hour times. was told the 1.5 mi. drive each day was considered hard driving by honda and most likely cause of rotor warp. *tr
I own a 2007 honda odyssey ex-l. last may, i received two separate recall notices for pcm update for lock-up clutch function and for low and soft brake pedal. there was a delay in taking my van to a dealer because i was on a military deployment. my deployment ended last month and that's when i took my van to get service (recalls). a month had past since i took my van for the recall but the break problem still persist and i think it's getting worst. the breaks is very soft and the pedal is very low when i step on it. sometimes i have to pump my brakes twice just to feel the brake. i sent honda customer service a letter requesting another authorization to have my brakes check and service again. honda's solution to fix the problem did not work. the honda dealer bled, seal and cap the brake system on my van but it did not solve the problem. this issue should be look at again before someone gets hurt or lose their lives. *tr
Driving the car the brake pedal gets very soft and the vehicle fails to stop in a normal time. this car was already serviced for honda's 2010 soft brake repair on the 2007-08 odyssey. it seems the symptoms of the original recall are still evident as this recall relates to air in the brake line over time. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated while driving 45 mph the brakes engaged automatically until the vehicle stopped, although she was applying pressure to the accelerator pedal. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the vehicles stability assist sensor was defective and needed to be replaced. the remedy failed to repaired the vehicle. the contact mentioned that the failure occurred thirteen times. the dealer diagnosed that the vehicle stability assist and anti-lock brake system sensor needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, a report was filed and assigned to a regional officer to investigate. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 42,000 and the current mileage was 49,246.
2007 honda odyssey soft brakes recall has been done twice about 1000 miles later soft and squishy again did nhtsa have any review on long term "fix" that has not worked. this problem has been looked at by honda since we bought the car and hyannis honda has said all was normal ... no the brakes really do not work worth a [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. while traveling 5 mph the contact applied the brakes and noticed that the brake pedal had fallen to the floor of the vehicle and had began to vibrate, seconds later the vehicle began driving normally. the vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the vehicle was performing normally. there were no prior warnings. the current and failure mileages were 24000. updated 1/19/2010 *cn the consumer as she began to slow down to pull into a parking space, the brakes suddenly locked for a few seconds, then vibrated and then made a scrapping noise. she pumped the brakes then they seemed to perform as designed. updated 03/28/11
My brakes on my honda odyssey 2007 van failed last week. the van has only 13k miles on it. the honda dealership (capitol honda, san jose, ca) told me that the power booster on the brakes was defective. they said it was very rare. last month, i received a recall notice to have the van serviced to prevent a brake problem called "soft brake." i took it in and several weeks later, the brakes seemed to give way while i was driving with children inside. i could hear a hissing sound and the brake felt spongy. the dealership told me i had "hard brake," not "soft brake." the dealership called honda and honda authorized a "one-time complimentary" fix. i write this in the hopes of preventing a tragedy as these vans are mostly family vehicles--multiple children on board. *tr
Power steering loss at low speeds. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. when the contact attempted to start his vehicle, it failed to start. he jump started the vehicle and drove it 5 mph about 100 feet and heavy smoke entered the cabin of the vehicle. he pulled over got out of the vehicle and disconnected the battery cable. the vehicle had not been repaired for the failure. the contact took the vehicle to the dealership and had repairs performed on the brakes. the contact stated he called the dealership back on 6/5/10 after the repair had been performed and advised them that the brake repair did not work. he stated the brakes would go all the way to the floor. the failure and current mileage was 41,000. the consumer stated the steering would shake . but the problem was always blamed on the clutch. the dealer then turned the rotors. updated evoq 08/31/10*jb
American honda motor co., inc. honda automobile customer service 1919 torrance blvd. mail stop 500-2n-7a torrance, ca 90501-2746 re: 2007 honda odyssey touring dear honda, june 2, 2010 i had a scheduled appointment with miller honda, 4477 vestal parkway e, vestal, ny; for 9:00 am. the recall work for my soft brake pedal and the vibration occurring at highway speed of 65 mph and above, was to be done. five hours later, approximately 2:05 pm i stopped back with the loaner car to the dealership to see how much longer the car would be tied up and found that work on the car had never even been started. i was told a mechanic had called in and that a problem with a new car required some priority work so my car was not worked on. having worked around automobile shops from a teenager onward i am not exactly a novice. brake work is not a joke and there are serious state laws involved for a driver to knowingly drive a car with faulty brakes. unfortunately miller honda fails to realize that brakes are a priority and nothing to fooled around with. miller honda spends a fortune on advertising attempting to entice the public to come to their dealership and purchase cars from them. then they turn around and treat previous customers and honda owners as disposable items. what exactly the thinking is behind their business plan totally escapes me. my understanding is that i am free to have my honda repaired by any honda dealer? should this information be accurate, i can only hope that there is one in the area that is actually interested in customer service and just might have a desire to sell another honda someday. miller honda of binghamton new york just doesn't seem to be one. *tr
I have a 2007 honda odyssey. a vibration in the steering wheel when braking lightly at low speeds. took it to the dealership and they said the rotors were warped. there has to be defect in the brakes causing the rotors to warp as the vehicle only had 28k miles and the pads had more than 50% left. i researched online and looks like several people have had similar issues. *tr
No crashes known to me at this date. condition of the brake pedal approaching the floor board during the inital application has been evident for probably for a year. the pedal height increases with repeated pedal applications but after a short period the loss of correct brake application for the stop needed required is again repeated by the excess drop of brake pedal. with the pedal at its lowest travel point contact with the gas pedal can occur. brake fluid level in the reservoir was always correct; brake clippers and pads are in good condition; no fliud leaks are eviident at th resevoir;caliper connections; or fluid leaks whichmight be seen at any fliud line connecters.

I have a honda 2007 odyssey and the all four brake rotors need to be changed, and i have been the only owner of the vehicle i have had the van since nov. 20/2006 i always drive the van every where how can this be to a new van? i was quoted a price of 1200$ to fix. this may be a safety problem but not sure how much of one, but when stopping is concerned it is serious. *tr
On march 2010 i first took the car into dealer (beaverton honda) to indicate that whenever i apply brakes going slower than 25mph there is a loud squeaking noise. they couldn't find anything wrong with it. since then i have been back at the same dealer for same issue now for the 6th time. and on last friday (sep. 2010) when i went for a test drive with technician i was able to duplicate the issue and he said he knew of the issue and likely to be coming from rear. when i picked up the car they said that they adjusted the parking brake as per tech line service article from june 2009 but the noise was still there. hence honda tech lined informed the dealer that it's a known issue and they are working on it and if there is a fix they will notify me. unfortunately, whatever they did on friday made it 10x worse as now it's happening 90-95% of the time. even when i am let go of the brakes from stop and then apply the brakes going 1-2mps it makes that awful noise. so i went back to the dear today. they just called me and told me they think that replacing the front brake pads and the front rotors should fix it but no guarantees since honda tech line says this is a known problem. the same dealer about a moth and half ago (6/23/2010) told me that replacing all front/back break pads will fix the issue but it didn't. so now within 1.5 months they want to replace the front break pads along with the front rotors and they are not guaranteeing it will fix the issue. i have called american honda on opened a case as this is unacceptable and my wife says she won't drive the car until it's fixed. this issue started after they applied the safety recall on the 2007 odyssey regarding "soft brakes". just before they applied that safety recall the dealer had also found my front brake rotors were prematurely wrapped and resurfaced it under warranty. thus, it seems there is a continued issue with this model year of honda odyssey. *tr
Honda odyssey 2007, only 12000 miles ( over 3 yrs of use): rear brakes already need replacement including rotor. van mostly for highway use. *tr
When braking, the vehicle's brake pedal travels unusually farther to the floor than normal, and leads to improper and extraordinary braking techniques necessary to safely execute a stop. putting this vehicle into the hands of a minimally experienced young driver could result in unexpected vehicle performance and loss of control. this is by no means "standard" or "normal" as my local honda dealer says it is. this is not in line with other honda vehicles, either; it is an aberration they are not addressing. the resulting customer dissatisfaction is mounting, and needs to be addressed by our transportation officials to force honda to address and resolve this issue. *tr
Spongy brakes. sometimes an issue stopping where the brakes are completely depressed. the brakes feel very soft. the car has been brought to honda for a check on the brakes. we were told that all the brakes are that way on the minivans. *tr
My 2007 honda odyssey has twice had the following problem. both times it was in conditions where the anti-lock brakes were (presumably) engaged: once coming to stop on a very wet street in rain, and the second on a very snowy, poor traction street. both times i was braking harder than usual while decelerating to come up to a stop sign/light and the abs engaged. the initial slowing was fine, no slipping, but as i decelerated through about 3-5 mph, the brakes refused to work. i pressed the pedal harder but the brakes would no longer engage. i was moving very slowly, but unable to stop (and this was not due to road surface, it was due to the brakes refusing to engage). the first time i narrowly avoided hitting the car in front of me. the second time i just continued forward halfway through the intersection. i am a commercial pilot and it felt like the antilock brakes had released, and then refused to re-engage. i tried pumping them as well. no response. the pedal still had braking feel, just no brake engagement. perhaps the abs should cut out below 2 mph or some preset number and this did not happen? anyway, in those conditions, you need to be able to stop...even if you're traveling extremely slowly, being unable to stop the vehicle from entering the intersection through the red light is very dangerous. *cn
Brake pedal in 07 honda odyssey bought new (i am the first owner) is getting progressively worse. the brake function is still okay but there is a lot of "play" of the pedal before the brakes engage and this has been getting worse over time. there have been no accidents nor incidents so far but as a cautious driver i know that this problem is escalating. *cw
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the brakes became spongy while driving approximately 35 mph and extended to the floor more frequently. the vehicle was taken the dealer and this is the third time that vsa modular will be replaced. the failure mileage was 30,000.
2007 odyssey lx had been driven for 40 minutes when we came to a red light and braked as normal. the vehicle did not stop until halfway through the intersection. fortunately, there was no accident. this vehicle has had soft brakes for a while so i have adjusted my braking, giving it a long run to stop, but this time even that wasn't enough. the honda dealer told us that the braking system is working fine! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda odyssey. the contact stated that when driving at various speeds and depressing the brakes, they would go straight to the floor board. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised her that the brakes were working according to their design. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 65,000. the vin was unavailable.
1. driver in stop and go traffic applied brakes to stop vehicle, however, vehicle did not stop in time and resulted in a rear-end collision. this occurred on 11/30/2009. 2. vehicle owner reported that when the brake pedal is depressed, there is a lack of response. braking time and distance became significantly longer than normal. this problem was first observed by the vehicle owner on 11/27/2009, however, the driver was able to stop in time on that date, and the vehicle then functioned normally until the collision that occurred on 11/30/2009. 3. immediately after the accident on 11/30/2009, the vehicle owner reported that the vehicle brakes had failed to the auto insurance carrier, and took the vehicle to the dealership for a diagnosis. upon arriving at the dealership, the service representative acknowledge that honda was aware of the braking issue, and even though the vehicle was out of warranty, they offered to cover the repair at 90% and instructed the owner to collect the remaining 10% of the cost directly from honda. the dealership diagnosis was that the abs module was leaking air into the brake system. all other braking components were operational. the dealership replaced the abs module, and bled the brake system to remedy the problem. the old parts were disposed of by the dealership prior to insurance carrier being aware of issue. service records indicate that the vehicle owner had vehicle braking system maintenance completed on 8/19/2009 at the same dealership. *tr
