Problems with 2007 Honda Odyssey POWER TRAIN

I started up my vehicle and the engine lighy came on and the "d" for dtive began flashing. when i put the van in reverse and nuetral it appeared to be fine. however it shifted int drive hard made a loud clunk dound then started ratteling. also the vhehcile lunges forward when the brake is applied. it also doesnt start or turn over at times.

The sliding door on my odyssey fell off. it literally fell off right onto my body while i was pumping gas. not only did this cause physical harm to my person, but it resulted in substantial body damage to the vehicle panel.

Like many others i have a torque convertor issue at 122k miles. the cost to replace the convertor was 2300 dollars , needless to say i'm outraged.

90 k service; actual miles 89,058. mechanic servicer did not flush automatic transmission due to a firm downshift in the transmission when vehicle was road tested i understand that other honda odyssey transmissions have had similar downshift issues, vehicle in motion on road test when downshift occurred.

Unusual shifts between 30-45 mph. seems like transmission is "hunting" for gear. when going downhill and brake is applied a noticeable downshift is felt. first time this was observed was on winding and hilly roads. assumed it was the "eco" kicking in/out or the transmission simply downshifting.

The "d" / drive led started blinking several times at around 104.660 miles. so far no other fault led was flashing. however i discovered since a while that the transmission shifts very hard when driving slower and the transmission shifts from 3rd gear to 2nd gear. the honda technician however told me that this rough shifting is not an issue.

I bought my 2007 odyssey in 2014. it had 55000 miles on it and appeared to be in very good condition. it ran very well except that the emissions light would come on and usually stay on. it did pass during one short period. noticed as it went over 60,000 it had more and more transmission problems. would not back up; wouldn't go into eco mode; shuddered during driving, until it was undriveable. there were no conditions under which the transmission worked well.

I was driving to a supermarket, i pulled into parking lot and then i saw a lot of smoke coming under the hood, i had my three children inside the car and in minutes my car was totaled completely burned. honda should pay my van, none noticed any problem before. side doors won't open at the moment of the fire, very dangerous design for an emergency like this, imagine i mother with child on a car seat and not having access to the rear seats, when this dangerous situation takes minutes to burn the entire vehicle. *tr

While pulling our 2007 honda odyssey into parking space at local shopping center, tapping on brake pedal caused a sudden acceleration. tachometer revved to > 2500 rpm. two other witnesses in the vehicle verified that the accelerator pedal was not being pressed at any time during the incident. the only way to bring vehicle to stop was to push the brake with great force, pop the shifter into park and turn vehicle off. immediately brought the vehicle to honda dealer. dealer inspected vehicle and accelerator pedal and nothing wrong was found. no error code found. *tr

While pulling out from work parking lot, vsa light came on, d letter gear was blinking, and engine vibrated abnormally. rpm could not get passed 3000. also, checked engine oil when got home and it appeared to be low. the vehicle just got oil changed about a month ago. *tr

While traveling on flat, level surface streets at roughly 40mph, car would spontaneously downshift (to 1st gear?) causing the vehicle to slow very quickly/lots of drag (locking up seatbelts) as if the brakes were applied quickly. the vehicle will then reshift back into a higher gear with little to no resistance again. this may happen 1-4 times within a 60 second period. pulling the car over, turning off and turning on again seems to fix issue. shifting into second gear, seemed to fix issue. shifting into neutral, power cycling car seemed to fix issue. over the last 6 months or so, this has happened ~2x month. *tr

While traveling down the highway, our transmission stopped working. we had it towed to the local honda shop and the confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced and it would cost aprox. $5,800.00. 37 months ago honda replaced the transmission the 1st time because of a recall. when we spoke to honda, they told us they did not warranty recalls. so, now our primary source of transportation for our family is now worth $500.00. we think honda either replaced the recalled transmission with an inferior product to save money, or used the same recalled transmission to replace our factory transmission. if we had known there was no warranty on recalled repairs, we would have done things differently. *tr

Purchased this honda new in december 2006. no problems with it till this incident. both back wheels started making terrible noises. a grinding and screeching sound at all speeds. i asked a few friends who have the same vehicle and they said they had to replace both rear bearings on their vehicle. i took the vehicle to the honda dealer and that is exactly what it was. both rear bearings. i can hardly imagine one bearing going bad on a modern vehicle. both bearings tells me something is wrong with the product. i believe this could be a significant and dangerous problem for all honda odyssey's on the road. it is clearly a defective rear bearing. i contacted honda regarding this and the representative i spoke with said there was currently no recall regarding this. they were very polite and pleasant to deal with. i expressed my concern, but feel that effort was inadequate. i also searched for this issue on a couple of automobile forums online. i found hundreds of references to this issue. so i do not believe it is an isolated incident. thank you for ensuring that our roads and the vehicles we drive remain safe! please feel free to contact me with any questions. *tr

I am getting a thud sound from the back of my 2007 odyssey mini van. we called honda and they said they have had several people come in with this. they found that there is a glazing that happens with the brakes and they said they have to grind the drums and it makes it go away for awhile. they said if the brake shoes are ok it would run about $200.00. this is crazy if they have a problem with the brakes other than wear and tear they should fix it for free. i have put two sets of brakes on this van since i bought it and i have never had brakes go so fast. i believe they have a very poor design. if i had not bought the extended warranty i would have been out 1000 of dollars with all the problem this 2007 honda has had. if i had it to do over again i would not buy another honda. the windshield whistles, the transmission part had to be replaced, the compressor melted, the battery went dead on a trip before a year was up. the bearings in the wheels went bad. the axle went bad. the right rear door motor went bad. the left rear door will open part way and shut. all in all honda has gone down hill. $37,000 and its a piece of junk. thank god other than the brakes the dealer has been very very good and has fixed everything at least once. *tr

Car hesitates on downshift at 40 and 20 mph. on 6/26/11 i brought car into local honda dealer to have a manufacturer product update addressed that was targeting this transmission judder issue. dealer performed a software update which proved to be ineffective. on 9/7/11 i went back to the dealer to have them check the software update again since the transmission judder was still present. the dealer told me that they would charge me $115 to look at the car, not including cost of any repairs. since honda's product update notification indicated this update should be free of charge and the dealer was intending to charge me, i left the dealership in anger without having them look at the car. on 11/19/11 i brought car back in because the issue was still present and agreed to pay their diagnosis fee of $115. they recognized the problem and flushed the transmission fluid to try to resolve. on 12/17/11 the issue was still not corrected so i brought the car in again. the dealer recognized that there was a problem but said it was "slight" and that i should continue to drive the car until the problem became more pronounced. this, despite the fact that honda's documentation says driving the car without having this issue fixed could damage the transmission. honda's product update letter to the dealer indicated torque converter should be replaced if software update wasn't effective, but the dealer refused to do that. 12/19/11 i brought the car in again out of dissatisfaction with the conclusion of the 12/17/11 visit. dealer again attempted a software update, which again proved to be ineffective. on 2/6/12, i contacted american honda to explain the history. i am now being asked to pay for part of this repair, which would have been free of charge to me had the dealer addressed it during one of my initial visits. i don't feel i should incur any cost for this update. *tr

I noticed the vibration on our honda odyssey about 2 months ago. then a month ago, had our prepaid service done and asked them to check the vibration and they said it's normal. then after that i received a recall notice for the vibration and that the van needed a computer update. so had that done 3 days ago (6/27/11) and still vibrated. brought it back again today (6/30/11), told them it needed a new torque converter and if they can check the motor mounts and they said it needed new tires and a computer update again to fix the problem. so, did that and still had the vibration issue. i am so frustrated and angry. so i brought it back after driving it for about 1 mile and told them again, that it's not fixed. so now i'm seeking some sort of assistance and compensation for all the time and money wasted..thanks *tr

The vehicle is burning 1 quart of oil in between 600 and 800 miles. i now change the oil every 3000 miles. the computer still shows that i have upwards of 40% of the oil life remaining when changing the oil.my mechanic(not honda dealership) has tried contacting honda but gets no solution. i have tried contacting dealer but they say that a quart of oil every 600 miles is normal. car stalls out when under 2 quarts of oil. honda recalled years after my odyssey with same issue but has not recalled my year. same engine and computer, same problem. *tr

I own a 2007 honda odyssey ex-l. last may, i received two separate recall notices for pcm update for lock-up clutch function and for low and soft brake pedal. there was a delay in taking my van to a dealer because i was on a military deployment. my deployment ended last month and that's when i took my van to get service (recalls). a month had past since i took my van for the recall but the break problem still persist and i think it's getting worst. the breaks is very soft and the pedal is very low when i step on it. sometimes i have to pump my brakes twice just to feel the brake. i sent honda customer service a letter requesting another authorization to have my brakes check and service again. honda's solution to fix the problem did not work. the honda dealer bled, seal and cap the brake system on my van but it did not solve the problem. this issue should be look at again before someone gets hurt or lose their lives. *tr

Extreme pressure had to be applied to the brakes, in order to get the vehicle to slow down on a downhill road at the same time the clutch shuddered, it not only shuddered, but it made the entire vehicle shake and rattle as if it were falling apart. scared to take the vehicle on long run. also vehicle shakes sometimes during normal braking action. *tr

2007 honda odyssey ' decelerated on its own. while driving at about 30 mph the vehicle accelerated quickly and decelerated quickly on its own. the incident lasted about 3 seconds. it did not come to full stop. the recall for the brakes for this model was installed on 6/15/10 by the dealership. this incident occurred days later on 6/20/10. the very same issue happened 2 times before about 18 months ago. the car was taken to the dealership but no issue was found. *tr

Transmission shudder persists after three software updates and torque converter replacement. warranty expires at 60k, currently at 57k. dealer has expressed frustration in dealing with honda of america in finding a resolution to the problem. before torque converter was replaced the dealer had to take a "snapshot" of the rpm difference between the engine and transmission. after torque converter replacement and third software update the difference is greater. hoa now states the rpm difference is within normal range. when asked why the lesser amount reported before was enough to warrant a replacement of torque converter and now no further service is needed, hoa had no answer. *tr

A transmission judder is felt while driving between 20-45 mph and i did receive a safety recall notice from honda automobile division regarding that subject upon which i scheduled an appointment with an authorized dealer to fix the problem but he has failed to remedy the defect in my vehicle and the vehicle is still defected. *tr

Failure of transmission due to (in dealer's words) "a crack or porous metal casing." this is at least the third repair of the transmission. two previous episodes of transmission fluid leakage were deemed by the dealer "caused by a loose bolt." the first time shortly after vehicle delivery bolt was tighten, second time bolt was tighten and set with lock tight which required overnight stay at dealer service center. third time, entire transmission is being replaced- being covered under dealer supplied powertrain warranty with a $25 deductible. *tr

2007 honda odyssey ex-l-transmission is shuddering while driving at 30-40 mph. the problem seems to happen when i slow down then press on the gas again. it feels like i am driving over railroad tracks. i also noticed that it happened today for the first time at 55 mph. i also notice that the car "pulls" back slightly when i am driving at higher speeds--it feels like i am letting my foot off the gas pedal, but i am not. i took the van into a honda dealership on may 8, 2010. they updated the software and said that the van was running fine, but it is still giving me problems. i will be taking it back to honda of serramonte in daly city, ca on may 22, 2010. i am not happy--the power train warranty expires at 60, 000 miles--van has 57,600 miles. i hope honda will take care of my problems before my warranty expires! *tr

2007 honda odyssey. full transmission replaced after only approximately 27,000 miles. i now have approximately 33,500 miles and same problem with transmission has begun. noticeable flutter at approximately 35 mph and a serious shifting downgrade at 20 mph when foot is off accelerator. was told by dealer they would update computer and if that doesn't work then they would most likely have to replace the torque conversion. *tr

Transmission juddering and hesitates between 30mph-50mph. this has become a very dangerous situation when entering the highway or making maneuvers that requires a quick increase in speed. the hesitation and juddering creates a very large vibration through the entire minivan. our odyssey has had two software updates and it appears the torque converter will need to be replaced next. this issue has been happening since it had 5,000 miles. we complained about this issue at the 10k service, however, the dealer said that the issue was probably fuel related. however, one service manager at a local honda dealership told us it is most likely a transmission issue and there was no known fix for it at the time. since then honda has identified two software updates that are required to correct the problem and if this does not fix the problem the torque converter will need to be replaced next. what we have also been told is that if the torque converter has been bad for a long period of time it will start putting out metal shavings that will get into the gears of the transmission, which will eventually damage the transmission. however, honda will not cover a new transmission unless it can be proven that the transmission is damaged, this is very difficult to do unless the transmission is truly showing signs of failure or enough oil shavings can be found in the transmission oil. it seems that the consensus is that odysseys with this problem will most likely have a shorten life span of their transmission. we have less than 40,000 miles on our odyssey. my opinion is honda is trying patch a problem that requires major surgery with band aids, hoping they can get beyond their required responsibility under the powertrain warranty. i guess until someone gets hurt or killed, this will not be taken seriously. this is a shame we have owned a honda or acura for the last twenty years and their reputation has been excellent. *tr

We had owned a 2007 odyssey for one week when we noticed judder upon normal acceleration. also we felt unusually hard transmission shifts when slowing. vehicle has 59,000 miles. very poor gas mileage. took it to a honda dealership which confirmed the above symptoms and replaced the torque converter. after torque converter replacement, problem persists. *tr

2007 odyssey, bought on 18 jan 2010 from dch academy honda, old bridge, nj as a used vehicle. on the same week reported that there is problem in transmission. when accelerating at 40mph to 50mph, there a vibration observed constantly and transmission is getting locked at 1.5rpm and not getting accelerating. when it got reported to used car department, mechanic was keep on saying that it is intended behavior while accelerating and because of big vehicle. i was not agreed and concern was passed on to the service manager in service department. service manager after going through the test drive and service bulletins, he is told that there need to be software upgrade needed to solve this problem. software upgrade is performed on this vehicle. now the vibration is little bit reduced, but the problem is still exists. again i had an appointment for test drive and there were two service managers tested this vehicle and after regressive test along with them, they agreed that vibration at 40-50mph speed and 1.5-2rpm torque. now they said there is a problem with torque converter in automatic transmission and need to be replaced after getting the part from honda. i am not totally confident that replacement of torque converter can solve this problem. they are just making some patch to temporarily mask the main problem in transmission. it will cost me more once my power train warranty gets expired. this problem may cause failure of transmission and may cause accident at run time. *tr
