Srs airbag warning light came on and stays on. when we had this checked at our local honda dealer, thelen honda (bay city, mi), we were told that the srs unit has an internal malfunction would need to be replaced at a cost of about $650 to us. we have had all routine service completed at the honda dealer since we purchased the van. recently, our 2002 honda civic was recalled for an airbag defect and this was remediated at the same dealer under the honda recall. this would seem to be a company systemic manufacturing defect worthy of manufacturer recall and replacement. *tr

I purchased four goodyear assurance touring p225/60 r16 97t tires at sam's club in march 2011. these were installed on 2003 honda odyssey lx. vehicle, including tires, were well maintained; tires were balanced, rotated periodically and monitored biweekly for the correct level of air pressure. the wheels were aligned. the van is non-commercial; only family / personal use. after 26 months and 27900 miles, one of the tires failed unexpectedly while in use. there were no warning signs of impending failure. passenger side rear tire failed by blow-out at 65 mph. vehicle including tires had been subjected to state safety inspection 16 days before the incident and had passed. nothing was noted about the condition of the tires on the occasion of the state inspection. the tires had been visually inspected by driver at the last fuel stop before the incident with nothing out of the ordinary observed. *tr

On friday, february 15th, at approximately 7:00 pm, i was driving our 2003 honda odyssey with my family when we experienced a spontaneous airbag deployment while waiting at a stoplight. there was no one in front or behind us and i was completely stopped at the red light. the driver's side airbag deployed first with a loud "pop". two to three seconds later the passenger side airbag deployed (where my wife was sitting). fortunately, both of us were sitting back in our seats and i had my hands off the steering wheel. neither of us were contacted by the airbags there was a third loud "pop" a couple of seconds after the deployments. the seatbelt tensioners also engaged and now do not function properly. i immediately pulled to the side of the road and confirmed that we had not been struck by anyone or anything. i brought the van into the honda dealership for an inspection, where we had purchased it a little more than two years earlier. the inspection report states that, "during service inspection did not locate any obvious impacts and/or damage." the dealership pulled codes 53-41 and 54-50, but said they could not get anymore information from the srs unit until we had them replace the airbags. the honda dealership then gave us a quote of over $4100 to fix the airbags and seatbelts. i contacted honda of america and asked that the cause for the airbag deployment be investigated further. it took almost a month to get a corporate honda representative to inspect the vehicle at the same dealership as the first inspection. last night i received the results of the second inspection, which gave no potential reasons for the deployment. we left the vehicle at the dealership, asking for more specific documentation on potential causes. my wife and i believe the airbag deployment was the result of a safety defect, and honda of america has refused to remedy the situation. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the air bag sensor illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under recall nhtsa campaign id number: 13v412000 (airbags). however, the failure recurred. also, the contact noticed a seat belt sensor code intermittently illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the seatbelt sensor associated with the air bag malfunctioned. as a result, the independent mechanic referred that the contact to an authorized dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

The srs instrument panel light came on and stays lit, indicating some kind of fault with the supplemental restraint system. i have a 2003 honda odyssey ex and i have become aware of the ongoing investigation (nhtsa action number: pe13020) regarding the deployment of airbags without a crash in this model year and model. i wanted to report that i too have the srs light that has come on and stays lit in my van. i am worried that the airbag will deploy while driving and cause an accident and/or injury to the driver or passenger. *tt

While in route home from post op appt, my 2003 honda odyssey was struck and forced off the highway. we were traveling at 60mph when we were t-boned from vehicle in far left lane. the suv that hit us was traveling faster, hit us a total of 3 times... drivers passenger door, corner of the nose and in the front on the drivers side. not one of my 6 airbags deployed and the seatbelts did not lock. the driver was like a ragdoll during our multiple 360's. the van is a total loss and back and neck pain is constant for both of us. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 honda odyssey. the contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the driver side and passenger side airbags deployed suddenly. he then took the nearest exit when the airbags exploded again for a second time. after that, he got out of the vehicle to make sure that no one had hit him to cause the air bags to deploy but there were no signs of impact. the vehicle was inspected by a dealer who informed the contact that they were unable to diagnose the failure and that it maybe a mechanical failure but that the air bags should not have deployed unless there was an impact. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 67,200.

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda odyssey. the contact stated the frontal air bag lights continues to illuminate. a mechanic reset the air bag light previously and now the light has returned. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer had not been contacted. the failure mileage was 116,000.

Air bag warning light started to turn on and off from time to time. since early 2012, the warning light has stayed on. the current mileage is just over 64000 miles. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 honda odyssey. while driving at 35 mph, another vehicle crashed into the driver side of the contact's vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy. the contact did not disclose if a police report was filed. the contact sustained back and hand injuries that required medical attention. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 47,000.

The check airbag light repeatedly comes on even though it has been in for repair several times. the dealer has "reset" the system, changed the wiring and replaced the passenger side air bag. however, the warning light remains lit. there is something wrong with honda's air bag safety system and they seem to not have the answer for it. *tr

1 month ago, i took my friend to atlanta (about a 5 hr. trip) and the trip went smoothly until i dropped off my friend back in town. as soon as she left the car, i turned on the ignition, and the srs light stayed on . i took the car to the dealership to have it fixed. i don't know why my car acts this strange, , a week later after dealership fixed the problem, , the srs light came on again. so far , 3 times fixed. each time they told me a different diagnostic code for 3 different parts that i should have replaced. so far, i've replaced the driver's side airbag, the opds unit, and the srs harness. yesteday, when my husband drove to store , srs light came back again(exactly one week after 3rd time repaired) but this morning it was off. we made an appointmemt with dealership next tuesday for 4th time attemp.

My honda odyssey (2003 model with 21k miles) have the air-bag system failed for no reason (probably defect in manufacturing). the van has not been involved in any accident. for safety reason, it is imperative to have honda to check airbags function of others. as i know, 2005 odyssey has been recalled for airbag failure. *nm

Summary: wiring problem that could potentially cause air bag deployment when turning steering wheel. the wiring inside the cable reel assembly in the steering column of my 2003 honda odyssey came apart inside. this wiring include srs wiring as well as horn, lighting, and cruise control wiring. upon removal of this part all copper contacts to all wires were exposed and any wire could have shorted to any other wire -- this could potentially cause the steering wheel srs/air bag to be deployed while driving. contacts were constantly being tugged at whenever the steering wheel was turned. because the car has 42,000 miles and honda would not say they would pay to fix it, i repaired this myself in accordance with the honda service manual. i have pictures of the part, and have save the part in a zip-lock bag so that it can be analyzed. *jb

After hitting a tree/road sign front air bags did not deploy. dealership was notifed, but did not resolve the problem. *ak

While driving 45 mph, the driver depressed the brake pedal to slow the vehicle down. the vehicle continued to accelerate which caused a collision with two vehicles that were stopped ahead. the driver had to force the vehicle into park to get the vehicle to stop. the front air bags didn't deploy and the vehicle was declared totaled. *jb *sc

While driving 55 mph, the consumer was approaching heavy traffic when she applied the brakes, they locked up. the consumer rear ended the vehicle in front her, the airbags did not deploy. the police arrived and filed a report. the manufacturer and the dealer was informed of the problem. *ph *cb *jb
