We have classified the 43 complaints from 2006 Honda Odyssey about ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING into the following categories.
I own a 2006 honda odyssey and i have been having many problems with this vehicle. the most recent problem is with my ac. it worked one day and the very next day it stopped working. given the fact that i ve had previous problems, i decided to google the internet just to see if anyone else have been having similar problems. and sure enough i came across many others that have been experiencing the same problems. *tr
I bought a new 2006 honda odyssey ex rear dvd and navigation van. a few days back (at 26,000miles and less than 3yrs), there was smoke coming from the engine of the car... i quickly pulled over called the dublin honda, ca dealer. they advised me to tow the car to the dealership. after i that i was advised that the a/c condenser has a hair-pin size hole (not visible to naked eye) and that's the problem. they told me that this is not covered by honda bumper to bumper warranty.. i was shocked to hear that. i had to pay $880.76 for this repair for a $40,000.00 van which is still under factory warranty.... this is ridiculous.. honda put the condenser at the wrong place (without a front guard) and make its customers pay for its ridiculous design.. in the new models now they have put a guard to protect the condenser. i urge you to fine honda for this and have them issue a recall on their faulty design of which thousands have been victim. *tr
The front end of my honda was hit by a rock on the freeway. saw it fly in front of me but didn't hear it hit anything. when i got to my destination front end was smoking/steaming. found the rock had punctured my ac condenser. $600 to fix. (of course honda wont cover it. but my insurance did) my complaint is there is no protection down there for such an expensive item. how much could it have cost honda to put some kind of screen protection down there? *tr
My husband and i purchased a brand new odyssey van in june 2006. absolutely love the van. we have had no problems until we realized our air conditioner wasn't working recently in may 2008. our van only has 24,000 miles on it. i called fairfield performance honda service and was told if it is a rock that damaged the condenser it is not covered. i said a rock and she replied yes rocks can damage the condenser. my husband and i never heard such thing. without honda even looking at my van they already knew exactly what was wrong. so that day i got a phone call from service and sure enough they said a rock has damaged your condenser and it would not be covered because that is consider road debris and it will cost you 800.00. the service person said they see this every week and then he said i mean once a month so i was curious and got on the internet to see if anybody else have had the same problem and sure enough hundreds complaints with the same problem. i contacted honda america corp and they said sorry it is not covered because it is road debris damage. it?s not my fault and thousands of other consumers fault that they poorly designed the honda odysseys and honda accords. i noticed on the new 2008 vans and cars they have a protection on the front now. but that?s not fair for all the people who have purchased a van or car 2007 or earlier. i think that they should have a recall on this matter and fix the problem. i didn't pay $30,000.00 for a van to have this problem. they need to put some kind of protection on the van so it doesn't happen again. i just want to let all other consumers beware of this so they don?t make the same mistake we did. i am contacting the consumer report, better business bureau all news media and papers until this problem is taking care of. thank you, lisa *tr
During driving in highway, oil cap detached from its place, entered radiator fan box and brook the radiator. as a result the cruise control released itself, check engine indicator and vsa indicator was lit. the car towed to the nearest honda dealer. *tr
I have a newer 2006 honda odyssey minivan with only 6000 miles. the air conditioner no longer works (blows warm air). was told that a rock hit the condenser unit - and it is not covered under warranty. searching around the internet, i find that hundreds and hundreds of other 2005-2007 honda odyssey owners have come across the same problem. the problem is that the ac condenser coils are exposed under the front grill. any little rock or debris can/will puncture the ac lines - causing the refrigerant to leak. this is a common problem and it's costing us $700+ dollars to fix. honda must realize that this is a problem with the 2005-2007 odysseys since they now include a grill guard on the 2008 model. honda should retro fit the 2005-2007 odyssey will some grill protection screen to prevent this from happening. this is a design flaw that should be addressed. we, as owners of a new minivan, shouldn't have to pay another $700+ to have the air conditioner fixed when we've only driven the van for as short as 4000 miles. honda can remedy this with a very simple fix. *tr
I have a 2006 ex-l honda odyssey with 11000 miles on it. i haven't driven it much yet. i've noticed that my a/c has stopped working. i took it to the dealership. they told me that a rock has hit a a/c condenser and freon has leaked out and it's not covered under warranty and would cost me $960. i called american honda at 1-800-999-1009 to complain but they rejected my claim. i'm seeing numerous complaints online with same issue. i don't think it's a coincidence, but rather a problem with the design. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle shut off. the failure occurred more than five times, twice while making a turn. the contact was able to shift into neutral, which allowed the vehicle to immediately restart. the most recent failure occurred while driving approximately 30 mph. he had an appointment to take the vehicle to the dealer at the time of the complaint. the manufacturer referred him to the dealer. the current mileage was approximately 41,000 and failure mileage was approximately 29,000. updated 03/04/09. *lj the fuel pump relay was replaced. updated 03/04/09. *jb
I have had my 2006 honda odyssey for one year when the air conditioner went out. the dealer determined the refrigerant leaked out due to a small hole in the condenser coil. the hole came from a small rock or other object that was kicked up while driving. the problem is that the coil is up front, below the front license plate, and fully exposed to road hazards. the design defect has caused problems for hundreds of others according to the information on various web sites. the dealer advised it will cost $700 to repair and is not covered under warranty. they suggested i contact my insurance company. i filed a complaint with american honda (case# n012007-08-2400679) but have not heard back from them. the dealers service manager claims to have called american honda as well and was told it was not covered. *tr
I have a 2006 honda odyssey ex-l with fewer than 15k miles on it. i t took it to the deal because antifreeze was leaking out of it. the dealer informed me that the antifreeze was leaking out of my radiator. the dealer attributed this to a stone hitting the radiator and causing the leak. this seems to be a design flaw in the 2006 odyssey. this could have been a lot worse as i was able to safely pull off of the road. had this happened at highway speed, the engine could have seize due to lack of coolant and i could have lost control of the vehicle causing a serious wreck and possible injury to me, my passengers or others. i recommend that the nhtsa take action on behalf of all consumers who own this vehicle to force a recall from honda to fix this issue. *tr
2006 honda odyssey. consumer writes in regards to defective part in rear motor mounts *tgw the consumer stated honda was aware of the problem. instead of correcting the problem they were passing the cost to the consumer. the consumer stated he started complaining about the vibration problem in july 2007. despiteseveral trips to the dealership, without fully getting the problem resolved the rear motor mounts were never looked at until the van was out of warranty. the consumer was then informed it would cost $1000 to repair a problem that honda was well aware of. the consumer also stated he was charged $26.00 to un-twist the passenger side seat belt. the dealer stated seat belt don't twist by themselves. two weeks later, after limited use of the set belt, it twisted again. *jb the power steering pump was replaced. updated 10/04/11
I own a 2006 honda odyssey ex-l. on wednesday june 20, 2007 i noticed that my air conditioner was no longer putting out cold air. i also noticed at this time that my temp gauge was over to the hot line. i immediately shut off my engine and let it cool. once i restarted it immediately went back to the hot position. once i made it home i shut off the engine and noticed that the fan continued to run and the car was emitting a burning rubbery smell. i called the honda dealership and told them about this. i asked about this being covered under warranty and the technician stated that if for some reason there was a rock in there that my warranty would not cover it but i had no concern because i thought this was rare. it was towed to the honda dealership and they called me the next morning stating that there were rocks in my radiator and that my warranty would not cover it and it was going to cost me over $700 to get it fixed. i did some research and talked with honda again and they said that they see this alot. they showed me my radiator and three rocks that they pulled out of it saying that these are what caused my problem. they asked if they could fix the radiator while they had the parts in stock and i said yes knowing that i need my car asap. i later called the dealership again to question the incident with the rocks because i talked with another mechanic and he said that this should not happened that easily. they still have the old radiator. the level of courtesy and customer service that i have received from honda has dramatically dropped since i have been investigating this issue. this morning, sunday july 1, 2007 i decided to do some internet research on honda odyssey's and this rock problem and i was amazed and appalled at how much this happens and how much honda has just ignored this design flaw. i feel that a design flaw allowing your engine to overheat can put you at risk for a major engine fire and possibly death and honda has chosen to ignore this. *tr
2006 honda odyssey purchase new - approx. 20,000 miles at time - $600 to replace air condenser. something flew up from the road and put a hole in my air condenser. when i took it to the dealer they commented that it was a design flaw and the grill did not properly protect the condenser but this was not a warranty issue. dealer cost for repair would have been $800. i paid a local mechanic $600. *tr
I have an 06' honda odyssey that just had its a/c unit go out. the honda dealer says its due to a rock hitting the condenser and will cost $1000 to fix it. i think this should be a recall due to the many owners having the same problem @http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/honda-odyssey *tr
I have owned my honda odyssey minivan for a little over a year. the ac wasn't working, and i have been told that a "rock or pebble" must have hit the condenser causing a puncture. the part alone is $790, and honda is refusing to cover under warranty. there are multiple complaints regarding this issue from other owners as the condenser lies low to the ground. honda is covering "some" people's costs, but not others. i feel this is likely a manufacturer defect that needs to be fixed, and covered under warranty. there is currently no grille or protection for the condenser. *tr
I was advised when i first had the oil changed (6/06) in my 2006 honda odyssey (purchased 10/05) that there was apparently an oil leak from the engine. i then took the van to the honda dealer in springfield, il. where i purchased it, and i was told the problem was with the oil pan seal. this seal was then changed. when the oil was again changed in late december, '06, there again was an oil leak noted from the engine. after some testing, the honda dealer first said he would have to remove the transmission to identify the source of the leak. they thought it would take about a day or so to repair. the next day, i was told he would have to order a "part" which would take about a week to receive. after complaining to honda usa, i was told that the problem was a cracked engine block and that they would have to replace/repair the engine with a new "short block" from honda. the dealer was only willing to let me use a honda civic as a "loaner" for my van, but after further complaints to honda usa, they arranged for me to get a rented van from enterprise. they have also agreed to give me a six year extended warranty for the vehicle. as of this day, i am awaiting the repair/return of my odyssey. *jb
A/c problem 6 months after purchase. we purchased a new 2006 honda odyssey in june 2006, and in december we started having a/c problems. it was diagnosed as having a hole in the a/c condensor which the honda dealer stated to be caused by a rock. the van had less than 11,000 miles on it, and we purchased an extended warranty when we bought the van. surely, the original warranty or the extended warranty should cover such a problem, but honda said no. being only 6 months old, we find it very frustrating to have to pay for something like this when it appears to be a design flaw by honda. the a/c condensor is just sitting there exposed to all the elements of the road with no grill in front of it. the american honda rep agreed to pay half as a "good will gesture". it still cost us $275 for the repair. lots of others are having the same issue with honda odesseys as seen on the internet. honda should be forced to recall these vehicles and install a screen in front of the condensor to protect it, and should be forced to reimburse everyone any money spent to correct this problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the vehicle would vibrate violently when driving between 30-40 mph. the dealer diagnosed that the motor mounts would need to be replaced. the manufacturer denied any assistance with repair to the failure. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 70,026.
Less than 48k miles on our 2006 honda odyssey and the crank shaft has had to be replaced and a motor mount. the motor mount was over $1,000. these types of failures should not be seen on a vehicle this new. honda just says "sorry." *tr
2006 honda odyssey. air conditioning condenser damaged by road debris and required replacing the condenser. dealer stated damage was caused by road hazard/debris and so was not covered by warranty. the condenser is very exposed on front bottom of vehicle with no protection from flying debris. similar event has occurred to many owners of 2006 odysseys. honda should be held liable/responsible to provide a product to protect the condenser on this model. the 2008 odyssey comes with a grill covering the condenser. so it is obvious they are aware of the old bad design. *tr
Purchased honda odyssey from leith honda, raleigh, nc june 2006. from the beginning, experienced a vibration (motor) at approximately 1500 rpm when under load, at any speed. the service advisor at the dealer said there was no problem indicated in the computer and that everything was normal, but the problem still exists.(previously reported 12/26/06) *jb
