Gas is getting into the oil and the engine does not heat up until many miles of driving in 40 degree temperatures, dip stick is showing over full all the time and still no fix
Rising oil level due to contamination of oil with fuel and water, 2018 honda crv ex. on june 18, 2018, while my wife was traveling at 70 mph on cruise control, every computer assisted warning unexpectedly evented on the dash (hill assist, acc, collision mitigation, brake system, cel, tpms, road departure, traction, power steering, vsa), the crv immediately and harshly self-braked (out of the control of the driver). the honda dealership service personnel determined that this occurred due to the oil level in the direct-injected earth dreams 1.5l reaching a level of 21mm above the current limit (the resolution given by honda tech-line was to change the oil and filter every 500 miles). had my wife been followed by another vehicle she certainly would have been rear-ended, injured and possibly killed. this is a well known issue with the direct-injected 1.5l earth dreams turbo engine. honda has no fix for it, and can only recommend that we change the oil every 500 miles. to date, since the initial occurrence on 6/18/2018, we've had the crv back to the same dealership to change the oil and filter an average of every 2 weeks (7/5/2018, 7/19/2018, and 8/3/2018). we'll be returning to the dealership by 8/17/2018 for yet another oil and filter change, this vehicle is unsafe to drive, when under cruise control, due to the oil contamination, the rising oil level, causing the unexpected firing of computer assisted features.
For the second time, i have experienced a strong gas smell in the cabin. i was driving about 45 mph on a city street.
Gasoline was contaminating the oil and causing an overfilled crankcase condition. on occasion gasoline fumes entered the cabin in january a honda "fix" was installed by the dealer as part of a honda notification. the oil was changed and a new filter installed at the same time. since then, the oil level has been continuously monitored with the same over full contamination and gasoline fume problems in existence. the honda "fix" did not solve the problem. both the dealer and honda have been notified. the continuing problem has been acknowledged, but no solution has been offered or discussed, the problem has been ongoing since we took delivery of the vehicle in june 2018.
Honda 1.5 turbo engine is getting abnormal amounts of gasoline and water in the oil. my last oil change with mobil 1 was jet black after 4,300 miles of use. the dealership service manager told me that i should change the oil every 5,000 miles, the owner's manual says 10,000 miles. the mobil 1 engine oil has broken down before 5,000 miles.
On a city street, after slow acceleration after leaving a stop sign, with no cars in front of me, the collision avoidance system suddenly engaged and hard braked the car. luckily no one was behind me or i fear i might have been rear-ended! also i am concerned that honda has not acknowledged a problem with the earthdream turbo 1.5 engine causing gasoline to enter the oil. i live in maryland, usa and honda has done recalls in china and now canada to address this issue as well as poor heating, but not in the usa. i am deeply concerned that this will cause engine damage in the future long after the warranty has expired and honda will not accept liability! i am also concerned that there has been no recall to address problems with the gear shift lever. many owners are reporting that the button you must push in to shift into or out of park will break without warning, preventing shifting gears.
When i stop on level road and take foot off brake the engine accelerates from 700 rpm to 1000-1100 rpm up tp 7mph.thats without touching gas pedal. i brought car to dealer and they test drove car.report says "vehicle will accelerate till reaches7ph then drop to idle speed.this is vehicle normal operation condition.no repair needed."they said all systems are at factory settings.i've owned cars for 55 yrs. and never had one do this.they might roll slightly but never accelerate.i feel it is a possible design safety defect that should be addressed.if you take foot off brake you can rear end something or kill or injure someone.this happens on all road conditions even up hill and every time take foot off brake.if this is factory setting something is not rite. *js
This vehicle has "push to start". if the button is not pressed before leaving the vehicle, the engine continues to run. i forgot to shut off the engine after pulling into the garage, and i had to go back into the car and shut it off. the automaker needs to add an option to turn off the engine when the fob moves at least 5 feet from the vehicle. they already offer a feature to lock the car when the fob moves at least 5 feet away, so much of the infrastructure has been completed and tested.
Engine oil contamination when the oil dip stick was pulled, there was a strong smell of gasoline coming out of the dip stick hole, and it showed the oil was overfilled with factory oil in the engine. it was overfilled by at least 1/4 inch. when the engine oil was drained during the first oil change at 5827 miles, the oil had a very strong smell of gasoline. the oil seemed like there was almost no viscosity left, and drained like water out of the crankcase. the engine oil was diluted with gasoline.
Parked car on level ground after driving, waited 1 hour then checked oil via the dipstick with 1500 miles on the odometer. oil level is above the full mark and strong smell of gasoline on the dipstick.
Bought a brand new 2018 fully loaded touring cr-v 3 days ago on monday. filing this report on wednesday. the car has only 35 miles on it as i write this. we drove roughly 25 miles total since leaving the dealership. after hearing about oil dilution problems encountered by other drivers, i decided to check the oil to see if it smelled like gasoline just in case. fyi, it was parked in our enclosed garage. i was shocked that it actually did smell, but it didn't just smell a little. it smelled like when you get gasoline on your hands. i immediately took it back to the dealership with the paper towel in hand. every salesperson and technician i handed the paper towel to confirmed the oil from the dipstick that was wiped on the towel smelled like gasoline. they are reviewing the problem, and have decided to spend more time looking at it due to my concerns. sounds more serious, but i don't want to assume. i am concerned this problem which is known in china and japan will grow to be like the other complaints registered with the nhsta. china has halted sales of the cr-v until they can determine a reasonable fix. apparently a recall to adjust software timings was not enough. also should mention honda canada is monitoring this and sent a bulletin to their dealers.
After driving a short distance on a city street, i noticed a gas smell in the cabin. upon additional research, i learned that other cr-v owners have experienced the same situation with oil dilution (gas getting mixed in with oil). when i checked the oil, the level was over what is should be and the dipstick smelled of gas.
Oil is being diluted by blow-by gas from combustion chambers.
Oil dilution in the engine! gas fumes smell in the cabin due to it!
2018 honda crv has oil diluted by gas and causes the crankcase oil to be overfilled. also smell of raw gas in cabin. dealer has no fix. i got them to do the software upgrade but no change. purchased the car new in april 2018 and immediately had the above mention problems. had the oil changed and no improvement. very concerned about the longevity of the engine and safety to car with that much gas in the oil
Oil on dipstick smells like gas. the car cabin smells like gas and it basically stinky unless the car windows are open. garage also smells like gas when car is parked.
We had a horrible situation last night when we were driving on the highway. our honda crv 2018 exl which is not even 2 weeks old, brand new, started shaking and wobbling and stopped in the mid road.all the safety systems failed and there were warnings on the dashboard, brake system problem, all wheel drive system problem, tire pressure monitor problem, electric parking brake problem, road departure mitigation system problem, collision mitigation system problem, lane keeping assist problem, adaptive cruise control problem, hill start assist problem, vehicle stability assist problem, anti lock brake system problem, power steering system problem, you name it.everything went wrong.we had a baby in the car seat behind and could have ended up in an accident.all the safety features failed.honda doesnt have an answer for it. very unsafe to drive this car in the highway if it suddenly stops and what if we get hit by car or truck behind us.honda has no solution.
I checked my oil level the oil day and noticed that it was well above the "full" mark on the dipstick. i also noticed that it was not as viscous as it should be and that it smelled like gasoline. the car only has 1123 miles on it.
Gas is getting into the engine oil causing oil viscosity loss. it is also causing to much fluid in the oil pan and potentially damaging engine internals with to much fluid and loss of lubrication. engine does not reach operating temperature in cold weather, causing poor performance and not heat from the hvac system.
Engine oil contamination by incomplete combustion of gasoline in cylinder. volume of oil becomes over full. produces "gasoline smell" and diminishes the efficiacy of engine oil lubrication.
Problem with gasoline mixing in with the engine oil. took to dealer for recall and problem is worse. dealer advised to file a complaint with honda corp and the nhtsa.
Oil level rises and smells of gasoline. the picture provided shows oil above full line and only has 400 miles since oil change. as more miles are driven, i will take additional pictures.
Purchased new honda cr-v 2018. oil has gasoline entering crankcase and an odor of gasoline is evident. honda sent recall and i had the recall work completed and it has not resolved the problem.
Like many other 2017-2018 honda cr-v owners, i discovered a significant amount of gasoline in the oil reservoir of my vehicle after normal usage. in less than a month of ownership and less than 1,000 miles driven, my cr-v's oil reservoir was 0.5 quarts over full due to dilution from uncombusted gasoline. this problem and its cause have been documented by cr-v owners on multiple other websites and forums. when i pulled the oil dipstick from my cr-v's engine, i immediately smelled gasoline and recognized that excessive dilution had occurred. i am greatly concerned about the performance, safety, and longevity of my cr-v's engine due to this deficiency. furthermore, i am questioning the safety of the 2017-2018 honda cr-v given that multiple cr-v owners have documented stalled engines and engine damage due to this problem. i am thankful i caught this problem in my cr-v before the check engine light came on or before my engine stalled; however, oil dilution will continue to plague these vehicles until honda provides a long-term solution or recall.
Purchased 2018 honda new from boardwalk honda, nj. immediately gas was entering oil and gas odor was present. the dealer could not correct problem and stated honda was aware of problem and working on a repair. contacted by boardwalk honda and told they received repair info from honda. i took car in and the repair was completed. i received a recall notice after the repair was complete. the repair has not corrected the problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. while driving 45 mph, the brakes failed and the vehicle stalled without warning. the abs indicator illuminated after the failure. on another occasion, while driving 25 mph, the brakes failed and the vehicle stalled without warning again. the vehicle was able to be restarted after a few moments. the vehicle was taken to darling's honda nissan volvo (114 sylvan rd, bangor, me 04401, (207) 941-1460) where it was diagnosed that the engine software needed to be updated. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 2,485.
The vehicle was recalled and the service completed by the dealer for the issue of fuel getting into the engine oil. i drove the vehicle 1500 miles of which 1000 miles was higway travel over 2 days. now the oil dip stick level is one inch above the 'max fill dot'. the owners manual states 'do not fill the engine oil above the upper mark.' 'over flling the engine oil can result in leaks and engine damage.'
Gasoline leaking into the engine lubrication oil reducing the engine lubrication ability.
While driving in town and on freeway, noticed very strong fuel smell in cabin of car, enough to make kids complain in the back seat. had to turn off heat/fan. brought car in to dealer on 2/19, and oil was overfull by 3/4 quart due to fuel dilution. changed oil and filter. advised honda has no clue, watch oil. mileage: 3953. opened case with honda. 2/25 - drove 50 miles one way on freeway to go shopping. while going from store to store, strong fuel smell again in cabin. parked in garage at home, later had to move it out due to garage filling with fuel smell. 2/28 - oil overfull and smells like fuel, dealer changed oil and filter. no other solution. 3/2 - honda case mgr called, advised they are working on solution. until then, check oil every couple days and all oil changes will be warrantied. 3/3-3/15 - smelling fumes inside cabin again. nothing strong. just becoming the "usual". 3/15 - oil change number three, same reason. mileage 5475. ironically, i the beginning of feb, before knowing this issue, i had a dr appt. i advised my doctor that my asthma has gotten worse. it was exercise induced previously, but now it's flaring at random times and my chest hurts. i got a new asthma plan. come to find out, fuel fumes aggrevates asthma!!
Raised engine oil level and smell of gas inside the car when driven on cold morning for a short trip and sometimes on longer trips too.
Fuel is getting into the oil causing dilution. my oil level has increased as a result of that and it can cause the oil to loose viscosity which won't make the oil as effective on the engine and can cause long term engine damage. this is happening in southern california. i had to get my oil change early at less than 3500 miles because the smell of oil and oil level increase was bad.
I purchased my 2018 honda cr-v ex-l in december of 2017. i noticed within a couple of weeks that the engine temperature gauge was extremely slow to climb, and oftentimes would "lose" temperature on colder days. i spent time testing the conditions when the temperature gauge would fluctuate so i would have additional information to provide the dealership. i would drive both stop-and-go, as well as on the highway for 15-30 minutes at a time to get the engine temperature normal, and then pull into a parking lot with the engine still running. after about 2-5 minutes, the engine temperature would start to drop, eventually dropping to 1-2 indicator marks on the gauge. i would also no longer have any heat at that point (the hvac system would blow cold). i went through 2 separate dealers troubleshooting this issue. the dealership i purchased the car from had it in service the longest. after multiple days in the shop with no update, i felt they were not making any progress on the issue so i filed a complaint with honda of america. they assigned the issue to one of their customer advocates to oversee this service issue with the car. i was told by honda of america that the issue was referred to the regional manager of support for honda in my area. after some additional time in service, i was told the issue was reviewed w/ honda's technical / engineering team who deemed this as "normal". last month i came across multiple articles related to a gasoline oil dilution problem in 2017/2018 cr-v's, and a "side effect" of that problem being low engine temperature / loss of engine temperature. i checked the oil dipstick on the vehicle and noticed a very strong smell of gasoline.
Had issues with electrical such as warning lights in the past, 38,000 miles had fuel injectors replaced. mention when i got the car that it did not heat properly, they said it was normal. does not heat when idling . so i started checking it out and everybody else is having the same issue. idling.
The engine is making oil as we drive it. there is a gas smell inside the car. we dont drive short distances with it like the dealer said would make it happen
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 honda cr-v. the contact stated that oil was mixing with the fuel and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle could not be driven and had to be towed to krenzen honda (4160 haines rd, duluth, mn 55811, (218) 724-6632) where it was diagnosed and partially repaired. a system update and oil change was performed on the vehicle. the manufacturer was notified and provided a case number. the contact was informed to call the manufacturer again, if the failure continued. the failure mileage was 7,700. *tt consumer stated first time car started smoking and the engine was disabled. second time car smelled of fuel. vehicle purchase date should be on or before incident date *jb
