Oil level is 3/8 to 1/2" over the full mark on dip stick. checked it several times before taking it to dealer. oil was also discolored. went to dealer and they said it was normal. i have had several honda's and this is not normal.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor inside the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to autopark honda (located at 3630 old raleigh rd, cary, nc 27511, (919) 467-4747) for an oil change and the dealer diagnosed that there was an engine oil dilution with fuel due to a software setting. the contact was informed that the vehicle was safe to drive and there would be a software update to repair the failure; however, the remedy was not available. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 2,500.
Started noticing engine knocking in the first 500 miles. vehicle only has 2,509 miles mostly freeway driving. purchased april 2018. first drove it in april 409 miles round trip, and then again in may, same mileage and again in august. only started driving it daily to and from work 16 miles round trip in september and it had 1600 miles. i then drove it on october 400 miles round trip and now i smell gasoline in car and it stalled on me while trying to make left turn in intersection. also lights around mirror do not stay on. i don't think i should be smelling gas. not sure what to do.
Purchased this car from keating honda in conroe, tx. since day 1 i have had issues with my lcd screen that controls the audio and climate. about mid september i started having issues with it shutting off along with the lcd screen behind the steering wheel that shows how fast i'm going. dealership aware but had issues with getting loaner so unable to drop off for repair. the screen would flicker and shut off while driving or "audio isn't responding" error shows up and both lcd screens go out while driving. i would start the car and would receive an error message like "anti theft system: this system has lost power. press the power key for more than two seconds to enable the system" ... please fix your [xxx]! i was given a warning in conroe because i was speeding and unaware of my speed due to this issue and it seems to be a daily problem for me. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
This is an addendum to complaint number 11140475. besides a maintenance issue of the oil dilution by gasoline leakage into the crankcase, as reported in that complaint, there is a safety issue with the gasoline mixing with the engine oil on the 1.5 liter turbo. there are raw gasoline fumes in the passenger compartment with the engine running in city traffic. this has caused headaches and nausea to children in the rear passenger seat and problems for the driver as well. the only source of the gas fumes appears to be the gas leakage into the engine.
I have taken my vehicle to the local dealer multiple times over concern with gasoline mixing with the engine oil. on my first visit, they asked me to pay for an oil change and they would mark the level of oil. the dealer verified the changed oil level was exactly at the full line on the dipstick. less than a week later i noticed a strong smell of gasoline and took the vehicle back to the dealership. they checked and verified that the oil level had increased by 1/2" and said they would contact honda tech support. two days later they sent me a message saying this was perfectly normal. i have noticed decreased engine performance and am concerned about stalling and significant engine damage.
At 2600 miles, engine oil level has risen to overfull due to unburned gasoline leaking into lubrication system oil was very thin and watery and would cause premature engine failure. local dealer said they were aware of the problem with crvs with turbo engines, but had no guidance from honda about any long term fix. they changed the oil free of charge
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact noticed a strong odor of fuel near the area of the crank case. there was also an internal leak that caused fuel to enter the oil. the dealer (chapman honda tucson, 4426 e 22nd st, tucson, az 85711, (520) 445-4024) changed the oil, but the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 5,000.
Gas dilution with engine oil causing raise of engine oil level over the maximum limit of dip stick. also strong fuel smell is coming from the dip stick when pull over. so far no fuel smell inside the cabin. drove only 800miles. talked to the dealer about the issue on oct 13 they said it is a known problem for cr v. they are waiting for the honda manufacturer's fix which suppose to come on this november. no engine diagnose and oil change done.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. while the vehicle was being serviced at luther brookdale honda (6800 brooklyn blvd, brooklyn center, mn 55429, (612) 424-7830), the technician noticed a fuel odor on the oil dipstick. the contact was informed to change the oil. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 7,000.
Honda crv 2018 touring. gas leaking into engine oil. had engine oil analyzed at 3370 miles and the fuel dilution was >8%. this will cause major damage to engine. slight smell of gas in cabin. strong smell of gas at dipstick. oil on dipstick showed over fill line. when stopped at railroad crossing heard loud boom then car shook. waiting on response from honda and honda dealer service.
Results of fuel leaking into engine oil .had engine oil analyzed at 3370 miles. it had fuel dilution of >8%. acceptable is no higher than 2.5%. slight gas smell in cabin. dipstick smelled of gas and oil level was higher than full level.this will damage engine. i was stopped at railroad crossing and heard a boom and car shook. unable to get statement from honda or dealer if car safe to drive.
2018 crv-exl purchased on 9/3/18, our 5th honda (3rd crv), currently at 620 miles. we've always been impressed with the reliability of honda vehicles, until recently. last friday (10/8/18), cnn news reported on a consumer reports (cr) article regarding the crv 2018 engine problems, involving fuel mixing w/ engine oil. apparently, there's an issue regarding gas mixing w/ oil in 2017 & 2018 honda crvs with 1.5-liter engines, possibly causing stalling and engine damage. numerous cr and nhtsa complaints involved stalling, loss of power, and smell of gas in the passenger cabin. honda is working on a fix next month. owners are advised to check the oil level on their crvs as it will be higher and less viscous if mixed w/ gas. we checked our crv's oil last night and noticed the strong smell of gas on the dipstick. brought the crv this morning to our honda dealership. service rep reported that their test revealed no gas mixed w/ the oil and that the smell is from a special oil additive that honda uses in new vehicles. we were advised to bring the crv back for an oil change at 1500 miles. rep was not aware of the cr & nhtsa complaints on gas leaking into the engine oil, until we told him. we agreed to bring the crv back for the oil change. called honda to confirm the fix in november and mentioned our visit to the dealership. customer rep insisted that honda does not put any oil additive in the new crvs and that i was miss-informed by the service rep. i was referred to the crv manual on page 572, stating that oil additives may adversely affect the engine performance and durability. i was assured that honda engineers are working on the fix for the problem. i was directed to take my crv to another dealership for a 2nd opinion and oil analysis. we're in the 'wait and see' mode until the fix is deployed next month.
When checking the oil dipstick with a 1.5l turbo engine, i noticed the oil smelled of gasoline and and is not the consistency of engine oil. i did this first after the car sat in the garage overnight and after driving on the highway for 25 minutes 2x in an attempt to 'burn off' the gasoline with the end result being the same.
I purchased this 2018 cr-v awd in january 2018. now as of october 2018, after 10 months of ownership we are experiencing strong smells of fuel inside the cabin everytime we drive on a cold day. the symptoms are in line with the october 2018 consumer reports article on this known issue. i called my dealer on october 15, 2018 and they have noted that honda knows of this issue and does not have a fix. obviously this is a concern for a $30k+ vehicle and that myself and my young children should not be exposed to the smell of fuel everytime we drive the cr-v.
When i pulled out the dipstick to check my engine oil you could smell gasoline on it. there is gas mixing in with the oil. my vehicle was sitting in my driveway when i checked it. took it to my dealer and they had me stand with them while he checked and you could smell it then also. they changed the oil and suggested it be changed every 5,000 miles instead of the called for 7,500 miles, until honda releases a fix (supposedly mid november). they also informed me that honda would not cover the extra oil changes. my car was at their facility october 8 and 9, 2018. i was told to check the oil every 1,000 miles and if i see the level above the normal reading to contact them immediately, or if i see my engine light come on. i am concerned about the life of the engine even after the fix is in place. i told both american honda and the dealer that i have a trip planned in early november and i am very concerned about driving this vehicle any long distance, my concerns were with it stalling or just stopping.
Strong smell of gasoline on oil dipstick (repeated this three times and got the same result each time). i was prompted to check this after reading a consumers report alert about the owners of 2017 and 2018 cr-v's reporting a problem with gasoline leaking into the oil system.
While driving home from local shopping center a strong smell of gas came in to the passenger cabin. it is a new honda cr-v with 475 miles at the time. when i got home, i checked the oiled, it smelled of gas.
Starting to do the gas dilution in the oil. oil has a very strong smell of gas.
Gasoline smell in passenger cabin when driving car. gas somehow leaks into engine crankcase and dilutes oil and causes oil level to be overfilled. this is a continuing issue, not just a single occurrence.
On or about october 5th, after reading consumer reports article about fuel in the engine oil i went and smelled my 2018 honda cr-v's awd ex oil dip stick and smelled a very strong oder of fuel. on monday oct. 8th i called my honda dealership and they advised to schedule service for a check of the issue. on tuesday oct 9th i brought my cr-v in for scheduled service check, the following is the summary off the customer's copy of the invoice. "customer states there is a fuel smell mixed with oil states dipstick smell like fuel - check and advise advised customer this is a known issue and honda has yet to come up with a counter measure for issue at this time advised customer he will be notified when fix is available." i will repeat "this is a know issue and honda has yet to come up with counter measure for issue" i was verbally advised that my vehicle was reported to honda as having the "known issue", i was also advised that this issue honda believes is related to colder climates. i take that to mean honda is aware every cr-v with the 1.5 liter turbo engine (dream engine) has this issue but it only manifests itself in colder climates. also interesting is honda is waiting to ship the 2019 models until fix is available, but not taking 2018 models off the market because that would mean honda is recalling the vehicle.
[ poss. gas in oil ] have been seeing oil level rising after first oil change at 7100 miles. oct.15. at 9100 level was approx. 3/8 of an inch above the high mark on dipstick. took car to jeff wyler honda, and talked to service manager who stated that there may be a fix coming but as of now nothing. told me to watch oil level for maybe another 1000 miles. on nov.17 oil level was almost up 1 inch above high mark on dipstick. nov. 19 ,took to dealer and had oil changed early ( 3000 ) miles . dealer stated oil was up about 1/2 qt. i have a picture of dipstick on ipad but not sure how to upload it.
At around 7200 miles i checked the oil and found it to be above the full line. the oil was very thin and had the distinct smell of gas. after short drives at lower speeds, the passenger compartment smells of gas. i don't smell gas in the passenger compartment when traveling long distances at high speeds.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact noticed a strong fuel odor in the vehicle while driving. the vehicle was taken to roberts honda (located at 19 park ln, downingtown, pa 19335, (610) 269-8200) where it was diagnosed that the engine oil was being diluted by fuel in the engine, which caused the odor in the vehicle. the contact was informed that the engine should be replaced to alleviate the fuel odor. the contact stated that the odor became more prevalent in the cabin after the oil change was completed. the manufacturer was notified and provided case number: 09039894. the approximate failure mileage was 3,000.
Oil level increasing. according to various publications, gasoline getting into the oil. am losing power on heavy acceleration. was moving into interstate traffic.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. while driving various speeds, the engine misfired and the vehicle would not properly accelerate. the contact also noticed fuel leaking into the engine oil. the vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer and the cpu assembly was reprogrammed, but the failure continued. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: case 09652318. the failure mileage was 2,500.
I'm having two issues with my cr-v 1) engine oil level is showing more than the higher limit because of engine oil dilution. 2) gasoline smell in the cabin. i contacted honda on these issues but they said my vehicle doesn't have any recall notice and there is nothing they can do.
There is a strong gas smell in the cabin and around the car. the smell is most noticeable when idling and after parking. duration of the trip does not seem to be a factor, nor the street type.
Oil level over full. and strong fuel smell it the oil. my garage smells strongly of gas also. i took it to the dealership in octobet and they said that it was a known problem and a fix was comming soon? nothing yet? why would they sell vehicles with knowledge of a serious motor problem?
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact stated that fuel was leaking into the oil. team honda (4613 e lincoln hwy, merrillville, in 46410, (219) 947-3900) scheduled an appointment for january 4, 2018 to provide a software update. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the approximate failure mileage was 7,800.
2018 honda cr-v gas in the oil beware consumers .... i bought my 2018 honda cr-v in july.... after months of research on what the best small suv would be for me to have in my retirement. media articles raved about this automobile.... consumer reports chose it as their suv of the year .... it had this great 1.5 turbo engine that would get upwards of 27-33 mpg .... it was a complete package .... my dream retirement vehicle ....... the dealer told my husband and i that oil needs to be changed every 7000 miles or so .... my husband is a meticulous mechanic ... he checked the oil at 3000 miles and found it a quart high .... ( huummm... oil dies not increase .... and it reeked of gas..... gas in the oil? he started researching possible problems with the cr-v .... and things started to really sour.... usa honda has apparently known about this issue with the cr-v for quite some time .... they have kept it under the radar.... in china there has been a recall on 350,000 cr-v's and they have stopped sales.... canada has also acknowledged the issue... usa honda is claiming it is a cold weather issue .... ( first off i bought it in july and secondly.... a car that doesn't work in cold weather???? what the hell is that.... an awd vehicle at that!!!) honda is searching for a solution.... there is no solution.... gas is seeping into my oil wrecking the engine as i write .... honda needs to stop sales.... fess up and give me my money back or a new cr-v with the previously proven engine.... stay tuned! my husband feels owners out there are not aware yet because most don't change their own oil.... and also most do not have anywhere near the miles it will take to completely destroy this engine as he has indicated 'this cr-v with 1.5 turbo will never make 100,000 miles before it is destroyed ...please do something to recall these disasters
When the vehicle is in motion at low speeds on inclined roads the engine is in a state where it is stalling over and over again. i have to accelerate harder to prevent the engine from completely stalling out. this is also followed by a smell of gas in the passenger compartment of the car.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. when the contact checked the engine oil level, he found fuel mixed with the engine oil. the vehicle was taken to heritage honda bel air (1800 bel air road, fallston, md 21047, 410-343-5644) and the engine oil was replaced, but the dealer was unable to determine why fuel was mixed with the engine oil. the dealer stated that there was no remedy for the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was 100.
Engine oil is being deleted with gasoline in less than 2000 mies, which will cause engine damage over time. had oil change, it had almost 1/2 inch extra fluid on the oil dip stick level and the oil smells like old gasoline
Our new 2018 honda cr-ex-l has the 1.5l turbo engine. after 1,012 total miles, the oil was more than a quart high and smelled of gasoline. i had checked the oil level when we received the vehicle new and it had been normal - between the upper and lower marks while cold. i could smell gasoline both on the rag and coming from the crankcase. i took the car to the honda dealership and communicated the above plus i expressed safety concerns from the gasoline. the dealership contacted the regional honda service rep and they decided to change the oil and filter as a temporary solution. honda usa paid for the oil change and told the dealer that 'we know about the problem and are working on a solution but we do not have one yet.' honda was unable to answer any of our safety related concerns. we asked about: engine fire, fuel vapors in the passenger cabin, engine stalling, heater/defrost not working in winter, damage to the engine from fuel contaminated oil. all questions had no answer from either honda usa nor from the dealer. after ~ 600 miles of additional driving, the problem is back as the oil is over-full again. it is looking like the oil will need to be changed every 800 miles of driving. we remain concerned about the health and safety risks of the vehicle due to the fuel accumulating in oil problem. we assume that the gasoline is accumulating in the oil during engine running useage of the vehicle; so injector spray is wrong rather than a fuel-line leak.
Just bought a new 2018 crv exl i've had it less than 2 weeks and put 600 miles on it, there was a smell of gas in the cabin when my wife and child were driving in town. when they got home i realized it was from gas getting into the oil. when the oil dipstick was checked a strong smell of gas was noticeable and the oil level read high on the dipstick. took it to honda the next business day and they confirmed what was happening. honda dealer contacted honda tech support for assistance with the issue, 5 days later dealer called and said car was ready for pick up. once there dealer said there is no current fix for the car and honda was working on a tsb to fix the issue. they did change the oil, but after driving it for a few days i already smell gas in the oil again. this is not acceptable. the dealers hands are tied with no fix available, i called honda customer care and opened a case with them. case manager has yet to contact me with any news. i feel this is a major safety hazard not only from smelling gas in the cabin, but also from gas in the oil and potential fire hazard if the gas oil level becomes to diluted.
My 2018 honda crv has the oil dilution issue at my first oil change i asked the service adviser why my oil level was over the top of the dip stick by about 3/4 an inch and the oil smelled like gas and i also asked him why i smelled it in the cabin. he said anything was wrong it was normal. i checked the oil every 1000 miles and it would go up 1/8 inch every 1000 miles. i took the crv back the dealer because the heater would not get warm at all at idle and the smell of gas was terrible my garage even had a strong smell of gas.the dealer told me i definitely had gas in the oil and the heater problem was part of the gas in the oil issue and at this time honda had no fix for the issue. they did a oil change and told me they would contact me if honda came up with a fix. it's now 4 days after the oil change and the oil is already over the dip stick. i opened a case with honda customer service and after talking to three different people i finally talk to a case manager and he told me gas in the oil was normal and to take the crv back to the dealer if the heater was not working. he is protecting honda because they have a hugh issue. i did not get the extended warranty so this is a big deal for many people like me. please help honda does not care about the customers in the usa look at what they did in canada and china for the exact same issue. thank you!
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. while the vehicle was in operation, fuel mixed with the engine oil. the contact stated that the same failure occurred with his previous cr-v, which ruined the engine. krenzen honda nissan lincoln (2500 mall dr, duluth, mn 55811, (218) 727-2905) changed the oil, but the failure recurred. the contact stated that the failure occurred mostly in cold weather. the contact stated that he filed a complaint for the lemon law with his state's attorney general's office, but had not heard back. the manufacturer was comprehending oil changes. the dealer stated that the manufacturer would not want to talk to the contact once he filed a complaint with the attorney general's office. the failure mileage was 5,000.
-gas leaking into the oil confirmed by the local dealer. "approximately 1/2 quarters extra". -oil level is confirmed to be above the plastic indicator reaching to the metal part of the dipstick way above the normal level stated on the (owners manual).
Car accelerates rapidly, surges forward when i step on the gas. i could not stop in time to avoid collision.
This car has suffered from oil dilution with gasoline since it was purchased in august 2018. i have taken it to the dealer who changed the oil at my expense and claimed that increasing oil in the crankcase is normal and should be expected. the oil level increases about 1 quart for every 2000 miles driven and the oil smells like gasoline. this problem happens at all ambient temperatures, and regardless of whether the vehicle is traveling in short trips or extended highway drives.
2018 honda crv-ex - strong gasoline smell in oil - total mileage 1600. took crv to dealer today to check gas smell in oil. tech confirmed strong gas smell in oil and very black and runny (thin watery like). the tech indicated that this was not his first like experience with the new crv - he said he'd experienced other ones. they changed the oil and filter with full synthetic oil. i requested and received a sample of my old oil along with documentation. the service manager indicated that he hadn't heard anything about this problem. anyway, we will change our oil very often until this issue is hopefully, safely resolved. we're very concerned about the "fuel in oil" issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. while operating the vehicle, the odor of fuel was present inside the vehicle and the check oil indicator illuminated. upon inspection, it was discovered that the oil dip stick reading was extremely high and the odor of fuel was also present in the oil. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (sierra honda, 1450 s. shamrock ave, monrovia, ca) and it was confirmed that the odor of fuel was present in the oil and the oil dip stick reading was excessively high. the dealer also noticed that the oil color had darkened. the contact was informed that the manufacturer was aware of the failure, but no repair was presently available. the oil was changed and the fuel odor was no longer present; however, approximately one month later, the fuel odor returned and the oil dip stick indicated that the oil level was very high. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the failure mileage was 4,100.
I have the oil dilution problem with my 2018 cr-v. i bought the car in march of this year, brand new. i currently have 9000 miles and had to have the oil changed four times due to gas mixing with the oil, strong gas odor and oil over full. i have also had an issue with all the warning lights coming on at once and cycling over and over, this has happened at least three times. i contacted honda america and was told this was a normal occurrence and no harm will come to my engine. i did not know this was an issue until the check engine light came on.
New 2018 cr-v was purchased in february. with some reported issues with oil dilution reported on 2017 cr-v models i kept a close watch on the oil level. no issue before or after the 1st oil change from the dealership. (6000miles) this week after a random check on the oil level i discovered it was way above the normal level oil level with definite gasoline smell. i took it to a honda dealer and they checked the vehicle over (10000 miles) after comprehensive testing including each individual cylinder they could find no issues. (honda tech line was involved)the dealer service rep commented that they had no fix for the issue and that there was no recall. i was given a free oil/filter change and sent on my way. i took the car to work after the dealership and then home (40 miles total approx.) after sitting overnight i checked the dipstick today and the level is right where the orange plastic indicator piece meets the metal dipstick. already above normal again. oil was very soupy dripping from dipstick (normal 0-20w oil does not do this) so just overnight the problem has returned, not in a cold climate. no excessive idling since yesterday after the oil change. i think the reason more people have not reported this is many have not checked their dipstick/ oil level. and why would you if you are driving a new car. oil is breaking down the lubrication of the oil. this is a very serious problem especially for a car with a turbo which depends on that oil. ticking time bomb for honda and sadly for me as well.
Purchased car new in january 2018. noticed heat didn't get very warm, and would cool off at a traffic light, or on a downhill. winter in delaware was not severe in january. around 2200 miles, i checked my oil, found it about a half quart high, and smelled strongly of gasoline. oil is also very dark, nearly black. 1/2 quart extra gasoline in oil sump of 3.7 quarts, means about 12% of the oil was gasoline. this presents 2 major dangers: fire hazard from excess gasoline in oil, and engine failure, due to lack of proper lubrication. i've brought my car in to honda twice, and 2400 & 4000 miles, both times, they contacted honda techline, and provided an oil and filter change free of charge. i am minimizing my use of this vehicle, hoping honda will port "the china solution" to the us soon. as honda doesn't seem to be acknowledging the problem in the us or canada, it will likely be up to the regulators or lawyers to force them to take the problem seriously. nhtsa - please step up, require a solution, before we start finding burning hondas on the roadside.
I live in a temperate climate and use this vehicle predominantly for short, side street trips while the vehicle is in economy mode (econ button). when used solely in this manor for a period of months, the oil and exhaust have a strong stench of unburned gasoline. the fumes inside the cabin that build up in between vehicle uses can get very strong. so much so that on numerous occasions after getting into the car i felt dizzy, disoriented and sick to my stomach. a vehicle that can build up noxious fumes inside the cabin that make you disoriented and sick is not safe or healthy. if a driver is unaware that their state of mind has been altered by the fumes (dui?), it could lead to an accident or worse. not only should nhtsa open an safety investigation into this matter, but environmental impact and health studies should be conducted by the epa to ascertain what other hazards are at play here. date of incident and mileage listed is arbitrary, as this is an ongoing safety hazard.
My 2018 honda crv touring with 1.5l turbo engine had had a problem with the smell of fuel fumes in the interior cabin since the time of purchase. when you turn the air on with the air coming from the outside vent, especially when first starting the car, the smell of gasoline fumes is apparent, which is also a serious health safety concern as inhalation of fumes is definitely bad for your health. every time i check my oil level, the dipstick shows the oil is overfilled beyond what the dipstick measures and the oil smells heavily of gas. after researching this online, i found that there is a problem that many 5th generation crv owners are experiencing with the 1.5l turbo engine with too much gas getting into the oil and the smell of fumes in the cabin. this is what is causing my oil level to rise to unsafe levels that will accelerate the deterioration of expensive internal engine components. i contacted honda and they performed a technical service bulliten related to this issue on december 4th 2018, where a module related to the air conditioning was replaced along with the engine oil and some software upgrade was installed. this changed absolutely nothing. i still am experiencing the sickening smell of gasoline fumes in the cabin as well as the dipstick showing more oil than it can measure along with the smell of gas coming from the oil.
Rising oil level due to contamination of oil with fuel and water, 2018 honda crv ex. on june 18, 2018, while my wife was traveling at 70 mph on cruise control, every computer assisted warning unexpectedly evented on the dash (hill assist, acc, collision mitigation, brake system, cel, tpms, road departure, traction, power steering, vsa), the crv immediately and harshly self-braked (out of the control of the driver). the honda dealership service personnel determined that this occurred due to the oil level in the direct-injected earth dreams 1.5l reaching a level of 21mm above the current limit (the resolution given by honda tech-line was to change the oil and filter every 500 miles). had my wife been followed by another vehicle she certainly would have been rear-ended, injured and possibly killed. this is a well known issue with the direct-injected 1.5l earth dreams turbo engine. honda has no fix for it, and can only recommend that we change the oil every 500 miles. to date, since the initial occurrence on 6/18/2018, we've had the crv back to the same dealership to change the oil and filter an average of every 2 weeks (7/5/2018, 7/19/2018, and 8/3/2018). we'll be returning to the dealership by 8/17/2018 for yet another oil and filter change, this vehicle is unsafe to drive, when under cruise control, due to the oil contamination, the rising oil level, causing the unexpected firing of computer assisted features.
On a city street, after slow acceleration after leaving a stop sign, with no cars in front of me, the collision avoidance system suddenly engaged and hard braked the car. luckily no one was behind me or i fear i might have been rear-ended! also i am concerned that honda has not acknowledged a problem with the earthdream turbo 1.5 engine causing gasoline to enter the oil. i live in maryland, usa and honda has done recalls in china and now canada to address this issue as well as poor heating, but not in the usa. i am deeply concerned that this will cause engine damage in the future long after the warranty has expired and honda will not accept liability! i am also concerned that there has been no recall to address problems with the gear shift lever. many owners are reporting that the button you must push in to shift into or out of park will break without warning, preventing shifting gears.
