Problems with 2018 Honda CR-V FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2018 Honda CR-V starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 5 656 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2018 Honda CR-V

Purchased vehicle nov 9, 2018. from 50-450 miles, had very poor avg mpg (avg 12-16 mpg combined). on jan 1, with under 450 miles on car, and within the first 1.5 miles of driving (driving on a slight incline), computer mpg indicator became erratic/blinking for about 2-3 minutes (indicated from 2 - 80 mpg and occasionally appeared as -------) then returned to higher than usual number. jan 2, started car, very strong smell of raw gas inside cabin (had to open windows) for about 3-4 minutes - reported to/made appt with dealer. jan 3, brought to dealer for appt, told no odor currently detected by service manager in cabin, nothing they could do and did not take car or provide repair order number. at 594, (feb 5) returned to dealer with strong smell of raw gas in oil (on dipstick and over engine with hood up). oil on dipstick appeared runny. dealer confirmed gas in oil, american honda instructed dealer this is not a problem and not to change oil. dealer changed oil as a courtesy to me. i am deeply concerned about the safety of this raw gas odor (if involved in minor accident, will vehicle explode) and deeply concerned about the ongoing damage to engine, powertrain etc. raw gas in cabin (even if sporadic) and oil is not normal. american honda has not yet returned my calls but has assigned a case number.

Oil level over maximum

Honda gas in oil. when in for their recall. oil was changed and a/c module replaced. i never checked the oil for gas but feel this problem must cause some engine damage. would like to see a formal recall with proper corrective action. dealer seemed evasive when asked to explain the problem, no big deal just gas in the oil.

Severe dilution of engine oil with gasoline

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact noticed that fuel was mixing with the engine oil. there was also a loss of power and brake functionality as various warning indicators and gauges flashed on the instrument panel. the vehicle was towed to southeastern honda (3125 us-1, palm bay, fl 32905, (321) 984-4224), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. a loaner vehicle was not offered. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted, but was closed for the holidays. the contact planned to call back. the approximate failure mileage was 3,800.

October 2018 we took our new c rv on a trip to nashville, tn from traverse city, mi. the check engine light came on and the oil can icon lit up. i called the honda dealer where i bought the c rv from and they had no idea what was going on. i got out and checked the oil and found it high. i brought the honda to a quick lube to check it. they changed the oil then sent me on my way. after arriving back home tc a few weeks later we got a recall letter from honda. on wednesday, december 26th, williams honda in tc did the recall work. on thursday my wife got in the vehicle to go shopping and the heater would not work. she called the honda dealer and brought the honda to them. they said that they did not cause the heater to not work with the recall repair. after doing something, the heater began to work again. this is very worrisome, we are not sure what to do next. on an earlier occasion our new cr-v would not start as after only 30 minutes of sitting the battery was dead. the honda dealer told us you can't leave any lights on as the battery wont last very long.

Gasoline mixing with engine oil,oil level rising above full mark diluting engine oil.will possibly cause pre mature engine damage.smell of gasoline in oil.honda is claiming this is normal..this is not normal!

Our 2018 honda crv touring has the oil dilution problem. our oil level increased about 3/4 inch on the oil stick from may, 2018 to december, 2018 and it smells like gas. we have also smelled gas inside our car. honda is fixing some cars, but we live in arkansas and our state is not on the list to be repaired. we could have an engine fire so feel it is not safe to drive. also, the engine will wear out a lot faster with the dilution....even though the honda dealer said it won't!!

Gasoline smell in oil, also occasionally gasoline smell in the cabin when turn on the heat.

3-month-old 2018 cr-v ex-l - noticed oil dilution problems within first 2 months. dealer has been unresponsive. gas has been getting into oil in apparently significant amounts. persistent smells of gas and 'rotten eggs/meat' while operating. oil level gets higher above measuring section of dipstick every time i check, smells of gas. car begins to stall a bit occasionally. had oil changed at 5k miles - tech confirmed oil was very thin, higher volume than should be, and smelled of gas. very concerned about safety now (what if it stalls while in heavy highway traffic?) and also long-term engine damage since diluted oil will not lubricate as well. researched online only after discovering problem - apparently well known problem, and widespread - but barely acknowledged by honda.

At several points in time during november and december, i smelled a foul odor in the passenger cabin. i notified the dealer and there was a recall in which they applied the fix. even now, there appears to be a foul smell once in a while. the heating system takes a long time to heat up in the winter. if in park/idle mode, the heat will automatically be less hot for some reason.

Had oil changed by dealer. noticed smell inside vehicle after driving home. checked oil had smell of gasoline. oil level has increased since checked after service. according to honda information, car will shut itself down if oil level gets too high. if car dies on interstate, could very well cause an accident.

I have been getting a strong gas odor inside the car and the oil level was above the full mark, smelled strong of gas and was a dark color for being brand new with 3,000 miles. i brought to the dealer and they installed campaign recall #18-114 that included software update and a a/c control. i drove car 5 days and while driving on a busy road the car filled with gas fumes that was overwhelming i had to put all windows down and pull over to air the vehicle out and make sure it wasnt going to be a fire hazzard.i have reported issue to honda factory and will be going to the dealer 12/19/18 to adress the issue again

Wife notices fuel smell while driving. oil was checked and i could visibly see the oil is cut with gasoline along with strong smell of gasoline on oil dipstick. oil is indefinitely contaminated with gasoline. first noticed on 12/10/18 and researched online finding that thousands of others have the same problem with 2017-2018 honda cr-v with the 1.5l turbo

Noticed a strong odor of gas on the oil dipstick along with a strong odor of gas in the cabin area. the smell is so strong that it causes the occupants to become sick. the smell is normally when its sitting, idling or when you first start it when the engine is cold.

My cr-v 2018 doesn't run smooth and the engine is noisey but the big problem happened 12/08/18 when i parked the car to unload groceries when one hour later i went to start it the cabin filled with the strong smell of gasoline. i spoke to my mechanic who told me not to drive and have the dealership pick it up.

The oil level is way above the full line on dip stick. i will be taking it to the dealer for the first oil change next week. i hope they have a remedy for this problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact stated that fuel was leaking into the oil and the check engine indicator kept randomly illuminating. bosak honda michigan city (710 hwy 20, michigan city, in 46360, 1-219-874-4293) was notified and stated that the manufacturer sent notification of campaign number: 1245a2 for a product and software update. the dealer serviced the manufacturer campaign, which was not a manufacturer recall, but the remedy failed to provide a permanent repair. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and provided a case number. the manufacturer had not issued any fuel system or engine recalls. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 11,800. *tt*jb

Strong smell of gasoline coming from oil filler cap

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. while driving various speeds, the contact smelled fuel fumes. there were no warning indicators illuminated. krenzen honda (4160 haines rd, duluth, mn 55811, (218) 724-6632) diagnosed that fuel was leaking into the oil compartment. the dealer reprogrammed the software, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was repaired a second time. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 5,000.

Strong gasoline smell on engine dipstick and vehicle only has 128 miles

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact noticed a fuel odor coming from the oil dipstick. the vehicle was taken to lee's summit honda (401 ne colbern rd, lee's summit, mo 64086. 816-251-8700) where it was diagnosed that the vehicle needed to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and provided case number: 09225423. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 22,300.

The engine fails to reach full operating temperature. gas is finding its way into the oil pan and producing an overfill condition. the cabin smells of gasoline. the electronics are unreilable and are often of line

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. after reading the consumer report, the contact became aware that the 2018 honda cr-v vehicles experienced fuel intrusion into the engine oil. the contact inspected the engine dipstick himself and noticed a fuel odor and fuel mixed with engine oil. the contact also found that the engine oil level had risen due to the fuel penetration. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 227. *tt

Sone how gas is getting the oil. i left vehicle run at idle for 15 minutes in driveway temp gauge does not move. if i drive vehicle the temp gauge goes up but stop for a few minutes and temp gauge starts dropping again. very strong oder of gasoline in side vehicle when stopped at red light or parked for a few minutes. you have to put windows down it smells so bad. honda is aware of all these issues and does not want to own up to any of them! my vehicle is suppose to get fixed friday morning. 1-11-19 but according to the internet the fix honda is doing does absolutely nothing. do people have to die before honda is forced to do something? it is all honda crv vehicles and some other models from 2017 and 2018.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact stated that the fuel in the vehicle was not burning, which caused fuel to seep down to the oil. the dealer (tom scott honda, 603 11th ave n., nampa, id 83687) stated that they could not assist until a recall for the failure was issued. the manufacturer was also contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 400.

The car began to run rough when i was returning from a long trip. when i turned the car off, then back on, every alarm was going off. i had it towed to the dealership and was told that the garage that had changed my oil put the wrong oil in. this was a lie on the dealerships part as they had no evidence to prove their assertion. i believe i have one of those crvs with the engine problems that people are talking about. my honda has the turbo-4 cylinder motor. i found out about these engine issues over the summer but when i my car was towed to honda, after thanksgiving, they acted like the never heard about the problem.

There is an extremely high reading on the engine oil dipstick. a strong smell of gasoline is present in the engine's oil. the oil reads about half an inch higher on the dipstick than the maximum mark indicates.

There is fuel in my oil. dipstick is above full one week after changing oil and driving 150 miles. dealer says there is no fix

Fuel is mixing with the engine oil causing the oil level to become high and the oil diluted. on short cold trips, the cab smells of gasoline. i had the oil changed by the dealer and not even 300 miles later, the oil level is high again and the oil smells of gasoline. additionally, my cr-v does not heat up properly. when started cold, the temperature gauge on the dash never comes off of cold, no matter how long it idles. it takes at least 5 minutes of driving to register heat. when i remote start my car on cold days, it does not actually heat up the car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. when the contact checked the oil in the vehicle, it smelled like fuel. the vehicle was taken to honda of danbury (102 federal rd, danbury, ct 06810, 203-951-6600) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to the dealer. the failure mileage was approximately 5,020. *tt consumer stated recall was serviced on 1-4-19 software update with a/c unit replacement.*jb

Stationary:gas intrusion into oil. dipstick reeks of gas. oil viscosity appears watery. strong gas smell in garage after parking (heated garage) - takes 6-8 hrs to dissipate smell driving and stationary: strong gas smell into driver/front passenger area, outside perimeter of car and under hood - smell appears to come into cabin with heater on through vents. windows have to be rolled down and heater off to get rid of smell - my eyes water, throat becomes tight and nose starts stinging immediately - headaches start after approximately 30 minutes of driving and continue for 4-5 hrs as do the other symptoms this cabin/under hood gas smell has happened with outside temps from 28-60 degrees. gas smell is more concentrated after driving and parking the car and then turning off engine and returning to car to start engine within 10 minutes to 4 hrs - it literally makes me nauseous and dizzy. this happens whether car is in garage, driving on city street or highway. has become worse the past 6 weeks (car was purchased new in june 2018) from honda dealer in central illinois. it currently has 2500 miles on odometer what about a fire under hood from excess fuel not being burned off? i am concerned about my health and emissions have driven many types of cars for over 50 yrs and never had these gas intrusion issues or oil intrusion from fuel what happens when i need to "air car out" because of smell and it's raining or snowing? the potential for engine damage in concerning - example: how does gas mixed with oil, lubricate an engine and its related components properly? why is there excess build up of fuel in oil pan? why am i subjected to the noxious, hideous, and sickening gas smell in cabin? therefore, i would expect at a minimum extended drive train/engine warranty to 6 yrs from honda which was granted in canada and want gas smell eliminated

I have been having issues with infotainment screen/system. the system freezes and sometimes goes black and won't respond to touches and or instructions. the car has been to the dealer several times with no permanent fix. also, vehicle temperature remains cold. the car runs and drives for several hours and the temp stays cold with no heat in the cabin. experiencing fuel mixing with oil and sometimes smell of fuel in the cabin is noticeable.high oil level is also present. dealership and honda na both informed me that i will need frequent oil changes until they find a permanent fix.

Gas mixing in with oil, smelling the gas on the dip stick and while doing an oil change.

Purchased a new 2018 honda cr-v ex in florida 4/18. worked fine until a recent trip to indiana where it was subjected to cold temperatures. the vehicle would not heat for 10 minutes and it's performance seemed to suffer compared to how it was operating in warmer florida. the worst part was the faint smell of gasoline in the car the entire time in indiana. wasn't sure what would have caused that until i returned to florida and started investigating the matter and found out about the oil dilution problem and the small of gasoline in the oil. there is no smell of gasoline in the vehicle now that it's back in florida, so i have to assume it had something to do with the cold climate it was subjected to. in either case i need to travel to indiana in the winter frequently and the problem with gasoline fumes in the cabin (whatever it's cause) needs to be fixed. i now read where honda is going to roll out a fix, but it will only cover cr-v's in northern states. if that's the case then that is not right! what about people like me that travel from warm climate florida to indiana in the winter - we shouldn't have to endure gasoline fumes and we shouldn't have to live with potential harm to our vehicles. we should all have the modification done to our cr-v's.

Fumes in the cabin when starting during cooler weather. gasoline present in the engine oil, which dilutes the oil and results in levels higher than recommended by manufacturer. concerns documented with a certified honda dealer. amending software has not solved the problem. we were hold that honda engineers are working on a solution. we have been to the dealer 4 times without a resolution.

This vehicle gets a terrible smell of gasoline inside the vehicle, especially on initial start-up. this vehicle is unpleasant to drive do to this smell, especially in the winter with the climate control system on. my wife suffers from migraines and cannot ride in the vehicle. the problem was confirmed by my local honda dealership, valley honda, in aurora il. no resolution was provided as they indicated the smell is tied to the well know oil-dilution problem with this 1.5 trbo engine, which they confirmed this vehicle also has (but for which no 'fix' has been issued in the u.s.) so now, not only am i damaging the new engine when driven, but also the occupant health by exposing them to gasoline fumes. this is just wrong on a new vehicle and needs a proactive recall asap.

Strong fuel smell in the cabin when idle or driving in cold weather. oil level high. fuel and oil mixing.

Bought 2018 honda cr-v exl only 2 weeks ago. it has 500 miles on it. i noticed a strong smell of gasoline coming from the engine. i found that the oil is over full and very diluted with gasoline. i worry this is a safety issue if the engine gets hot will the gas ignite. is this going to cause excessive wear on the engine due to lack of lubrication? honda needs to fix this issue. people are paying hard earned money for these vehicles.

Fuel is contaminating the oil causing the level to raise 1/4 to 1/2 inch above full when checking oil level with dip stick. changing oil at 2,000 miles from last oil change. possible engine damage which could lead to being stranded on the highway.

2018 honda crv, 8000 miles, fuel is entering the crankcase creating an overfull condition. concerns are noxious fumes in the cabin and extreme early wear of all lubricated engine components. dealer informs me that this is a normal condition. i opened a case with honda and was told the same . i intend to speak with the dealership owner and ask if i might come once each week and add gasoline to his oil over the next year.

Vehicle is showing an unusual amount of gasoline entering into the oil that lubricates the engine. have been reading about this issue at numerous sites and took it to dealer today who verified that the oil level has risen above the max mark on the dipstick and it does smell of gasoline. i have had no operational issues thus far but know this is not good for internal engine parts. i have approx. 4200 miles on the vehicle at this point. dealer acknowledged the problem and documented it on the work order. they also changed the oil at this time. they indicated honda is expecting to release some sort of solution in mid nov and i would be contacted by either the dealer or honda direct.

Gasoline is contaminating and diluting the engine oil. oil turned black and diluted by the gasoline and had to be changed with less than 1500 miles on the vehicle. concerned that the gasoline diluted oil is posing a fire and safety risk.

My 2018 cr-v suffers from the dreaded [oil dilution issue] where gasoline gets into the oil raising the level above the full mark. the result is a strong gasoline smell, sometimes in the cabin but always when you pull the dipstick to check the oil. the oil level is always considerably higher than the full mark. i presented this issue to my dealer, and they confirmed the smell of gas in the oil, the high level and the fact that many 2017-18 crv's suffer from this same issue. their unacceptable solution was to change the oil and make longer trips to try to burn off the gasoline in the oil. they also said that honda would be issuing a statement in the fall about fixing the issue. first a bit about the issue. there are many reports of crv owners with this problem unexpectedly stalling and losing power while in motion. some have suffered accidents. does this sound like a vehicle you'd like to put your family in? also, diluted motor oil has to have long term damaging effects on the engine. i am very worried about the long term value of a car that was supposed to have great resale value - that's why i bought it. so honda rolls out their "fix", and i notice that they're only going to address what they consider "cold weather states". they also plan to roll these "could weather state" fixes out over a multiple month schedule. not acceptable at all. what about my car honda. i would think that honda would treat all of their customers the same and would want to fix as many afflicted vehicles as possible because of possible safety issues. honda has a very loyal owner-base. i betcha how they handle this will affect people's decisions in the future. i know it will affect mine.

Purchased vehicle from fox honda in grand rapids, mi on 8/14/18. noticed gasoline smell on dipstick after 1000 miles. checked again after 2000 miles and the gasoline smell is stronger and the dipstick registers well past full. the check engine light came on today 10/23/18 with a message "systems emission problem." extremely disappointed in honda.

I smelled gas inside the cabin driving for short distance 2x in 4 days. this is first drive of the day and/or really short distances. checked oil and it had a small hint of gas smell in it too. took it to the dealer and they couldn't duplicate the problem and have nothing further to go on there. they said to keep an eye on it. oil level was within limit. only have 500 miles on it. the first time it was really cold outside (around low to mid 30s f). 2nd time around 45ish.

Fuel is mixing with the oil and there is a strong smell of gasoline in the passenger compartment while driving. frequent stalls during cold weather and little to no heat in passenger chamber

Repeated loss of power / stall. checked fluids and oil dipstick level is high and smells strongly of gasoline.

Strong gas smell in passenger cabin. gas mixing with engine oil. consequently engine oil levels rising very high.

1.5l turbo engine- changed oil at 5200 miles tech said "very dirty". at 7200 miles/6 months- almost stalled in traffic 3 times. all three times i had to brake suddenly. smell of gas in the cab once. i checked the oil, after 2000 miles since last changed- oil was black and smelled like gas. dropped it off at the dealership- they have had it over a week. they seem elusive in updates. tell me nothing is wrong one minute, it's ok the oil was that dirty, but then they "updated the electrical system" and changed the oil. again they said- nothing is wrong, but they want to keep it one more night to test drive it and honda has a solution to my problem coming soon.
