We have classified the 59 complaints from 2006 Honda Odyssey about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Vehicle has a approximately 140,000 mi. while driving on freeway at 65 mph.transmission torque converter lockup malfunctioned and went into neutral. had to coast across 4 lanes of traffic to exit. when speed permitted shift down to wnd and qstacks gear and was able to limp into a parkin* lot. had to have car towed to a transmission facility. pulled the transmission dip stick and smelled the fluid which emitted a very pungent smell. the fluid was not black. the fluid had been changed 15- 20,000 mi earlier. when talking to mechanic he told me almost exactly how many m8les he thought the car had because he had seen so many honda's with exactly this same problem. i believe that honda did not design this transmission properly to last with proper maintenance and fluid changes.
Transmission is not shifting property specifically in the r gear
I was driving fine, all of a sudden, the engine just completely shut down and there was no power. turn on again, it worked. drive for 2 miles, it totally shup down again. no power, nothing.
Power tran failed. missing fire 3 spark plugs rear side engine.
The car stalled in the middle of the road. it stalled when traveling at 55 mph creating a danger on the road. per mechanic, the transmission failed. the mileage on the vehicle is less than 150,000 miles.
Takata recall i own a 2006 honda odessey and the torc converter is failing will driving. honda has a complaint failed against them for no addressing this issue..
Transmission failure at 100,065 miles. original owner with all service checks done at dealer. research indicates this is a far too common problem in honda odysseys. cost to repair over $4,000. feel the deal should replace for free or significantly reduced rate.
I drove my honda minivan for 10 years and one day i was pulling into a parking space at work and when i stepped on the brake to slow down the car, it suddenly accelerated so fast that it hit the wall and set off the air bag. the car was totaled and i had burns from the the airbag on my neck and arm.
For starters i had transmission rebuit and its needs replaced again this is at 120000 miles then at 135000 miles. i havent got it replaced yet, but my mechanic gave me the warning. also said all odysseys transmissions fail.like its a ongoing problem. number 2. my passengerfront door gets stuck and you cant open ot even though its unlocked. 3..the middle seat second row the small seat that unlatches, unlatches while driving.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle jerked and the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the front brakes. in addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate and the rpms increased. the vsc and abs warning lights illuminated on the instrument cluster. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the front brakes needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 156,400.
I bought my 06 odyssey touring edition in 2015. i am the second owner and it only had 115,000 miles on it. i had no problems at first and then soon after started having a shuttering problem around 45 mph. i had a saturn vue with the same problem and had the same motor and transmission as my honda. chevrolet did a recall on it i brought it in the reprogrammed and recalibrated it no problems after that. so when my honda started i brought it to the dealer to see if there was a recall and they said not on my vin. so i asked how much to reprogram and recalibrate and the told me that if it does not have a new update then they could not do it (which i know is bull since we own a mechanic shop and deal with things like this all the time). i do not have the $3000 plus to fix the torque converter and feel if other vehicle with same transmissions have been recalled then this one should be too!!!
I took my van in to wilde honda on 9/17/14 for a recall on the fuel pump nodule. the day i picked it up, i noticed a very loud sound from my engine. i had a friend drive the car the afternoon of 9/26/14 to see if he could understand what was wrong with it. when he got in to drive it, my check engine light was on, my d light was blinking and the car will not shift out of second gear. additionally, the transmission fluid smells like it is burning. i have now had a mechanic review it and the transmission has completely failed and i need to have a new one put in. *tr
My odyssey needs a complete transmission overhaul, and will cost more than $3,000.00. i always thought that japanese vehicles are durable, reliable, and long-lasting, with toyota being one of the best, but honda being the best of the best. now, i am very disappointed with honda. i am hoping for honda to recall the transmission for the odyssey. i have 4 friends that have the same problem with their own odysseys. and my auto mechanic disclosed to me that this is a regular and consistent problem that is brought to him by his customers. please recall the odyssey transmission to relieve us of the financial burden, and to regain our confidence to honda vehicles. thank you. *tr

I noticed an oil leak on the vehicle. when taken to the mechanic he found that the spool valve is leaking. the honda dealer informed us that there are no replacement parts available. the oil is leaking on the exhaust manifold and is a very possible fire hazard. this is a family vehicle and this issue is a very serious one. *tr
Engine vibrating violently at speeds of 35-40 mph and when rpm are between 1,500 to 2,000. the possible causes are faulty engine mounts, transmission, or engine. honda replaced the power steering due to problems. i also replaced the run flat tires with non run flat because the run flat last only 1 year. i want to vibration to be resolved. the vibration appears to be a manufacturer defect according to online honda owners groups. *tr
On my way to work on january 14, 2014, as i was getting up to speed (from 0 to 20), the engine revved around 2000 rpm, the transmission would not engage 2nd gear. i backed off the gas pedal and the transmission engaged. the check engine light lit up and i drove it to a honda dealership. the service department said that their diagnostic revealed an internal issue with the transmission and would need replacement. i have owned 7 hondas since 1983, and i have never had this type of problem. the van is at a local transmission shop rebuilding the transmission for $1500, honda wanted $5300. the van has been well maintained over the years and i'm very surprised that the transmission would go at 141,000 miles, but transmission issues appears to be a problem with the odyssey lineup over the years. unfortunately, i was not made aware of these issues prior to purchase. disappointing. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact was driving approximately 55 mph when a burning odor was present in the vehicle. the contact stated that white smoke was coming from under the rear and front of the vehicle. the vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic, who determined that a faulty valve in the transmission caused the defect. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and no solution was offered. the failure mileage was 142,000.
Vehicle shudders while accelerating and worse with turning left onto freeway onramps etc. causes some difficulty steering and need to enter freeway at very slow speed disrupting traffic. *tr
I was backing up in my honda when i stopped to see if i was going to hit something. i am sure i put my vehicle in park, started to exit the van on the drivers side, i was the driver, and realized that the van was moving backwards. i had my left foot on the ground before i knew i was moving. the drivers door hit me and i was on the black top hitting my face and knees, my right leg was under the van and the left front tire tore up my right leg. my drivers door closed and i yelled for help which several people came to my aid. the people was able to shut off my van and they lifted the van off my leg. i was taken to the hospital where they stitched up my leg and took several x rays, i had no broken bones. it took 3 months for my wounds to heal and my knee still has a lot of pain. *tr
Driving at 50 mph on a friday night. my van suddenly gave a loud explosive sound and the cabin filled up with smoke and i could not breathe or see properly. i wondered what was going on and quickly pulled up on the side of the road. it took me some time to get out of the van since i am disabled. my husband had to literally speaking, carry me out and sat me on the side of the road. passers by had already called 911 when they noticed what was going on. the police, ambulance and fire dept came. the fire dept determined that my van was smoking heavily and they took care of the fire in my engine when they opened the hood. the van was towed to the dealership and they informed me that my transmission was defective. the only problem was that this will then be the third transmission in a van that is less than 8 years old. i had a similar problem in july 2011 at 80,000 miles and the transmission was replaced then with promises from honda that i was good for another 5 years. so when this problem occurred exactly 2 years to the time that the second transmission was replaced, i reported the problem to honda and they want me to pay for a third transmission. this is despite the fact that i always serviced my van with the dealership. it has never been serviced with the local repair shop. i am still making car payments on my van and they want me to pay for a new transmission? i will appreciate an investigation on why honda is allowed to sell lemons to consumers even though they are aware of transmission problems on the odyssey vans. smoke and fire due to recurring transmission problems on the same van is a safety issue. i pray that no one will be killed or injured due to recurring transmission problems with honda odyssey vans. thanks in advance for your assistance in protecting and ensuring consumer safety as we drive our cars. *tr
I am writing you in reference to my honda odyssey that was purchased in october 2006. in august of this year (2013) the transmission stopped working. i had to have the van towed to an auto shop in vermont to get fixed. the shop had to do a transmission rebuild. the transmission rebuilt cost me three thousand and four hundred and sixty-three dollars ($3463.00). i spoke with the owner of the auto shop and he advised me that honda odyssey's are known to have transmission problems. i also verified this information on-line. *tr
Honda transmission failed at 67k miles. transmission is still with the 3yrs/ 36k warranty in term of the year but over the mileage by 31k miles. honda transmissions are very unreliable and the company does not acknowledge this transmission problem. *tr
The 2006 honda odyssey has 100,600 miles, we were driving approx 75 mph on the freeway, and the rpm's increased greatly but the vehicle suddenly lost speed in heavy traffic. soon, white smoke appeared from the front as we coasted to the nearest exit approx 1 mile away. it turns out the transmission failed without warning. all regularly scheduled maintenance on the vehicle was performed. transmission failure with just 100k miles. we were fortunate to avoid an accident in heavy traffic. *tr
Recently it has started lugging between 15 and 20 miles an hour and the lugging is often preceded by a whining sound. spoke with honda mechanic who said there could be an issue with torque converter and need to be replaced. *tr
My odyssey lost power/wouldn't accelerate/wouldn't shift as we approached the top of a 7% grade. we pulled over, shut the car off and checked fluids etc.. everything was fine. we tried to get going again and the van wouldn't go. we sat for about an hour and tried again, and the van got going again perfectly fine. we were able to get to honda when it broke down again. honda diagnosed it with a bad transmission/torque converter. the atf fluid was burnt (my odyssey has the atf fluid cooler too). the tech said the vcm (eco mode, variable cylinder management) increases the load/stress on the vehicle and is a contributing factor of the break down. my odyssey has been meticulously maintained at honda y honda specs/recommendations. i had no previous indication my trans was going out (no gear slipping anything. it drove fine up until it broke down) i called american honda for assistance in the repair, and they failed to even offer any sort of help. from what i've googled, honda odysseys have common trans/torque converter issues and american honda is well aware of the problems on the odysseys. after this, i will not buy another honda. *tr
The transmission is gone because of an inherent design problem in the transmission. because the transmission fluid pump stops working correctly inside the transmission, the pressure is too low and the transmission grinds itself up. the car will slip out of gear and stop moving. there is nothing i could have done about it in preventative maintenance. i have to replace the transmission at a cost of approximately $4000 or more. this should not happen under normal conditions after 7 years even if the car has 150,000 miles on it. *tr
Have had intermittent vibration coming from engine compartment. primarily occurs at any speed when the vcm or eco mode activates. not sure what other issues this may cause but seems unsafe. honda dealer diagnosed issue as a broken rear engine mount. cost to repair is $866. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that while driving 50 mph, burning fumes started to emit into the vehicle. the contact mentioned that the transmission was slipping. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 93,699 and the current mileage was 110,000.
Transmission continues to shudder at 50 mph. it looks like it shutters until you hit the gas or let off. if you are coasting on flat ground, steady at the same speed, it will do it until you let off the gas or hit the gas harder. *tr
Transmission hunts between 4th and 5th gear during acceleration causing surges in the rpm and the car. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the vehicle would shake excessively and would not accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the dealer informed the contact that there was an internal transmission failure and advised her to replace the transmission. the manufacturer had not been notified of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 91,155.
Transmission failed 3 weeks after a botched timing belt work by honda dealer. required replacing 3 valves and reconditioning of engine head. *tr
Front and side motor mount failure. *tt
Vibration and noise from engine or tansmission whenever car goes into eco mode. does it at all speeds. dealer confirmed that the car needs new engine mounts. seems like ex-l and tourings have the same issue!!!! faulty mounts, bad design! dealer qoted $2000 to fix. dont have money to cover the cost as i just had a baby. *tt
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 honda odyssey. the contact was driving 65 mph when the vehicle rapidly decelerated to 20 mph. the contact depressed the accelerator but the vehicle would not accelerate beyond 65 mph. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the transmission would have to be replaced. the dealer did not give a reason for the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the current and the failure mileage was 106,000.
I was driving on my way back from cleveland ohio. noticed a shaking feeling on a transmission shifting gear. i looked it up on the internet and there is a ton of people with the same complaint :( *tr
my 5 year old honda odyssey with only 68475 miles has o faulty front engine mount. and i believe this is a predominant problem with 05-2009 year odysseys. it can be a safety issue and would be nice if honda issued a recall. *tr
Transmission failed after 84,000 miles. transmission shudders between gears at various speeds when accelerating. reverse also does not engage and appears to exhibit slippage. *kb
The van seems to stutter at low speeds usually 30-35mph. lately the it has issue has worse and is experiencing problems at highway speeds. *tr
The honda odyssey van we have started to shift hard and when it would change into gears i would feel a big thump it is a automatic with over drive. *tr
While driving at 40 mph. the steering wheel shakes hard for about 4 sec. *tr
Car shudders when shifting gears at lowers speeds(20-40). *tr
I'm the original owner of a honda odyssey 2006 ex-l, i have religiously maintained it and have used honda filters, oils and lubricants, have done oil changes every 7,500 per honda maintenance schedule and replaced tranny fluid every 15,000 miles, especially after knowing this has been an issue with previous odyssey's and current ones. at 52,000 miles i had to replace a broken motor mount (known issue that honda won't acknowledge) thankfully extended warranty covered it. at 90,700 (my extended warranty expired at 85,200 miles) my transmission started making a whining noise (i have had 2 independent mechanics and a honda dealership verify the tranny is going south). in addition to the motor mount and transmission issues, this vehicle has had recalls to replace front brake pads, brake master "o" ring, power steering pump and paint peeling. for a $33k vehicle, it sure is a lemon. *tr
Travelling on vaction on freeway at 100km ( 60 mph ) when my transmission went on my honda odyssey. smoke from under hood, engine started to rev up and tacometer reved up bascially enough function to pull over to the side of freeway. we had towed to honda where i was informed that my vehicle that i havent even owned for 5yrs at the time and only 120000km (75000miles) that the transmission was gone and would cost me $5000 to repair. we had our van towed back to our local dealer (2hrs away and across us boarder back to canada) where they charged us $3700 do to us keeping up with all services. after all cost to have returned home and our family of six returned home i paid $4500 out of my pocket on a vehicle im still making $600 a month payments on. unaccceptable. *tr
2006 honda odyssey transmission problem, my car won't go into reverse. *tt
Sudden acceleration. motor began racing at a stop sign, at first thought that my vehicle's brakes had failed as it lurched forward. was able to put neutral and turn off engine. *tr
